The Democratic Republic of Reunified Romania

1 - What is the legal drinking age? Not enforced; responsible consumption is recommended and promoted, alcoholism is almost unheard of.

2 - Driving age? aptitude tests taken at entry into High School, Learner's License and ability to drive in the company of parent or guardian at approx. age 15, officially owning a Driver's License and car at approx. 16.

3 - Age of sexual consent? 16, child molesters face severe punishment.

4 - Voting age? N/A, the Marshal governs for life and for the greater happiness of the Nation.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? vague concept; Romanian boys are expected to behave responsibly and maturely from approx. age 13, must be prepared to help their family or defend the Nation if need be. One truly becomes a "Man" after having completed his year of military service.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?

-Pot - not officially legal, but the government makes a killing by selling highly-taxed pot under the table to finance the economy. Viewed as the pastime of losers by much of society.

- Tobacco - legal and highly-taxed; frowned upon, considered a waste of money, loss of health, and the habit of weak individuals.

- Cocaine - illegal, frowned upon.

-Alcohol - legal, responsible consumption is recommended and promoted, alcoholism is very rare.

- LSD - illegal.

- Caffeine - legal, no duh...

- Heroin - illegal.

7 - Can people have guns? yes, must qualify as a "responsible individual", pass an adequacy test and register said gun. Firearms are unpopular in Romanian society however(seen as a cowardly weapon), people preferring Martial Arts and swords for self-defense. Guns much more commonplace in the Military.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: Democratic Republic of Reunified Romania / Free Nation of Reunified Romania. Informal: Romania. Also referred to as "Greater Romania" or "Great Romania".

9 - Do you have the death penalty? Yes, only for murder and heinous crimes.

10 - What is the speed limit? approx. 60 km/h on city streets, approx. 80 km/h on highways. Higher on freeways.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Official religion is Orthodox Christianity. There is a revival of Dacian nature-worship, elements of it are mixed into official religion. All other religions tolerated, except those sects viewed as "extreme" (ex: fundamentalist Islam, Pentecostal Church, isolationists cults).

Which of the following are legal:

12- Porn - pedophilia is illegal and severely reprimanded. Images of lolicon are frowned upon and their consumers are sneered at as "closet pedos". Live-action recordings of real-life bestiality, rape, coprophilia and snuff are illegal and sneered at with great contempt. However, porno is rightfully considered a viable alternative to casual and hasty sexual relations, so it is viewed as an asset to those who want to maintain their energy for their studies and training rather than wasting it on regrettable trysts. Furthermore, animated depictions of erotic situations are considered more ethically sound than actual porno involving living people. Seeing as Romania is a very masculine, militaristic society, the lamentations of the rare feminazi groups are met with snide ridicule by the numerous masculinist groups.

13-Prostitution - regulated, sanitary conditions enforced. Pimps are nonexistent, as officially sanctioned brothels give a portion of their money to the government in order to continue operating. The coffers of Romania are fat and healthy!

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - not recognized, rare in practice.

15-Homosexuality - legal for private citizens, pro-homosexual manifestations must not bother public opinion or public decency laws.

16-Stem cell research - officially sanctioned government scientists are responsible for such research.

17-Human Cloning - illegal, scientists who would attempt to clone a human being leave themselves open to harsh reprisals. However, a new law has recently been passed which permits stem cell research, but researchers must comply with very strict guidelines so as to not attempt to create a new race of super-human warriors that would try to overthrow the country.

18-Cock Fighting? condemned by Animal Welfare Laws, and seen by society as a ridiculous activity. Combat sports are infinitely more popular.

19-Slavery? - illegal.

20-Hunting? subject to certain regulations; hunting for food widely accepted. Hunting for sport must comply with quota laws so as to ensure that Romania's wildlife thrives.

21-Fishing - economically significant industry in the Black Sea region, fishermen must comply to regulations restricting overfishing.

22-Eating meat? there is no meal in the workday of the Romanian to not include a healthy portion of meat.

23-Littering? Littering laws are on the books, but the citizens don't litter in the first place.

24-Unisex bathrooms ? no.

25-Suicide? - rare and frowned upon.

26 - Gay marriage? - not recognized by the State. Marriage defined as between a man and a woman.

27-Abortion - rare and frowned upon, seeing as how contraceptive methods are widespread and inexpensive, thus rendering abortion almost obsolete.

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? child molestation, necrophilia and coprophilia. Child molesters face the guillotine, necrophiliacs are locked in an airtight coffin while everybody makes scary sounds, coprophiliacs are thrown in a vat of cow manure for public humiliation. Rape is generally frowned upon, perpetrators often get off with the "she was asking for it" defense.

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? optional.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". - is this another invention of the foreign powers? ...well, public decency laws are enforced.

31-What system do you have for taxes?
- pending; currently considering 8% flat tax on purchases, 15% income tax and increasing for the very wealthy.

31aSales tax? see above

31bImport/Export tax? some protectionist taxes on certain products that compete with home-grown.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? must be born in Romania, and declare the Sermon of Fidelity. Foreigners may obtain citizenship after 7 years on the territory, and displaying good behavior.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? people from what are classified as "Enemy Nations" are not allowed in Romania, unless supplying hard proof of good intentions. Travel restrictions on felons, and those who are seen as potential extremists (religious or political).

34-What type of government are you? Benevolent Dictatorship. Rules by trust, not by fear.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? censorship is seen as one of the great demons who threaten Romanian society; strictly illegal, except in times of war.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example – it is a society based on honor, rectitude, honesty and loyalty. The man is the soldier and provider, the woman is the caretaker and responsible for organizing the house; some foreigners may see these gender roles as "archaic" or "unmodern", but Romanians are very happy with them.

1 - What is the legal drinking age?

14.

2 - Driving age?

Drivers can test for licenses at 18.

3 - Age of sexual consent?

16, but no one will be prosecuted for underage sex if all parties are within two years of each other.

4 - Voting age?

Voting? What a quaint concept.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)?

16 is the earliest a child can declare independence from a parent.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal?

All drug use is legal, but crimes committed while under the influence of drugs incurs extra penalty unless there is a physician's prescription for the drug in question.

7 - Can people have guns?

Individual ownership of small arms weapons is legal. However, military service is a requirement, and includes gun safety and marksmanship training without exception. Anyone who obtains an exception from military service is automatically prohibited from possessing firearms.

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called

The Empire of Treznor.

Treznor, or the Empire.

Treznorians.

9 - Do you have the death penalty?

Yes. The Empire reserves the right to impose death upon any citizen at need.

10 - What is the speed limit?

Standard residential speed limit is 40 kilometers per hour. Rural speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour. Highways have no speed limit, but traffic control has broad latitude in issuing fines for reckless driving.

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted?

There are no restrictions on religious attendance, but the government is strictly secular.

Which of the following are be legal:

12 - Porn

Pornography is legal, provided all participants are of legal age and can demonstrate written consent.

13 - Prostitution

Legal and highly regulated.

14 - Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory

Legal, but not officially recognized. All parties are welcome to participate in whatever marriage ceremonies their customs require, but legal relationships are considered a strictly civil matter.

15 - Homosexuality

Legal.

16 - Stem cell research

Legal. There is a Ministry of Science dedicated to it, although it does not attempt to compete with private research.

17 - Human Cloning

Legal, but not yet possible within the Empire. Attempts to date have not produced viable clones.

18 - Cock Fighting?

Legal.

19 - Slavery?

Illegal. Private ownership of slaves is prohibited. Convicted felons may be pressed into military service, but will be released at the end of their sentence.

20 - Hunting?

Legal, but there's not much left to hunt.

21 - Fishing

Legal, but there's not much left to fish.

22 - Eating meat?

Legal. Dragon steak is a very rare, but highly sought-after meal.

23 - Littering?

Illegal.

24 - Unisex bathrooms ?

Legal, and not unusual.

25 - Suicide?

Legal, but officially rare.

26 - Gay marriage?

The only restrictions on civil unions involve physical and mental fitness. As long as the participants can demonstrate that they actively agree to entering into a union, are of legal age and can demonstrate no conflicting agreements (prior unions restricting membership), all unions are permitted.

27 - Abortion

Legal.

28 - What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ?

Non-consenting sexual contact is illegal. Any participant under the legal age of consent is considered non-consenting by default, unless all participants are within two years of each other.

Note: snuff films are legal so long as the participants are committing suicide of their own volition, and their lives are not ending through the actions of another.

29 - Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory?

Clothing is optional, but full nudity is only popular in the tropical northern regions. Current trends currently focus on jumpsuits suitable for interstellar ship use, due to the Empire's active colonization efforts.

30 - Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene".

There are no "obscenity" or "decency" laws.

31 - What system do you have for taxes?

All businesses must sell a 20% share interest to the Imperial government. The Empire accepts dividends in exchange for the initial start-up cash and oversight. The Empire does not generally exercize voting rights, but reserves the right to do so if the business demonstrates poor management.

31a Sales tax?

None.

31b Import/Export tax?

Imports are taxed on a case-by-case basis. The Empire regularly engages in free trade agreements with allied nations.

32 - What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen?

Military service is required for all citizens. This requirement can be waived due to physical impairments, such as a severe medical handicap or age.

33 - What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country?

There are no restrictions.

34 - What type of government are you?

The Empire is an authoritarian dictatorship.

35 - To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media?

The media is overseen by the Imperial Ministry of Information. The Empire does not allow independent media to operate within its borders.

36 - Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? For example

It is generally expected that people develop an artistic skill of some sort. "Amateur Night" is a highly popular event in the capital's Fine Arts building, and the audience is fond of throwing food at poor performers.

Holidays are few, but the most popular is the Midwinter Bloodfeast, where animals are slaughtered and their blood is drunk. In modern times it's customary to sterilize the blood before consumption although the Emperor traditionally drinks it fresh from the bull.

Because speech is very carefully monitored by the government, the people have developed a highly complex system of gestures. It is not uncommon for an individual to be observed praising their local government representative while performing a short, violent gesture. While the government is aware of the negation effect intended by the gesture, it officially ignores the practice.

Are you kidding? I'm as close to a socialist as you can get in the US. I'd never run a nation like Treznor. Good role-play, like good acting, is about stretching your boundaries. I'm really not this much of a sociopath in person. ;)

The Theocracy of MihiCura

1 - What is the legal drinking age? Anyone considered a citizen and over the age of 12 may drink if not severely ill, but alcohol consumption is heavily monitored and abuse (ANY alcohol-related crimes) result in demotion from their rank in the Corpus system.
(All inhabitants of Mihicura are subject to the Corpus hierarchy. Every baby, no matter what the status of the parents, is born at a status of “0”, and must work their way up by their own merit. From “0” onwards they are considered citizens, at “1” they are granted the right to a free education, at “2” they are considered adults, and at “3” are the elite of the population. Any person who commits a serious crime is denied citizenship and their rank is listed as “Null.” As such “Null” inhabitants are essentially slaves and of no consequence to society. It IS possible for a “Null” to regain citizenship status if they prove themselves.)

2 - Driving age? Those at “2” or “3” may drive with open licences. Those at “1” may obtain a permit. Any at “0” may own cars, but must not drive them until they receive a better status.

3 - Age of sexual consent? Must be at a rank of at least ‘2” in the Corpus system, or at least 16.

4 - Voting age? “1”, “2” and “3” ranked persons may vote.

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? To obtain adult status (listed as “2” or above in the Corpus hierarchy.) Any person at “1” or below, but above the biological age of 20 may live alone, but must report to a government official twice a month. To gain at least a “2” rank, a person must have proved themselves as being fully able to understand and follow the laws of the government, and have a full education (generally 3 years in a government-run college, although the term varies with the person). They must also be at least 13 years of age.

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? Any person at “0” or above may take the LEGAL drugs listed below (unless specified), but “0” and “1” must be in the presence of a “2” or “3”

-Pot – Legal.

- Tobacco – Legal after “1” ranking achieved.

- Cocaine – Illegal.

-Alcohol – legal, following the above-mentioned qualifications for the drinking age.

- LSD – Only persons with a “3” rank in the Corpus system are allowed to take even a small amount (half a gram). Anything over a half a gram is completely illegal.

- Caffeine – Anyone, even “Null” tanked persons may take this.

- Heroin – Illegal.

- Other? They are unknown to the population, with the exception of illegal ecstasy.

17-Human Cloning – Allowed, but highly frowned upon.

18-Cock Fighting? Illegal, violators put in prison for 6 months.

19-Slavery? – All “Nulls” are regarded as “of no consequence to society” and thus many are in the slave trade. If anyone who is a citizen is enslaved, that is illegal. (If the “Null” proves himself as aforementioned, and is reformed, then they are freed).

Pedophilia (sex with anyone under 12, consenting or not, or those at a rank of “1” or below (unless they are over 16) is punished by “losing them” (or for a woman, since a loss is impossible, a very painful circumcision). The offender is also, again, made a permanent “Null”.

30-Do you have obscenity laws? If so - how would you define "obscene". – In states where children reside, no public displays of affection beyond kissing good, making out or “the rest” bad) Such is punishable with a fine of 3000 notes. In states where children are not to live, there are no obscenity laws.

31-What system do you have for taxes?
The current tax, according to the World Assembly, is 30% and much higher on the wealthy. The government of MihiCura is working on legislature to pass a flat tax.

31aSales tax? None.

31bImport/Export tax? Import taxes are at about 3% of the total profit.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? All are born citizens. All immigrants are allowed to be citizens upon residency, but this is at the rank of “0”, until they decide to move themselves up. The only non-citizens with the right of citizens are Tourists.

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? All are allowed, but deported if criminals.

34-What type of government are you? Currently and “Iron Fist Socialist State” according to the World Assembly. MihiCura is working to be reclassified. The actual classification of the nation is a Constitutional Monarchy.

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have?
Thelemic Holidays are huge parties and festivals.
Secular Holidays, such as Queen’s Day and Happiness Day are also very common.

34-What type of government are you? A pseudo-Democratic, Technocratic Dictatorship.

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? Up until very recently, the government heavily restricted the media but has since greatly loosened the laws and as a result, the economy and other parts of the nation have flourished.

The democratically elected parliament requires a unanimous vote to actually pass legalisation and with proportional representation and the number of extremists in parliament this is near impossible.

So the monarchy effectively rules by decree. I have achieved this through answering issues in a certain way... Unfortunately I can’t remember what those issues were. That plus a little bit of RP. Anyway my point is it’s easy to have moderate to high political freedoms and still have absolute power, you just have to be creative.

Huh. That's a rather unique and, I must say, deliciously evil approach. *golfclap*

The United Kingdom of Britainaston

1 - What is the legal drinking age?: 16 (Beer/wine/cider in a pub/restaurant if served with a meal)
16 (Liqueur chocolates)
18 Otherwise
Children under 5 must not be given alcohol unless under medical supervision or in an emergency (Children and Young Persons Act 1933, Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act 1937).[46][47]

The minimum age for the purchase of alcohol is 16. People aged 16 and 17 may consume wine, beer or cider on licensed premises (pubs/bars/restaurants) with a table meal. (In England & Wales, an adult must order[48]. In Scotland, no adult is required to be present[49][50]). The legal age for the purchase of alcohol from an off-licence (store/supermarket) is 18 (16 for liqueur chocolates).

2 - Driving age? 17 years old
In the United Kingdom, the minimum driving age for a car or van is 17 (unless in receipt of the higher rate disability allowance, in which case one can obtain a provisional licence at the age of 16 years), while a moped or restricted-power motorcycle can be ridden at 16. Until a United Kingdom driving test has been passed (which consists of three sections: theory and a hazard perception test followed by a supervised driving examination) a driver will hold a provisional licence and be subject to certain conditions.

The conditions attached to provisional licences of a particular category of vehicle are:
L-plates or (in Wales only) D plates (Welsh: Dysgwr) must be displayed on the front and back of the vehicle.
Learner drivers of a particular category and transmission type of vehicle must be accompanied by somebody aged at least 21 who has held a full driving licence for that category and transmission type for at least three years, except in the case of solo motorcycles and vehicles of certain categories designed solely for one person.
No trailer may be towed, except when driving a tractor or where a full licence gives provisional entitlement to drive a car with trailer, large goods vehicle with trailer or bus with trailer.
Motorcycle riders must not carry any pillion passenger.
Bus drivers must not carry any passenger except a person giving or receiving instruction.
Motorways must not be used by holders of car and motorcycle provisional licences.

After passing a driving test, the provisional licence is surrendered for a full UK licence (which must be done within two years of passing the test)[4] for the relevant kind of vehicle, although full car licences allow use of mopeds and motorcycles provided a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) course is completed. There are no extra speed, signage or alcohol consumption restrictions on newly passed drivers (unlike some other countries). However if a newly qualified driver gains six penalty points within two years of passing, the licence is automatically cancelled and the driver must pass the test again, including the theory. Furthermore, the six points remains on the new licence until their designated expiry time. It is optional to display newly passed green on white 'P' plates on the vehicle of newly passed drivers.

UK licences distinguish between automatic- and manual-transmission vehicles. Whilst a manual-transmission vehicle licence permits the holder to drive a vehicle of either kind, an automatic-transmission vehicle licence is solely for vehicles with an automatic transmission.

Forklifts require a separate licence. Forklift truck licences are issued by third party training companies, and not by the DVLA/DSA, which regulate all other vehicles.

3 - Age of sexual consent? The age of consent in Britainaston, as with the United Kingdom, is 16, as specified by the Sexual Offences Act 2003 {§44(1)}. However it is illegal for a person to engage in sexual activity with an individual under the age of 18 if they are in a position of trust in relation to that individual (teacher, warder, care giver, guardian, etc)

4 - Voting age? It is as the United Kingdom's:
The reduction of the voting age to 16 in the United Kingdom was first given serious consideration on 15 December 1999, when the House of Commons considered in Committee an amendment proposed by Simon Hughes to the Representation of the People Bill. This represented the first occasion that the question of a voting age lower than 18 had ever been put to a vote in the Commons. The Government opposed the amendment, and it was defeated by 434 votes to 36.

The Votes at 16 coalition, a group of political and charitable organisations supporting a reduction of the voting age to 16, was launched on 29 January 2003.[24] At this time a Private Member's Bill was also proposed in the House of Lords by Lord Lucas, and received a Second Reading on 9 January.

In 2004 the Electoral Commission conducted a major consultation on the subject of the voting and candidacy ages, and received a significant response. In its conclusions it recommended that the voting age remain at 18. On 29 November 2005 the House of Commons voted 136-128 (on a free vote) against a Bill for a reduction in the voting age to 16 proposed by Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Williams. Parliament chose not to include a provision reducing the voting age in the Electoral Administration Act during its passage in 2006.

On 27 February 2006 the report of the Power Inquiry called for a reduction of the voting age, and of the candidacy age for the House of Commons, to 16.[27] On the same day the then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, indicated in an article in The Guardian that he favoured a reduction provided it was made concurrently with effective citizenship education.[28]

The Ministry of Justice published on 3 July 2007 a Green Paper entitled The Governance of Britain, in which it proposed the establishment of a "Youth Citizenship Commission".[29] The Commission would, amongst other things, be tasked with examining the case for lowering the voting age. On launching the Paper the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, said in the House of Commons: "Although the voting age has been 18 since 1969, it is right, as part of that debate, to examine, and hear from young people themselves, whether lowering that age would increase participation."

5 - At what age would someone become an adult (free from parental control)? - 18 years old

6 - What types of recreational drugs (if any) are legal? - Per the United Kingdom's laws

7 - Can people have guns? Per the 1968 Firearms Act / 1988 Firearms (Amendment Act)

8 - What is the official full name of your country? What is the informal name? What are people of your nation called Formal: The United Kingdom of Britainaston, England / Britainaston / British and Britishastonian

9 - Do you have the death penalty? No, this is compeletely illegal

10 - What is the speed limit?
50 km/h (30 mph) for towns
100-115 (60-70 mph) for outside built-up areas/highways
115 (70 mph) for motorways
65-95 (40-60 mph) for lorries/trailers in towns
95-60 (60mph) for lorries/trailers on motorways

11 - What types of religions would are permitted or restricted? Most are legal

Which of the following are be legal: Some are legal

12- Pornography - Legal, but images of paedophilia, bestiality & rape are illegal
In England and Wales, the main legislation on pornographic materials is contained in the Obscene Publications Act 1959, the Obscene Publications Act 1964 and the Indecent Displays (Control) Act 1981. Video-orientated depictions of hardcore material (with certain exceptions for works considered primarily 'artistic' rather than pornographic) were illegal until 1999, when trade-barrier difficulties with regards to European Union membership ensured the relatively free movement of such goods for personal importation only. R18-rated videos are only available in licensed sex shops, but hardcore pornographic magazines are available in newsagents' (shops selling newspapers, magazines, confectionery, et cetera).

13-Prostitution - It is illegal for a "common prostitute" to loiter or conduct solicitation in a street or public place is illegal, therefore outlawing street prostitution.
it is also illegal for a potential client to solicit persistently, or solicit from a motor vehicle ("kerb crawling"). (In 1991 the head of the Crown Prosecution Service, Sir Allan Green, was caught committing this offence and resigned.)
owning or running a brothel is illegal
child prostitution is specifically illegal for the person paying (where child is defined as below 18)
controlling prostitution for gain is an offence, banning pimping

The last offence replaced the similar "living on earnings of prostitution" under the Sexual Offences Act 1956.

14-Polygamy/ Polyandry/ Polyamory - Polygamy is illegal in the United Kingdom, yet if the marriage took place in a foreign country that allows polygamy (for example, Saudi Arabia) then British law recognizes the union as valid. This decision was not made without controversy, and there have been protests as well as numerous pleas from officials to ban any form of recognition of polygamous unions in the United Kingdom

15-Homosexuality - Legal, as with all states in Europe and the European Union
Homosexuality legal (since 1 May 1967 in Wales and England, 1980 in Scotland and 1984 in Northern Ireland)
Equal age of consent (since 1 August 2001 for the whole UK)
Anti-discrimination laws in employment (since 1 May 2003)
Anti-discrimination laws in the provision of goods and services (since 1 April 2004*)

Same-sex marriage(s) (under review)
Recognition of same-sex couples as de facto couples (since 1 January 2003)
Recognition of same-sex couples as civil partnerships (since 1 December 2005)
Both joint and step adoption by same-sex couples (since 1 August 2006)
Gays allowed to serve openly in the military (since 1 September 2000)

Parentage for lesbians who undergo IVF (since 6 April 2009) [9] [10] [11]
Males who have sex with males allowed to donate blood (under review)
*since 6 April 2008 for transgender people

16-Stem cell research - Various ones happen

17-Human Cloning - Does not happen

18-Cock Fighting? Illegal

19-Slavery? - Abolished in the 1800s

20-Hunting? Laws

21-Fishing - see above

22-Eating meat? Happens, but frowned upon.

23-Littering? In the United Kingdom there is a maximum fine of £2,500 for persistent littering. Different local authorities also have the powers to impose on the spot fines to those caught littering. These are generally under £100. (Our law is the same)

24-Unisex bathrooms ? Grey area of law

25-Suicide? - Illegal
Suicide (and thus also attempted suicide) was illegal under English Law but ceased to be an offence with the passing of the Suicide Act 1961; the same Act makes it an offence to assist a suicide. While the simple act of suicide is lawful the consequences of committing suicide might turn an individual event into an unlawful act, as in the case of Reeves v Commissioners of Police of the Metropolis [2000] 1 AC 360 [3], where a man in police custody hanged himself and was held equally liable with the police (a cell door defect enabled the hanging) for the loss suffered by his widow; the practical effect was to reduce the police damages liability by 50%.

26 - Gay marriage? - Currently a grey area

27-Abortion - As with EU regulations on this

28- What types of sexual activity (if any) are illegal ? Rape, paedophilia, incest

29-Is your country's/culture clothing optional or mandatory? Nudity is considered as frowned upon

30-Do you have obscenity laws? Obscenity laws are as with the United Kingdom - the Obscene Publications Act
Obscenity law in England and Wales is currently governed by the various Obscene Publications Acts, but obscenity laws go back much further into the English common law.

The conviction in 1727 of Edmund Curll for the publication of Venus in the Cloister or The Nun in her Smock under the common law offence of disturbing the King's peace was the first conviction for obscenity in Great Britain, and set a legal precedent for other convictions.

A defence against the charge of obscenity on the grounds of literary merit was introduced in the Obscene Publications Act 1959. The OPA was tested in the high-profile obscenity trial brought against Penguin Books for publishing Lady Chatterley's Lover (by D. H. Lawrence) in 1960. The book was found to have merit, and Penguin Books was found not guilty — a ruling which granted far more freedom to publish explicit material. This trial did not establish the 'merit' defence as an automatic right; several controversial books and publications were the subject of British court cases throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s. Last Exit to Brooklyn, a 1964 novel by American author Hubert Selby, Jr. was subject of a private prosecution in 1966.

There is a substantial overlap between legal erotic literature and illegal pornography, with the distinction traditionally made in the English-speaking courts on the basis of perceived literary merit. Purely textual pornography has not been prosecuted since the Inside Linda Lovelace trial of 1976.
In late August 2005, the government announced that it plans to criminalise possession of extreme pornographic material, rather than just publication.

Almost all adult stores in the UK are forbidden from having their goods in open display under the Indecent Displays Act 1981, which means the shop fronts are often boarded up or covered in posters. A warning sign must be clearly shown at the entrance to the store, and no items can be visible from the street. No customer can be under eighteen years old. The Video Recordings Act 1984 introduced the R18-rated classification for videos that are only available in licensed sex shops, but hardcore pornographic magazines are available in newsagents in some places. The Ann Summers chain of lingerie and sex shops recently won the right to advertise for workers in job centres, which was originally banned under restrictions on what advertising could be carried out by the sex industry.
DA-Notices are official but voluntary requests to news editors not to publish items on specified subjects, for reasons of national security.

31-What system do you have for taxes? Currently as with the United Kingdom

31a
Sales tax? As per United Kingdom

31b
Import/Export tax? Varies on the product and where it is going to or coming from.

32-What is the criterion for someone to pass to become a citizen? Free movement, refugees,

33-What types of people do you allow (or not allow) into your country? See above.

34-What type of government are you? Conservative

35-To what degree is your government allowed to censor or restrict the media? There are several Acts of the United Kingdom Parliament for the protection of official information, mainly related to national security. The latest revision is the Official Secrets Act 1989
(1989 chapter 6), which removed the public interest defence by repealing section 2 of the Official Secrets Act 1911.
The Terrorism Act 2006 makes it an offence to "glorify" terrorism.
Beyond obscenity law, there have been a number of organizations whose main function was to approve material prior to distribution.

Plays and theatres had long been licensed by the Crown prior to 1737. Licensure of a playhouse, however, only gave a general patent. The crown had no ability to censor before plays were performed. Under the provisions of the Theatrical Licensing Act of 1737 as extended by the Theatres Act 1843, the Lord Chamberlain's Office was able to censor plays. This role continued until the Theatres Act 1968 abolished the practice following several cause célèbres, and a long campaign by the theatre critic Kenneth Tynan among others.

The British Board of Film Classification is the de facto film censor for films in Britain; since films not rated by the BBFC cannot be shown in most cinemas, or distributed as videos or DVDs, lack of BBFC approval generally makes productions of such films uneconomic.
In the case of films shown in cinemas, local authorities have the final legal say about who can watch a particular film. Almost always local authorities accept the Board's recommendation for a certificate for a film.
Under the Video Recording Act 1984, almost all video recordings must be classified by an authority chosen by the Home Secretary. This classification is then legally binding. Since the introduction of the Act, the BBFC has been the chosen authority. Certain works such as those that are related to sport, religion or which are designed to educate can be exempt from classification by the BBFC under the act.

The Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre pre-approves most British television advertising[25] (under Ofcom rules, other broadcasters can also approve their own advertising content, but most rely on the BACC). The Advertising Standards Authority is the regulatory advertising body, but can only prevent the republication of advertisements after upholding complaints from the general public.

The advent of the Internet access has made the act of censorship more difficult, and there has been a relaxation of censorship in recognition of this. BBFC guidelines have been relaxed further to allow the limited distribution of hardcore pornography under an R18 certificate, partially because of this, and partially because of a recognition that public attitudes have changed. Further confirmation of this change in attitude was provided by the French film Baise-moi, which was given an 18 certificate despite showing scenes of unsimulated sexual activity.

Ofcom is now the regulatory body for UK television, radio, and telecommunications services since the abolition of the Independent Television Commission. Ofcom exerts its powers under the Communications Act 2003. The government's new requirements for Ofcom only require it to ensure adherence to "generally accepted standards" and prevention of harm, removing the former requirement to adhere to standards of "taste and decency".

36-Aside from laws - what sort of unofficial (and unenforced) cultural rules and traditions do you have? None
