Osarius Football Season Round-Up 2180-81

Firewood City's hugely impressive performances in the first half of the season - after 19 games, they boasted a 13-4-2 record and averaged 2.7 goals per game - perhaps underlined that it was fatigue that contributed to their spectacular fall late in the season last year. Despite their impressive squad depth, Willem Hamel's habit of relying on certain key players perhaps cost them dearly. This time around, we saw a lot more rotation. While key players like Lewis, Watson and Wilson-Ouaddou featured regularly, certain second stringers, such as the immensely talented Gabriel Russell, and Osarius U21 stars Millbanks-Ford, Riley and Ifill regularly came in for established names, even as early as the first few matches of the season.

Trothwands Evolution have come a long way, building on their successes from last season, and seemingly forming a trio of counterplayers to Firewood's so called "Three Kings" - Lewis, Watson and Wilson-Ouaddou - in the form of Lewis' nemesis Malachi Lubret, Benni Watson's younger brother Ashley, and highly rated centre-back John Baringer. When the two teams met on matchday nine in The Cauldron, it was Lewis' side who took the spoils. The fascinating duel between the Watson brothers saw both men end the game with two assists, while both Lewis and Lubret got on the scoresheet. In OSN's tip for match of the season, we saw the emergence of Trothwands as perhaps the biggest rivals to Firewood in their quest to regain their position atop the Osarian football league pyramid.

The match will also have Benedict di Corradi seriously considering a call up for players like Ashley Watson, Emilio Morelli and Lyndon Pryor, while pressure grows for him to recall Malachi Lubret.

As it turned out, Trothwands were eight points off the pace at half way, and it was almost certain that Turic - not quite struggling , but clearly not the same as they once were in the absence of Dean Atkinson - were not realistic title contenders anymore, sitting twelve points behind league leaders Firewood City. Last season's champions, Greeningham City, were in the same situation, despite having beaten Trothwands convincingly away from home. The surprise in the top four was King's Guard Sporting Club, who sat ten points behind Firewood with a 9-6-4 record and the third best goal difference in the league.

At the other end of the table, Hastmead Diamante were trailing again, four points from safety, thanks to some inconsistent performances from their talented young side. Below them sat Maharia and Hamtown, the latter struggling with their inexperienced player/manager James Davidson. Despite this, there were just eleven points seperating the bottom eight places, and half a season to go. Amandeep Sahota refused to rule out his team's chances of surviving, showing great faith in his young charges.

Corradini Cup 2180-81

The Corradini Cup had thrown up few shocks en route to the quarter finals. Most noticeable perhaps, was Greeningham being unceremoniously dumped out in the third round by Cymrwell FC. At the quarter final stage, five of the top ten ranked sides in Osarius were still in the competition.

With Turic's arguably surprising victory over Firewood - given league form - and Trothwands' extra time aggregate winner at Crown Valley Stadium, the Corradini Cup threw up two of the best matches of the season. The route to the final for Trothwands was arguably far tougher than their opponent's, as Malachi Lubret really pressed his claims for a recall. Another cup final victory would see Trothwands become the first Corradini Cup winners to retain the trophy.

Amelia Pitfield's commanding display at the heart of an ambitious Renneville midfield proved to be the decisive factor, as Malachi Lubret's claims took a knock. The Trothwands captain was unable to impose himself on the game at all, as Rodeny Birch and Gianni Marino combined their age-defying athleticism with experience to shut down the influential midfield general. After the defeat, Trothwands were left to dust themselves off and continue their unlikely title challenge.

The season progressed, and the gaps narrowed. Hastmead had risen to 14th with nine games remaining, sitting six points of the supposed "magic number" of forty points, generally assumed to be the lowest safe points total. Below them sat the usual suspects, with Maharia and Hamtown still propping up the league, the latter all but a lost cause, sitting twelve points from safety. The same number of points seperated 11th from 19th.

The title race remained absorbing, with the top four of Firewood, Trothwands, Burningham and King's Guard Sporting being seperated by just four points. Five points behind them sat Turic and reigning champions Greeningham. Although Firewood held a three point lead at the top, they were yet to face Trothwands, Burningham and Greeningham, and had already been beaten by King's Guard at The Cauldron. Suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Maharia at home had seemingly blown the title race wide open again.

On matchday 34, Firewood's thrilling 4-3 win at Junipa put the title out of reach for Turic - who fell at home to King's Guard in a horrific 6-2 drubbing - and reigning champions and fiercest rivals Greeningham City - who had been held to a 2-2 draw in Maharia. The title race was down to a four way run, and Firewood's four point lead looked set to be halved, as they were scheduled to face Burningham City next.

This stunning result effectively ended the challenge of Burningham City, who were left eight points behind Firewood with three games to go. As King's Guard also fell 2-0 at home to Charleston Athletic, the title looked like Firewood's to lose.

Charleston's shock win seemingly handed Firewood the title, but had grim consequences in the relegation scrap, where combined with Hamtown's draw at Highport meant the War Pigs were relegated, as they were left thirteen points from safety. Maharia remained eight points from safety with nine available, and although technically any team ranked 12th or below was still potentially in the mix, it looked like Maharia would join Hamtown, along with one from Hollybrent, Hastmead, Charleston and Paper Tree Town, who all sat on 40 points or less.

Matchday 36 saw Utica United draw with King's Guard Sporting at Crown Valley Stadium, while Greeningham suffered a convincing 3-0 defeat in The Cauldron, handing the title to Firewood in front of their fans in the sweetest of manners. The implications of the result at the other end of the table were that Utica were still in danger, needing three points from a home clash with Turic and an away trip to Charleston - who may need a win themselves - on the final day. Charleston's win over Turic the same day, combined with Maharia's 3-0 defeat at home to Renneville sentenced the Royal League runners up to relegation. The final slot would be taken by one from Hollybrent, Hastmead, Charleston, Paper Tree Town and Utica.

Matchday 37 saw King's Guard and Trothwands keep up their battle for second place - although Trothwands would get the Champions' Cup berth, due to King's Guard Sporting having commitments to the crown - while Turic and Greeningham battled for the chance of UICA competition, which would be granted to the fifth placed team in the King's League if Firewood won the OFA Cup final against Paper Tree Town.

The final day of the season saw King's Guard fall 3-1 at home to Blacktube Village, handing the runners-up spot to Trothwands, who crushed OFA Cup finalists Paper Tree Town 4-0. Paper Tree Town's defeat, incidentally, when combined with other results, saw them relegated. Had they won the match, they would have survived at the expense of Hastmead, who were pummeled 5-0 at Black Patch Park by Burningham City. Maharia's final day victory over Hamtown Athletic in The Sty was of no consequence, but perhaps restored some pride for the relegated club. Greeningham City's defeat at Junipa meant that Turic took the fifth place spot and a potential Globe Cup berth on the final day.

One week after the final King's League game of the season, we saw the OFA Cup final, contested between Firewood City and Paper Tree Town. their routes to the quarter finals had been somewhat similar, except Firewood needed two tries to take down Hollybrent - and then it was still close - while Paper Tree Town travelled to Applegrass to beat the Giants comfortably in their own backyard.

The quarter finals were interesting, with three teams from outside the top flight left in, including Phoenix League side Pinturici Rangers. Hastmead Diamante, despite their league troubles, had also managed to stay in the competition, no doubt looking to retain the cup.

Pinturici Rangers' fairytale run came to a heartbreaking end as Michael Beardsmore's 118th minute strike at The Cauldron ended their hopes of reaching the OFA Cup final. Elsewhere, Firewood City and King's Guard Sporting played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Benevolence Bowl. With an additional thirty minutes unable to seperate the two teams, penalties loomed. Despite their military training, and Orlando Florian's well publicized ineptitude at saving penalties, King's Guard Sporting were unable to convert even one of their spot kicks, leaving Firewood to wrap up the victory after just three kicks.

The final saw Firewood heavily favoured yet again, despite their seemingly acquired habit of losing cup finals. Jermain Lewis was clearly determined to prove a point for this one, though, as he was quoted in newspapers before the game as saying "Losing another cup final would kill us."

A quickfire double late in the second half from "The Wren" ended Paper Tree Town's hopes of salvaging something from their nightmare season. The final standings for the Royal League and O-Comm Phoenix League are below.

2045 Sorthern football season

Shield

Following the excitement of last years Shield it was back to the mind numbing boringness that the Shield usually offers up. Even it was actually the two best teams in the country last season playing each other for once. Corcaigh's goalscorers were someone or other. Do you really care enough for me to look up their squad?

The general consensus on those called upon pre-season to make their predictions was that the top flight would be dominated by one team. They were correct. To an extent at least. Rather than Corcaigh dominating it as they had predicted it was Snowspire playing under their new name of Snowspire Communal who finished top of the pile some eighteen points clear of second-placed Heathfield United. Probably largely in part due to Snowspire going through one of it's coldest winters in recorded history and many of their opponents being too frozen to play football.

Dirty northern bastards.

At the bottom end of the table it was a miserable season for minnows with St. Patrick's finishing bottom by some margin. Their fate was sealed by an unfortunate own-goal by Port of Clotaire loanee James Mag Flannagain in the dying minutes of what turned out to be a two-all home draw against East Reading on matchday 35. It would be fair to say that when Mag Flannagain returns to big Clotaire he won't be hugely missed by fans in Little Clotaire who never really took to him.

As is life.

An Blascoad Mór meanwhile went down after losing to fellow relegation battlers Beningrad in the final few matches of the season. Had Banna Rovers lost to St. Patrick's on the final day of the season, and An Blascoad Mór beaten Bimlico the Islanders could've stayed up. Surprisingly Pat's lost whilst Bimlico won one-nil. Not that it even helped them.

SFL Division Two

Just three points separated the top three sides going into the final match, and to make it even more exciting Rothsbere having gone into the final match top of the league managed to lose two-one at home to Wollongo. A late goal for Actarius in their match against Marx-Stadt meanwhile saw them clinch second, whilst New Ireland got a three-one home win over CF Septentrionien to secure the title.

Meanwhile, Tetherton, having been relegated from Division One last season decided to waste no time at all in the second tier by, erm, getting relegated from it. Perhaps they shouldn't concentrate so much on cup runs.

For anyone who has been unfortunate to follow the fortunes of Durness Pottery over the last few years it will come as little surprise that the Potters have become the first team to fall foul of the rules which states that if a team finishes bottom of the league three times in a row they are expelled. Who they shall be replaced by has yet to be confirmed. The SNFA meanwhile have confirmed that they are still accepting bribes from clubs hoping to step up from non-League and into the SFL.

Sorthern Cup

The Sorthern Cup has built itself something of a reputation for a tournament in which small clubs do well in in recent years. An all-Division Two final this season will have done little to rid it of that reputation. Having been relegated just the week before Tetherton somewhat made up for their piss-poor league campaign with a two-nil win in the final over Windlesham Town whose pain will have been made worse by them having missed out on the SBCC by just a point a week earlier.

Amusingly though (probably not that amusing for Tetherton fans actually) Tetherton won't be awarded the Globe Cup place they earned for winning the Cup after the SNFA refused them a UICA club license on the grounds of the shitty finances and impending period of examinership that has seen the club fall from the first tier to the third in just two seasons. Their place will instead go to Newstoke, partly for their finishing sixth in the SFL Division One despite scoring just twenty-six goals all season, and partly in memory of one of their fans who died due to extreme boredom. Despite this health risk a large number of Yaforite tourists are thought to be looking forward to following the team in the Globe Cup next season.

It's obvious now Cordian city are heading for a title they're top of the table by 7 points ahead of Harbour who are leaping at the opportunity to go up for the first time. Seven United and Lavatorian city the fave's for the title but they're both looking to go up now. 5th and 6th place is being contested by Team Lacot and Miloreo town who are currently in them but Multon Trioreo Rovers and Peepeeton are doing well.

2010 Bank of Tentalon Supreme League

A third league season, a third league title for Hartford City, but for the first time they take the title by fewer than twenty points. Crosstown rivals Hartford United remained in it until they were held to a draw by Stanley on matchday 36. As a consolation prize, United will get the second TQCC berth previously monopolized by Chadbourne City. Stanford City will make another Globe Cup appearance, as will Sudbury.

With the Sargossa national team manager's job up for grabs the powers that be could probably do a lot worse than taking a look at Gabriel Vizcarra, a man who seems to be making a habit of turning underachievers into champions. Two seasons ago he led Deportivo Soluca to their first title for the better part of two decades. This year, his first full season in charge at the Independiente, his El Nacional side had wrapped up the title long before matchday 38. Key to that success was their ability to soak up pressure before hitting lethal counter attacks with pace, power and precision. Wingers Daniel Bravo and Martín Reyes were both outstanding, as were overlapping fallbacks Tyrone Soro and new addition from Cafundéu, Matheus.

Their final game was a case in point. Deportivo Cordova battered their hosts in Goza but could find no way past Caerus Lamarti and Sergio Roca in the heart of defence. And then in one fluid move Roberto Guzmán won the ball, released Mateus down the flank and Fontova turned in his low cross for a one nil win. For their part José Marín's Deportivo were a shadow of the side that finished as runner's up last season. Despite some good acquisitions in the summer, such as Valladares international Julián Romero, the port city side could find no consistency.

The final day saw a number of shock home defeats. Defending champions Ciudad Soluca were already resigned to finishing in second but were simply blown away by a rampant Alianza Jucaro side, on loan Luís Jímenez scored twice with Sebastián Longo and Marquezian Nathan Hernandez getting the others. Little Motril looked dead and buried, needing a win in San Marquez, but they shocked the Larissan side with a spirited second half that saw the islanders come back from Leiva's opener to win a crucial three points at the death. And a troubled first season in charge at Deportivo Soluca for Júlio Mercegues came to an end with an awful 2 - 0 defeat to bottom side Machala Del Norte.

Success story of the season was certainly Dunas Del Sol who finished in a highest ever SuperLiga position of fifth, although only on goal difference from three other sides. In a thriller at the Estadio Del Sol player of the season Gabriel, snapped up from Cafundéu's São José in the summer, created two and then scored the winner as Roberto Estrada's side beat Petro Mercada 3 - 2. The win saw Dunas leapfrog Petro into that final Globe Cup spot. Despite that disappointment Petro could be satisfied with a much improved effort this season. Yet again Estrella Torreón just missed out on the international qualifier places. And yet again it was the away form that let José Cavalleri's side down although they showed their strength at home on the last day with a sound beating of midtable Rubio at altitude in Torreón.

Elsewhere Juan Manuel Del Rios stepped down after a dire goalless draw in Porto Alegro. Both his Dínamo and hosts the Azul have been going in the wrong direction of late after seasons challenging at the top of the table. Two teams delighted with lower-mid table obscurity were promoted Jaguarés and capitol small fry Racing Soluca, Licínio Viveros hitting the winner for Racing in this dead rubber in the jungle. It was a mixed season for the city of Goza as El Nacional's triumph was tempered by S.C.'s relegation. Former Nacional favourite Mario Quiñónez reportedly turned down the chance to become Vizcarra's assistant at the Independiente but elected to stay at S.C. But he could do nothing to save his side, who were long relegated before the final day home defeat to Ciudad Jucaro. The final relegation spot was taken by Cartago Rojo. The Rojo faithful celebrated survival with an excellent point in Mercadel before late Motril heroics down south in San Marquez burst the bubble.

This season's second tier was expected to be a romp for fallen giants Daroca Marinos at that's just how it proved to be. The Marinos lost just six games, finishing a massive fifteen points ahead of second placed Sportivo Maturín. Nuevo Onwere, a side founded by Marquezian immigrants, finished third to make their debut appearance in the SuperLiga. Anyone who thought a return to military rule would mean a return to glory for Defensor were delighted to be proved so very wrong. The army side fell through the trapdoor, along with fellow former SuperLiga outfits Santos and S.C. Valera, to wherever it is relegated sides from the Segunda actually go.

Far away from the bright lights of the Archipelago money told as the inaugural season of the Liga Azula went the way of Racing Delgadopolis. Coach Ciro Legrettini showed considerable tactical nous while the acquisitions of countrymen Eiras and Bira from Cafundéu went a long way to helping Racing life the big trophy. A final day 2 - 0 win over bottom side Heredia wrapped up the win in style. Provincial sides Mineros, from Maracay, and Piratas, representing Ariaco, both enjoyed debut seasons to remember while Estrellas, also from Delgadopolis, completed the top four. It was a bitterly disappointing show for the territory's second city Puerto Rosarío, the much fancied Reavers, boasting one of the league's best players in forward Hernán Sandoval, were their best finishers way back in eighth.

Bidding is now open for the title sponsorship of Series B Champions’ Cups 21–28. Bidding will close at the start of Series B Champions’ Cup 20. The following is required to submit a bid:

The name of the bidding company or product, as it will appear in the tournament name—preferably a single word or acronym. Bids will not be accepted from the San Diego County Credit Union.
The company or product’s wordmark, as it will appear in the tournament logo. This wordmark must be black on a transparent (or white) background, and in SVG or PNG format if possible. If the wordmark should merely be the name set in a particular typeface, please specify the face rather than providing an image. If the wordmark has already been submitted for a previous Series B Champions’ Cup or Super Cup bid, it need not be produced again unless it has changed, or did not meet the monochromaticity requirement.

Renewal of the current contract with Cygnus will automatically be considered. Companies from Cafundéu, Estresse Intenso, Paripana, Pasarga, and Valanora are ineligible to bid.

Between fifteen stadia, what a &$*% increase, nice stuff! The people responsible for choosing the stadium decided to play a board game, each one representing one of the stadia. After approximately thirty-six hours playing, one of the directors could finally claim victory, and the stadium he represented was then considered to be the "chosen one", with the other directors having to sadly pay to the winner. So, the host of the final will be the Olympic Tower Stadium, in Aeropag, Paripana (capacity 196,812).

Cordian city rovers Finish a perfect season almost. The finished top by miles and have been leading the pack the whole way. Lavatorian City finish in second just. Seven United and Harbour were very close to them in the end. Trioreo Rovers and Multon end up filling the last two spots. Team Lacot despite chasing the whole way finished 1 point short after a final day 4-1 defeat to Cordian city rovers Multon meanwhile lost so a win would have sent them up. They have missed out cruelly on an opportunity but they were never a prem standard team.

In between rounds, here's a Globe Cup update.

Both Babbage entries to the TakilQuip Champions Cup are now in the Globe Cup. Dover City and Real Santa Catalina each won their first two-leg tie and lost their second. As teams are eliminated from the Champions Cup they are seeded into later rounds of the Globe Cup depending upon their standing.

Four of the five eligible Babbage teams are still alive in the Globe Cup as it enters the fourth round, the eliminatory stage. The lone team out is Wye Celtic, who could not overcome a 4-2 loss in their opener against Qasarian City of Somewhereistonia. They played to a sound 1-1 draw in the second leg. Young Elizabeth Hanna, despite the initial loss, showed her mettle as a first-division keeper with a future.

Two teams are in the eliminatory stage. Real Santa Catalina will face the Aguazul club Piratas de Grisolon as modest underdogs. As for Bloomfield National, I'll do my best to send them home. National are playing my club, Clube Comercial of Cafundéu, and as much as I like my national team colleagues we're hungry to advance.

The last two teams, Dover City and Belgium FC, are in the fifth or qualifying stage. They will be joined by the survivors from the eliminatory stage. Dover City will play an opponent yet to be determined, and Belgium FC see their first action of the tournament against a tough Hondo FC side from Elves Security Forces. Emily Page of Sportgirls has had a breakout tournament up front for Dover City, and if she continues to play that far above her standard you have to like their chances. Belgium's future will ride on how seamlessly their five new acquisitions from Cassadaigua continue to merge into the team.

Zarblese Teams Ashamed in International Cups

TRIBE, KA - Both Zarblese teams suffered really humiliating defeats in the 22nd TakilQuip Champions’ Cup. Asia FC couldn't even see the ball in their ridiculous match against Queer Poco el Mono Ara's Pythons, losing the game 8-1. Warriors did no better in the second preliminary round, losing 6-2 for Sargossa's Ciudad Soluca. Both the coaches attributed their losses to the absense of titular players called to the Zarblese national team to play a friendly tournament in Toiletdonia (that didn't went well too, by the way)

Then, more disappointments in the 19th Globe Cup.
Pyramid AC passed through Daehanjeiguk's Seoan Bulsajo in the first preliminary round, only to be eliminated by Ad’ihan's Mountbatten Junction in the Selective Stage, after two defeats of 3-0 and 5-2. Battle and Asia FC ("relegated" from the Champions' Cup) also went down, as the first lost for Valladares's Metropolis Alligators by away goal rule and the second was defeated by Pasarga's Santos Luega after winning the first match.

Then we have Sygnus Series B Champions' Cup, and guess what? In the First prelimnary round, Xegei almost got there, but in the end the 4-4 tie was better to Eastfield Lodge's Macaronia FC, and Sligdish suffered a terrible loss to Queer Poco el Mono Ara's New Boys Royceton. In the Second, Flame lost 2-1 to The Weegies' Plaighlain FC. Watermen was the only Zarblese team to actaully do anything remarkable with its 4-1 win against The Weegies' Mackintosh Old Boys.

So, after this awful start, only Warriors (after being cut off TQCC) and Knights in the Globe Cup and Watermen in the Cygnus Cup are still disputing anything. Let's just see if they can get anywhere.

After a few games AFC Vatalors and Sewermouth are in the top two spots and are looking hopeful for a good season. Promoted Multon and Cordian City Rovers have a cracking start to the new season in 4th and 6th. The two great teams Vale and Leas are only in 3rd and 5th. Seven United, Trioreo Rovers and Trioreo Town the last two rivals are in the relegation spots. Harbour and Toileten hover just above relegation spots but still look unlikely to go down.

First Round
This time it was Sumbobor Tech that was cursed with the top seed, and in standard fashion they crashed out to the independents' lone representative, Salle State. Just like last year, the 2 and 4 seeds also made early exits, with Central Sumbobor perhaps showing why they weren't used to the postseason stage. Seibeng and Sumbobor State needed a little longer to pull off their first-round upsets. Then again, if 5 out of 8 lower seeds win, are they really upsets anymore?
