Hello, A&F. It's been a while since we had a short story contest, so I am starting a new one. To enter, just post your story in this thread.

Writing Deadline is June 30th (Subject to change)
6000 Word limit
No fanfic, public domain characters are fine
Mind the site rules
The story must be original (not published or previously posted on the internet)

The scoring rubric will be:

Characters: /25
Plot: /25
Setting: /15
Creativity: /15
Style: /15
Grammar and Spelling: /5
Overall Score: /100

Judges: Conserative Morality, New World Oceania, and Kannap

Yes, you post it on this thread. Usually people spoiler the story, but that's not an actual requirement, just good etiquette because the stories tend to be longer than a normal forum post.

I debated whether to put spring or summer, but went with summer because it'll be summer by the time the contest ends.

You won't be disqualified, but it will be judged on how well it works as a short story. You'll probably lose points for incomplete plot and characters arcs.

Just wondering: Is narrative poetry allowed, as long as it meets the other requirements?

EDIT: Nothing more complicated than blank verse, of course; I wouldn't want to be too far divorced from a "proper" short story.

Both of those are allowed, but will still be judged on how well they work as short stories.

I'll judge, if necessary. It's not as if I'm biased towards mortifyingly weird Joycean stream-of-conciousness with scarring plots or anything.

This is why there are three judges, to account for the fact different people have different tastes. Lemme go edit the OP...
