Naomi nodded. "She'll have questions I won't be able to answer. Their personalities clashed sometimes, but that's because they had stuff in common, I think. She thinks really highly of Dora. Tomorrow. We'll tell her then?"

The underground utilities, networks, rail lines and other features had been laid and Klaus and Minerva sat back in the tent city and shared a moment of quiet. Work would continue throughout the night, of course; there was so much still to do.

Klaus began to focus on the military base and airport in the hope of speeding training along. Minerva would meet with the city planners and other officials in the morning to discuss permits and pour over existing ordinance laws.

The Nifid had moved on to cleaning up other parts of the world where the Drones had been destructive. They would return to aid in the structuring of parks and preserves for the new city.

All in all, it had been a good day for the entire group.

Swith melted. He was the only one capable of sending simultaneous trills of arousal and comfort down her spine. She kissed his mouth, savoring the taste of his lips, and then slowly reached over to turn out the light.

The crowd seemed to have dispersed. Dora's chosen had left. Her sister was sitting on the floor; Luce helped her up. Giovenith was lying sideways, asleep; he covered her with his uniform jacket.

Sitting down next to Naomi and a strangely intelligent-looking rabbit, Luce dozed off.

"And people say Chaos is bad?" Deuce muttered to himself. He didn't understand any of it even though he had lived amongst them several months.

He took his belongings and returned to his room, passing by Ceril en route.

The old cyborg's mind was elsewhere and Deuce received no more than a nod of recognition. Ceril's thoughts rested on home and Klaus.

The cultist leader was far away. The odd man welcomed the dawn while waiting for Minerva's regeneration. Things had been quiet on Earth. It was too easy to be lulled into a comfortable state. Both gods were far away and Klaus was ill at ease with just Sutra and Atosh minding the fort. He wondered when Ogoti would return.

Strangely, Ogoti was wondering the same. He stood in the Fourth District in unseen form and felt sympathy for Thriller's prior plight. His opinion of the man hadn't changed. Trial and error were necessary for progress and eggs needed to be broken if an omelet was to be made.

"Come to think of it, perhaps I respect him a bit more for having the balls to attempt these things," the eldest god mused.

He dissolved into night and shadow to roam the planet for a while.

Bran was sitting in the library reading a small stack of books he'd picked out to get his mind off of things. He didn't understand why Torii had neglected to tell him, he didn't understand why Dora had died, and he didn't understand by a longshot how some of the others were so used to death. He then supposed that being godlings required that sort of understanding, but he would never get the idea.

The small stack of books slowly decreased over the hours alone and Bran returned them and got another stack.

Having finished his books, Bran walked the halls for a little while before spotting Torii in the same emotional state as he was. He quickly ran over and hugged her vigorously without warning.

"I'm so, so sorry. I-I didn't mean to yell the other night." His voice was nearly a whisper as he spoke, but he tried conveying an understanding tone.

"I'm sorry too, Mr. Nikanor. I was wrong....I wanted to let you and Mrs. Rylli and Rachelle have some fun before I told you, but I never got the chance,name I never did tell you...."

She didn't look at him.

"It's alright, Torii. It's alright." Bran said and slid down the wall into a sitting position, holding Torii like he would a crying child. Only this time, he was crying with her.

"It's past us now, we both know that. M-Mayby we'll at least get to say our goodbyes to Dora sometime, and we can take comfort in the fact that . . .

. . . That we'll all end up meeting eachother up there at some point, we'll all be much happier then, but right now, we have our lives to live down here. She-" He said tearfully, without using Dora's name. "She's probably waiting for us up there, holding us stools at the bar until we join her someday. Not today, but years from now."

His own words ended up quelling the tears and actually made him chuckle a little bit. He'd hoped what he was saying was true, but he really didn't believe himself. But hey, it gave him something to believe in.
