WorldVision Song Contest 28 - DISCUSSION|OOC Thread

Postby WorldVision Committee » Mon Aug 19, 2013 9:09 am

CONTEST THREAD

Since WorldVision 27 is over, here's the signups for the 28th WorldVision Song Contest! Post your national final here. Or, if you don't want to actually post a national final, you can just tell us the title of the song, and the name of the artist performing it and it will be treated as an internal selection.
The contest itself is the same as Eurovision Song Contest. First, all the participating countries post the performance (with lyrics) of their entry, and then, once all the entries have been performed, every nation decides their votes, with the same 1 to 12 points format as used in Eurovision. Everything's the same except that we don't have those silly rules about how many of them can be on the stage, etc.
All songs in the contest must be original. No real-life songs or artists may be entered into the contest, but parodies of RL song are of course allowed. Parody doesn't mean "real life song with some other words" but a song with TOTALLY different lyrics on the melody of a RL song. Also translations of original lyrics are NOT allowed.

Each user may enter, in addition to their main nation, one puppet nation. Master nations must confirm their puppet. Entering more than one puppet may result in sanctions or disqualification. Voting is compulsory for all participants, and failing to do so will result in disqualification from the next contest.

SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED!

"Optima symphonia"

Information

Yerevan. The city of history, culture, and of music. The arts had long had their roots here, and since the 1540s, during the Renaissance, this city is a stronghold for art. It suffered through tyrannical monarchy, based there, as the Empire of Arazei before becoming free in 1860 when a local hero, Huswa Varanken deposed the Emperor and set out to reunify Luziyca as "Greater Luziyca." In 1934, communism took hold and strangled the city until 1995, when our lads liberated it. Now, tourism has helped the city recover, and it plans to host a magnificent WorldVision. There is a reason why "Optima symphonia" is the motto: Yerevan has one of the best music scenes in the country, despite being deterred by communism. You can find classical music, blues, jazz, pop, rock music, anywhere you look. But there is another reason: "Optima symphonia" is "the best music" in Latin, and also reflects the desire to see the best songs in the contest.

Yerevan boasts around eleven million people, of which many want WorldVision 28 to come to Yerevan. Thus, the constituent Republic of Arazei and the municipality of Yerevan put forward this bid. Many people in Yerevan are preparing themselves, some offering services to those who need it, like tourists or contestants. Located in Luziyca's southwest, we guarantee an experience that you will never forget, or if you are really unlucky, that you will never remember!

Buckle your seat belts, turn off your electronic devices, we're about to land in Yerevan!

Image
This is the Yerevan International Airport. This airport was built in 1938, as part of the First Five Year Plan when it was governed by the communists. Thus, Terminal 1 was the original one. Since Terminal 2 opened in 2002, Terminal 1 is only used for domestic flights and cargo flights, whilst Terminal 2 will be used for international flights, and thus, all flights that are coming in for WorldVision. All those entering for WorldVision shall be given the ambassadorial treatment; they shall be given diplomatic immunity for two weeks prior to the concert, and two weeks after. The Yerevan International Airport is determined to provide the best service, and thus, to ease inconvenience, they have been given permission by the Department of Homeland Security to waive their normal security procedures for WV entrants. From the airport, you have multiple ways of getting there, from the iconic buses which look like the past on the outside, kept by popular demand but modified to comply with modern standards, to the lovely blue taxis, or an automobile. The buses within Yerevan (for the most part) boast air conditioning, accessible to those with disabilities or without, as well as free Wi-fi, so you can do whatever the hell you like, from checking up on Facebook to reading some of the past WorldVision glories and many crushed dreams, as well as the present to prepare yourself mentally, and many more! But if you are REALLY lucky, you can experience the authentic communist-era buses with no air condition and no wi-fi, and accessibility leaves much to be desired! Note the fares are 50 senti ($1) for children between ages 5 and 13, 1 lira ($2) in high school and those aged 65 or older (aka senior citizens), 1 lira and 25 senti ($2.50) for adults. WorldVision performers will be entitled to the high school price of one lira.

Want to party in style and dance and/or drink your cares away? The Kruegermann Nightclub might just be the place for you! With a magnificent dance floor, designed in modernistic style, it has ten Jacuzzis, the longest bar in Luziyca (150m), eight public washrooms, a casino, and next to it, a branch of Alko: the only store where you can buy tobacco products anywhere in Luziyca, and alcoholic beverages to take home. It may not look like a luxurious nightclub on the outside, for it was a warehouse,, but open the doors and it is party time! It has plenty of bouncers, and the best part is that it is located right next to a bus stop, as well as spacious parking, so you can get from Yerevan Airport to Kruegermann, or to the hotel that you plan to stay. For the week before and after the contest, it will serve as the Worldclub, which means accredited WorldVision personnel will only be allowed to entry, during the hours of 7 pm, until 9 am (the nightclub normally closes at 1 am, and opens at 9 am) meaning you can party all night if you want to do so! You may even fall in love with the singers and performers at the WorldClub. If however, you are not interested in the whole nightclub scene, we got other methods of having fun! We got museums commemorating Yerevan's long and storied history, from the monarchy of the former Empire of Arazei, to natural history, to the Museum of Stalinist Oppression, as well as monuments to Yerevan's great heroes, like Huswa Varanken, some Emperors, explorers, Crusaders who lost their lives in Iglesiantis from 1084 to 1294, and many more. There are many movie theaters, from the old art-deco theaters built in the 1920s, to the modern multiplex that enables you to watch movies! In 3D too. We also have plenty of art galleries and libraries, for art-lovers and bibliophiles, respectively.

Yerevan also has the Yerevan Zoological Gardens, the second largest zoo in the country, behind the Bethlehem Zoo. The Zoological Gardens has many species of animal life from yaks, to sheep, to foxes, to bald eagles, as well as giraffes, hippos, and even a few penguins, and that is just SOME of the animals that the Gardens offer. We have a lot of green-space, most of them parks. From the restored English-garden style parks, to a few amusement parks set up by the communist regimes, and pocket parks, we got them all, perfect for those who love nature, or to have fun within the city of Yerevan. We even have a beautiful beach, perfect to sunbathe, swim and just relax in. Be aware that in July and August, and hell, even September, the temperature rises to around 35 degrees (95 for those who use Imperial), because it is extremely sunny (yes, the lowest record temperature is -15 C in January 2001), so bring your sunscreen, or you may end up with a sunburn to brag about when you get back from WorldVision.

Image
After you had fun, or had jet lag, you may be exhausted. Where could you stay, how much do you have to pay to stay, et cetera. We all get that. The five-star Selladore Resort (seen on your left) is a recommended destination for contestants, located conveniently close to a shuttle stop from the Yerevan International Airport from this hotel, and it also is right next to the Yerevan Beach. The resort is also four kilometers away from the venue. Built in the 1960s under communism, and operated until 1997 as the Hotel of the Proletariat, it had improved after 1997, to become a luxurious resort. The best part? We've got wi-fi (no need to pay for that), minibars, luxurious beds that adjust to your body (making your sleep a bit like heaven), facilities to make your own beverage, room service, and more. There are fifteen restaurants in the Selladore Resort, six casinos, three nightclubs, ten hair salons, and twenty gift shops. As a matter of fact, the Selladore Resort provides the best service amongst every resort or hotel in Yerevan. However, if you don't have the money, you got cheaper options with similar service (unless if you go in the worst part of town to stay), but the Selladore Resort is really the best place to stay for this edition of the WorldVision Song Contest, because of these amenities.

We don't have all day to spend in Yerevan, we need to be there by.... what? Six? Not before I find out the important stuff.

Image
This is the venue which will host the Worldvision 28 Contest. This is the Huswa Varanken Stadium, built in 1963, known until 1996 as "Stadium of the Working Men and Women". It has room for 38,065 people, for football matches (both soccer, as the Arazei call football, and Arazei football, known as Canadian football), but for concerts, it will have 50,000 people if it uses an end-stage set up, or 55,000 if we use the center-stage set up. We will use the former arrangement, hence the 50,000 seats for WorldVision. The roof is retractable and after the opening ceremony is completed, but before the actual contest begins, the roof shall be retracted back to its position. It has air conditioning, concession on the concourse to eat or get some wonderful knick-knacks to be sold to the public. While it does have Wi-Fi, cell-phones are banned, so don't get any ideas to sneak one in!

The stage of the contest is designed to be completely open. Freestanding at the end of the stadium, facing eastwards. Designed to incorporate LED screens at the back (and LED lights) and making it scream 1940s (the stage frames), the stage will be one of the more modern ones. It will contain plenty of things to make it entirely environmentally friendly, as well as making it suitable for any band whatsoever. The stage will also contain an "upper stage," which is a meter off the ground which is fairly large. An orchestra pit is provided, for anyone who uses to use an orchestra, with the Luziycan Naval Band (think the US Military Band) to the right hand side of the stage from the viewers. Based off the Oscar's stage design, it also will charm those viewing it. The lights on the semi-circle also can be used to display the country's entry and the name, and their votes as well. The graphics on the stage (plus the graphics for WV in general) will be state of the art, and will set a major innovation in design, to make it one of the best designs that WorldVision ever has.

Image
We have decided that this edition, in honor of Kalosia, and also to reduce stress by competing nations (in sending them to me), we will be making the postcards ourselves. The heart will contain the nation's flag, followed to the right by the band and the entry. Your national anthem will also be played for a minute before the performance while it is shown (regardless of length).

Image
Waiting to perform or have already performed? This is the Greenroom, located in a room that overlooks the field but only accessible by a tunnel. It has been refurbished to serve as the greenroom for WorldVision 28. It has air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a bar, a vending machine, some computers, a 107 cm flat screen high definition television, a karaoke bar, and also, a special section for non-human sapient species that cannot fit in a shoebox (anyone the size of a shoebox or not can enter the main Greenroom, alongside other humans). You can relax, be interviewed, have a drink, hell, do whatever the hell you want, as long as the window is not broken! Accessible by tunnel, it can take one minute to reach the stage, and back, making it extremely convenient to watch the other entrants for this edition of WorldVision perform their songs. Just relax, enjoy, and watch the contest, knowing that you will soon perform or smaller. Even if you are not competing in WorldVision, and just merely watching, whether it be on your home and television sets, it shall be the best contest that you will ever see.

Summary of the Opening Act

The Opening Act in this case is a misnomer, since it really should be an Opening Ceremony for WorldVision 28.

WorldVision 28 shall begin at 6:00 pm Western Time (UTC -8, 7:00 pm Central Time or Western Daylight Saving Time, UTC -7, 8:00 pm Eastern Time or Central Daylight Saving Time), with a 30 minute run-through of major events in Luziycan History from the birth of Jesus Christ, who was born in Bethlehem, Luziyca (not Israel as many claim), through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Christian Republic, the Division of Luziyca, and Reunification and the Present Day.

At 6:30 pm WST (7:30 pm WDST, 8:30 pm CDST or EST), the WorldVision Flame shall be carried in. The WorldVision Flame would be lit in Merano, Zwangzug (pending permission, I may have it lit in Ngiao), and from there, it will be transmitted to Luziycan Ataahua two months prior, and transmitted as a satellite signal (Montreal 1976 style) to Sodramark, then after a day in Fryststad, get transmitted again to Suserov for a marathon to Voski. After a few days in Aghavniner, it gets sent to Huangchin for a day, before it gets transmitted back to Sakhalin, to run from Okha to Vriesgrad, and then after two weeks get transmitted to St. Sophia of the Sea where it will spend two days, before being transmitted to Asenath, for a marathon from Epping to Adonijah, before being transmitted to Bethlehem for a torch relay from the traditional running, to horseback, and bicycle. The two torch-bearers will be from Yerevan, and the flame shall come in a way that makes the two appear like they are "flying". Once they get the flame into the WorldVision Cauldron, they will appear to fall onto the stage at 6:40 pm (7:40 pm, 8:40 pm).

At that point, a reprise of the winner of WV28 shall be heard, and then 6:45 pm (7:45 pm, 8:45 pm), the Parade of Nations shall commence, with Swilatia entering (if not participating, just a flagbearer and a person carrying the sign of Swilatia, otherwise, a flagbearer, the person carrying the sign and the performers) first, then all the participating nations in alphabetical order, and Luziyca entering last. At 7:15 pm (8:15 pm, 9:15 pm), the President of the Yerevan WV Committee (YWVC) will make a speech, followed by the President of Luziyca declaring the WorldVision open. With that, the flag of WorldVision (unofficial, of course) containing the heart in the middle of the bid will be raised. After that, Timov Azayak and a presenter will swear the Entrant's Oath on behalf of all WV nations. Before it officially begins, two thousand thirteen doves will be released, the doves symbolizing peace. At 7:26 pm, the roof will be retracted so to cover the stage and audience. Then at 7:30 pm (8:30 pm, 9:30 pm), the contest officially begins.

Interval Act

After all the entries are performed (ideally at 9:00 pm WST, 10:00 pm WDST, 11:00 pm CDST/EST), the Interval Act begins with a ten minute recap of all the entries, before The Scenes of Life, which will last 20 minutes. Then, ideally at 9:30 pm, voting will end, and then after that, they shall show "Evolution of Music," the evolution of Luziycan music from classical music in 15 minutes, to the modern music you listen to today. Then at 9:45 pm (10:45 pm, 11:45 pm), the votes will be tallied.

POLISH LANGUAGE COMES BACK TO THE WORLDVISION

Image

The Atlammes is very happy because of its result in the WorldVision 27 - "Oceanic" was 10th with 75 points. ARTV (Atlammish Radio and Television) has already confirmed its participation in the next edition of the contest. "We are proud of our music industry and we want to show it to the world" - Anna Gabon, the ARTV spokesperson says - "The Atlammish people discovers entertainment in watching this global event and they would like to be its part by voting. We can't take this fun off them."

The Atlammish Television organised the national selection called "The Atlammes for World". The broadcaster had received many application from the Atlammes and not only. The internal jury had chosen 10 finalists that performed live. There is an official list (in order of appearance):
01. Aga Group "Idź"
02. Cinnamen "Zfaad Ryga Zokel"
03. Nadela Krosnovic "Tya Vul Iou"
04. Orest "Outta Love"
05. Hypnotizing "Lose My Happiness"
06. The Underground Army "Soldier"
07. HoHoGirls "Vega"
08. Ijah Mussa "Spowiadam się co noc"
09. Jana Lebanovicz "Indygo"
10. Horacy Car "Nicht Schlafen"

The winner turned out to be Jana Lebanovicz - young Atlammish artist from Deblinsky whose parents come from Poland. She will represent the Atlammes with the song "Indygo". The whole lyrics are in Polish language that is the second national language of the country (Atlammish is the first one). It was written by Adriana Zuzan - famous Atlammish composer and lyricist - and Jana.

Is it a good choice? I hope the Atlammes has chosen right representant and will place high in the Worldvision 28.

"CZARNE KONIE" FROM BIAŁOGÓRZE AND CZARNORZECZE

Image

Białogórze and Czarnorzecze has decided to continue its adventure with the WorldVision Song Contest. After fantastic 4th place for Anastazja Chrzanowska, BGCRTV confirms its participation and chooses internally again.

The choice is revealed now. The second representant of this Polish-speaking nation is Gosia Modra-Jezierska - a talented female singer that has won the second edition of "Głos Białogórza i Czarnorzecza". This time the artist comes from Czarnorzeczan part of the coutry that is richer in culture. Gosia will perform the beautiful song "Czarne Konie" (Black Horses) that is based on regional music.

We wish her good luck and cross our fingers for her!

NTR Confirms Participation In WorldVision 28. For Real This Time. Honest.

NTR, Nekoni's chief broadcaster has confirmed their interest in entering WV28, after 25's and 27's no-show. Their song shall be chosen in-house again, and this time an actual entry is promised. This time NTR will actually try to pick an act that won't be all killed in a mysterious shoe-related accident.

After a short hiatus, and a surprising separation from Lycanor and Merlantis, Vampirum will once again participate. Song info coming soon along with a possible host bid.

A host bid is considered, but for now I'll suffice by saying that we sign up with Fredikâ Lômi (our first solo act), singing ''Tur âsam êt hêxal'' (Through Ice and Fire)
A Lons puppet. Mainly used for puppety stuffs.

San Michel Island

BGBC has internally selected 2 artists; indie-folk singer Matthew Boyne and pop artist Willow, now together under the name San Michel Island. With a piece named "The Shop", it's a love song with a rousing feel and motivational vibe.
