RPs are best when they're player-acted and player-directed. The OP should, ideally, just be the producer and maybe the consulting director.

No, they definitely aren't. Have you seen player-acted and player-directed RPs? Go take a look over at F7, if you want that kind of thing.

Players are fucking stupid and you do not want them to be in charge of anything except their characters.

I'm not saying you take the reigns off and let them run wild. I'm just saying that everyone should be able to play their part and be an important part of the story.

If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there.

If none of the players really matter to the overall story, then there's no point in even making an RP. You might as well just write a novel.
