A request; new variant of 'New' TG tag

Postby South Pacific Belschaft » Sat Aug 17, 2013 10:07 pm

Minor request;

Would it be at all possible to add new TG tags for 'New-TSP'/'New-TWP'/etc? At present they are useless for GCR's own welcoming purposes, and this would allow us to switch from a mix of manual welcoming and scripts. It would also allow a bit more finesse in terms of UCR's recruitment, by allowing them to alter their messages depending on the region in question.

An alternative would be to allow us to modify the parameters so 'tag:new100+region:the South Pacific' would serve the same purpose whereas 'tag:new100,region:the South Pacific' currently sends TG's to a hundred new and all nations in TSP.

This would be extremely useful. Can we have it, pretty please?

*bumps*

Is there any chance an admin could tell us if this is possible?

Agreed on the amount of usefulness this tweak would provide.

Can you define more exactly what the proposed tag would mean? I can imagine a nation founded in The Pacific would get the new-TP tag (and the New tag, ofcourse). Then suppose it moves to The North pacific. What happens to the tags?

It would receive it anyway since it was founded in The Pacific, I'd imagine.

That would seem to be logical. There may be a way to make the tag 'expire' if the nation moved to a new region but that would probably be far more hassle to code than it would be worth.

I see two ways to go here: a "welcome" tag that triggers whenever a nation moves into your region, and a "founded-in-region" tag relevant only to Feeders & Sinkers that triggers when nations are (re)founded there.

I think "welcome" is more useful, since it can be used by more than 8 regions, but you would only want to TG nations that are genuinely fresh to the region. Perhaps it would only trigger if the new nation has 0 Influence in that region. Would this work for Feeders too?

Well a new nation has 0 influence in the feeder when it is founded, so I imagine it would.

I think that would be perfect. That 'welcome' tag would get newly founded nations and newly arrived ones, but not people who had been in the region before recently, which is what we're looking for.

I would think a welcome tag would be cool. Although it would open up the possibility for someone to burn through stamps (if someone keeps moving away and back before they have any influence or creates a bunch of nations and moves them in)

To the best of my knowledge (and note, I'm a Forum mod, so my Game advice is as good as any normal player's here), both of those can be considered Regional Happenings spamming.

Implemented! :)

Founders and WA Delegates with executive power can now find a new option at the bottom of their Region Control page, which allows them to compose a Welcome Telegram.

Welcome Telegrams are automatically sent to a nation that enters the region, providing it has no Regional Influence there, and hasn't received that telegram before.

Only Founders & WA Delegates may compose Welcome Telegrams for their region, and they stop working if the author loses power (e.g. loses Delegate status or ceases to exist).

Founders & Delegates can cancel an existing Welcome Telegram at any time.

Only 1 Welcome Telegram can be active for a region.

Welcome Telegrams are free (i.e. don't require telegram stamps) and there is no limit on the number of recipients.

Please let me know of any bugs or questions!

Awesome, and thank you very much :)

I look forward to making use of it in TSP soon. Right now you may be feeling some kind of divine power [violet] as every single region sings your praises.

Thank you [violet], this is a wonderful addtion. And thank you South Pacific Belschaft for bringing up the idea.

I had read this thread before it was implimented, and did a double take when I saw the addition to regional controls.

Dang all you copy-cats. Capitalist Paradise has had welcome telegrams since forever. In fact, if you visit and come back later, you even get a different shorter message, welcoming you back!

Welp, now the party is ruined. Time to go decommission it I guess.

I forgot which region it was, but I received a "please come back" message when I left said region

I've seen a few other regions with welcome TGs too. In fact I'm a bit surprised that more script-savy regions didn't have them

I've had Welcome Telegrams since I founded Spiritus, as have many others with similar situations. Don't be calling us bandwagonners :P
This just makes it much more convenient, and means I can use my script for something else.

This, to a certain degree. TSP has had such scripts at several point but this new system is; 1. Much better 2. Available for all regions 3. Not dependent on our own code-monkeys being around to keep it working

Erm, so this new feature has had unintended consquences. Namely it is sent to all new nations, and effectively beats all recruitment TG's. The feeders are all now abusing the Welcome TG to act like recruitment tg's, so they get a free, instant (non-delayed) one and it has completely destroyed recruitment rates.

I'm thinking welcome tg's should not be sent to newly created or refounded nations.
