Nations that have signed up to World Cup 66 should post their roster / squad list / available players here.
What to put:
If you're entering World Cup 66 then your nation will be playing a minimum of ten football matches over the coming weeks. Goals will be scored, defenders red-carded, star strikers confined to the physio's table by an errant outstretched leg or flying elbow, but exactly who are these people? That star striker.. does he have a name? Which club does he play for? Is he tall? Is he fast? Is he even a 'he'? Is 'he' even human? Does your team comprise of semi-sentient robot-Aardvark clones hell bent on violence? Or are you more of an orthodox humanoid 4-4-2?
This thread is where you tell us.
A standard, real-life international squad comprises of anywhere between 18 and 30 players, eleven of which will start a given game. Standard squads for the actual World Cup tournament itself are, in real life, limited to 23 players, but here on NS the general consensus is each user decides how large or small their squad is.
If the whole 'realistic' thing isn't for you, that's fine. As long as you make an effort to make your team fit with a rough narrative (asserting that your nation is comprised of eleven immortal goddesses who cannot be beaten won't be too believable if you're a lower-ranked nation, and telling us your players are all aged twelve yet are somehow ranked in the world's top ten is just as unbelievable) and you've put a bit of effort in, you'll have done things properly.
Do you have to name each and every player and coach? Down to the reserve full-back and kit-man's assistant? No. If you just want to concentrate your RPing efforts on a select two or three personnel, that's fine. List them here and tell us a little about them so that your opponent can roleplay your game without having to wildly guess at what kind of person/player your star striker is. We'd suggest at least 'naming' eleven or so players, just so your opponent has a name to throw in their rather than 'their goalie' or 'the other team's striker', but those of you who prefer to weave stories based on just a couple of characters won't be penalised for glossing over the majority of your playing staff. Again: Put a bit of effort in, give your roster post a bit of tender loving care and take into account what your opponent needs from a read of your roster, and you'll have done things properly.
What else to put in? Well your nation needs a home stadium, right? Maybe its a monolithic enormo-dome with space for seventy-thousand partizan fans and a an IMAX video-replay screen in every corner, or maybe your national team plays on a run-down college field in front of three blokes and a dog and utterly beneath the radar of an indifferent public. Maybe your nation has banned the sport entirely and you need to play accross a border? Either way, tell us a bit about the 'stadium', the city or wasteland that surrounds it, and your nation in general.
The Technical Stuff
Style Modifiers are the one and only way you can exert control over the scores your team will receive that doesn't involve any work on your part. While RPing well and/or often will raise the chances that scores will go in your favour, your style modifier will tell the world what kind of team it is you're putting out. Maybe you're ultra-cautious, defensive and stubborn, or maybe you play a devil-may-care brand of kamikaze attacking football? Or maybe, like most of us, you're somewhere in between?
Style modifiers range from -5 to 5, with -5 being ultra-defensive and 5 being ultra-attacking. 0 is average. If the scorinator decides your team is going to draw its game, a +5 modifier raise the chances that your match will finish 4-4, whereas a -5 modifier makes it more likely the match will be 0-0.
If you could put your style modifier in bold writing at the top or bottom of your roster post, that would be really helpful to us!
RP Permissions are a way to ensure your opponent doesn't take liberties with your team or nation in a way that might upset or offend you, and are entirely at your discretion. If you'd rather your opponent made absolutely no assumptions about you and your part in the game you've just played, then answer 'no' to most of the following questions. If you really don't mind and welcome others playing around with your nation, answer 'yes'. Simply copy and paste the following into your roster post, leaving either an 'N' or 'Y' after every question.
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N
Posting a roster will earn your team a small RP bonus, as well as making it a lot easier for you and your groupmates to RP your matches.
