My opinion is that it isn't acceptable.
Now lets see if we can reach a consensus on this issue faster that the Mods can.
Pronouns in the case of cisgendered (ie. normal, not transgendered) people are trivial.
MtF (Male to Female) transgendered people should be called 'she'. (she/her/hers)
FtM (Female to Male) transgendered people should be called 'he' (he/him/his)
[tumblr]-gendered people might request the usage of exotic gender-neutral pronouns. It's polite to honor their request, however, for people with ambiguous or no gender identification, singular they (they/them/their) can be used.
It (it/it/its) should be used for inanimate objects ONLY.
