vaccine policy of your nation

Postby New Vudnia » Fri Jun 21, 2013 7:47 pm

Do you require all able citizens to receive vaccinations?

In Vudnia, all citizens must be immunized unless they have a health problem (and a doctor's note). The Exceptionalists banned vaccines, and as a result, millions of people died of easily preventable diseases. Some years before, a former Prostitute claimed some vaccines had caused her son to develop fetal alcohol syndrome, but when she was proven wrong, she was promptly forgotten about.

It's an option, not a requirement. Although that's stated, we highly recommend it if one needs it - especially the Queen since she has a passion for anything medically related.

Thuraski citizens are immunized against several diseases at birth (diphtheria, tetanus, polio, &c), with the requisite booster injections being mandatory until age 16. Afterwards, immunization is optional.

Vaccines are compulsory for anyone planning to use the taxpayer funded Federal Health Service.

If you don't want to be vaccinated, that's fine, but you'll have to start paying your own medical costs.

Health insurance companies also rarely insure people who refuse vaccinations.

Vaccines are compulsory. Period. It is free and provided for by the government. One may choose to opt out of it, but would receive an insanely huge medical bill should they contact any disease which would normally have been prevented by the vaccine. Medical care is normally free.

Legally compulsory for all Paparian citizens and their pets (if any).
Those who refuse are forced to be vaccinated and the State will not hesitate to use the military for this purpose (see spoiler for pic).

All students MUST receive vaccines to go to public school, regardless if the parents object on religious and personal grounds. The only students exempt are those with a doctor's note (such as those with AIDS), and any doctors giving out notes for students without serious health issues are prosecuted for child endangerment.

Required vaccines are: TDAP, MMR, Chickenpox, Flu (every year), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningococcus, Polio

Adults do not have to receive vaccines unless they attend public universities or if they are teachers or work around children EDIT: or in hospitals.

Certain vaccinations are required for children, provided those vaccines are properly tested. For adults though, no. The Lojbo government is more than happy to allow willfully ignorant adults to put themselves in harm's way.

Our medical nanobots are able to combat viruses with extreme effectiveness while allowing the body to build its own immunity. The nanobots are also able to assemble dead viruses for the body to adapt to. Our labs are constantly making new virus strains to learn how to counter them. When we develop a new strain, we send out a signal through the NeuroNet that tells the nanobots to construct dead cells of the particular strain and let the body identify it as a threat. Of course, the nanodes in the body can only produce dead viruses. Either way, this is effectively a wireless vaccination network among our citizens.

Pan immunity nanobots are the norm and available for free at any hospital.

You can of course refuse to have them but the only treatment we will offer to people with preventable diseases is to have the nanobots installed.

TPD Vaccinations are given at age three, (Typhus, Diptheria, Polio), and other vaccines and immunisation jabs are followed six months later (Tetanus, Typhoid, Tuberculosis, Meningitis).

Military forces are given vaccines before going into combat, usually including vaccines and immuno-boosters against Malaria, Schistosomiasis, trypanosomiasis, chagas disease, leishmaniasis, Myasis, etc.

Postby Makaar » Sat Jun 22, 2013 6:06 pm

All children in Makaar must be vaccinated, with vaccines provided free by the National Health Service. Some vaccines are mandatory for all children, and parents who fail to present their child for vaccination when required to do so commit a criminal offence under the Education Act, Section 155. Some vaccines are mandatory only for children travelling to areas of the world where a particular disease is prevalent. Should a person reach adulthood without having received a mandatory vaccination, they are no longer required to have the vaccination (though their parents or guardians still commit the offence); however, all vaccines which are mandatory for children are given for free to adults as well.

Section 155
  1. The Secretary of State for the Department of Health may make an order under this section which requires all children to receive a particular course of vaccination. The order will specify:
    1. The age of children who are to receive the vaccination,
    2. The manner in which the vaccine is to be delivered, and
    3. Any circumstances under which a child will not be required to receive a particular vaccination.
Any such orders will be attached to Schedule IV of this Act.
  2. A General Practitioner may make an order under this section exempting a particular child from the requirement to receive any vaccine if it appears to him that the vaccination is likely to do harm to the child which is not offset by the benefits of vaccination.
  3. A person commits the offence of failure to present a child for vaccination if:
    1. He has responsibility for the care of a child under 18,
    2. He knows, or ought to know, that an order is in place under this section which requires the child to receive a vaccine, and
    3. He intentionally or recklessly fails to present the child for vaccination.
It shall be a defence for a person charged under this subsection to prove:
    1. That at the material time, he knew or had reasonable cause to believe that the child was exempt from the requirement by virtue of an order made by a General Practitioner under Subsection 2 of this section, or
    2. That he had reasonable excuse or other lawful authority which prevented him from presenting the child for vaccination.
A person convicted of an offence under this subsection is liable on summary conviction to a fine not greater than Level 5 on the standard scale.
  4. A person commits the offence of obstructing the delivery of a vaccine if he engages in a course of action which is likely to disrupt or delay the delivery of a vaccine to a child, without reasonable excuse. A person convicted of an offence under this subsection is liable on summary conviction to a fine not greater than Level 5 on the standard scale.
  5. A General Practitioner may make an application under oath to a magistrate under this section if he has reasonable cause to believe that a person is committing an offence under Subsection 3 of this section, petitioning the magistrate to authorise a warrant of execution. Should a magistrate find reasonable cause to believe that an offence under Subsection 3 has been committed, he may authorise and deliver a warrant of execution to a constable. A warrant issued under this subsection will authorise a constable to enter any premises controlled by the person suspected of the offence in order to locate the child in respect of whom the offence has been committed and bring that child, in police custody, to a General Practitioner or Registered Nurse so that the material vaccination may be delivered.

Mandatory Vaccinations
Mandatory vaccinations are vaccinations which must be administered to children by law. It is a criminal offence for a parent to refuse to present their child for any of the vaccinations on the Mandatory Vaccination Schedule, and the Education Act gives constables the power to forcibly remove children from their homes to administer the vaccine if their parents will not comply. A doctor may order that a child does not receive a vaccine if there is a medical reason for such an order. The following vaccinations are mandatory:

Hepatitis B
Protects against hepatitis B. Given during first year of life, as four doses given over 12 months.

DTaP/IPV/Hib
Protects against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio and haemophilus influenza type B (Hib). Given to children aged 2 months. A Hib booster is given at 12 months of age, administered with the Meningitis C booster. A DTaP/IPV booster is given to the child just before their first day of school, and again at age 13.

BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerrin)
Protects against tuberculosis (TB). Given from birth to 12 months.

Pneumococcal (PCV)
Protects against some types of pneumococcal infection. Given at 2, 4 and 12 months of age.

Meningitis C
Protects against Meningitis C. Given at 3 and 4 months of age, with a booster given at 12 months of age, administered with the Hib booster.

MMR
Protects against measles, mumps and rubella. Given at 12-13 months and 3-4 years of age.

HPV
Protects against human papillomavirus. Given at age 12 to girls only, and for the time being to girls aged 12-18 as part of a catch-up program.

'At-Risk' Vaccines
The following vaccines are mandatory only for children who are specially at risk of contracting one of these diseases, or who would suffer serious medical problems if they did contract one of these diseases. The child's GP will inform the parents if the child needs to be presented for one of these vaccinations. Unless one falls into an at-risk category and is ordered to have one of these vaccines by a doctor, one must pay for these vaccinations.

Varicella
Protects against chicken pox. Given from one year of age upwards (one dose for children from one year to 12 years. Two doses given 4-8 weeks apart for children aged 13 years or older).

Seasonal Flu
Protects against seasonal flu. Given from six months and over in a single jab every year in October/November. Also available for free to over-65s and pregnant women.

Travel Vaccines
These are mandatory for children travelling to areas of the world where these diseases are common or for children who are determined to be at risk of catching these diseases in Makaar (e.g. children who have been exposed to someone with one of these diseases); it is also available for free to adults who are planning to travel to such areas of the world or who are judged to be at risk. A note will be made in the child's passport that he has received the vaccine; officials may refuse to allow a child who has not received the appropriate vaccinations to leave the country. The vaccines available are:

Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis A (X), Yellow Fever, Rabies (X)

Those vaccines marked with an (X) are also mandatory for those undertaking a course in medicine or nursing, as explained below.

Non-Mandatory Vaccines
Makaar's Bill of Rights does not allow the government to require an adult to have a vaccination, so anyone who reaches age 18 without having one of the above vaccinations must choose by themselves to have the vaccine. Vaccines which were mandatory for children are free for all adults.

It is a requirement of entry to all medical courses in Makaar (clinical science, dentistry, medicine and nursing) that all vaccines have been administered; one may not begin any of these courses unless one has received all the mandatory vaccines, including Hepatitis A and Rabies, or one has been issued a certificate by a doctor exempting one from having any of the above vaccines. Holding a license to practice medicine or to be a nurse also requires that one receives boosters when required and that one is vaccinated annually against seasonal flu.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.
Makaar is ranked 272nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs (per capita).
Makaar is ranked 408th in the world for Nicest Citizens.
