Besides for the odd person claiming it to not be natural. No, no there isn't. Even the natural theory doesn't hold up because there is evidence that a number of animals do participate in homosexual activity. There was a story done by the young Turks about gay fish a few months ago.

Gay Marriage: Edward Leigh Fears The 'Merciless Prism Of Equality'

Conservative MP Edward Leigh attacked plans to allow gay people to marry on Tuesday fearing the "merciless prism of equality", much to the confusion of those watching the Commons debate.

The debate on the government's same-sex marriage bill has exposed deep divisions within the Conservative Party on the issue, with some of the most pro-gay marriage and anti-gay marriage speeches coming from the same side of the House.

Leigh said that while people should be treated with tolerance, MPs had to be "very careful that law and reality do not conflict".

"We have to get away from the idea that every single thing in life can be forced through the merciless prism of equality," he said.

He added: "We should be concerned with equality, but not at the expense of every other consideration, not at the expense of tradition."

Leigh also said that marriage was "profoundly pro-woman" as it was "generally men who have the propensity to want to wander off into other relationships" leaving them "holding the baby".

To which another MP responded: "Speak for yourself."
ask moderation about reading serious moderation candidates TGs without telling them about it until afterwards and/or apparently refusing to confirm/deny the exact timeline of TG reading ~~~ i hope you never sent any of the recent mods or the ones that got really close anything personal!

signature edit: confirmation has been received. they will explicitly do it before and without asking. they can look at TGs basically whenever they want so please keep this in mind when nominating people for moderator or TGing good posters/anyone!

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Thankfully, similarly to in Britain, same-sex marriage in Canada is such a 'settled issue' that actively re-opening the debate as a party policy would probably send the current majority Tory government spiralling off into a ditch, whereupon it would roll feebly over and burst into flames.

No the reason that gay-marriage is a threat to marriage in the traditional sense is that as soon as it has wound its way through the Lords and become law there will be a rash of divorces among campaigners against gay marriage as they or their partners or both rush off to marry the same sex person of their dreams.

It really ought to be obvious :p

So we should only be concerned with equality if it doesn't conflict with tradition?
And if inequality is traditional, we should just shut up an accept it?
Good grief, only a Troy could come up with the sentence. Send those children back down the mines and take the vote away from those womenfolk again.
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

Sexism.

Remember that traditional marriage is a gendered hierarchy; gay marriage disrupts that. If two men marry, then how will we know which one is supposed to stay home and clean things??? If two women marry, how will we know which one of them "wears the pants"???

It also undermines the traditionalist narrative that men and women are bound together out of dependence. This is sometimes referred to as "complimentarianism," and basically is the idea that men are innately incapable of some things and women are innately incapable of other things and therefore a man MUST have a woman-partner and a woman MUST have a man-partner. (Of course there are plenty of heterosexuals who disprove this mythology, but gay couples really put the nail in the coffin.)

Two men making a life together, keeping a happy home, doing their own laundry, nurturing children, etc., prove that men CAN clean up after themselves and be tender caregivers. Two women making a life together, paying their bills, fixing their own cars, being beautiful for each other and not for the benefit of a male viewer, etc., prove that women CAN support themselves and protect themselves. So when sexists try to insist that Men Just Are one way and Women Just Are another way, gay couples are rather a problem.

There are more related reasons, like the motivation to keep women pregnant and occupied with childcare in order to keep them busy and out of the way, but most of that stuff is just offshoots of these general principles.
