The year is 2016, and a war is brewing. The dictator of Iran has expressed extreme hostilities to just about every democratic power in the world and in his lust for power, has even started some violent skirmishes along his own borders to prove his military's strength, and in this time of growing tensions, a new type of company has begun booming. The private military company. Since February of 2013 when the UN placed actual laws and regulations to create a system of legalized and monitored PMCs, they have become more internationally acceptable and increasingly common on the world stage.
A proposition was been made to the United Nations by the world's leading oil and gas companies they they be allowed to hire private military contractors to put down the dictator in Iran and install a democratic regime, and in return be able to split up the oil reserves of the nation between themselves according to pre-agreed to amounts. Many small companies have also signed this proposition in hopes to be able to take advantage of Iran's massive oil supplies. After a couple of months of failed negotiations and increased border skirmishes on the part of the Iranian dictator, the UN approved the proposition with exceptional pleading from the neighbors of Iran who have thusfar endured several minor attacks on their border each. The UN justified their unusual course of action by letting the PMCs do the work rather than the UN's army by stating that they'd rather volunteers with a cause of a profession and trade go into battle than send off young men and women of its member-nations into a battle that is not their own. The oil companies involved in the proposition have begun hiring as many mercenaries as they possibly can, and are preparing an army to begin the invasion of Iran.
The players in this roleplay shall play of able men/women that have decided to join the life of a mercenary and go to Iran. By some decision or another, you have chosen to sign up with the new upstart private military company called "Phoenix", based out of New York City. Phoenix, being based out of the US (and paying taxes to the government of all their income and to have permission to have their base in the US) has access to the world's finest military technology and is already known as one of the most difficult companies to get into based on the fact that the training is so grueling and intense that most people quit before they get halfway done, and has been rumored to be more intense than the training of official elite military groups such as the Spetsnaz, the Navy Seals, etc. You have passed this training and are about to be sent to Iran, as the invasion begins January 1st 2017. The propaganda slogan being "With a new year comes a new world." emphasizing the destruction of authoritarian regimes and the rise of this new economical market in war; The PMC.
