Prostitution in your nation.

Postby The New Dog Nation » Thu Oct 03, 2013 7:49 am

(Consider this the unofficial sequel to my "Pornography in your nation" thread)

Now, this topic, among others, can be quite controversial at times. I mean, we all know that this happens all over the world. It wouldn't be called "the oldest of professions", if it was not this popular. Of course, there can be many issues with it, and many nations have laws regarding it.

Those laws are what I would like to know today, so, fill out this questionnaire, if you want, of course.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?
If it is, is it regulated in any way?
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?
What is the government's stance on the issue?
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
Is it important to the economy in anyway?
Anything Else?

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Legally, it is a grey area, so to speak.
If it is, is it regulated in any way? Yes, insofaras that paying for sex is legal between consulting adults but not soliciting for it.
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? This is done through the Sexual Offences Act 2003
What is the government's stance on the issue? Officially, it is a legal grey area as such; but there is no campaign to legalise it.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? Prostitution is not popular in Astholm
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? No
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? No (except law enforcement when it comes to the issue of human trafficking)
Is it important to the economy in anyway? No
Anything Else? This is legal, but only as a grey area, and has been since the 1980s.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?

Yes

If it is, is it regulated in any way?

Prostitutes are required to be sterile and healthy, which is easy enough considering our medical science. Some brothels would require their girls to do whatever they can to keep their "moneymaker" tight and desirable, and their boys to keep theirs as large and excitable as possible. Businesses are taxed, as always, and the government has a right to oversee and intervene in the business. Other than that, free game.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?

N/A

What is the government's stance on the issue?

Perfectly legitimate business.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?

Perfectly legitimate business. We all have a favorite brothel.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?

The Party supports a regulated, yet open market. The prostitution industry counts.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?

No

Is it important to the economy in anyway?

It's relatively minor compared to the InfoTech, Arms Manufacturing, Media, or Robotics Development industries that guide our economy, but it's a pretty big service industry.

Anything Else?

Not really.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?

Yes.

If it is, is it regulated in any way?

All prostitutes must be registered and sterilized. Any prostitutes found to be not registered and/or fertile will be recycled.

What is the government's stance on the issue?

There are no objections to the prostitution industry as long as it's kept regulated. In fact, the Cyber-Master likes to encourage business of any kind, that includes prostitution.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?

They're mostly to busy working to hire any services, although occasionally a lonely man will desire company.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?

There are several companies that are based on prostitution and other sexual services and products, and the Cyber-Master is in favor of them.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?

There are a few groups that are against it, but they are often ignored.

Is it important to the economy in anyway?

Neosapia likes to encourage businesses to thrive and stimulate the economy, so yes.

Anything Else?

Negative.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?
Yes
If it is, is it regulated in any way?
Yes. Licensed brothels, designated pick-up spots, safe sex education for prostitutes (All prostitutes must hold a license to work)
If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?
---
What is the government's stance on the issue?
The government supports heavy regulation of prostitution, to protect women from threats such as criminals and pimps.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?
Most of the citizens like the idea, and they come to terms with it faster when it's regulated.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?
There are some political parties that support regulated prostitution.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
Most religions and some political parties and cults see this legalized prostitution as degeneracy. Most groups are either Feminist groups or religious cults.
Is it important to the economy in anyway?
10% of the money prostitutes make is transferred to the government per month. When a worker fails to pay his or her income, their license is revoked until full payment is received.
Anything Else?
It's becoming more and more socially accepted.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation? Perfectly legal

If it is, is it regulated in any way? Yes, very much so. Sex workers have their own union that has close ties to both the ministries of tourism labor and health to ensure proper standards are maintained.

What is the government's stance on the issue? Sex is a vital part of the bread and circuses that keep society rolling. So it is of national importance that the industry thrives.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? They see it as no different than going to the grocery store.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? All of the people in Purpelia. It's a cultural thing.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? We don't take kindly to that kind around here... So no.

Is it important to the economy in anyway? Yes, it is a major industry that provides ample employment as well as a massive bust to our tourist sector.

Anything Else? Foreigners should take note that we do not impose any limitation in terms of gender, race, age or species of both our customers and our registered sex workers. We also do not disclose any details of the related transactions to foreign law enforcement agencies.

Is Prostitution Legal in your Nation?
Yes. Prostitution has always been legal in the Empire since its conception three millennia ago.

If it is, is it regulated in any way?
While not stated in the legal system, there are many restrictions on how prostitution should operate within the Empire, usually enforced by cultural pressure. The most common of which is that prostitutes must operate under the organisation of brothels, which are obligated to provide medical care, training, maintenance, residence, along with other necessities for the business. Similarly, the reverence towards hygiene and bodily cleanness also mandate prostitutes and their place of operation to maintain a high level of hygiene. The fact that prostitution is seen in unusually high regard only escalated the tacit regulation and restrictions on the business in order to maintain such an image.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime?

What is the government's stance on the issue?
As one of the tenets of the national ideology of the Empire focus on the unique attributes of the Tuthinan culture being the source of the strength and legitimacy of the nation, and that such a "prostitution culture" is considered very rare in the world, traditional prostitution receives full support from the government, ranging from official endorsement to legal support, as well as protection to the business and its participants wherever applicable.

What are your citizens thoughts on the issue?
Prostitution is seen with very high regard by the general population of the Empire regardless of social class; the gentrified nature of prostitution in the Empire means many of the high society prefers to hold assemblies and feasts alongside high class prostitutes, while its tight connection with the indigenous religion of the Empire means the low society see it positively alongside the priesthood. The fact that prostitution is seen as an important cornerstone of the economy only enforced its prestigious status within the Empire.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it?
Both the Imperial government and the Imperial Cult are known for providing official endorsement and numerous forms of support to many brothels in the Empire, and the aristocracy is famed for spending many of its fortune on prostitution, being the biggest spending after investment in its own property and donation to the Imperial Cult.

Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it?
No, because of the extremely long and deep relation between prostitution and the society, it has been taken for granted by virtually the entire establishment. Since the Tuthinan Republican Uprising several decades ago, rejecting traditions such as prostitution has been seen as one of the indications of possible treason, and thus people who fiercely hold such view tend to be prosecuted or seen as a social outcast.

Is it important to the economy in anyway?
Prostitution is considered a very important part of the Tuthinan economy; not only is it one of the biggest and everlasting businesses within the Empire, but most wealth accumulated by the aristocracy usually end up flowing back to the brothels, which is considered by many economists to be vital for the long-term stability of the economy given the relative unpopularity of continuous investment into financial tools or other means to destroy or redistribute accumulated wealth.

Anything Else?

PROSTITUTION FTW

Postby The Pagan Cultists » Thu Oct 03, 2013 1:49 pm

Prostitution in my nation is one of the greatest achievements in all of Pagan history. We hire the sluttiest girls and have bought out several brothels and strip clubs. After they have done their job, they are sent to the holy temple to be sacrificed. %69 of our nation is made up of prostitutes, and that number is doing nothing but growing. %69 of our income comes from prostitution, and %69 of our population admit to paying over $1000 for one night. We have the highest rated brothel in the entire planet, and over 500 strip clubs that dot our capital. Even inside the holy temple we installed a mini-brothel. Overall, my nation would not be what it is today without prostitution.

If it is not legal, what does your nation do to the citizens that commit the crime? Minimum 2 months forced retreat per charge, cumulative. There's no legal maximum per charge, but it is extremely uncommon for the sentence to exceed a year total.
What is the government's stance on the issue? The government teaches that prostitution is an avenue for other crime, a potential inroads to abuse against women (and, to a lesser extent, men), a crime against the dignity of a person, and a potential vector for various diseases. The government is firmly against changes to the current laws against prostitution.
What are your citizens thoughts on the issue? Most citizens polled anonymously (~80%) agree that prostitution is a negative attribute for a person, but only about two-thirds actually agree that it should remain illegal.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that support it? Nobody feels comfortable sticking their neck out that way.
Are there any major groups (Religions, Businesses, Political Parties, ect) that do not support it? The Church does a pretty good job of that.
Is it important to the economy in anyway? No - by definition, criminal enterprise does not take part in the economy.
Anything Else? Nothing springs to mind.
