HISTORY

Minji Island was colonized by Romanesian people at least 2000 years ago.
This people, 1500 years ago, was already divided in 9 tribes: Nadan, Gevar, Jikan, Yaran, Ravar, Yesar, Weqan, Pojan, Rosar.
These tribes gave birth to 9 tiny city-states who lived of agriculture and were engaged in short wars once in a while, for the control of the coastal area of the island or the forest in the inner part of Minji. In 789 a.d. Minji was invaded by Daraken pirates, who made into a refuge the eastern half of the island, forcing the inhabitants of 5 city-states to go west and turning the other ones into puppet regimes. 100 years later an army composed by warriors of every tribe attacked the occupied territory using terroristic tactics, reconquering the whole island in 10 years. 899 a.d. is the date from which the Minjian people counts years. The victorious tribes decided to rebuild the cities destroyed by the Daraken, and instituted a confederative government, in which the 9 city-states were governed through direct democracy, while the whole state was governed by a warrior elected every 10 years. Even using old Daraken ships, Minjian people sailed to the largely uninhabited Kanan Islands, who were annexed into the Confederacy in 1200 a.d. An age of peace and prosperity followed, but in 1500 a.d. the colonial power of the Empire of Cornaredo conquered the entire territory due to superior technology and founded the Protectorate of Minei and Cana. The islands were part of the Empire until its defeat by the Paranian army in a war. The Paranian Head of State proposed to Yakav, an inhabitant of the Kanan islands who emigrated to Parania, to rule the country. So, he re-established the Confederacy, but he did not restore the democratic institutions: he became an absolute ruler, declaring himself Emperor of Minji and Kanan.

POLITICS

The territory of the nation is divided among the proper Confederacy of Minji and the Territory of Kanan.
The Confederacy is divided into 9 cities (Tana). Each city is governed by a Regent (Maka) nominated for life by the Emperor, who has absolute power over the assigned city. So, the laws of a city can be different from the ones of another city. The Emperor can put a veto on a Regent's decision whenever he wants or replace the Regent, but he does not rule himself. The Territory of Kanan is divided into 7 Regions and 1 Autonomous Region. The Regions are directly controlled by the Emperor, and the appointed Regent is only one who executes the Emperor's orders. The Autonomous Region of Hakai, the Emperor's birthplace, is home to a democratic government that outdates the Confederacy. At the death of an Emperor, a new one is elected among all the Regents.

ECONOMY

The Confederacy's economy depends for the 30% on agriculture and the production of drugs. Growing, production and consumption of marijuana, hashish and opium is the norm, and peasants who grow drugs are even privileged by the law. Another strong point of the state is prostitution, and even due to cultural reasons the percentage of the people who sold their body for money is an half of the population. The National Drug Association and the National Prostitution Association are maybe the biggest state enterprises of the entire region. Fishing is also important, and the government permits to the people who are part of the National Fishing Association to hunt sharks, whales and dolphins, who is forbidden to privates. In the Territory there is also a casinò mainly visited by tourists and strangers, since most of the Territory's population is too poor for poker. Due to the existence of a number of government controlled Associations who control every aspect of the economy and take the 50% of the people's earnings, the country's funds are huge, and since some cities and Regions of the state are tax havens, the National Bank of Minji (the only bank allowed by the government) is a fairly big bank.

DEMOGRAPHICS

The Confederacy is inhabited by 25000 individuals, 50% of which are under 18.
The main ethnicity (60% of the population) is the Nadanian, who absorbed several other ethnicities. There is a 30% of Cornaredians, none of which retains the culture of the motherland. The remaining 10% of the population is divided between people from other countries and indigenous inhabitants of Kanan, who are circa 1100. Nadanian language is spoken by the 95% of the population, but there are various dialects such as the West Nadanian, the East Nadanian and the Kananite Nadanian. Other languages are the native Kananite tongue and several foreign languages. The 95% of the population is religious: 50% of the citizens are Pagan, while a 20% is Buddhist, a 10% is Hinduist, another 10% is Christian and the remaining 5% is Muslim.

ARMY

The Confederacy of Minji has not an army, but has a police force of 3000 individuals. This police force has the order to arrest or shoot whoever goes against the law, without a trial. Enlistement is voluntary, but only the individuals most loyal to the nation and the Emperor are admitted. The Confederacy has also 5 tanks, 2 war ships and 3 MIGs. The leaders of the police force are directly appointed by the Emperor, just like the members and leaders of the secret services, who are probably made of 30 individuals. The police force is called National Police Corps, and the secret services are the Hadok, meaning "Shadow". The Emperor has also a personal army of 100 individuals, the Yara (Fortress).
