Seekers Of Infinity [Expired]

Intro

Several millenia ago, on times immemorial, our predecessors, the Humans, were driven away from their ancestral home, the holy realm of Iak'Thea by an inexorable force. They were forced to abandon the first and last Iak'Thean citadel, Cathedral Gaea, and scatter amongst the stars. And so, as nomads they lived, jumping from land to land, taking what they could, and spreading chaos in the universe with their world-shattering conflicts.

Then He, the God-Knight, Aradain, came, and showed Humans the errors of their ways. He showed them the correct path. He forced them to see the havoc they were causing, and gave them a choice: Instead of obliterating all that existed around them in their mad, blind fury, they could prove who deserved victory, not through force, but through skill. The God-Knight put an end to an era of destruction, and under His guidance, Humanity changed. They became stronger. They became wiser. They became better.

They became us.

But you already knew that.

Perhaps you also know that it is said that, in His last day as a mortal being, the God-Knight shed His own blood to atone for the sins of Humanity, and His blood was collected on an argent chalice. He then ascended, and the chalice was lost, or so the legend goes.

But, what if I told you that the Lost Chalice truly exists?

This is why I have called you. A new era is coming, and the Lost Chalice is of vital importance, not just to me or you, but to all of the Redemit.

Come to Cathedral Kaineroth on the seventh day of Galthin, during the seventh hour. Go to the Spiral Garden. My servant will meet you there. Embark on this quest, and if you succeed, young one, I promise you heaven itself.

-Aurex Rasgaluz Pandracon I of the Phantom Blade

So this is my RP! You can check out a pre-thread discussion here. We will be playing as soldiers from different Orders allied with the Phantom Blade (Or members of this Order if you want) who have received this message and have accepted the mission. Now let's learn more about the world shall we?

The Redemit

The Redemit are to the Universe (Or what is known of it) what Humans are to Earth. There are parts of it not yet known, and not all of it is civilized territory, but it is unquestionable that the Redemit are the dominant species of the Known Universe.

The Redemit are nearly identical to Humans in appearance. However, they are superior in many ways, having evolved from them throughout their existence. For example, the longevity of Humans is nothing compared to that of the Redemit. The Redemit live about ten times as much as a normal Human would. They are also stronger, faster, more agile, have better reflexes, resistant to disease and natural regeneration than Humans.

So, in short, they are a race that has evolved in such way that they are basically Humans, but much better.

The Time

Time for the Redemit runs in a way similar to ours. Time has been standarized throughout the Known Universe, and a 'day' is still 24 hours. However, naturally, there are some differences. The Redemit have 'cycles' instead of weeks. Cycles are eleven days each, and the days of the cycle are named after the lost Cathedrals of Iak'Thea:

-Day of Marcuth
-Day of Vaenn
-Day of Gaea
-Day of Mareth
-Day of Harepter
-Day of Zethor
-Day of Oranum
-Day of Nepenth
-Day of Palthorn
-Day of Selnis
-Day of Elisol

There are still months, but they have certain differences. One month is four cycles, which means that a month is 44 days. In a year, there are eight months, each named after the eight blades of the God-Knight Aradain:

-Kalibras
-Harndite
-Carnt
-Galthin
-Karanann
-Grysort
-Calforts
-Kalibar

The Cathedrals

The Cathedrals, which have been mentioned a few times already, are planetary citadels in which the Redemit live. These Cathedrals are called planetary for a reason: They're planets that have been colonized, terraformed and built upon to create fortified citadels in which they may live peacefully. A myriad of things protect them from the dangers of the Known Universe, including, but not limited to, their physical fortification, deflector shields, and, most importantly, enormous, vastly powerful cannons called the Eyes of Aradain.

The number of Cathedrals is uncertain, since it changes constantly, with some being abandoned and others being built by the different Orders.

The Orders

In this setting, there are no republics, kingdoms, etc. Instead, we have the Orders, organizations that protect and maintain peace and order in their territory. The number of Orders is uncertain, but it stands to reason that every Order must have at least one Cathedral under their control, to serve as their headquarters. There are, of course, exceptions. Entire Orders composed of allied Knight-Errants do exist, however uncommon. The command structure varies from Order to Order, as some are ruled by a council while others are ruled by a single person who holds power over the entirety of the Order. Sometimes, these Orders go to war with each other, whether to demonstrate superiority, gain territories, or something else. However, they honor the teachings of the God-Knight Aradain, keeping their battles away from the Cathedrals, instead battling in open space or in untamed territories.

Technology

The technology of the Redemit is incredibly advanced, to the point of being mind-boggling sometimes. However, all of this technology has only advanced in certain areas, while others have been abandoned altogether. A good example is transport, which has benefitted greatly from technology. Flying vehicles take people from one point in a Cathedral to another in a matter of minutes at most. The Chariots, composed of a large compartment for passengers which is pulled by a small and swift craft, ferry civilians from one Cathedral to another, crossing the black void of space. Knights and Mages, meanwhile, ride their Pegasii, flying personal vehicles with metallic wings that take them through the void, on which they joust, journey, fight and die. On the other hand, projectile and ranged weapons are, quite simply put, extinct.

More good examples are some things that have already been mentioned. The Cathedrals, for example, make great use of technology, and things such as timekeeping devices still exist. The Orders equip their soldiers with powerful tesselated armor and energy blades. Civilians who suffer accident during transport can survive in the void thanks to advanced bio-engineering.

But there is one other example, and perhaps the most important. But that is up to you to judge.

Magic

Magic is that example. Through extensive experimentation and bio-engineering, the Redemit managed to create incredibly complex, mind-boggling technology capable of manipulating a myriad of forces, and installed it into their very genes, thus giving them the potential for massive power. This massive power, this technology capable of manipulating the many forces of nature, is what is known as 'Magic'. As a result of their intensive experimentation and bio-engineering, the Redemit as a whole gained the power of Magic, and the potential for its use is latent in every Redemit in existence, though only through intensive training can this potential be unlocked.

Magic can manifest in a myriad of ways. Some Mages and Magus Ensis, for example, can manipulate different types of energy. The possibilities are nigh endless, but again, intensive training is required before one can wield the power of the Magic that the Redemit created after so long.

The Classes

The Knights: The Knights are the physical fighters of the Orders. They have superb physical condition, even by Redemit standards, and are immensely skilled in the art of swordfighting, as this is how they do battle with their enemies. They are equipped with energy swords, technological skeletons of actual swords that have the ability to project blades of energy to serve their purpose. Some of these swords possess AIs of their own, and most can be retrieved from their respective Hyperspace Storage Units by speaking a specific codeword, the sword's 'name'. They also bear armors that ressemble medieval knight armors, but with a more futuristic look. These armors are both incredibly strong and lighter than what you would think, and while they themselves cannot stop an energy sword, they project energy fields that counteract the blades of said swords, blocking them, protecting their wearer. The armors can also block some magic. These may manifest in different forms: Some act as 'tesselated' armor, spreading out from a small package and enveloping the user when needed, while others can be summoned much like the swords. Both the armors and the swords have a limited ammount of energy, but they can be recharged.

The Mages: Mages, as their name indicates, are those who have devoted themselves to the mastery of Magic. Through intensive training they have unlocked their magic potential as well as the energy necessary to make use of it. Despite what one would think, Mages do not bear weaker armor than their counterparts, the Knights, though sometimes they may draw upon the armor's energy instead of their own, thus depleting it quickly, and some Mage armors are subtly modified for the convenience of their wearers. In order to use Magic, a Mage must draw upon their own energy, thus, Mages have an incredible ammount of energy, though, as stated before, they may draw upon that of their armors as well. Mages do not utilize swords, instead relying on their Magic to combat the enemy. They can fight from up close as well as from afar, but usually Knights are better at the former, while Mages are better at the latter, thus Mages usually stay behind, though this is not always the case.

The Magus Ensis: The Magus Ensis are a mix between the two above classes. They use Knightly armor and swords, but they also have the power of Magic on their side. Naturally, they are not quite as good as a Knight in the art of swordfighting, nor are they as good as a Mage in the mastery of Magic, but they are adept at both. A great advantage of the Magus Ensis is that they can not only draw upon the energy of their armors, but also that of their swords, should the need arise. Their Magic, however, is not as strong as that of Mages, so doing this is unusual, except in desperate cases. They fight at an equal level both from afar and from up close.

Name: Aese Arcadius Alistar
Age: 367
Gender: Male
Appearance: Like this. He has piercing gray eyes that almost look like silver (But not quite), and has a small mark on his forehead, as well as his left shoulder: The mark of his Order (See Equipment section).
Class: Magus Ensis
Personality: Arcadius might appear as a serious person to those who don't know him, but once you get past that he is a fairly amicable person, protective of those around him, who holds things such as honor and loyalty in very high regard. He has his own set of morals by which he goes, most of which fit those of the Order of the Phantom Blade. He takes his job as an Aese of the Phantom Blade very seriously.
Skills/Knowledge: Arcadius is a great cook (And yes, people still need to eat in this setting) and possesses assorted survival skills. He also knows much about myths and legends.
Strenghts: Dexterous, strong, quite skilled in both of his arts, hard to wear down.
Weaknesses: A bit nearsighted in the figurative sense, not very swift, and his armor makes him a quite noticeable target.
Bio: During a dark night of Calforts, in the Day of Marcuth, Arcadius Alistar was born on Cathedral Kaineroth, where the headquarters of the Order of the Phantom Blade are. Since young, he was trained by his father, a Knight and an Aed of the Phantom Blade, the art of the sword. During his first and part of his second century alive he trained with the sword, becoming quite adept at it's usage. Eventually Arcadius, now turned into a strong Knight, was accepted into the Order of the Phantom Blade by the reigning Aurex, Lord Pandracon, as an Al, the lowest Knightly rank of the Order.

During the next phase of his life, he worked diligently for Lord Pandracon and the Order of the Phantom Blade, completing his missions as swiftly as possible, even when he was sent off to distant worlds and untamed lands. He had a clean record and was an exemplar Knight, for which he was ascended to an Aed, his father's rank, in half the time his father was. From there, he continued accomplishing his missions and achieving many things. Eventually, he was led to participate in open wars, both in space and in neutral grounds, conflicts in which the Order of the Phantom Blade came out victorious.

During his early third century, due to his exemplary conduct and his prowess, he was sent on a mission by Lord Pandracon himself, to hunt down a band of hostile soldiers who had kidnapped a supposed relative of the Aurex. Arcadius knew that, since this mission would lead him to the very edges of the Known Universe, he would not return home for a long time, but he also knew that he could not refuse a request made by the Aurex himself, and that, should he succeed, he would honor his family and bask in glory. Thus, he accepted, and the very next day he bade farewell to his friends and family, and set out in his Pegasus to traverse the stars.

The next fifty years, give or take, Arcadius was constantly on the move, hunting down the enemy soldiers, seeking out clues that would lead him to their location. However, every time they managed to escape. One day, amidst his frustration, Arkadis found a primitive derelict Chariot floating in space. These things were by no means a rarity, but what was indeed odd was that it seemed to be fully functional. Upon approaching, he noticed that the inside of the Chariot had been changed, and that a person appeared to be living there. This was an encounter that would change Arcadius' life.

For over half of his life, Arcadius had only known the way of the sword, and this was in part the reason his enemies had been able to escape from him time and time again. However, the person living in the Chariot, the hermit, helped him unlock his potential and achieve much energy. He taught him how to harness the power of Magic, and trained him in the art of Physicomaturgy. Arcadius did not spend a very long time with the hermit, but he learned enough. The next time he met his enemies, armed with his new abilities, they did not manage to escape. His mission was a success, after decades of effort. But his success was only partial, as the prisoner was no longer with them. From the soldiers he captured, though, he managed to find out where the Aurex' relative was being held.

Thus, he set out once again. Unfortunately for him, it turned out that the prisoner was being held in a fortified Cathedral of an enemy Order. Knowing better than to simply attempt to intrude, Arcadius was patient, and learned much of the routine of his enemy. In time, he managed to pose as one of them, and thanks to this, he continued learning about them, until finally the opportunity came and he managed to rescue the prisoner, fleeing the Cathedral in a stolen Pegasus, knowing that the enemy would not waste a shot of the Eye of Aradain for anything less than a supermassive meteorite, and confident that he could escape from their soldiers. He reached the place where he kept his own Pegasus, and ditched the stolen one, before continuing his escape.

Eventually, the enemy gave up, and Arcadius was free. He made his way back to Cathedral Kaineroth. The day he arrived, the fourth day of Kalibar, the Day of Mareth, a celebration was held, and Lord Pandracon ascended him to Aese, making him skip over several ranks and marking him as a trusted soldier of the Aurex. The Order of the Phantom Blade saw that he had unlocked the power of Magic, and though he was not yet strong with it, he showed promise. Thus, his training as a Magus Ensis began, by part of older, more experienced Aese of the Phantom Blade, who specialized in Magic.

For a long time, he continued training his Magic, his Physicomaturgy, with the other Aese of the Order of the Phantom Blade, and continued completing missions for the Aurex. Eventually, he was asked to embark on a special mission, with a group of soldiers from different Orders, by the Aurex himself. Knowing better than to refuse, he accepted once again. Which brings us to the seventh day of Galthin, in which he awaits for the others to come.
Equipment:
Sword: Arcadius wields the sword Ragnar, a sword with a great capacity for energy. It has a longsword configuration, meaning that the hilt is similar to that of a longsword and that a thin tube occupies the place where the blade would be, emitting 'blades' of red energy when activated. The sword possesses an AI of it's own, and is equipped with certain technology that allows Arcadius to channel some of his Magic through it.
Armor: Arcadius' armor, Eran (Note: The marks are not teal, but red). It bears the mark of the Order of the Phantom Blade (Fifth from top to bottom) on its back. It's quite pragmatic in it's design and, while it's useful in many ways, it is only an armor, no more, no less.
Magic: Arcadius' Magic, Physicomaturgy, is a type of Magic that encompasses many things. Arcadius has the ability to, at least to a certain degree, control energy and matter. While this is a very wide type of Magic, it is not quite as strong as if it were focused on something more specific (For example, Light Magic). However, it is still quite powerful and useful in more ways than one, specially for Arcadius. It is activated through certain symbols.
Pegasus: Arcadius' mount, his Pegasus, Ardal, is a wheel-less black vehicle similar to a hoverbike. It has two thrusters below it, and one on it's back, as well as one on each wing. The wings are fashioned after bat wings, black as the rest of the vehicle, and at the front of the vehicle one can see the emblem of the Order of the Phantom Blade.
Additional Information: Not really.

Name: Alaxyl
Age: 271
Gender: Female
Appearance: Here.
Class: Mage
Personality: Alaxyl is friendly and cheerful. Perhaps eccentric by other people's standards, though this is only as a result of her upbringing as a part of the Abyssmals. She appears to be a carefree woman, and a bit careless as well. She is quite positive and enjoys using her powers as a Mage of the Void. That she uses them the most in the name of her Order is simple coincidence.
Skills/Knowledge: Alaxyl is quite skilled in the repairing and maintenance of various technological constructs, most notably Pegasii, even though she herself does not possess one of them.
Strenghts: Swift, agile, energetic and perspicacious. Also a great Mage.
Weaknesses: Rather weak, tends to stay on the sidelines, and while her Magic is strong, it takes time to activate.
Bio: The members of the Order of the Void, as well as all those living under their protection in their only citadel, Cathedral Vorago, are all members of a very isolated culture. These Abyssmals, as they are collectively called, rarely make contact with the rest of the Redemit of the Known Universe, with the exception of their few allies, and as such, even though they do share many things with the rest of the Redemit, many of their customs, traditions, and such are unique to them.

On the twelfth day of Carnt, the second Day of Marcuth of that month, Alaxyl was born, brought to this world by the Abyssmals of Cathedral Vorago. Alaxyl grew up happily, in a serene environment, spending time with the other Abyssmals, being educated and learning the Abyssmals' customs and traditions. It was in this manner that Alaxyl spent her childhood, as well as the better part of her first century of life.

However, when she reached a certain age, Alaxyl, along with all those of her generation, were brought together by the Order of the Void. The soldiers of the Order put the youths through a series of tests through which they intended to ascertain who was best suited to be a Knight, who was best suited to be a Mage, and who was best suited to be a Magus Ensis. Alaxyl went through the tests and, needless to say, she excelled at the tests related to the Mage class.

After the tests were over, the youths were told their results and asked if they wanted to form part of the Order of the Void, in order to serve Cathedral Vorago and the Abyssmals, as well as to furthen their training. Many accepted, and many declined, as always. Alaxyl was one of the ones who accepted the offer, and went to form part of the Order of the Void as a Mage apprentice.

For several more decades, Alaxyl unlocked her potential and harnessed her energy under the tutorship of the Mages of the Order of the Void, getting through the rigors of her Mage training, which were only accentuated by the fact that the Magic she was practicing was none other than Void Magic, a rather dangerous and demanding type of magic. However, regardless of this, Alaxyl amply surpassed all of the obstacles that were put before her, working hard and training harder, even though she had to go through life-threatening experieences on a daily basis.

Now, perhaps one might underestimate the experiences Alaxyl went through, given her personality. But something that one has to understand about the Abyssmals is that they are strong people, in more ways than just one. Alaxyl was no exception to this. She was strong, and carried on through her training without letting its harshness make a single crack in the cheery attitude that had accompanied her through life.

Not long after she had entered her third century of life, Alaxyl was finally ascended to a full Mage of the Void by the reignant council of the Order of the Void. She was one of the few people who had accepted to join the Order of the Void and had managed to get through the training without dropping out or dying. That year, like all other years in which a generation 'graduates' from their training, a festival was held, in order to honor both those who had graduated and those who had fallen along the way.

After that, came the last step before Alaxyl could assume her place as a Mage of the Order of the Void. Though she had attained her rank already, she would not be allowed to serve the Order until she carried out a special mission, a tradition that stood strong as the generations passed. This tradition, this special mission, consisted on her being sent far away to hunt a powerful creature somewhere in the untamed lands of the Known Universe, using only her Void Magic, and to bring back proof that the beast had been defeated, a mission that was meant to test her intelligence, her power and her control once and for all.

Alaxyl's last test and first mission led her to an uncolonized planetoid near the center of the Known Universe, fit for life, yet untouched by the hands of the Redemit. It was there that she found the prery she was to hunt, the monster she had to slay without destroying it. The entirety of the mission took her several months. During the first few, she spent her time avoiding the monster and observing it from a distance, learning about it, as well as about her surroundings. After that, she passed to a more active phase, taking care of certain things and setting up a trap for the monster. Finally, the time came to do or die, and after a tiring chase and a few moments of improvisation, Alaxyl managed to trump the beast, taking one of its horns as a proof of her victory.

Having accomplished her mission, Alaxyl was at last allowed to serve the Order of the Void. Since then, she has served her Order faithfully, enjoying the power of the Void. During her time serving the Order of the Void, she has gone on several missions and fought many enemies, even on one occasion having to assist in driving away an invading Order.

Recently, a message from the Arex of the Order of the Phantom Blade himself reached her. After running it through the reignant council, it was decided that, given that the Order of the Phantom Blade was one of the few allies of the Order of the Void, they should not ignore Pandracon's summons. Thus, she was sent to Cathedral Kaineroth.
Equipment:
Armor: Alaxyl's armor, Seyser, is like this, though it is blue and black instead of red and white. The armor has thrusters in both the feet and hands, and in addition the gauntlets also possess a grapling hook each, which launches from their wrists. She also has a shield like the one in the image, called Grear. Both the shield and the armor bear the symbol of the Order of the Void (Bottom one). In the armor, the symbol is visible on the chest. The armor is made to be able to traverse open space with ease, without the necessity for a vehicle such as a Pegasus.
Magic: Alaxyl's Magic, called 'Void Magic' by her people, is a powerful type of Magic that deals with one of the four fundamental forces, gravity. Through her Void Magic, Alaxyl has the power to alter and control gravity and bend it to her will, though her magic usually takes some time to activate. As it is quite powerful, Void Magic can be dangerous to utilize, since it also deals with high quantities of energy. It is activated through voice and passcodes.
Additional Information: Nah.

English grammar doesn't deserve respect.

It does, however, require tolerance as a necessary evil. :p

You're not even active in Echoes anymore. I'm not sure if I can trust you.

You can't trust anyone these days.

I dropped out because of final exams, and thought it would be rude to ask to rejoin.

Trust me or not, but it seems petty to refuse entrance for dropping out of one RP for legitimate reasons.

You never dropped out, so much as disappear, which irks me greatly. Legitimate or not, you could have dropped a word or two. Regardless, given the specifications I placed in my post in Echoes you are technically not invited. But I guess I could see what you have to offer one more time if you want to join.

I really did think that I had posted about dropping out due to finals, but perhaps that slipped my mind as well.

But no thank you, it's quite obvious that you don't want me to participate so I'll kindly excuse myself.

How much weaker is a Magus Ensis compared to a full Mage? And how powerful can they get?

Let's use percentages here. A Knight can reach 100% skill in combat. A Mage can reach 100% skill in Magic. A Magus Ensis has to spread 100% between both combat and Magic. So it could be 50/50, 25/75 or, in extreme cases, 90/10. Of course they can push beyond that and manage, say, 30/80, thus raping percentages, just like a Mage can go 120% or some shit.

That help? Or am I just spouting nonsense here? :P.

.......I'mma make two apps, but if one ends up slacking behind on me posting on them or something, feel free to like, kill them or something :P

Assuming that's fine with you.

Blame your self-control, not me. :P.

And that's fine. But try to avoid making me have to kill them or something.
