You know, I've been wondering recently. How important is it to you guys to come up with something truly, completely original in a character concept or RP idea? Do you guys absolutely have to unveil something totally new, or can you draw on something(s), or does it depend on your mood?

I sweated blood for 3.5 hours coming up with my latest char, and before that I was struggling for 2-3 days with my original char idea until I finally trashed it in a fit of frustration.

So what are your thoughts, PL peeps?

Originality is overrated, you'll never be fully original, best to just accept that.

I know I influence the hell out of her but the shoes thing is a long standing frustration. All last summer, it became an argument. She's also had to put up with rants about the government for two weeks now. I frikken tell him that she listens, even when he thinks she's watching a movie or asleep. It annoys the fuck out of me. Kids hear crap, and it shapes their world. I think that's why I'm somewhat miffed. If she'd asked, I would have explained some things. Plus, how long was she stressing about him having to leave? Was she going to bed each night feeling like shit and in fear? It irks me when adults forget that children hear what they say.

Anything in IC I need to respond to? I'm digging around my fractal collection for a Halloween flag.

Character Powers/Special Abilities (if any): No powers. Marli is a natural linguist. She speaks several languages and picks up on new languages easily.

Character Weaknesses/Flaws: Marli is shy, but not overly so. She's not incredibly physically fit, and failed P.E. because she couldn't do pull-ups or other upper body exercises as well as the other girls.

Character Background: Marli is the adopted daughter of Morag Bones, a businessman in Bielefeld. He's seldom home and Marli, only 16, is left to her own devices while he's away.

She was born in Antenni, a French colony in the South Pacific. She was a fairly good student, except for P.E. and she has a love for language and writing. She moved to Bielefeld with her father and nothing changed. He was still too busy for her, still away for long periods of time, and still an absentee parent when she needed him most. She desires nothing more than to prove worthy of his love, and doesn't understand why his work comes first. She keeps the house tidy, always in anticipation of him returning home. She doesn't realize what he is and doesn't know that she's adopted.

Her love for literature means that books are her best friends. An avid reader, Marli is often found at the public library or browsing the books in the building's library. She loves dragons and has a small collection of stuffed toy dragons and figurines.

She's been a shut in, only leaving the building to attend school, and would have remained so if she hadn't bumped into Minerva. Minerva, in need of a babysitter on occasion, has asked the girl to help Sophia Von Klaus learn English.

Alright, so that's just a rough outline. I haven't made it so concrete that I can't add extra flaws and merits as she evolves. She hasn't any power. She's just a mortal. I haven't touched upon religious beliefs, political beliefs or other likes/dislikes because then I have nowhere to go as I flesh her out through game play. The world will define her as long as I don't lock her into another character or keep her sequestered.

I have ways to make her unique. Morag Bones might be a dragon. The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. In fact, sure. I might make an app for him. This would make her half-dragon without her realizing it. She hasn't any of his powers or abilities, and so she might just be adopted. Yes. I like that idea. I'll add it to her application. (and done.)

So many ways to tweak her. I happen to like the idea of a half-dragon girl the more I think about it. Hmmm. It might be interesting. Sure. Let's go with it!

A seemingly mundane teenager living in an extraordinary world. No relation to Bones & Co.

I changed her name to reflect something more exotic. I tweaked her bio a bit to fit in with my concept. She won't start off as powerful. Now I have room to grow as she discovers herself. I can almost see her being drawn to Gio because of what she is, in part. I don't see her as one to really explore magic. She doesn't have that interest yet. She hasn't any interest in war or combat.

I'd need to flesh the father out a bit as I go to determine what her abilities will eventually be. I'm thinking he's subterranean of a sort. This might give her some elemental manipulation, perhaps maybe. The key is, I don't want her to start out powerful, and I want any powers that happen to occur in such a way that startles her. My long term story goal for her is to finally discover what she truly is. I'll keep in mind that she might be frightened by what she thinks she's becoming, she might be angry once she learns what her father is (because he never told her) and she might be ashamed that she's not really human. We'll see.

Buchanan wasn't gay (at least there isn't enough proof to support the claim). People simply think he was because he never married and lived with a male roommate for awhile.

If anything, his disinterest in women probably stemmed from his fiancé dying shortly after calling off their engagement due to the various negative rumors being said about their engagement (he was seeing other women, only marrying her for her money, etc.). After her death, he was quoted as saying, "I feel happiness has fled from me forever."
