Here we go again!

Hello, this is going to be my last editorial for the Gaveoan Times, but the good news is that now I am the coach of the Gaveoan National team! So this is my very first tournament and I am glad that it is here, in Valpomont. So enough of the introduction and lets get to the good stuff predictions...
Group A
Kintratar: A team that just recently beat us in the Friendly Cup, 1-0 and got fourth in the Baptism of Fire. I wonder why are facing them in this group... (Prediction: 2nd)
Gaveo: Good old Gaveo, our home. We got Sebastian, Santiago, Cesar, Bru, Lee, Joaquin we are a loaded team ready for war. (Prediction: 1st)
Yelvoldia: Not much is known about this team other than its tendency to be dangerous. (Prediction: 3rd)
Stauralas: Never heard of them, hope they farewell here. (Prediction: 4th)
Group B
Free Swiss States: We have faced them many times two time in the championships! 1-1. Hopefully we can face them. (Prediction: 2nd)
Amelio: A rival, we hope they fail. (Prediction: 3rd)
Anollasia: They wear here before did pretty good but this is the group of death. (Prediction: 4th)
Maklohi Vai: A strong team, I would be surprised if the didn't get first.
Group C
Estope: Being here many times haven't really made progress. Is this their year? (Prediction: 2nd)
Lymantatia: Number one team in this group. (Prediction: 1st)
Mollsamland: New team here, don't expect them to do well. But I could be surprised. (Prediction: 4th)
Bloodbath Generation: Dangerous team, but not dangerous enough. (Prediction: 3rd)
Group D
Silexhera: New country entering this cup, anyone's guess how far they can make it. (Prediction: 3rd)
Slembana: Most dangerous team here in the tournament. (Prediction: 1st)
Orange River Colony: New team but looks rather good. (Prediction: 2nd)
Dyurtenali Poksadam: Another new team... (Prediction: 4th)
And thats my prediction, hope every team proves my wrong and gets good luck. But as always go Gaveo!

John O B will serve Orange River Colony well.

It has just been revealed today that the Orange River Colony's football Federation has backed manager Jonathan Orwell Baxter to do well in the Copa Gaveo V. Mr. Baxter, or John O B as he is known to the fans, said that the Federation's comments were great news and that they have given him the confidence to do well. The team to play in the Copa Gaveo has also been released, all the usual starters have been called up, although target man Papa Boupa Kingsley has only managed to be on the bench for the Colony's first game.

Orange River Colony are an untested team, maybe this will work in their favour, as some teams may not be expecting the Colony to do well. The team's chemistry and work rate are high and everyone back home knows that they will do well. Everyone back in the Colony are supporting the players and the manager and as the famous chant goes,

"JOHN O B, JOHN O B, JOHN O, JOHN O B, NANANANANANANA!"

It has also been noted that Baxter had a very humble up bringing, as he was born and raised on a farm. This, of course, gave the fans an excuse to create another chant,

"JOHN O B'S FARMER ARMY.............JOHN O B'S FARMER ARMY"

With out a doubt we are sure that these famous and somewhat goofy chants will be shouted out by the Orange River Colony fans at the many games played during the Copa Gaveo V.

FSS Plays all-Historical Lineup
After a great debate about declining test scores and the like in the States, the Swiss government decided to encourage Swiss children to learn their history by using time-travel technology to bring back several famous historical European figures and get them to play some soccer. Included in the line-up are such geniuses as Augustus Caesar and Lord Admiral Nelson... it is hoped that their collective tactical genius will be able to make up for never having played soccer in their lives.

It is time for us to make our stand.

In a land dominated by badminton, tennis, and cricket, in a world known for its racket sports, in a place where football is looked down upon, we, the ones who have stood by the sport, have withstood all kinds of national ridicule and practiced our craft. There may not be a professional league just yet, but we are still playing for little money, sometimes no money, content to try our wits against each other.

And now, the time has come - a golden opportunity - to show that Dyurtenali football may yet matter. We may crash out and burn - this is the first time we are going to the international stage after all - but we will know that we have lost, fair and square, after pitting our wits against another team from another nation.

The Dyurtenali sports world is changing. We are the ones to institute the change. Perhaps one day, we won't be just watching the World Cup online via foreign news media trying to decipher what the hell they are saying.

The matches may not even be televised in our nation, but we don't care. We will be playing out there. For our nation.

Isn't that what really matters?

A brief history of Stauralas

Stauralas, supposedly the oldest nation in the NSverse, was formed out of the ashes of the Big Bang. Stausalas is on an island, in the Wild Sea, in the middlemost point of the NSverse, or as according to the Scholars of Dress, the oldest scholarly order in the Universe. There is no technical planet, continent or region which Stauralas resides in or on, but it is there nonetheless.

At the beginning of time, Stauralas was a young nation. Golden fields and sapphire seas surroudning it. Existence for its inhabitants was peaceful. There was no such thing as pain, as trouble, as strife. Life was simply never-ending bliss. Nobody died Stauralas. This might have been a problemn in the Modern Universal Period (MUP) but with so much of the Universe still nonexistent, Physics and time was still in the building phase. Some scholars believe that Stauralas was kept in perpetual time lock, and thus existed millions of years during the first few nanoseconds of the Universe.

As the Universe took its form, Stauralas was far ahead, with technology advancing faster and faster with each passing year. But with the advent of new technologies, came the advent of Evil. Before the Universe was complete, evil did not exist. Things did happen. Tsunmai Waves, Volcanoes and disease all happened, but they were just accepted, as nobody actually died. But as the rules and laws of the Universe took shape, death and pain became an option. Because of this, people also gained emotion. Something never before seen in the vast expanse of the Universe. More powerful than any missile or bomb. More devastating than any disease. As emotions spread, people got angry, They got jealous of things others had. People killed and died.

The utopia of Stauralas quickly turned sour and the first great Salas war, waged between the forces of Good and Evil. The Good forces were followers of love, peace and joy. Whilst those who followed the Evil were drawn by hate, jealousy and anger. The sides were lead, according to Scholar Majn (the oldest man in the world) by the Good and Evil spirits. The War lasted 10,000 years, as millions of soldier went toe-to-toe in the Valleys of Ejzah, in the east of Stauralas. Along with the forces of soldiers, millions of farmers, fishermen and bakers and butchers joined the conflict, fighting with whatever they could lay their hands on. The war laid waste to the once beautiful, fertile land. The green pastures were converted to barracks and workshops, employing all those who weren't fighting. The sapphire waters were turned red as epic sea battles were fought between the great navies.

Papa Boupa Kingsley not happy!

It has just been revealed today that striker Papa Boupa Kingsley is not happy with Baxter's decision to relegate him to the bench. Kingsley who has over 20 caps for the national side was infuriated at the choice made by Orange River Colony's manager. Kingsley has also scored 5 goals in international friendlies. It has also been speculated that Kingsley and Baxter exchanged heated words during training today, this has neither been confirmed or denied by the team. It will be interesting to see if Kingsley even manages to get off the bench in the coming matches!

In other news, our first match is against Slembana. They are a very good team, most bookmakers are predicting them to win the group. If we could even just win a point in this game then I'm sure the fans would be happy, as Slembana are very dangerous. A total of 10,00 fans have made the journey to see their nation play.

It has also been revealed that the Orange River Colony will be lead out of the tunnel by a bagpiper. For those who are rusty on their national history I will tell you that The Colony has strong Dutch and Scottish influences. I am sure that the piper will ignite pride and patrotism in the players and hopefully spur them on to grab some points.

Silexhera to take part in Cope Gaveo

Six years on after the last Cuppet, and a full fifty years since the Silexherans qualified for World Cup 48, the team once dubbed the Panthers - now going under the unofficial nickname of Los Toritos - will once again take the international football stage, taking part in the fifth annual Copa Gaveo.

Los Toritos have been drawn against at least one name that will be familiar to mainland Audioslavians, the same Val Kylx who terrorised the defences of Darmen and Audioslavia in the Cup of Harmony, yet strangely wasn't able to find the net against the group's lower seeds, Maklohi Vai and Geisenfried, hinting at the possibility that the star-man is prone to switch off in games against weaker teams.

A 'weaker team' is certainly a phrase that could describe the Silexherans in this tournament. The players are taken from around the Audioslavian amateur leagues, with a couple of Starblaydia-based Silexherans thrown in for good measure. Nevertheless, manager Seamus Eachtrannach is upbeating, stating he expects the little Bulls to at least fight for a place in the second round.

Elsewhere in the group, Silexhera come up against Dyurtenali Poksadam in matchday one, a team of Afrikaaners who are taking the world football stage for the first time after years of competitiveness in racket sports. Orange River Colony round off Group D, a team who reportedly play a similarly defensive brand of football to Silexhera, and will surely be a difficult obstacle to overcome.

Nevertheless, it is the Slembana game that the Silexherans will be most looking forward to, and the team will hope they are still in hunt for a top-two finish come the matchup on matchday three.

Amelio 2-1 Anollasia, that was the score of our first game in Copa Gaveo V, and boy was it a thriller, we won (as always) the last second with a goal bicycle kick from Nello Fantoni, but we can more in detail later, the first goal was struck by the Anollasians in the 24th, and it was a beauty a corner kick that was a goal with out a header or anything! It just went pass Marty Smith's hands. 6 minutes later Sebastian Bugatti scored the tying goal with a free kick. More minutes pass without any goals and very few oppertunities for both teams as the ball was usually stuck in the middle of the pitch. But at the 85th minute Nello Fantoni scores the game winner and with that we win our first game and get 3 points. Our next game is against Maklohi Vai, a team that recently won Friendly Cup 6.

"Hi, welcome back to the programme. The game between Orange River Colony and Slembana is well under way. The Estadio Cadiz being the venue, but the Colony end seems to be a little empty. Only 9,000 have bought tickets. We will, however, here from our reporter at the match, who is the one and only John McNaughton."

"Yes....Am....Am I on air?.......Oh I am, shit!......Excuse me, we...eh...were having a few...eh....technical difficulties. The latest from the Estadio Cadiz is that Slembana have just taken the lead! A grand ball was hooked in by Zorro Pullman, it sailed over the heads of Tubu and Raees. The danger man for Slembana, Val Kylx, got on the end of the cross and simply steered it home. A traditional strikers goal. 20 minutes gone here and Slembana are 1-0 up. Back to you."

"He really is one of a kind, is'nt he? Cutting edge reporting right there!"

*10 Minutes later*

"We will go back to Estadio Cadiz, John, anything happened?"

"Well, you have just missed what will surley be the goal of the tournament. Slembana work the ball from the back four, wearing down Orange River Colony. Maxet plays a hanging ball up to Kylx and he hits it on the half-volley. It sails past the defenders and nearly burst the net! What a goal! 2-0." Back to....hold on a minute, The Colony have managed to spring an attack on Slembana. Van Rijn is charging ahead, he plays it through to Schneider, who is forced out wide. Schneider plays a ball along the gound to.......goal! Its a goal! It was Barnsley! A great worked goal, Barnsley only had to steer the ball home. The Colony are back in it. 2-1. Back to you."

"It appears we will have an interesting game on our hands."

*60 minutes later*

"Back to the Estadio Cadiz, John?"

A pretty boring half, I must say. I though that the Colony may have mustered a come back, but it looks like Slembana will hold on. Interestingly though the goal scorer Barnsley has been taken off for none other than Papa Boupa Kingsley. We all know the speculation surrounding him. In fact here he is now, Kingsley has played the ball to Mateeba. Mateeba had done well to eveade the tackles, he is running down the wing, a good chance to cross and he does. And its Papa Boupa Kingsley with the header.....ahahaha! Its a goal! Its a goal! Kingsley has silenced his critics. 2-2 and a valuable point goes Orange River Colony's way. Oh my goodness! Back to you."

"Yes that is an invaluable point to The Colony, surely Slembana will be the more disappointed team. We will see you after the break."

Gaveo 3-2 Yelvoldia, this team that made it here for the first time give Gaveo the challenge of a lifetime, we scored first at the 7th minute with a goal from Sebastian Cadiz but Yelvoldia struck back with a goal from the 18th minute and another one in the 34th minute. But right when the halftime whistle was going to blow, Cesar Milano fresh off his Milano rehab, scores with a goal that curves pass the Yelvodian goalie. 2-2 halftime. Gaveo comes back with a roar as they almost made a goal 7 times in 20 minutes while Yelvodia almost makes a goal 4 times in 10 minutes but that all didn't matter as Santiago Rojas scored the game winner in the 76th minute with a free kick. So we won, 3-2 in the closest game I have seen since the Free Swiss game where we won 1-0. Our next game is against Stauralas. Go Gaveo!

DBK Sports - Football - Slembana 2-2 Orange River Colony

In our first game in Copa Gaveo V, we have drawn 2-2 with Orange River Colony. This is a disappointing start to the tournament, in our opinion, as we were the favourites to win.

We were dominant early on, with our brilliant star striker, Val Kylx, seeing a great lob palmed away by Orangian goalie Assamoa Imarika in the 15th minute. Jyvx Dagens, our attacking midfielder, hit the bar with one of his trademark free-kicks in the 26th minute, six minutes before Finlay Yalnif, our right-winger, saw a great volley from 25 yards hit the post. Despite our domination of the match, we fell behind in the 36th minute. Orangian midfielder Thomas Van Den Boore picked up the ball after a rare mistake by Zorro Pullman, our other attacking midfielder. Van Den Boore spotted striker Jeff Eindhoven, and played a great long ball down to him. Eindhoven skipped past Dennis Valfern, one of our centre-backs, before smashing a brilliant shot into the top corner of the net, comfortably beating our goalkeeper, Toby Gapman. This was a great goal, but it had put us 1-0 down. Boos and jeers rained down on our players as they walked off the pitch at half-time. Losing 1-0 at half-time to a team who are arguably worse than you is bad, obviously.

We started the second half brightly, testing Imarika with shots from almost every angle. However, despite our dominance, we couldn't grab an equalizer until the 64th minute. The scorer was Follin Maxet, our defensive midfielder. The 27 year-old picked up the ball in midfield, ran forward a bit, and smashed a 35-yard bullet shot into the top corner of Imarika. It was an excellent goal, and we had equalized. It was 1-1. Our fans roared with delight when the ball hit the net.

16 minutes later, a terrible backpass from Orangian centre-back Thabo Nhlanhla, which was intended for Imarika, instead found Kylx. The 21 year-old superstar bolted into the penalty box, before hammering a 20-yard shot past Imarika and into the corner of the net. The ball had zipped towards goal at a very quick speed, and, when it went in, the score was changed to 2-1 for us. We were winning, and only 10 minutes of the match were left. We just had to hold on for the last ten minutes to record a victory.

However, in the last minute, Kylx was caught offside. The indirect free-kick was taken by Imarika, who boomed it down the pitch to Eindhoven. Eindhoven volleyed the ball towards goal, only to hit the post. However, the ball fell to Joe Barnsley, Orange River Colony's other striker. Barnsley curled a fantastic shot into the top corner of Gapman's net, making it 2-2. The referee blew the final whistle as soon as the ball went in, and the Orangian fans roared with delight. Meanwhile, our fans booed our players off the pitch. It had not been the ideal start to the Copa Gaveo, but at least it wasn't the worst possible start.

Manager Rimolanao Lomokanapai was ejected in the 88th minute after fervently arguing what might have been the worst call in the history of sports. The referee called a foul on defender Wakoro Malaopani, but there were two issues:
1. Malaopani was not engaged with a Swiss player, nor active in the play
2. At the moment of the "foul," Malaopani was 15 feet outside the box, but the referee deemed it to be inside, thereby giving the Swiss a PK
After the Swiss converted, there was little time left for the Vaians, and they walked off the field dejected and angry. The Maklohi Vai Football Federation has demanded a review of the incident from its Gaveoan counterpart, but is not putting the game under protest in the interest of keeping civil relations. The Federation hopes to hear back shortly, and would like to see some reprimand of the referee.

Yes, did we shock you? Did it shock you that us, the people of Dyurtenali Poksadam who dare play a sport that isn't nationally recognized, actually defeated another squad? That we got the lead early and held on for the win? Did that shock you?

I suppose it could've. I mean, what are you supposed to expect from the likes of us, from the likes of a team that has been so battered down by its own society that it doesn't even know how to handle itself in public?

Perhaps this is our therapy. Perhaps this is when we choose to shine no matter what tries to stop us. Perhaps this is our hour.

Perhaps the games we are playing in Gaveo are more than just games on the pitch, but games with our lives on the line.

Getting too sentimental for you? Deal with it. It is what I believe.

Anollasia Lost, but we Redeemed ourselves!

Matchday one, in Copa Gaveo V. Anollasia vs Amelio. It was a very good game our national team was doing very good, but unfortunately, not good enough for Amelio. We have interviewed Midfielder Timothy Bellevue.
