How do I sign up to be a moderator?

I know it sounds pretty stupid, but I have no idea who to ask or where to ask if I want to become a moderator. I have decided that I am done with argument threads, and want to help out the NS community in general. I assume that there is some place to ask?

You don't ASK to be a moderator. In fact, IIRC, asking actually decreases your chances of ever being one. The mods, if they ever decide they need a new person to join the Hivemind, will choose somebody, and ask them if they want to become a mod. [/notamod]

So, we get peppered regularly with questions to the effect of "How do I become a moderator?" and "So-and-so would make a great mod, don't you think?"
