Situated on an artificial island in Lake Hai'lu'kai, We are the main airport for the new capital city of Lake hai'lu'kai and situated quite considerably further south than the airport at Valeria Port Aurora, as such we are amongst the most modern of airports, featuring 2 of the longest commercial runways in existance as of 2013, with two 8.5km runways, though these runways do not feature the additional 1.5km roll out areas at each end, however they do feature gravel traps at each end of the runway incase of runway overshoot to prevent aircraft skidding into the lake as we all know, modern jet airliners generally do not take well to landing on water, though with a marked length of 8.5km, the roll out length is not needed.
Here at Hai'lu'kai, our aim is to get passengers through the airport and onto their flights as efficiently and as safely as possible, giving passengers a positive experience every time they visit.
Watch the planes
for a fee of $10, plane fanatics can go to a viewing lounge that is situated just below the tower head of the control tower, access to this is by a seperate lift that ensures that there is no ability to get to the control room of the airport, however it does give panoramic views of the airport, with almost all the airport visible from the viewing lounge.
SECURITY AT HAI'LU'KAI
There are two types of security at Hai'lu'kai airport, security you can see, the overt security, and security you can't, the covert security, this is also inclusive of standard security measures put in the baggage areas. Marked security guards are easily identified by their civil guard uniform which consists of a white shirt, black bullet proof vest with black trousers, usually armed with sub machineguns. Though they are dressed as police officers, they are serving soliders. There are around 500 of these visible security personnel around the airport with over 1000 plain clothed officers who are armed with pistols.
ALL bags destined for carriage in airline holds are screened as they are checked in, NO EXCEPTION!, this screening includes x-ray scanning before they pass through a chemical vapour detector. Bags which are deemed to be suspicious are then searched by hand whilst the owner of the bag is sought. Facial recognition software is used to identify a person as he or she checks bags in and tracked through the airport by the thousands of security cameras that cover the entire airport complex, including the washrooms!
Around the exterior of the airport, police vehicles do regular patrols, these patrols are also augmented by CCTV cameras and guard towers every 250m along the perimeter fence of the airport. This fence, in a lesson learned from a very prominent heist overseas, the airport fence has a 3ft wide 4ft deep concrete pit that is only bridged where emergency access areas are, and these have security barriers and tyre-puncture device, These provide an effective barrier to vehicles trying to get unauthorised access to the airport, whilst crash bollards surround the terminal complex to prevent vehicle access to the terminal building.
Hai'lu'kai is also home to VF23ADW to provide additional cover to escort suspicious aircraft down to the runway, as well as to intercept any incoming threat to the airport such as an airspace violator.
Shopping at the airport
Hai'lu'kai has a number of shops dedicated to selling to tourists and travellers, providing shops selling alcoholic beverages under duty free regulations, these however are located in the airside part of the airport terminal area, as well as selling books, electronic goods and food. Landside in arrivals area there is a small minimall with 20 units available for open rent, which can be rented out for $1000 per month.
Airport hotels
There are 6 hotels that are dedicated to Hai'lu'kai airport, these are situated on the main shore of Lake Hai'lu'kai and have direct bus access to the airport, this service is provided by the airport and operated by Pole Cat Transportation featuring porter handling for passenger luggage.
