Maritime Imperial is the largest independent builder of civilian vessels in the Kingdom of Maltropia. Since the 1800s we have been producing the merchant vessels that fuel the Maltropian economy, a sea-going economy which has grown to become one of the most stable in the modern world. We build the tankers and the container ships used by such well-known firms as Maltropian Cargo International, the oil platforms used by Tallaght Allied Petroleum and the icebreakers that keep the country's busy sea-lanes open. Our subsidiary Tethys Mara, launched in 2009, works to provide only the highest quality of naval vessel for the modern fleet.

In short - we make boats.

Headquartered in the historic city of Esrium, we have a reputation for the quality shipwrighting that defined Maltropian vessels for the last four hundred years. This reputation has brought our products into demand throughout the world, and to meet it we operate numerous shipyards throughout Maltropia and are constantly looking for new sites throughout the world. A full list of our locations is available on this site.

The first shipyard of Maritime Imperial was set up on the quays of Esrium in 1807, where large deep-hulled wooden ships were built to ply Winter Bay and other Maltropian waterways. Within two decades, that single shipyard had grown to be the largest non-military facility of its kind in the entire kingdom. We were the first major shipwright in the nation to lay down a steel hull, in 1860, a practice which was soon emulated by Ardencross Naval Yards in the west. We have been successfully selling commercial vessels for over two hundred years, and we believe that speaks for itself.

Image

Maritime Imperial offers a wide range of civilian and merchant vessels and, as we continue to release products, it is our long-term plan to provide ships for all situations. If none of those listed here satisfy your needs, we will occasionally take commissions, or modify existing designs to suit your unique requirements. Please note that modifications may necessarily increase the final price.

Tethys Mara, our naval wing, works with other industry leaders to bring military and support vessels that fill the niches other shipwrights simply can't. These ships can also be found in our catalogue, coloured orange/brown.

At no extra charge, you may request vessels to be repainted in a specified livery. Please provide detailed information when doing so, to avoid any errors. Additional pricing information, such as the costs of optional extras, is available on each product's page, linked to below.

The Sejanus-class container ship is one of the most popular products of Maritime Imperial. Originally developed in 1980 under commission from Maltropian Cargo International, it was designed for efficient regional and domestic shipping and has undergone continual refinement to serve this purpose ever more effectively.

The cargo hold is designed to make the most of the ship's dimensions, with specially-shaped cell guides arranged for standard TEU or FEU containers. When fully loaded, the Sejanus is capable of taking 5,300 TEU. This size is ideal for short-range international shipping and sufficiently small to navigate through most major straits or canals, conforming to Colimax specifications.

At Maritime Imperial, we realise how important cost-effectiveness is in the shipping industry. While the Sejanus may have a high initial cost, it more than makes up for it over time with operating costs well below average, assuming regular maintenance. The vessel is designed to operate at a maximum of efficiency, powered by three of Enmar Industries' DT-13 diesel engines which give it a reliable source of power. The recommended crew size is a mere 14, though the ship has accommodation for more and can fit up to forty in its lifeboats in the improbable event of an emergency.

The Sejanus, like most of MI's vessels, boasts a reinforced hull to push aside pack ice and reduce the danger posed by larger obstacles. A second hull is contained within the first to provide against a hole or leak in the outer hull, with the cavity between the two being narrow to minimise the amount of water that will be taken on in such an event and to allow for the largest possible cargo. The bow is shaped so as to maximise the ship's ice-breaking ability, curving to push broken ice from in front. Nonetheless, we cannot guarantee the hull will hold up in thick pack ice, and we advise a specialised icebreaker such as Maritime Imperial's Argalium-class for this role.

Under Maltropian maritime law, we are obliged to conform with WA GAR #20, Suppress International Piracy. For this purpose, the Sejanus comes equipped with three fixed-mount water cannons to deter pirates or other attackers, and two weapons lockers are located at opposite ends of the ship for defensive purposes. The standard purchase model of the Sejanus comes with cutting-edge navigational equipment and two lifeboats, each capable of holding up to 20 passengers. Purchase cost, without extras, is 85 million NSD.

Optional extras include the addition of three fixed rotary cranes, spaced evenly along the length of the vessel, to assist in the unloading process. Purchasing the vessel with cranes will add an additional 4 million NSD to the price. A schematic of a crane-equipped Sejanus is available here.

Dear sir,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Keith Mulcahy, and I am contacting you in my capacity as CEO of Maltropia's leading civilian shipwrights' firm, Maritime Imperial. I wish to extend my warm and cordial regards for your previous communication with our firm, and express my sincere gratitude for your custom.

I wish to address your request for the establishment of 10 shipyards within your respected nation. I must initially inform you that no more than four of these are likely to be developed as actual shipbuilding facilities, whereas the remainder will be predominantly ship maintenance and repair due to the current low rate of demand in your nation. Naturally we expect this to increase with time, and over the next 5 years will continue to evaluate the economic aspects of expanding production within the previously requested shipyards.

In summary, I have approved your application, and you may expect Maritime Imperial's officials to arrive within your nation in the near future to determine locations. I look forward to a prosperous partnership.
Regards,
Keith Mulcahy,
Chief Executive Officer

Re: Shipyard Development

NATION: THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF WEST FARALLONES
NUMBER OF SHIPYARDS: 1

Dear Mr. Mulcahy,

We are a small, developing island nation with a long seafaring tradition. As we are relatively underdeveloped, however, we do not currently have a strong heavy industry sector. Given our historical focus on the sea and the associated maritime industries, a company such as Maritime Imperial would be greatly welcome. Moreover, the West Farallones government believes that development of a shipyard at this time would also greatly benefit Maritime Imperial.

The Island of Vizcaino, the largest of the West Farallones, is over 50,000 sq. km. and home to a large deep water port. As there is currently no heavy industry on Vizcaino, Maritime Imperial will have the opportunity to develop a shipyard in the most advantageous way, making siting decisions without concern over encroachment from other industrial developments or urban population centers. We are seeking the development of only one shipyard at this time as we want to ensure that we can meets the needs of Maritime Imperial. We will, however, be open to the development of additional yards once the local infrastructure is in place.

West Farallones is located in a remote section of the East Pacific in the Pacific Islands region. While there are not many trading partners close by, West Farallones is situated near sea routes and is well situated to serve much of the Pacific and the West Coast of North America.

Further, recognizing that one of the current nations that supported Maritime Imperial shipyards has ceased to exist, this may be a time for Maritime Imperial to continue with its expansion.

The Federal Republic of the West Farallones hopes that Maritime Imperial will seriously consider this request. If any further information is required please feel free to contact me directly

Respectfully,

Vicente Palmer

The Panthus-class multirole sea-going tugboat and marine retrieval vessel is a unique product on the international market. The design was originally drafted in 1974 for the Maltropian Royal Navy, and was built to tow aircraft carriers and other large vessels without the operating costs of their nuclear reactors. In 1979, Tallaght Allied Petroleum submitted a request for a specially-designed ship capable of manoeuvring drilling platforms to their destinations and of retrieving objects resting on the seabed. An unusual combination of tasks, it proved a challenge for Maritime Imperial's engineers until the schematic for the navy tug was suggested as a model. All consequent commissions have incorporated both roles. In 2015, the design underwent a substantial reconfiguration to include additional cranes and cargo space.

The Panthus is larger than most tugboats, being designed primarily for use at sea rather than in harbours. A length of almost 70 metres provides ample room for its large engines which facilitate the movement of oil rigs and aircraft carriers, as well as leaving ample room for a hold for objects that may be recovered by its crane. The superstructure, wrapped around the engines' smokestack, houses crew accommodation as well as a high-tech sonar system to allow both accurate positioning of the towed object and to enable the crew to determine the precise location of objects on the seafloor which are the intended target of retrieval procedures.

To this effect, the crane, positioned roughly 30 metres from the stern, is fully equipped for marine retrieval in any conditions. The equipment is remotely operated from the superstructure to prevent adverse weather conditions from negatively impacting its operational efficiency. It boasts sufficient length of wire to safely retrieve objects from a depth of 180 metres, with an absolute design maximum of 200 metres. We advise against deploying the crane in rough seas in the event that the weight of an object being reclaimed, combined with the rocking motion of the sea, leads to the capsizing of the vessel. In general, however, the Panthus' ballast and balance countermeasures are sufficient to minimise the risk of such an eventuality. Other protective measures include a reinforced hull to allow the Panthus to push through icy waters, though for thick pack ice we would we advise a specialised icebreaker such as Maritime Imperial's Argalium-class.

Obviously the most important aspect of a tugboat is its engine capacity, which must be maximised to allow the moving of large loads and yet sufficiently realistic to fit within a small vessel such as the Panthus. The ship, therefore, is outfitted with two Enmar Industries DN-50 diesel engines, producing as much as 25,000 shp (19 MW) under normal operating conditions.

Under Maltropian maritime law, we are obliged to conform with WA GAR #20, Suppress International Piracy. For this purpose, the Panthus comes equipped with two fixed-mount water cannons to deter pirates or other attackers, and a weapons locker is located onboard the ship for defensive purposes. The standard purchase model of the Panthus comes with cutting-edge navigational equipment, including sonar, and a lifeboat capable of holding up to 14 passengers. Purchase cost, as standard, is 9 million NSD.

Commerce Secretary

Dear sir,
Please allow me to introduce myself.

I wish to address your request for the establishment of one shipyard within your respected nation. Coming from a strong seafaring tradition here in Maltropia, I readily appreciate the reasoning behind your invitation. The absence of supporting industries on Vizcaino comes as a surprise, and certainly makes the matter more difficult to plan out. However, this should not pose too much of a problem; the presence of a major port nearby should enable us to import the necessary materials, though this will of course lead to an increase in production costs. We expect that our presence will lead to the establishment of the necessary facilities before too long, of course, so the situation will most likely remedy itself within a relatively short space of time. I sincerely hope our setting up on Vizcaino will bring great economic benefits to your nation, as I am confident it will be a good investment from our perspective. As you have said, we will, over the next 5 years, continue to evaluate the economic aspects of expanding production within your esteemed nation, should the level of demand merit it.

The geographical position of your nation is not of any great concern to us, as we will most assuredly be able to procure the necessary supply contracts regardless of location. Being in an insular locality and more favourable climate will, furthermore, provide us ample room to test the effectiveness of our vessels in climes different to those which our vessels usually endure.

In summary, I have approved your application, and you may expect Maritime Imperial's officials to arrive within your nation in the near future to determine the location. The facilities should be in operation within the next 24 months if work proceeds according to our usual schedule. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. I look forward to a prosperous partnership.
Regards,
Keith Mulcahy,
Chief Executive Officer

Dear Mr. Mulcahy,

On behalf of the people of Vizcaino I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maritime Imperial for agreeing to develop a construction facility within our Island.

While we anticipate smooth development of this very important project, I thought it important to notify you of certain requirements of doing business within the Island of Vizcaino.

First, we will need to have Maritime Imperial register with the Vizcaino Secretariat of Corporations. Although corporate registration will be the first requirement, Vizcaino will ultimately require Maritime Imperial to register with the Secretariats of Taxation, Labor and Employment, Development, and, because this development will border a navigable body of water, the Secretariat of Fisheries and Waterways. Your first contact with most of these Secretariats can be arranged through the Office of the Attorney General and we will be glad to help you navigate the sometimes onerous, but necessary, regulations.

I did also want to remind you that in addition to registering with the various Island Secretariats, Vizcaino will require an environmental impact study to ensure that any development will not have a deleterious impact on either the land or marine environments.

Again, I want to welcome Maritime Imperial to the Island of Vizcaino and want you to know that I or someone from my office will be available to assist you and Maritime Imperial as it moves through the development process.

If you are ever in Nuevo Santander please come see me, I look forward to meeting you.

Respectfully,

Reginald Argenta

Dear sir,
Thank you for your continued correspondence. It is a pleasure for Maritime Imperial to be able to establish a presence in Vizcaino, and we anticipate it will be a highly successful venture. I am grateful for your notification of the requirements to our presence in your esteemed nation. We are quite used to dealing with regulations from our other international operations, though Maltropia's own such requirements are usually rather lax or nonexistent. I assure you that, as a major firm in a highly competitive market, Maritime Imperial always does its utmost to maintain high standards. This includes great concern for the environments in which we operate and for the quality of life our employees receive. I can promise you we will keep to the requirements you outline, and I openly recognise that it is in our interests to do so.

As I have said before, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any further comments or questions. I continue to look forward to a prosperous partnership.

Finally, a shipwrights storefront that doesn't just sell militarized vessels!

We're definitely taking strong interest in this operation. We would like to purchase two Hellespont-class container ships, and (if possible) pre-order three Argalium-class icebreakers.

We'd also like to establish three Maritime Imperial shipyards in our nation; one in the capital city of Matauapoli, one in Mayberry, and one in Blue Shore.

Nation name: The United Socialist States of New Matawan
Number of shipyards: 3

We're looking forward to doing business in the future. :)

Dear sir,
Please allow me to introduce myself.

I wish firstly to address your request for the establishment of 3 shipyards within your respected nation. I am pleased to inform you that, despite the present low level of demand in your nation, as you have requested a comparatively small number of shipyards all of these are likely to be developed as actual shipbuilding facilities. Naturally we expect demand to increase with time as our reputation builds in your nation, and over the next 5 years will continue to evaluate the economic aspects of expanding production and/or the number of shipyards.

I wish now to address your application to purchase 2 Hellespont-class container ships from Maritime Imperial. It is my regret to say that, at this time, the Hellespont has not been made available for export as we are only just beginning international operations. While we prepare to make this class available, I would encourage you to consider purchasing our Sejanus-class vessel. Though of a substantially smaller size, we believe they will adequately serve your needs. Should you wish to pursue this route, we will leave open the option to return the vessels to Maritime Imperial for an 80% refund on release and subsequent purchase of the Hellespont. I hope this offer appeals to you.

Finally, as regards your request to pre-order Maritime Imperial's Argalium-class icebreaker, I would be delighted to accommodate you. Upon release of the vessel for export you will be immediately contacted and granted a 5% discount for your interest in what we consider to be one of our finest products.

In summary, I have approved your shipyard application, and you may expect Maritime Imperial's officials to arrive within your nation in the near future to determine specific locations. All these facilities should be in operation within the next 24 months if work proceeds according to our usual schedule. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. I look forward to a prosperous partnership.

Whoops, typo. I meant to say Sejanus-class in the first place. I apologize for the confusion.

Dear sir,
Thank you for your continued correspondence. I apologise, but this letter will be brief as it is simply a matter of clarification.

Your request for 2 Sejanus-class container ships has been approved in full. Production of the specified vessels will begin immediately in our international shipyards, and you may expect the arrival of your order, in its entirety, within three months. Delivery will be accompanied by an escort of Maltropian naval vessels to negate any risk of piracy en route.

The gross price of your order comes to 170,000,000 NSD. All shipping costs are covered courtesy of Maritime Imperial. Please deposit full payment with our banking partner, Aire Banking, within 2 weeks of this date.

The Argalium-class nuclear icebreaker and marine research vessel is a vital asset for keeping sea-lanes clear of ice. The design was commissioned by the Viceroyalty of the Maltropian Islands in 1994, and entered into service in 1996 clearing the busy shipping lanes between Argensborough and mainland Maltropia. It is also capable of filling a role, by design, as a marine research vessel, with sophisticated monitoring and sonar systems coming as standard. This dual-function nature allows it to be used year round, even in the summer months, in either of its roles.

Because its icebreaking role causes the hull to come into regular hard physical contact with thick ice, the Argalium has both an outer and inner hull. The outer hull is 45 mm thick, and the inner 20 mm; both are made of reinforced steel manufactured to resist cold waters by the Norn Ironworks. The thin space between the hulls is used for ballasting, as the vessel's design makes navigating in open waters more difficult than for most ship types. The bow is shaped in such a way as to maximise the Argalium's icebreaking ability, causing the front of the vessel to push onto ice and break it under the ship's weight. A curved bow shape facilitates the ice being pushed to one side once it is broken to leave a path clear for ships following.

Because of the power necessary for pushing through sea ice, the Argalium is powered by two Enmar Industries NK-D500 pressurised water nuclear reactors, providing a total propulsive force of 65,700 ship horsepower or 49 megawatts under normal operating conditions. Two propellers located aft, behind the rudder, provide the ship's movement capacity. In addition to this, a third, smaller propeller is located under the Argalium's bow, allowing the ship to reverse in the event that it becomes stuck.

The ship's nuclear reactors require a large crew to operate, which means that the vessel has higher operating costs than are standard for Maritime Imperial's vessels. Nevertheless, the ship maintains the efficiency that is our hallmark, requiring only 95 crew where most other ships of similar design would require more. This is as a result of a high level of mechanisation in all aspects of the Argalium's running, while maintaining comparative accessibility for repairs, which we recommend be conducted at any registered Maritime Imperial shipyard to ensure smooth operation and a long service life. Assuming regular maintenance, the vessel has an estimated service life of 30 years, though certain components, particularly around the reactors, may require replacement prior to this time. Oceanographic and surveying equipment requires regular maintenance and recalibration, and for optimal performance we advise customers to attend Maritime Imperial's own facilities.

The suite of surveying equipment that comes as standard on the Argalium is produced by our established partners and is the finest the industry has to offer. It includes three echo sounder systems by Kilmonava Engineering: the 24MB multibeam echo sounder, a wide-band, high-resolution shallow water echo sounder with an operating range between 200 and 400 kHz, mounted on a retractable hydraulic ram; the 30SE single-beam echo sounder which operates in three frequency ranges; and the 10SE single-beam echo sounder which operates at 100 kHz. These latter two are both viable for use either as depth-sounders or for side-scan sonar and can be towed behind the ship. The ship also carries a towable sub bottom profiler, Nodons Aquanautics' SBP100M, and seabed sampling equipment including a range of grabs and corers operated from a moveable winch system; as well as a 24-cylinder CTD rosette, acoustic Doppler sound profiler and other standard equipment. The vessel furthermore comes furnished with one dry lab, which functions as the base of operations for the electronic equipment, and two wet lab facilities. It has accommodation for up to thirty researchers in addition to its full-time crew.

Under Maltropian maritime law, we are obliged to conform with WA GAR #20, Suppress International Piracy. For this purpose, the Argalium comes equipped with four fixed-mount water cannons to deter pirates or other attackers, and several weapons lockers are located onboard the ship for defensive purposes. The standard purchase model of the Argalium comes with cutting-edge navigational equipment, including sonar, and four lifeboats capable of holding up to thirty passengers each. Purchase cost, as standard, is 78 million NSD.
