[PASSED] Commend NewTexas

Postby Emad » Sun Jul 21, 2013 12:02 pm

Below is the draft of a resolution I eventually wish to submit in the Security Council. Just comment on your suggestions, positive or negative.
Note: This resolution has[u] been submitted!

The Security Council;

[u]Applauding
the objective of this council to recognize outstanding contribution by individual nations and regions to the international community;

Determined to ensure that NewTexas is recognized among those the council has seen fit to befit this honor before now;

Briefly noting this council has already seen fit to recognize the region of Texas, which achieved the great feats noted by this council as a direct result of the work undertaken by it's founder NewTexas, who essentially forged a community which has lasted almost ten years with Texas sitting at its helm;

Cognizant that Texas, was one of the earliest defender nations to emerge in the first days of raiding, and in partnership with The Bruce one of the first known defender treaty organizations was formed as a result, which successfully defended against the early raiding group known as "The Farkers" and has continued as a diplomatic treaty ever since now known as the Triumvirate and including The Heartland;

Noting that in the early years, Texas was heavily active on the field of furthering international relations, responsible for having hosted "The Texas Rodeo" and the "Texas Golf League" as but two examples of events arranged, organized and hosted by the Founder Delegate all for the purposes of promoting interaction and joviality within the international community it had begun to develop relations with;

Aware that the region of Texas has been appluaded for its creation of the NSSuite which includes the NSDossier, a tool for collating the statistics of the NationStates world on the behalf of- member nations, but considering it an affront not to recognize now the participation of NewTexas in it's development purely because it has been recognized on a regional scale;

Believing that the level of commitment NewTexas provides to the region it governs in respect of both promoting participation in the international community, actively and diligently representing the region of Texas within the World Assembly body, the commitment it provides to its own regional government itself, and the consistency it has provided in these respects for going on ten years, is indeed worthy of being noted as exceptional;

Further believing that for this esteemed Council to continue to overlook the nation of NewTexas as a deserving candidate would only serve to diminish the good work done until now;

Hereby,
Commends NewTexas

You should fix the rules violations before even thinking of submitting this.

ACKNOWLEDGING the fact that NewTexas has been residing in one of NationStates' oldest regions shortly after the creation of the game, which only few nations have done;

Illegal under Rule 4 as you are referring to NS as a game, and proposals have to be written as in-character.

NOTING that NewTexas is the Regional WA Delegate of Texas and has been for more than 3800 consecutive days; making him one of the longest serving and most influential Delegates in NationStates;

Again, illegal under Rule 4, you cannot use pronouns such as 'him/her/his/her' to refer to a nation.

APPLAUDING the nations' contribution of creating NSDossier, a tool for collecting demographic statistics through gigabites of data and acting as a indispensable resource for players wanting to find obscure data;

Again. Illegal under Rule 4 as you are referring to players of the game itself.

FURTHER NOTING that NewTexas himself has created an exceptional off-site forum for Texas, holding more than 1,000 members and boasting a wide range of topics for its members to benefit from;

You may want to just remove this clause completely, as it most likely breaks Rule 4 since you are referring to a forum in a plainly electronic form. Also the term 'himself' is illegal under Rule 4, as you're referring to the player and not the nation, as I mentioned in regards to the second clause.

You may want to read over some of the stickied threads in order to assist in fixing the rule violations, and while I could be wrong, this proposal is, at least from my eyes, illegal.

Wow. I didn't realize there were so many mistakes. By the way, it's my first proposal, so there ought to be some mistakes. Anyways, I've edited it, so just check the edited copy for any other mistakes.

Regarding the forum clause, mentioning a forum in and itself isn't illegal but if you are using terms like 'topics', 'off-site forum' - then it becomes to be seen in an electronic form, which makes the mention illegal.

Anyway, I do not see any illegalities, now. Though one of the other Security Council regulars may see something I may have missed and may be able to offer more critique. Make sure not to rush your proposal, and take your time in perfecting it in order to prepare it best for any future potential submission.

Thanks for the advice. I just hope this thing goes through.

If it does, when should I submit it as a proposal?

NewTexas has definitely done way more historical great stuff than is listed in this resolution.

I'll have to talk to a few people and get back.

It's okay. I think it's good enough. I have a puppet nation in Texas and I already went over everything with its nations and NewTexas himself.

It is of our Delegation's great concern that you NOT rush this proposal. As I have read through this thread please allow sufficient time for others such as Mahaj to get back and give some input.

We support your work but we hope that you show some restraint and not submit your proposal too hastily.

Does the TDF ever actually still...defend? Never heard of it actually doing any such thing in recent years.
Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

Yes, it does. The TDF works hard to defend mainly Texas itself as well contributing to the protection of other regions. The creator and it's nations are still very active to this day.

If you have any questions about anything concerning Texas, just telegram NewTexas himself. After all, he is the founder.

Yes, they have at least regularly helped TITO on several occasions recently.

You could add me helps roleplayers too! As a personal example, he allows me to use the RP stats of his nation to help with my roleplaying. It's a big help for a newer NS roleplayer such as me since my nation's stats is augmented by his( for instance, this allows me to get into battles where other roleplayers are throwing millions of soldiers into a war). I think he is a selfless person even without mentioning what I just said though, and he definitely deserves a commendation!

Yes, they have at least regularly helped TITO on several occasions recently.

Okay. I stand corrected.

@Emad: If all you do is defend your home region, you're not 'defenders' (this is a general statement, rather than directed at the TDF specifically) and indeed, you're not really an army in true NS GP sense.

We defend our region AND contribute to the defense of other regions too. As the quote says: "Yes, they have at least regularly helped TITO on several occasions". That, my friend, is referring to the Defense Forces of the 10000 Islands, an ally of Texas. That is solid and valid proof that we do take our time to defend regions, as said in the commendation.

I went through this proposal in other off-site forums, with NewTexas himself giving me legal advice on how to shape this proposal.

Yes, NewTexas definitely deserved a commendation, so that's what I did.

Sorry, but I don't really understand your first sentence. Can you please verify that for me?
