Overview

The Genesis GA11 tri-jet is designed for long haul flights, offering the same standards of comfort and reliability that Genesis is known for but with 3 engines instead of two engines, the GA11 can fly over the same long routes that 4 engined aircraft are permitted to fly and twin engined aircraft are not, however with the added advantage of reduced fuel burn over the 4 engined aircraft.

Flight control
Rather than a central control column for the co pilot and the pilot, instead the GA11 uses a side-stick arrangement to control flight, this side stick sends electrical impulses to the control computers, of which there are 4 aboard the GA11, from these computers the commands to move the relevant control surface are sent, with each flight control surface powered by high torque servo actuators with conventional hydraulics acting as a back up. This makes the GA11 a very responsive aircraft to fly, giving pilots confidence and comfort.

As well as the traditional pitot tube to measure airspeed, the GA11 can also take data from GPS satellites, this ensures the flight control system has a constant, accurate flow of speed data, whilst on board sensors detect exactly what the aircraft is doing, ensuring that the GA11 is not going out of its flight envelope due to outside influences such as a strong crosswind during landing. In case of a computer failure, the remaining flight control computers will shut that computer down and bring up an alert display on the crew information system screen, a feature that Genesis is known for as multiple redundancy in aircraft flight systems makes for a safer aircraft.

Looking forwards from the nosecone is the radar system, this radar is also linked to the flight control system and the GPS, so should it be that the pilot is flying too low and so at risk of controlled flight into terrain, the system will first bring up an audible alert, if no action is taken the radar system will scan the surroundings and make an automatic evasive operation by pulling up the nose and applying power, as well as making a banked turn if it detects another aircraft in close proximity, thereby avoiding the terrain in question.

Undercarriage
The undercarriage of the GA11 is made up of 4 units, these being a two wheeled nose unit and central main undercarriage unit but two wing mounted 6-wheeled undercarriage units as opposed to 4-wheeled. These undercarriage elements are fully Anti-skid equipped, each one with its own anti skid control computer and disc brake assembly, allowing the GA11 to be hauled to a stop quickly and efficiently, with a reduce reverse thuster setting making the GA11 a quieter aircraft when landing as less power is needed from the 3 turbofan engines during the reverse thust stage of landing.

To cope with the tyres scrubbing away on the tarmac, the rear wheels of each wheeltruck of the main landing gear are actively steered, reducing tyrewear and damage to the tarmac when manouvring on around an airport.

wings and skin
The wings of the GA11, measuring 51.7m from tip to tip have been designed to be efficient, yet strong and light with extensive use of carbon composite materials in the skin of the wing to reduce the overall weight of the skin, with solar pannels incorporated into the upper surface of the wing to allow the aircraft to charge batteries and run auxiliary systems whilst on the tarmac during the day, allowing the main auxiliary power unit to be powered down when parked up. The extensive use of carbon fibre on the outerskin, allows the aircraft to fly 20% further on the same amount of fuel compared to if the skin were made of traditional aluminium.

Electrical system
The electrical system on board the GA11 is designed around hybrid system, utilising traditional Ni-Mh batteries over lighter lithium based technology batteries, a traditional APU mounted in the tail section of the aircraft and wing mounted solar cells, this all comes together to form an all inclusive environmentally friendly power system, allowing the engines of the GA11 and the APU to be completely shut down during the day when the aircraft is sat on the tarmac resulting in a significant saving of fuel. The PV cells provide sufficient power to allow the Air Conditioning to be run during the day, alowing passengers to board a cool aircraft, even under a baking equatorial sun as well as provinding power to the batteries to ensure the APU has sufficent power to start up in order to get the 3 main turbine engines started. In addition to this for the unlikely event of total engine failure in flight, there remains a drop down ram-air-turbine, (RAT), this is in place to provide power to the flight control systems to allow the flight crew to make an unpowered landing with full control of flight control surfaces, brakes, leading and trailing edge flaps as well as the speed brakes. ALL Genesis aircraft have the Ram Air Turbine installed, typically on the centerline underneath the fuselage.

Military tanker variant
For support of military aircraft, the GA11 can be purchased as an inflight refuelling tanker, designated KC11A "Cirrus", this variant is equipped with a boom mounted in the rear fuselage, a hose spool mounted in pods suspended under each wing with a third hose located on the centerline to the right or left depending on customer prefference of the main flying boom assembly.
