LOL! Stress test time!

Stress testing a forum? Hmm... I do believe that the NS community has some experience with that.

I wonder if those old servers we nearly killed back in 03/04 ever fully recovered.

Yeah, ever since a very long time ago the Jolt forums refused to let me auth, and the ads, and yeah.

These forums make posting convenient and easy, and for a picky person like me that's the difference between being here forever and never posting on the Jolt forums to posting on these because it takes all of 3 clicks to do so.

I hope this isn't a completely stupid question, but for nations that have been made unable to return to the Jolt forums by their "technical problems", will this allow them to once again participate in forums?

I have already re-routed our forum's link to the One Stop Rules Shop (http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13) here.

My thanks to the most gracious Naivetry (http://www.nationstates.net/naivetry) for the compendium of links to off site forums. Nice.

This Forum is a VAST improvement - and I think it makes the NS Forum and NS sites more "sticky" (that's webspeak for ya wanna hang out more) and interesting. Not having to "leave NS" to come here or "leave here" to be right back in good old NS is excellent.

Booyah to [violet] and any other codemonkeys who made this happen - and this will be, I suspect, the place to be from now on. I hope it stops being an experiment some day and part of original NS. :D

You're quite welcome, Mayor. :) If you run across any additions or changes, please let me know - it's much easier to keep up if there are a lot of people helping.

Agreed on the "stickiness" - after a couple of weeks, it's started to feel comfortably familiar here. At this rate, I'll have more posts in these forums in two months than I did in two years on Jolt.

Thanks for all the work - this has been amazing.

Yes indeed! I'm one of the "We're sorry, but Jolt has deleted a number of accounts for inactivity" brigade, so Jolt is closed to me, but here I am, back in forums. It's like back in the days Before Jolt --- except these forums actually work without magic dust and my lucky penny.

Thing is, I don't even post all that much because I don't have all that much to say, but I do like to be able to read up on stuff: developments in rules, other news, amusing and fun stuff, discussions. I like to lurk. Once Jolt deleted me I couldn't even read "One Stop Rules Shop". But now ... I can go here! :D

So this move gets a big thumbs-up from me.
Peace and coffee,

Ugh, I'm confused. What is this forum, has it not always been here? lol, I've been on NS for a few months and I don't know (indeed, I am very inattentive)

The NS-forum has always been here, but is/was hosted on Jolt. They are just changing a host. That's as far as I know.

So... should I just repost my military/national factbooks here, or...

I'm probably staying with Jolt until it dies and is 6 days gone.

We've been trying to quietly urge players to make backups of threads they can't afford to lose, and some folks are already starting to repost and port stuff over. While ideally the Jolt forum will eventually be locked and left as a read-only archive, we cannot guarantee that Jolt will actually keep it around indefinitely. Issues with Jolt's staff were a major part of the reason we began to seriously pursue getting a first-party NS forum up and running.

Maybe it's possible to move some of the "fact" and "how to" related stuff, like the "One Stop Rules Shop" to an actual web page on www.nationstates.net itself? So that they survive forums and will live and die with the game.

In that case, could you maybe make a board entitled "Factbooks and Data Sheets" or similar? Because lots of people do those, and it would help keep II or Gameplay General unclustered, and keep our factbooks organized.

I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but I've just one suggestion (I guess this is the place for suggestions?). Opening links in new tabs/windows by default would be pretty handy, rather than navigating away from the forum!

As one of the people who could never get onto the old pre-Jolt servers, best of luck with your brave new endeavour.

EDIT: Founded Oct 2005 !?! Surely not, what am I missing ?

Fixed! As per previous post (somewhere), a few nations that entered the forum at the start of May got resurrection dates for Founding dates.
