i wonder if we will meet those guys in wartime. they had to have been reformed into a proper squadron right?

Excalibur will have to be deployed to the Pacific in order for any interactions with the AVG, which operated for only a year from late 1941 to mid 1942. They fought under the banner of the Chinese Nationalist government, which controlled much of the mainland until 1949, when it was largely usurped by the Communists at the end of a continuous civil war, and was considered to be the official legitimate representation of China until 1971 when it was voted out by the UN.

That being said, they were basically well-connected (US military support) mercenaries that were paid with:

Wikipedia - Flying Tigers:
lucrative contracts with salaries ranging from $250 a month for a mechanic to $750 for a squadron commander, roughly three times what they had been making in the U.S. forces.

By the time the AVG was disbanded, nearly all of its personnel took their pay and went home to be transferred to their original units in the Army Air Force - some, like Pappy Boyington of Black Sheep fame, stayed in the Pacific fighting the Japanese while others, as UKP stated, came to be deployed in Europe. Their role as a major air asset in the South Asian theatre was replaced by the 23rd Fighter Group, which was later absorbed into the U.S. 14th Air Force.

A run in with the Chinese Nationalists would be interesting for Vegesack, as he had fought under them alongside the Soviet (whom were allies with Chiang Kai-Shek's regime simply out of a common foe, Japan) predecessor of the AVG.

And then there's the irony of having one of the most famous Allied insignias of World War II having actually been German in origin; some RAF Warhawk/Tomahawk pilots in North Africa either managed to come upon photos of or clashed in battle with shark mouthed Bf-110s'. They found the idea badass and cool, and the rest is history.

Wikipedia: Nose Art -
The American Volunteer Group decided to paint shark mouths on their P-40Bs after seeing a color photo in a newspaper of an No. 112 Squadron RAF P-40 fighter in North Africa with the shark mouth painted on it,[5] with the British iteration itself inspired by "sharkmouth' nose art without any "eyes", on the Bf 110 heavy fighters of ZG 76.

In case if any of you were wondering over the slowness of a Vegesack post on Tempsford, which has been currently bustling with that of the other three newcomers, it's that I'm on the verge of being finished yet trying to find some damn good excuse for him to take off into the air with Eriksfjord and Abrams almost right after he lands at Tempsford.

The Tiger Kingdom wrote:Wanna fill out the promotion app thingy?
also no nationalist segregation here you are going to be exposed to people of many different nations and cultures in your flights and you are going to like it and be culturally enriched by it dammit

"Cultural enrichment" - such a damn fine socialist sounding doctrine there. Perhaps it's actual intended purpose by the British is to presumably deny the increasingly belligerent US factions within 319 a potential sense of independent operation, which runs the chance of potentially jeopardizing traditional command and control within His Majesty's armed forces.

No, seriously: unlike their European counterparts whom fielded entire regiments and divisions of troops that were colonial subjects (i.e the UK's many Indian divisions, and the French Colonial Forces), the Japanese Army had actually restrained units consisting of colonial natives to companies and battalions dispersed among primarily Japanese ethnic regiments and divisions. This was to smother obvious chances of mutinies and defections, as Imperial General Headquarters actually had the sense of perspective to expect them given their style of ruling the empire.

The Tiger Kingdom wrote:I moved you there because that was the spot vacated by an inactive person and I want Red filled.
*sigh*
I'll change it for you...

Judging from the squadron listings as of now, it appears that Vegesack , who is 35 at the time of Highwire, is currently the oldest squadron member whose player is active; technically, Nightkill's Khan is, standing at 47, but I'm pretty sure he's (Khan) just there for shits and giggles.

This means that he is Page's elder by eight years; considering the fact that the latter's birthday is October 5, and that he was 25 at the time of his initiation as Captain and Operation Lancer in late September 1939 - Page would be 27 by the time of Operation Highwire in January 1941.
(35 - 27 = eight)

Excalibur NEWBIE GUIDE:
Sergeant:- This is the lowest rank that could fly aircraft in the RAF, alot of the pilots in the Battle of Britain were of this rank.

Given this account, Vegesack would now be the lowest ranking squadron member, being outranked by pretty much everyone, including army St.Sgt Smythe.

That's not an issue, as when Gibberan's character's engine failed he made a crash landing, and we all landed with him. We are currently on the ground, in a field adjacent to the hangar.

That's very understandable. I probably wouldn't like myself either. Do what you want edit it or not, it's not a big deal.

I do appreciate it, though. Thanks.

Give Tiger a chance, like some of us he leads a busy life.

Also, a new one shot.

Setting Of The Sun, Part III

RAF Wunstorf, British Sector of Germany, 27 June 1948

They had stopped over at this small airfield on their way back to the UK, 'fog in England' or something was apparently the cause and he'd detailed the NCOs to keep the various RAF Regiment Gunners pre-occupied until they were cleared to leave. He'd gone for a walk to clear his mind, noting the various transport planes present and the ground crew around them like a hive of busy ants. There had been trouble with the Soviets over Berlin, a day or earlier they'd halted all ground traffic into the German capital and he suspected that his unit was being held here just in case the matter came to blows. War with the Soviets was a prospect that nobody dared think about, regardless if WW2 had only ended a couple of years earlier. His thoughts were interrupted by somebody calling out, "Oh ruddy hell! Charlie?"

"Yeah?" Charlie responded as he turned to face what appeared to be a Wing Commander addressing him, then hastily saluted. "Oh, sorry sir!"

"You can drop the formalities, tis me Mick." The Wing Commander. "We met back in nineteen-forty when you did a brief stunt with six-oh-four squadron, also back when you still had two eyes."

"Vaguely remember." Commented Charlie. "The eyepatch, that was a flying accident."

"Sure it'll come back in due time, though I'm glad you mentioned flying."

"...You are?"

"Well you used to fly didn't you?"

"Yes....though haven't done so fer a few years."

"Not something you forgot easily and I bet you're itching to get back in the cockpit?"

"Sort of..."

"Just to let you into a little secret, the top brass is looking at running an airlift into Berlin to supply our troops there and we're gonna need every bastard with flying time under his belt."

"But I've only the one eye."

"You'll be flying transports with a co-pilot, dead easy."

"In that case, where do I sign up?"

"I'll put a transfer request in for you now, even if its only a secondment to my command."
