Cute! Or is it?

Postby Imsogone » Sun Jan 17, 2010 12:21 pm

So you watch the video and the "aaww" factor hits you. It's cute. Or is it really? According to the author it's a yeah, but. He apparently thinks that we've become too enamored of trivial cutes and aren't doing enough to pursue more intellectual humor.

While I appreciate his stand, I can't help wondering how many people get, or want to get, "intellectual" humor. Some people are just trivial and that's what they want - and need. Some people are hyper (read pseudo) intellectual and wouldn't be caught dead "appreciating" something as trivial as a kid and a dog playing. Maybe we just need to be balanced - a little Mark Twain, a little Three Stooges, a little George Carlin and a few kids playing with dogs or kittens.

So before this becomes bloggy, chime in with what you think.

Cus it could harm the child.
Though I didn't personally see anything wrong with it.

That was pretty cute, and funny, and the Kid seemed to be having fun, Im not seeing the problem,

Anyway, I appreciate lots of types of humour, I consider the Daily Show and the Colbert Report to be forms of "intellectual humour" and they are wildly popular as well...

I think the Youtube medium, with its short video format is just more conducive to cuter, lighter humour...whereas Books, Movies, and TV are better suited to Intelligent Humour, due to there not being as much of a length issue...

OK, it's a little dangerous. I mean, have you seen the size of that beast? There must be talk of tearing down that dog and putting up a shopping mall.

And that kid is so little. Things could easily get out of hand. One wrong move, and the kid might have to spend 12 years of public school explaining the paw print on his face.

However, the mom or some other Responsible Adult is well within grabbing distance. The child could easily be pulled out of harm's way if the dog suddenly mistakes him for a Milk-Bone or starts tap dancing on his face.

...

Paranoid much? Or perhaps he's had bad experiences with dogs in his childhood years. Either way, he seems like a bit of an overprotective whiner.

No! That would play right into his hands! Let's grab torches and chase him into a windmill, along with his creator.

Dog, whatever, I'm used to watching more cat videos, and only skimmed the OP. Point still stands.

In my humble opinion..
Yes, that video was cute. It made me smile. Although, yes, if that dog wasn't as tame as it had been, it might have mistaken the kid for a snack. Yes, the dog could have hurt the kid. But you gotta accept the fact that some parents are less caring than others, and sometimes, this companionship could be a good thing.
There's my worthless two cents.

Why can't humor just be humor... I personally find humor in pretty much anything. I laugh at the inane, such as kittens playing, I laugh at the inappropriate such as people falling down the stairs, I laugh at the intelligent, and I laugh at any combination thereof. Perhaps I just have a sensitive humor detector?

One of my current favorite jokes is the concept of forming a political organization named Rise Against Profiteering Everywhere. Its intelligent and classless.

If you really want to establish dominance on them, kick them. Nothing says "I own you, bitch," more than a swift kick to the arse.
