Mission Statement
The Union of German Nations is an alliance of German-speaking and/or German-influenced nations. Through the UGN, or to use its German name and henceforth its official name, the VDL, it is hoped that all German nations can come together as one (Einigkeit), dealing with one another on fair and equal terms, respecting sovereignty and national rights (Recht) and defending one another's independence (Freiheit).
Rights of Member Nations
Through the VDL, all German nations* can expect their needs to be attended to; all German nations can expect defence when they are attacked; all German nations can expect assistance when they are laid low by disaster; all German nations can expect a voice.
The VDL will consist of, when its membership grows, a mutual-defence treaty pledging all members to aid any others when they are attacked, a governmental system allowing members to have a voice within the VDL and express their views and annual summits in order to assess and co-ordinate the Union's work and progress.
Responsibilities of Member Nations
In order to become party to these rights, however, members also have responsibilities. These will later be finalised in a Constitution drawn up by members of the VDL. At this stage, however, the following shall be considered the duties of members of the VDL:
- VDL members shall defend other VDL members who are attacked when called upon to do so by a meeting of senior members.
- VDL members shall all contribute militarily and financially to both the VDL and any economic packages sent to members in need of aid.
- VDL members shall receive representation within the VDL proportional not to the size of their contributions, but to the size of their contributions relative to their own size. This means that the smallest members, if they give what they can, will be represented accordingly.
- VDL members, by joining the VDL, pledge not to engage in combat against one another; if war arises, the aggressor shall be ejected from the VDL and all other VDL members shall support the victim.
In addition to these duties, the Constitution can now be viewed below:
