See the big side cargo pockets? add those and you're golden. Granted the knee pads are a litle funky. base it of these shape wise for a little more military look

Moving the kneepads below the thigh might also be worth looking into.

this is awesome. i gotta make a version of this for my army, with better materials perhaps.

what kinds of modifications would you guys advise me to make to this shovel?

Not much else to add to it, really. Maybe give it a synthetic scabbard for the blade that you can attach so you can cut electrified wire without dying to death.

Damn it Spree. I've been talking about doing an en-bloc assault rifle for how long?

Bah! I say. I've come this far, and I may as well see it all the way through.

Aqizithiuda wrote:You still need to work out has the gas system works :p

I think I may have.

I figure I'll keep the DGI, and just make it so that the as tube curves slightly downward to meet the bolt carrier, similar to how it curves slightly up on AR-15.

I did try drawing one in, but with how everything is set up, it ended up being nothing more than an extra black line.

You should probably eject the old clip before putting the new one anywhere near the magazine.

Yeah. I think I'll make the magazines "drop free" or whatever the phrase is, and add a leaver of some sort to push partially used magazines up far enough to be pulled out by hand.

Black Hand wrote:That front grip looks a little awkward

In all fairness, that's the first time I've tried drawing such a grip...

I think it came out rather well all things considered.

Estovnia wrote:How do you fire it without the trigger getting blocked by the triggerguard/foregrip

There's a slot cut into the trigger guard... until I fix it anyway.

Looks like we can't make AK-15 jokes anymore.

For when you absolutely, positively have to make your AK into the AR-15 you should have bought instead.

Arch: instead of the lever, have a button that releases the clip so that it can be ejected.

no kilts, trews or woad.

Thus not acceptable.

or mroe seriously its actually quite nice but to be honest it needs something to break the blue on the jacket. Possibly some red, yellow or white detailing/piping.

Ultimate lulz would be to include a small inverted omega symbol in white somwhere on the jacket for that final link to the "greatest of all the space marine and the marines every battle brother longs to be like"

I tried to break the blue with the silver but I guess it did not work. I am considering adding an officers sword with its scabbard. Would that do it?

I would estimate its OAL at 24-26 inches/600-650mm, putting it a full 136-86mm shorter than the AKS-74U with its stock fully extended.
I find rifles to be most comfortable when a length of about 1000-1100mm/40-44 inches. I am also taller than most people and some spaghetti noodles for arms. Trans, prem, and spree all agree that 37-40in/940-1000mm is generally comfortable, between the three of them they likely encompass 90% of soldiers height. Im not saying that its UNCOMFORTABLY short, I am merely using it as a transitional to the next point

Perhaps it's my squishy civilian side talking, but I really don't see how. Indeed, nearest I can tell, it may be easier than a conventionally fed bullpup.

The crispest magazine that was fed by clip (here forth called a charger) I have ever used was the SKS. It takes about 4-8 seconds to fully load one (experience tells me I can do it in about 6-8 with a poor charger, 5 with a very good one), which is done in the following steps from a standing firing position:
1. Last round holds open bolt
2. Shooter de-shoulders rifle
3. Loose charger is removed from pouch (note: This is an issue at times, rounds can get stuck on canvas and frequently do) with dominant hand while non-dominant hand supports rifle
4.Charger is placed in a channel in bolt of the rifle that facilitates the metal strand and rounds, so it sits into the top of the magazine follower.
5. Shooter, using dominant hand thumb, presses firmly down on top cartridge, which then forces all other rounds into magazine. Sometimes, rounds can become stuck or feed wrong, requiring partial removal of charger and manual correction of said rounds.
6. Shooter removes charger from cam and either drops it or stores it
7. Shooter pulls bolt of rifle
8. Shooter raises and shoulders rifle

Things that COULD go wrong in this process:
1. You miss the cam, and need to align it again
2. A poorly-made charger grasps rim too well, preventing efficient charging
3. Charger gets stuck on pouch as you remove, causing rounds to fall off
4. Charger gets stuck on groove, making removal of charger and charging of firearm impossible
5. Rounds do not depress into magazine fully, resulting in double feed/other similar issue
6. Increased heat in the internal environment of the gun can result in cook offs (rare)
7. Chance of operator burn
8. Operator is out of ammunition
9. Operator gets shot, fails to defend motherland, family is killed for having a less-than-glorious child

Now, lets do that with standard Kalashnikov.
1. Final round of rifle fired, bolt closes.
2. Operator removes magazine and places it in pouch, or discards
3. Operator removes loaded magazine from his pouch
4. Operator places front lip into tab, rocks locking tab into magazine release
5. Operator pulls charging handle and is clear to fire.

Things that can go wrong:
1. Operator is out of ammunition
2. Operator misses tab
3. Operator can not grab magazine/fumbles magazine
4. Operator misses charging handle
5. Operator gets shot, fails to defend motherland, family is killed for having a less-than-glorious child

Step 1) Rifle empties! Bolt locks back, also retracting magazine cover!
Step 2) Rifle is rotated ~48 degrees left (assuming right handed shooter) and muzzle is aimed slightly downward!
Step 3) New en-bloc clip is removed from vest webbing (assuming shooter had the forethought to remove protective plastic from one set of feed lips)!
Step 4) Arrows are aligned, and fresh en-bloc clip is forced into the magazine, resetting the spring/follower assembly, ejecting the empty clip, and triggering the bolt release!
Step 5) Rifle is returned to firing position!

This sounds like an over simplification of things in addition to a significantly more complex loading process than most rifles, which do not require re-shouldering and much manipulation of the rifle at all. In addition, the old enblock should be ejected before you even attempt to put in a new one.

See step 4. No automatic ejection of spent clips.

Again, thats fine, but the loading process is not. There is a reason no one does this.

Interesting discovery.

the Tavor rifle costs approximately $700 USD to purchase from IWI, with some of the larger batches selling for $500. Thailand spent between $479 and $520 USD per Tavor, totaling about 60K Tavors, making them the biggest user outside of Israel.

I am going to estimate the manufacturing cost at $375-400 USD: Slightly more than an M4 from Colt, which I put at $350-375

Well, it's a shame they're not bigger than Israel. I can't think of any firearm that was marketed to a foreign country rather than the country it was made in. I guess it's just cheaper to do that though.

Quick question, what is/was the average cost for making a good quality FN FAL?

Good question. The issue is that the FAL had no licencing or royalty costs in 1960, and only began large scale export two years prior, when record keeping was perhaps not up to snuff. I can tell you the exact figure of rifles made per year oddly enough (yes, I am this fucking weird), but I can not get you a solid estimation of what the EXACT cost is. To my estimation, a FAL would, adjusted for inflation, cost about $550-$620 USD by todays standards, or at the time about $65-75 USD.

fun fact: In the same era, a M1895 Nagant costed $48 USD ($5USD at the time), Enfeild No. 1 Mk. IIIs $98 ($11 USD) and a M1941 Johnson $510 (60 USD)
