"Wake up, Lucifer."

"Wake up, Harbinger. The time has come. You must awaken."

The man blinked, groaning. "What on Earth..." he muttered quietly to himself. He looked around and saw nothing but a field around him. There were many white robed men and women sitting in a circle reverently.

"Who are you?" he barked out. "I am the Protector of the Earth. Speak your names and titles." he demanded, looking around cautiously. It was a starry night out and there was silence and shadows, aside from the beings in the glowing white robes.

"We are the druids, the guardians of the tree." one spoke in a deep and authoritative voice. "I am Rejak the Wise. You are here to take command of the tree. It is your duty as Harbinger."

"I do not understand what you mean." The man growled out, his handsome face surveying the area again. The silence and shadows remained. "What tree? What do you need me to do and why should I?"

"You are the Harbinger." the druid explained patiently. "You are the one who will guard this world."

"What does the world need guarding from? Why me? Why would I trust you?"

"Because it is destiny." came the response, which was less than pleasing to the Harbinger. The druid with the deep voice, Rejak, continued. "The tree is the centre of the multiverse. It holds everything together. When the tree breaks down, it all breaks down. It is the duty of the Harbinger, a man who is chosen by Fate, to maintain and hold the tree together."

"Hold it from what?"

"Monsters." the druid turned, looking out into a distance. "There are many who would love for nothing to bring it down crashing down around us...the universe will die one day. But if the Harbinger does not protect it, it will all crash quickly."

The man scoffed. "Why should I believe your words? You haven't shown me proo-"

Then he saw the tree. It suddenly lit up. He looked up, seeing this massive plant growing up into the sky and vaguely felt himself soar up into the air, Rejak standing alongside him.

They heard music in the distance, but the Harbinger stared out at the world he needed to protect. The worlds. There were...there were so many. The tree was a behemoth, stretching across the stars and worlds, hanging in nothing but the thin air.

"This is an illusion of sorts." Rejak freely admitted. "Seeing the true tree would genuinely destroy your mind. Though you are exceptional in many ways, you are still only a mortal in many others. And the true tree would be incomprehensible at this stage of your development. But I will give you an explanation now..."

The First Harbinger. A long time ago, before the Age of Man, before the Age of the Gods or the Age of the Ancients or the ones before them, there was chaos. There was pure, unadulterated and unmeaning chaos.

It was a Gotterdammerung. Time did not make sense. Sound did not make sense. Life and Death were abstracts and concepts that were twistable and changeable at whim. It was a world without order. A world without sense.

The First Harbinger made order out of the chaos. When the Pradesa fell, the First Harbinger began to diligently build the tree out of the corpse. The First made the universes and he made them separate. He pulled reality out of the seams and knitted it back into a logical existence once more.

The worlds existed peacefully for some time. The First trained many in his ways, those who would become druids. The druids would learn from the First and would keep the tree maintained, providing life to it.

But then the First died. A successor was to be chosen- but they did not pick among the druids. The First forbade it, stating that the druids would be forced to find the reincarnation of the First, who would then maintain the tree evermore.

The next Harbinger continued to maintain the tree, but now they had awoken a being. Leviathan began to gnaw on the tree, intent on entering the worlds and bring upon his own dark order.

It was, as Rejak explained, the Harbinger's responsibility to maintain the tree. He would be the sun, providing the care needed for the tree to survive and grow. And he would protect this tree from those that would destroy it.

Rejak concluded his tale and looked toward the Harbinger. "You are the one. You will be the protector now. The tree has seen scars and damage. But it is now your-"

"No." the Harbinger said flatly.

Rejak paused. This was not in the script. "...Pardon?"

"I'm not doing it." Lucifer said, picking himself off the ground and looking toward the tree. "I'm not guarding your tree. I have other things to do, personal things."

"This is important." Rejak said, his voice in disbelief.

"Personal is not the same as important." Lucifer replied, glaring. "I may be the precious reincarnation of your Harbinger. But I don't need to do your job."

The druid gaped. There was no other word for it. The white robe fell off and Lucifer saw the pale-skinned elf-like man for the first time. "You...you will abandon your duties?"

"It is not my duty." Lucifer said simply. "It never was. My duty is to Earth, Heaven and Hell. Those are the things I must do. Then...well, then we can consider your tree."

"You're giving up the world-"

Then Lucifer leaped toward one of the branches of the tree very suddenly, disappearing inside the worlds. Rejak let out a roar of despair.

Silently, Set chuckled. "This went far better than I ever could have expected." he noted to himself, staying out of sight. But now he heard the music and he heard the words as well.

And the Prophets have foretold, of black wings in the cold, that when worlds wage death unforetold.
Leviathan, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound, will come with a hunger to swallow the world.
But a day, shall awake, when the dark dragon is slain
And the warriors will end the pain!
Never will it come again
Harbinger, we await your reign.

Set laughed out loud. "You deluded fools." he muttered. "The Gotterdammerung will begin once more..."

I'll probably edit it later.

I still have to find you. I've been unsuccessful thus far.

I doubt you'll ever be successful. Trying to find an Indian named "Krishna Khan" is like trying to find an American named "John Smith." :P

And I rarely put my real first name down on paperwork.

I'll freely admit that most people don't want to go through the trouble of spelling that shit or pronouncing it, especially Westerners, even when I shortened it to Navan.

If you want a good rp, read this shit.
Tiami is cool.
Nat: Night's always in some bizarre state somewhere between "intoxicated enough to kill a hair metal lead singer" and "annoying Mormon missionary sober".

Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.

It's Nightkill. He's been there so long he rents out rooms to other people at a flat rate, but demands cash up front.

That's why so many Americans have single-syllable names. :P
