History of Rejistania

Rejistanian history consists of a number of different states and their transition:
  • The pre-rejistanian time
  • The first republic
  • The karelan government (The karelacracy)
  • The second republic
  • The fragmentation
  • The third republic

Rejistania used to be a place in which different tribes lived more or less apart from each other - with the occaional war and tribal cruelty, but nothing you would not expect from natives living in the jungle in primitive circumstances. While some larger realms existed, nothing like a united state was even thought of.

This changed when a foreign power invaded Rejistania and foced the tribes to fight back united. Vedans fought on the same side of Minokajetians, Lajikin on the same side as Seleken and Isesi. After a costy war, and despite technological inferiority, the Rejistanis won. The resistance realized that the only way to secure the country was unity and development. The first Rejistanian nation was founded.

The different tribes did not trust each other that much and thus the government was not only democratic but it was extremely easy to remove a Lentine Mje'he from power. Despite that, the first Lentine Mje'he, Hank͜hila Sede ruled for more than 30 years, the country was trying to be western and tribal barbary was concealed behind a facade of civilization. After the death of Hank͜hila Sede, the Lentine'ny mje'he never had as much respect and the right to utviimkamsa was used frequentlz bz the rejistanian parliament. The general feeling of instability helped anti-Rejistanian sides to gain influence: The Temple of Karela (see Religion section, TBC) used the distraction of a major soccer match (a 3rd place playoff, which makes the revolution known as the 'vinali tikira revolution') to start a coup leading to the Rejistanian karelacracy.

The Karelacracy was the rule of the temple of karela via methods of mind-control. There is little to be said about this period of time which makes it look in an at-least semi-positive light. People did not have to revert to the old ways, but the economy suffered, civil rights were no more and the people were subjected to the arbitrary rules of their karelan overlords. Even the sport suffered. When the Orange-Blues, the national soccer team lost in a final, which they should have been won if not for the forced defensive 'System Karela', even the brainwashing of the Karelan government could no longer perevent the wrath of the people. The Karelans fled to an uninhabited island where they founded a nation called System Karela.

The revolutionaries seemed to be unwilling to attempt to design a completely new constitution and instead returned to an almost pre-karelan system. While it was intended to be a temporary meassure, it is a well-known adage that nothing lives as long as a temporary solution. Later governments never had the majority to actually change the rejistanian political system to stabelize it, with the exception of the introduction of minimal term limits for the Lentine Mje'he. The Rejistanian people were more and more disconnected with the government which seemed random to them and in a more-or-less unplanned act voted invalid.

The Rejistanian government under Tade͜n Lii reacted in panic and mis-constructed this as an act of terror by anarchists. While the government was searching for whoever might have been responsible for the disruption of the democratic process the allied nation of Allanea offered help. Unfortunately, Lii'he agreed, unknowing that the allanean definition of help was 'liberation' and installation of a puppet government. The reaction of the 'tani was a special form of disobedience, region after region (or rather: rekijo after rekijo) declared independence from the central government.

The Allaneans left the country in a hurry upon the rumors of a disease which turned Rejistania into a hivemind as explanation of the amazing synchronity of the rejistanian disvoting. The Association of free rejistanian nations, which formed out of what used to be Rejistania, never had much power or influence, but what little it had decreased over time. Rekijonal currencies came into existance and even the Rejistanian Soccer Association ASR collapsed. During the last years of the fragmentation, the 'national' rejistania soccer team came from the nation of KaMaRi.

At some point, Allanea apparently realized that they had unfinished business in the 'tani and that the fragmentation made it easier for them to finish what it started. Military threats and attacks on the country were started. The rejistanian governments were forced under this thread to cooperate. Chairwoman Jahane San of the the Asene got extended rights under the emergency-clauses of the Asenical constitution. A while later, the allaneans destroyed the undersea cables which connected the 'tani to the world with lots of overkill and even the re-unified military could not prevent the Allanean attacks. The AFNR was forced to agree to the Allanean requirements for peace, which conveniently involved a large transfer of legal tender to Liberty City.

Out of the piles of metaphorical rubble, the war left behind, Jahane San tried to form something at least vaguely reminding of a unified nation. Of course, Jahane San could have continued to rule like a dictator, but she was one of the major forces behind the new constitution, which not only establishes a tricameral system instead of the former unicameral one, but also required its ratification by the people.

The Government

The third republic is subdivided into 16 nanti'ny (the tern nanti is a loan word of the word 'nation'). Due to the fact that occasionally the names of places are different in different languages, the nanti'ny are named after virtues (with the exception of KaMaRi and Iknel since the names are well-established):

Nanti Simu (honor)
Nanti KaMaRi (named after the city KaMaRi which is the abbreviation for Kalimnintan, Maiju, and Riandu)
Nanti Likhat (peace)
Nanti Linux (liberty)
Nanti Kansu (dignity)
Nanti Iknel (core)
Nanti Xalki (courage)
Nanti Sikire (development)
Nanti Yri (success, not quite a irtue, but close enough for the rejistanis)
Nanti Diharis (spirituality)
Nanti Hakela (intent)
Nanti Xkeja (tolerance)
Nanti Jada (music)
Nanti Veran (green refering to ecologically correct behavior)
Nanti Kivsi (competence)
Nanti Korona (prosperity)

The country is also subdivided into 1024 rekijo'ny, which are the formerly independent nations. Howeer, the borders of the Rekijo'ny and the Nanti'ny are not related to each other, so that one Rekijo can be in several nanti'ny. Every rekijo and nanti has its own democratic representation of different size. The rights of the rekijo'ny are defended on federal level by the Naiken'het Lentine Rekijo (NLR, rekijonal parliament), the rights of the nanti'ny by the Naiken'het Lentine Nanti (NLN, Nantical parliament). Every rekijonal parliament sends two presesentatives to the NLR, and every nantical parliament sends one representative to the NLN.

Below the level of the rekijo are the kalesa'ny which are roughly similar to the congressional districts: They elect representatives for the Naiken'het Lentine Tani (NLT, federal parliament).

The NLT, the NLN and the NLR elect a first representative (Lentine Mje'he) out of their mids . These represenataives for together the head of state.

The structure looks somehow like this:

Image

The arrows with 2 heads mean that a Hani-System is being used in the elections, the single head means that an IRV system is used to elect one or several representatives out of their mids. The square symbol at the end of an arror outlines the way a law has to pass before getting accepted. The full procedure of how a law gets passed is located here (56k warning).

The Hani system is named after its inventor Ilakim Hani. In Hani elections, there is not one single winner and no representative body of fixed size. Instead, every candidate who reaches a certain limit amount of votes advances. The percentage of the vote he or she received is his hani value (eha'het hani). In the parliament, the vote a delegate has is based on the hani number.

Another remarkable fact is that the rejistanian period of legislation (3 years) has far less significance since every 3 months, another group of non-adjacent kalesa'ny have their elections to replace their part of the NLT. The period of legislation is only the time between 2 elections in one kalesa.

This is the current government of Rejistania. the heads of state and the ministers:

Lentine mje'he (president): Jahane San (Liside rejistaniha lavamje, liside likhat)
Lentine xi'he (vice president): Seli I Hasyaka (Liside exena, liside etju, liside veran)
Lentine nanti mje'he (president of the Nantical parliament): Jaku Syku (liside amaky, liside korona)
Lentine nanti xi'he (vice president of the Nantical parliament): Akina I Suaeme (liside sanhu, liside Sahatedi)
Lentine rekijo mje'he (president of the Rekijonal parliament): Xkeliko Kansu (liside KoIn, liside korona)
Lentine rekijo xi'he (president of the Rekijonal parliament): Ethana Maku (liside ivederalije, liside sivana)

Imxara'he divensi (minister of defense): Halanenedaka Ki (Liside divensi, liside SiJaIn)
Imxara'he alari (minister of justice): Ji-Nva Is (Liside lajikin, liside linux)
Imxara'he katahyki (minister of infrastructure): Kaou I Jiene (liside korona xentira, liside rejistaniha lavamje)
Imxara'he sis'het (minister of the Exterior): Imira Jenji (liside tanimesit, liside ynu)
Imxara'he sen'het (minister of the Interior): Karela Kansu (liside linux, liside texnija)
Imxara'he exkola (minister of education): Viskore Te-Vin (liside redy, liside exko'tan hakim, liside kamex)
Imxara'he relixa kovomin (minister of finance): Skani I Kalani (liside veran, liside selakit, liside KaMaXi)
Imxara'he indusije ji sikire'tan (minister of industry and development): Y Juikara (liside rejistaniha lavamje, liside jasika, liside exkira ines)

Random facts: Currency

Rejistania has the official currency Kitivalha (plural: Kitivalha'ny) but many private ones exist as well. The common currency symbol is the ¤ followed by an abbreviation of the currency. Ie: 10¤KT means 10 Kitivalha'ny. 10¤VK means 10 Veshinte KaMaRi, one of the private currencies.

The exchange rate is: 1 USD ~= ¤KT0·58115, despite that officially the Kitivalha has no subunit. (Inofficially, it is considered to be seperated in 1000 ti: 0·5 Kitivalha can be "Kitival xihim"/"Ky xihim" (1/2 Kitivalha) or "Ti de ry" (500 ti) in colloquial speech. This is because the nicknames "ky" (thousand) and "ti" (short, in this context: remainder) were already used with the former currency, the Lil'kansu. 1000 Lil'kansu'ny became 1 Kitivalha and this still shapes the perception. The difference between the 2 meaningy of ky can be disambiguated by the position to the number: The unit is on the left side of it. 1000 Ky would be: "ky mje ky" or "ky ky".)

The Kitivalha coins and banknotes have the following images:
Coins (¤KT0·010, ¤KT0·025, ¤KT0·050, ¤KT0·100, ¤KT0·250, ¤KT0·500) have no faces on them but on one side their amount in Arabic and Rejistanian numbers, on the other side the scales and the national motto.

For the banknotes one side shows the government building (the spire), the other one the face of one important Rejistani:
¤KT1 Jahane San, first lentine mje'he tani of the 3rd republic
¤KT2·5 Ilakim Hani, revolutionary in the war of independence, inventor of the Hani system
¤KT5 Syku Lyku, soccer player in the first republic who later became lentine mje'he for 1 month
¤KT10 Siki Rej, computer scientist, inventor of several important algorithms
¤KT25 Mesiti͜l Tixav, linguist, the leading force behind the creation of the rejistanian language.
¤KT50 Shialasnu Lte-Mji, civil rights activist during the 2nd republic
¤KT100 Kansu I Kansu, mathematician (operations research)
¤KT250 Hatakele Le͜n, biologist
¤KT500 Hank͜hila Sede, first Lentine mje'he during the first republic

Rejistanian culture:
I think this might help to get a feeling about how the culture in the 'tani is:

If you're Rejistanian

* You believe in two contrary forces in the world, but the name you give them differs depending on where you are from.
* You're familiar with the all members of the rejistanian governing council, Hank~hila Sede (first head of state and government), Kansu Iknel (actor), Jdesi Syku (actress), Idine and Hekure Sala (radio speakers) and Kekeken and Nininin (famous comic)
* You know Soccer (which is very important in the nation), field hockey and mjinen, you might know ice hockey and baseball and american football exist, but that's it unless you're in a kalesa with foreigners
* Three to six weeks of vacation are normal

If you died tonight...

* You expect to be reincarnated, your status in the next life depends on your simu
* You think Fast Food is sold in small stands at public places
* You probably own a telephone, if not, know many public telephones in your area, you most likely own a radio and a TV. You do your laundry in a machine, even though it might not be your own. You don't kill your own food. You don't have a dirt floor. You eat at a table, sitting on chairs.
* You don't consider dogs, cats, monkeys, or guinea pigs to be food, some insects are tasty however
* A bathroom may not have a bathtub in it but has a toilet.
* It is normal that railroads, the telephone system, internet infrastructure and public transport are run by private companies, power plants and water-related infrastructure are run by the government
* You expect telephones to work, getting a new phone is routine unless you are in the middle of nowhere.
* The train system is excellent. A train is faster than a car
* Flying domestically is for those with too much money
* You don't know any domestic political parties, in elections you vote for individuals
* The idea of a directlyelected fixed-size parliament appears odd to you
* 'Black' and 'foreign' are skin colours
* You think most problems could be solved if only people would start working more efficiently for a change.
* You are not likely to sue anyone or be sued
* You know foreign languages, as well as rejistanian, which is a foreign language to you
* You wonder what income tax is but think sales tax of more than 20% is normal
* Education is free (at least as option)

Everybody knows that

* Shaving cream comes in cans, milk comes in bottles, mustard comes in jars if it is sold at all
* The date is YY/MM/DD
* The decimal point is a point in mid height if you are using arabic numbers.
* A thousand million is "sykansu", not billion (even though the official term is derived from that)
* You do not need to write trailing zeros since writing 2ke for 20, 2ry for 200, 2ky for 2000 is less easy to misread. That said, you freely mix the rejistanian and arabic numbers
* You expect marriages to be made out of choice or reason, but not against the consent of the couple. The marriage is confirmed by a government official, religious ceremonies are optional but common
* If a man has sex with another man, he is homosexual and you do your best not to notice
* You call people by their last name followed by a 'he if showing respect and by their first name or nickname is being colloquial
* If your a woman, you can go to the beach topless or nude, but you probably will not
* a hotel room has a shared bathroom, unless it is high-class
* you watch foreign films preferably dubbed, but quite often they do not exist in your first language so you watch a dubbed rejistanian version
* Transacting business and dealing with the government works best with 'ymeti rejistaniha' (private transactions, which are not necessarily legal)
* If a politician has been cheating on his wife, you don't care much. No one is perfect, su?
* You transfer money via interbank transfer
* You don't own a credit card, but probably a ATM card. Stores only accept cash, they will accept many private currencies though.
* You think that it is normal that a multitude of currencies exist inside of the country
* A company can fire workers for any reason
* You like your bacon crunchy

"It is a deal, su?"

* If you are plumber than average it does not improve your looks, being taller however does.
* You're used to having a wide variety of choices for almost anything you buy-- if you can afford it, of course.
* You use the metric system
* Chances are high that you are working in a factory, in the tourism-sector if you live near the beach, as a code monkey or for the government if you live in Sike kali. You might be a farmer.
* The people who appear on the most popular talk shows are mostly entertainers, musicians and sportsmen, politicians appear on less popular shows
* You think the VW Beetle would be a medium sized car if it existed ICly
* You drive on the right side of the road, you generally take traffic rules as suggestions and cross the road as pedastrian rather carefully
* Policemen are armed, but not with submachine guns or the like, we are a civilized country, su?
* There are areas you want to avoid, but that depends on which team won
* Inflation is lowish, and unemployment 'a bit too high'
* You care about what ethnic group someone comes from, the family is less important
* Opera and ballet are rather elite entertainments. It's likely you don't see that many plays, either. You do see soccer matches live however.
* Christmas is a marketing ploy, period! You do not care about it (unless you are part of the christian minority)
* Televangelists seems like a strange concept to you
* Lawyers seem like a strange concept to you as well. Law is either 'arranged' or obvious.

Space and Time

* If you have an appointment, and come five minutes too late, no one expects you. Everyone knows that appointments have quite a delta t
* If you're talking to someone, you get uncomfortable if they want any kind of body contact like shaking hands, but on the other hand, foreigners will think you approach too close.
* Bargaining is a game at every expensive buy
* It is common that people who live near each other visit each other, also without invitation
* When you negotiate, you are polite. This sometimes means not stating clearly what you mean, but you are okay with that.

How other nations see Rejistania:

Station 12 wrote:The Unified Federation of Rejistania
JOY unit is utterly confused by this nation. The amount of freedom and choice given is completely unnecessary and dangerous, and yet you have an extremely low crime-rate. The only logical explanation is that Registania does not actually exist, and is an elaborate hoax to confuse JOY unit.

Ramsetia wrote: -The Unified Federation of Rejistan-

Your history is an intriguing and interesting series of events, and we are beginning to notice a pattern of warring tribes being unified by outside influence. Your method of denoting 10s, 100s, and 1000s, is quite interesting, and pleasing to the eye and mind. The focus of your nation's populace upon something frivolous like Football does alarm us, seeming to our culture to be a method of control over the people. However, we are certain we're wrong in that regard.

The utilisation of multiple seperate currencies confuses us, as does the complexities of your governmental system, however, with so many distinct sub-cultures in your nation, the arrangements do begin to make a certain amount of sense. After careful study.

We outright applaud your ability to confuse the JOY unit, as that AI had it coming. We would like to discuss a reward should you be able to do the same to that command prompt that's been running around the diplomatic channels and refusing to lay down at a logical paradox like a good little programme.

Korintar wrote:The Rejistanians remind Korintar of the Free Democracy (pre-anarchy) days, and they have much respect for the nation. With that said, Korintar has seldom supported a corporate run, heirarchical laissez-faire market system as a good way to run an economy. The Korintari people view Rejistanian economic policy as socially irresponsible, corrupt, and authoritarian- despite the common libertarian culture between the two nations. The Korintari people would be interested in relations with the Rejistani people, if they do not exist already. Several of our newest ambassadors have studied the Rejistani language and have proven themselves fluent in the language.

Zeppy wrote:The Unified Federation of Rejistania

The Federal Republic of Zeppy is extremely fond of The Unified Federation of Rejistania. Rejistania is the epitome of freedom, democracy and decentralization that Zeppy strives to achieve. The average Zepese citizen would be perplexed due to the complex language and the over bureaucratic government but would understand that it is established as to prevent government growth. Zepese citizens would love to stay in Rejistania and would probably want to become Rejistanian citizens.

As such, the Federal Republic would love to have a glimmering positive connection with Rejistania.

Grade: A+

Swilatia wrote:Rejistania
For the most part Rejistania is another example of a free and democratic nation, but a rather unusual one. We haven't been able to figure out exaclty how their political system is supposed to work, but we're guessing that it's supposed to be democratic. There's no shortage of personal or economic freedoms either, and they don't seem to share our crime problem. Still, they're just so weird...

Maraque wrote:Many on the Advisory Council are scratching their heads at the overwhelmingly confusing structure of government, but admits that it seems to function well.

It also notes the very laid back libertarian social environment, which we found refreshing. Also of note is the decent economy and infrastructure, and relative wealth. There aren't very many negatives, and we believe Rejistania to be an upstanding nation and is admired by the Advisory Council for it's freshness and pleasant appeal.

Grade: 9.0/10

New Imperial England wrote:Rejistaniais considered by many in New Imperial England to be a fair nation, fillef with admired diversity and history. It is not a Monarchy, but it is unique with three legislatures. In any case, Rejistania is a liked nation. Overall, Rejistania recieves a 7/10 from New Imperial England.

Goldsaver wrote:Rejistania: As a democratic republic, we look upon you favorably. We do not have much else we can say about you.

Old Tyrannia wrote:Rejistania
The Empire sees Reijistania as an interesting but unimportant democracy. Reijistania has a more distinctive culture than some of the democracies the Empire tends to deal with but remains a weak and misguided democracy by the Empire. Once again, the Empire cannot see it's relationship with Reijistania as anything other than indifference but is constantly vigilant for fear of a possible threat developing, or perhaps an opportunity to form a new alliance, though the former is considered more likely.

Minotzia wrote:Minotzia finds that the history of Rejistania is very unstable, but that the current government is in an acceptable state. Most of the policies promoted by their government are at least tolerable. Foreign policy isn't particularly outlined, so Minotzia has to form an opinion based on their domestic structure. The Rejistanian government seems to be too idealistic and based in religious values for a secular government, and realist policy (as far as we can tell) has evaporated from their legislative body. If given an opportunity for diplomatic talks, Minotzia would stress the importance of increasing foreign direct investment into the Rejistanian economy, and giving tax breaks to large businesses in order to attract that investment.

Imeriata wrote:

Rejistania is another of countless nations whom attempts to combine multinational monarchy with democracy but have as most of them decided to withhold a king from the general public. This have lead to widespread depression were inferior people attempts to compete with their socially superior on equal conditions*. they have as many liberal nations a disturbing tendency to force change for change alone upon their poor subjects their strange and irrational decisions include but are not limited to; a law that forbids all salmons to live in the ocean and all rabbits to live on land. This resulted a long and costly campaign to move all said species to their new habitats in an attempt to create the most liberal environment**
* this have been known to cause a felling of failure and explains why the suicide rate is so high in similar nations.
** needless to say have they caused the extinction of their rabbit and salmon populations.

Greater Americania wrote:Unified Federation of Rejistania:

Farleyist government (Acting): The Unified Federation of Rejistania is far too deregulated to be considered an ideal country. They don't have an individual head of state, but on the contrary add even more bureaucracy to the executive department, by making their 'head of state' a council body. As if a empowered democratic legislature wasn't enough! Furthermore, they allow far too many freedoms to their own people.

Loyalist government-in-exile: The Unified Federation of Rejistania is a country that is far too laizzez-faire to do itself any good. The common people are exposed to subjugation by large companies, and power in their country is far too decentralized and far too condensed into a bureaucracy to be as productive as our government will be once we come to power. They still have room for advancement. They are unredeemable and may still be respected in the future should they reform themselves. Even though they have made the mistake of instating their current government, if they were to correct it, they would be worthy of Greater Americanian approval.

Greater Americanian people (in general): The Unified Federation of Rejistania is an ok country, in the sense that they haven't ever moved against Greater Americania in war. However, their economic system is lacking in comparison. Our main problems with this country is that they rely so heavily on the laizzez-faire system, which leaves the common people available to being exploited by the upper classes.

Soccer

Jurutu'het ly min'aru: vkemi'het ji ixunus'het ji ehasalan'het.

(three horrible things exist: illness, death and relegation.)

Rejistanis are pretty soccer crazy, just in case you have not noticed yet. Some people say that only due to the existance of the H1SR, the first rejistanian soccer league, the Orange-Blues and the domestic cup, Rejistania remains unified.

Domestic Soccer

The Asene Sekhika Rejistaniha is the rejistanian soccer association. It does not only control the official league-structure but also the national team. However, other associations, founded in the time of the fragmentation still have their own leagues which coexist with the Sistenha Heven Sekhika Rejistaniha (also know as the HxSR system). The league structure in Rejistania uses the terms heven'het and divisasi to refer to a league. These terms are not synonyms though, a heven'het is a horizontal division (1st vs 2nd), a divisasi is a vertical division (east vs west) of the amount of teams. The first league of course has no internal division, but for the second one, there are 2 divisasi, the H2SR jya (east) and the H2SR kisut (west). Every divisasi has 16 teams and in every one except the highest one the winner gets promoted while the two lowest teams relegate unless there is no league to relegate to anymore. If there is just one divisasi below the upper one, the two best teams in that one get promoted.

The rejistanian soccer is stereotyped as being defensive and mostly having scoreless draws. This, as so many stereotypes is utterly false. There are many teams, which play a very attacking, takilan kind of soccer, even though teams like Karela Lines are still playing the hyperdefensive System Karela.

Former champions:
Sikane Sekhika
Itamil Itera
Karela Lines

The Xamjona'het Tani Sekhika Rejistaniha or the Rejistanian Domestic Soccer Cup is a knockout tournament in which all H1SR teams from the last season, the best 8 H2SR teams of each divisasi, the best 4 H3SR teams out of every divisasi, the best 2 H4SR teams of every divisasi and every finalist of the 16 nantical competitions of amateur teams (the so-called nanticals). Its fixtures are randomized, so some H1SR teams might meet its rivals from the first league while others might play against a lucky H8SR team which just happened to win the semifinal of its nantical.

Former winners:
Maharis Maru (at that time H2SR)
Kalisimu Salan (H2SR)

International Soccer

The rejistanian national soccer team is nicknamed the Orange-Blues (in Rejistanian: Junis-Omeh'he'ny), that is because it uses the Orange and Blue colors of the rejistanian flag as its team colors (the white and the red (of the flag of the Association of free rejistanian Nations) are used for the alternative kits):

While the Orange-Blues used to be a very successfull team, its successes seem to have stopped after the vinali-revolution. However, the book Crazyness Encouraged by Simeone di Bradini even named an epoch after the Rejistanis: http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=T ... _of_Karela . The Orange-Blues have won the world cup 4 times: The 12th, 17th, 18th and 24th installment.

The Young Orange-Blues (the rejistanian term Junis-Omeh'he'ny Hexax actually means adolescent Orange-Blues), ie the rejistanian U21 team also was quite successfull and won the 5th, 10h, and 11th installment of the U21 cup.
