Restrict Pornography

Postby Sypian » Tue Jan 05, 2010 6:19 pm

There should only be soft porn ,maybe by a fireplace or in the bedroom with the lights on low ,or by a candle light dinner on the nice carpeted floor. The rest should be banned/barred.

Yes, because censorship is awesome and sex is terrifying!

While I find hardcore porn unappealing, I don't feel it should be banned.

There is a problem with porn, it has effects on the brain that might be considered damaging, then again I could say the same about a lot of things we don't ban.

http://www.drjudithreisman.com/archives/brain.pdf

Essentially, the brain likes pornography, very much so, and unless there's an inhibitor such as, say, religion or a certain moral code - and the brain likes guilty pleasures as well so inhibitors aren't always a defense - then there's the danger of addiction. It's an increasing danger given availability.

The ease at which you light up pleasure centres can be similar to a drug, and coupled with the ease of obtaining it now, the danger is that people are addicted to porn to the detriment of forming real relationships.

Still, one could say this about making model airplanes to some extent, any obsessive behaviour can be an issue but since porn has such a lighting effect on the pleasure centres, it makes it a little more dangerous than most.

Really, lapdance clubs have been shown to increase incidents of rape around the location, this idea that pornography quells sexual urges...

Possibly fair enough, but then I wasn't really claiming initially that porn increases rape, merely that it causes an addiction to porn, perhaps the rape decreases since they can hardly get out of the house.

I'll look into it, happy to accept the findings you quoted.

As a recovering porn addict, I have suggested several solutions to this situation. The easiest and most effective would be to create a new .XXX top level domain (TLD). Then all of the porn sites would be moved there and would have unrestricted levels of activity within that domain. All other porn in any other TLD would be prosecuted harshly.

This makes it extremely simple for TLD level domain filters to be utilized, thereby effectively restricting pornography.
