I had thought of a new type of RP... based around a medical drama like Grey's Anatomy, characterisation-filled and slow-burning RP, but how would it work in practice?

I do watch a fair few medical dramas; seen Casualty, Grey's Anatomy, Emily Owens MD... just wondering, would this type work? (or even, for that matter, an actual Grey's Anatomy RP? After all, we've had The Walking Dead and Doctor Who...)

Doctor Who only persists because Astro and I are fucking stubborn. (The other one we have floating around I've not been paying attention to.)

Those things are speculative fiction, though. Very different in terms of branding, as they carry their own unique universe, so you can model an RP after them without it seeming cheesy. It would be much safer to go with a unique name.

I see. I'm not a regular here on P2TM, so I was floating the concept about, rather than the idea. Either way, trying to come up with a good character-driven one hasn't quite worked for me (this one failed due to lack of interest and me not being able to come up with plotlines.

Anyhow... I would appreciate help coming up with a good idea.

I have the basic groundwork; character-driven drama, modern-day etc. but finding the right sort of 'realistic' setting is the hard part.

I'm currently trying to make the story of the DLC make sense, any ideas?

High Concept: So, the cold war is in full swing. Both the US and USSR have been funding 'paranormal' and 'psychic' weapons. What if these projects had succeeded? That is what this RP would be about

Detailed Description: It's 1959, the cold war is at its peak. Fear grips the nations of the US and USSR as the threat of nuclear war becomes more and more possible as the days tick by. However, there are weapons the public are unaware of, and they are everywhere. These are not conventional weapons like bombs or guns, no, these are gifted individuals or those how have been trained. Their memories of training and conditioning wiped from their heads, but programmed to follow orders with a simple code word or phrase. They could be your neighbor, your aunt, your mom, little Timmy that lives down the street. They are everywhere and could even be you. There are these people with false pasts everywhere across the globe, from China to America, each to complete a set of orders when given the phrase, they could range anywhere from killing the president, or stealing some mail from a foreign diplomat. These spies were doing well, too well, something was bound to happen eventually.

That was when the public found out.

It all started when someone accidentally activated one of the sleepers in... (I dunno) and sparked a riot, this was an 56 year old woman, who was talking to her grandson. This didn't get people aware, it made them suspicious, but not aware. What got them was the fact that moles in the operation 'leaked' the information in the NY Times, which made international headlines in days, the US and USSR denied any involvement in the operations described at first, but they both had to eventually declassify information on the topic. Some psychics and assassins were dismissed of duty at first, bringing about a wave of contentment and happiness but also one of racism and discrimination, people in the world, once they knew psychics were real, went to great extents to make it known psychics were not welcome. Although it could not be proven if you were a psychic or not, the stereotype was some sort of silent person who strayed away from groups, they were called Psiggars, even though some didn't even have psychic ability. Soon a psychic civil rights movement was started in America and other nations, soon, several organizations exploiting or protecting psychics began to pop up left and right and the governments claim to have dismissed all their agents.

Only they didn't. The US and USSR couldn't afford to release their best spies and assassins, and so kept them in service. It wasn't long before each found out what the other was doing and tensions were made even worse. However, no information was disclosed to the public. No one knows that an underground war could break out at any moment, they were still considered about the destruction of their homes, not their minds.

Basically, this would be a character RP where players could build up their psychic corporate gold mines/help centers/protection agencies. Or assist the governments of the USSR and US in spying on and killing key figures of the time, or maybe leading a revolution in the nations and breaking free of their 'shackles' to them. Maybe the player would gain leadership status in either nation and purposely lead WW3 so psychics would be the only survivors and be the overlords Or they could be some anti-psychic conservative who wants nothing with them. So it is not a linear RP in any sense.

Ideas, thoughts, death threats, interest all appreciated.

No magic, no superpowers, no Navy SEAL training, just normal people thrown into an abnormal situation like resisting a foreign occupation. Except then I have to rip off either Homefront, Red Dawn or the latest Call of Duty for the storyline because I can't come up with anything myself.
