In any case, I'd like Istanbul, because it would be a first for the Arab world. Then again, not sure how well that would go. Not even sure how well the ones in Brazil will go.

Tokyo already held it before, but they can afford it and they seem pretty stable.

Turkey isn't in the Arab world...

The modern Turks are largely the descendants of Turkic migrants who originated in western China which spoke Altaic languages (that is, stuff like Mongolian/Japanese/Manchu/etc), as well as the indigenous peoples of the area who were gradually assimilated, who before then, I'm assuming, probably spoke Greek.

That depends on where one's interest lies. Personally I'm not really interested in historical stuff. Tokyo is much better than Istanbul in terms of looking, transportation, traffic etc.

I bet on Japan. Spain has too big financial problems, Turkey is still too undeveloped. Japanese are very proud, hardworking and organised, I'm sure they won't let their Olympics become a disaster.

Turks and the Japanese are relatives. I don't know about the Japanese but Japan and the Japanese people are held in high esteem amongst Turks. A poll indicates that Japan is the most-favorable country in Turkey (then comes Germany and South Korea)

I have. As a kid. Not to anything really cool like Istanbul or Izmir or Ankara, but rather to the southern, touristy coastline, around Antalya.
