Fwoosh.

A 6-foot pillar of dark red flames burst to life on the sidewalk outside the apartment. It lasted only a few seconds before fading back to the ground, but when it did, it revealed a red-haired, red-eyed figure wearing a black, knee-length jacket.
"Ugh... Spawn-point change?" he muttered, rubbing his left eye in irritation. "Already? It's only been a few months..." He glanced down at the sidewalk guiltily. "And now there's ash all over the sidewalk!" he exclaimed. "I thought I was past that stage!" At least there wasn't any on him this time. "Bloody h--" He interrupted himself with a growl. Hopefully, he glanced up at the building in front of him. There was something familiar about it, so maybe... No. Wrong street-number, wrong street name. So...
"Might as well look around first," he muttered to himself, teleporting across the street. He sulked at the ash it created for a moment before glancing up at the building. "... Chaos?" He blinked. Had the spawn-point only moved a few meters, then, to drop him outside the apartment building? He doubted it; he couldn't even calculate the amount of possible destinations on the planet. You'd need to know the exact number of square-feet of relatively stable, safe, dry land. It was extremely unlikely that he'd end up in the same country, even, let alone the same city.
So why did this place look so similar?

You're awesome and I've got a major crush on you, but you don't even realize it and I think I totally screwed up just now? she finished the thought in her head. She rubbed the back of her neck. "I always say stupid stuff and embarrass myself. I'm sorry."

"No, you're right, it's just that I am a bit proud of who I am, but I don't like it either. I mean, shit on me tends not respond or acts up on me. If even the smallest growth or shrinkage or any other morph to my anatomy could be a simple death wish to me. Anyway, that's what I wanted to say, I know it's kinda shitty, still."

Wren chewed on the side of her tongue after Barox had spoken, lost in thought.

"My people alter themselves to be more one with the Great Machine," she said after a while. "People think that machines are more predictable than ogranics. They point to clockwork devices and say things like 'Oh, as long as it's maintained, it'll run forever' and that's true, but a clockwork is a clockwork and not mixed with fragile organic parts."

She rolled up her sleeves to show him where mechanical met flesh. "You can see how I'm put together. On the outside, my cybernetics and bionics are sort of obvious. On the inside, they're only obvious if you scan me. My artificial respirations are set to mimic human breathing; my lungs rotted away a long time ago from the pollution on my forge world. My heart is stronger because it doesn't have to pump blood all the way to my outer extremities, but there's a mechanism to slow it down, and even bypass it, so I can hibernate during long voyages. It acts up all the time. There's more, but you get the idea. My people believe in this stuff. We embrace it or die. I didn't have a choice when I was younger. You didn't have any choice at all. We'd both die if they changed our bodies with weird weapons or magic. Even the slightest change can disconnect vital circuits or supply lines."

She shrugged. "I guess what I'm saying is we didn't ask for this fate, but we're stuck with it for various reasons. We cope and adapt. Maybe my tech can help your tech? Maybe we've figured out solutions to stuff that plagues you, and maybe you've figured out solutions to stuff that plagues us? Teamwork."

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

"We do need to make up." Drova agreed. "Start over, and try getting along from this point on?"

At the point Kei realized Lucius wasn't home, she sighed to herself for standing there for too long and decided to make her way to Chaos for a drink or two, maybe catch a bite to eat. She noticed Tieria and Dora conversing and decided to head over.

"Pshh, like I know. I was sent here to get friends. Dad said I needed some, and I wasn't going to a normal school, so my tutors were all, like, a bajillion ages old, and who wants to be friends with them?" Drova chuckled, still a bit antsy about Octavian, but easing up to him.

--

"Hey, Dora, Tieria, and someone else?" Kei raised an eyebrow and sat down in her own seat, waiting to see if Tieria would join her in her lap or something.
