THE UAWC
Union of Anarchist Workers' Communes

*Factbook is out of date and requires re-writing.

Geography

The UAWC is a large island country located in the Pacific Ocean, in the northern hemisphere, between Asia and North America. Some citizens have considered it to be its own continent due to its size. It is a lush and clean place with a thriving natural environment. Its terrain is amazingly varied; it has both hot and cold deserts, mountains, rain forests, prairies and other types of land.

The hazards we have to deal with are also varied, but we grow used to them. We have swamps and bogs, which are rather deep and can sink you. Our mining facilities are less than stable without fortifications. We have animals such as bears and sharks which can be rather dangerous when provoked. We also experience the occasional tropical storm and earthquake. Additionally, our cliffs may collapse when enough pressure is put on them so we use them for defensive warfare.

Economy

The UAWC is a socialist country. We follow the philosophy of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need", utilizing a centralized, planned economy. Everyone has the opportunity to choose the job they want and contribute to society, and in return, they are provided with the needs of living and more. Emphasis is made on keeping our economy sustainable in the long-term. Nearly all production is local (similar to how it would be done with the ideology of Juche), as we refuse to exploit the poor countries.

We are not in debt to anyone, and while others may claim otherwise due to charity and foreign aid we have given them, no one is in debt to us. We do not often trade with other countries, particularly those which are not socialist. As we are in the later stages of socialism and advancing towards communism, money is becoming less and less relevant to our economy.

Our currency is the Union Peso, though some of our communes are already advancing to the point where they don't need it anymore.

Necessities are provided for our people and paid for through taxes. Most of a citizen's pay is automatically given to the state; the state then pays for a citizen's food, water, health care, housing, dentistry, electricity, infrastructure, public places of leisure and the like. The small amount money left over is used for luxuries and can be saved up. All virtual commodities (video games, films, music) are post-scarcity and can be freely transferred from one citizen to others, and used freely as they wish at no charge.

The economy of the UAWC has long been democratized. Manufacturers and service providers are obligated by law to hold small elections regarding their commodities and services, which the people participate in. The people's feedback must also be heard. Manufacturers and service providers must heed and serve the people in this manner or those in charge are subject to re-education. Accusations of abuse of this democratic system as well as accusations of manufacturers and service providers disobeying the people are handled in the ECL (Egalitarian Court of Law).

History

The UAWC was once a capitalist dictatorship with the label of "parliamentary democracy". Back then it was simply known as the IRS, or the Imperial Regulated States. In the IRS, the government was small but highly authoritarian. The country, despite its lofty name, was little more than a factory for wealthy capitalist countries, who used our people for production, taking much, but giving little. The common worker was only paid enough to eat a little, and could not afford proper housing, electricity, or health care.

A united front was formed from communists, anarchists, and others on the left. The workers were tired of exploitation, the people tired of being slaves for the wealthy countries. They formed the RFF (Revolutionary Freedom Forces) which was initially a peaceful group that petitioned for equality. The government would not listen. As JFK has said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." The people, exploited and frustrated, were mostly on the side of the RFF, wanting a stateless, classless, egalitarian and democratic society. The government would not bend to their will, and a People's War was waged. Eventually, and with the support of numerous socialist countries, the RFF finally defeated the IRS, and the UAWC was born.

After this national-democratic revolution, which freed the people from imperialism, a second revolution took place, bringing forth socialism. A single-party state was established, a state with the purpose of advancing towards communism.

Today, the struggle continues, as socialism is not the goal, but the road towards the end (communism). The new struggle is between the common people and the new bourgeoisie which arises after the establishment of socialism. Together, the people can do anything.

Military and Police

"Without a people's army, the people have nothing." -Mao Zedong

The UAWC has a significant but in no way superfluous military force. About 1% of our country's economy is dedicated to the military today.

Much of the equipment the RFF uses is surplus Soviet kit. That which is not surplus Soviet kit is usually modernized and improved Soviet kit. Here is a list of weapons used by our military forces.

Our army is a people's army. A people's army is not merely a fighting force; a people's army must serve the people. We do not make a habit out of invading other countries. Our military forces stay here to protect the people and to defend them against the imperialists. Furthermore, officers and other high-ranking members of the military are elected by the common people, who are able to see their accomplishments as transparency is government policy.

The Union Revolutionary Police Force (URPF) is, as named, a people's police force tasked with serving and protecting the people and the UAWC's socialist way of life. Rule of law is a prominent force here and any officer caught attempting to put themselves above the law and above the common people is dealt with via re-education. It is not a criminal offense in the Union to use violence to defend oneself against police brutality.

URPF officers wear bright red uniforms and commonly carry the Kirika .45 pistol. Officers have easy-to-remember URPF nicknames which must be visible on their uniforms at all times. Citizens are strongly encouraged to use these nicknames (or the officers' real names, if they happen to know them) to report officers who breach the code of conduct. Citizens are also strongly encouraged to assist police in their work whenever possible, as it is government policy to do as much as possible to close the gap between the government and the people.

Sheriffs, captains, and other high-level officers are, as is the case with our military, elected by the people. Union police and military personnel who do their jobs properly are honored, appreciated and beloved citizens of the UAWC.

Government and politics

The UAWC (Union of Anarchist Workers' Communes) has been working hard to advance towards communism. The state must whither away, as Marx said, and this must be done by bringing the government and bringing democracy to the people. We have leaders and such, but we do not have rulers. The people must self-govern in order for socialism and eventual communism to work. The people directly elect officials and leaders, but we do not care about this as much as the actual decision-making, as that is where the real democracy lies. Government figures are held legally responsible for making decisions which are popularly opposed.

Our official national anthem is The Internationale.

The UAWC is divided into 60 individual provinces, which are broken into cities and rural areas, both of which are developing self-sustaining communes. This administration allows democracy to work better because laws and democratic decision-making are brought to a local level.

It is misleading to call the UAWC "anarchist"; it is named as such because of the heavy anarchist influence in this country, which has helped in the struggle against the new bourgeoisie and is usually a positive influence in our advancement towards communism. The UAWC has a full judicial court system called the ECL (Egalitarian Court of Law) and we have an "innocent until proven guilty" policy. The fact that our crime is...well, barely existent allows us to have such a liberal legal system. Also, we have no prisons, as again, we have no crime. This makes prisons a waste of time, resources and space. In the event that crime actually occurs, we have several different methods of dealing with it. The death penalty is used in the most extreme cases. Rehabilitation and re-education are our favorite way of dealing with crime. In other cases we may deport criminals to poor, capitalist-dominated nations as a punishment. Since our crime rate is so low we can have a true "punishment fits the crime" system. Our crime rate is so low because there are simply very few incentives to commit crime.

The UAWC has full freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Citizens who do not like or agree with the political system of the UAWC are allowed to freely voice their opinions, though most end up moving away as they are freely allowed to do so. More on this in the People and Population section.

There are no political parties in the UAWC other than the Union People's Communist Party (UPCP). Nazi sympathizers and those associated with democratically-labeled hate groups such as the BNP and KKK are deported if they attempt to do anything radical. We do not tolerate fascist or racist organizations in this country. Either the government deports them, or the people do it themselves with makeshift catapults. We are much kinder to non-racist and non-fascist political organizations which are opposed to our current government and system, but as we are very serious about maintaining socialism and revolution on the way to communism, we cannot and do not allow them to have any government influence.

Every educated citizen who has come of age may vote. The democratic process in the UAWC is widespread among all sorts of things, from how the education system is run to the military. Our democracy works as efficiently as it does because of our highly-developed, egalitarian and democratic education system. The UAWC's education system is the backbone of our society. Its comprehensive, realistic, efficient democratic structure makes it what it is. Those who do not wish to vote have the freedom to not do so, however. Our education system is also non-compulsory.

The UAWC rarely enters military conflict except in self-defense and the defense of allied nations and oppressed peoples. It is extremely rare to see UAWC military personnel on foreign soil for purposes that are not diplomatic.

People and Population

The UAWC's population is in the billions and will not be recorded here for practicality purposes; it is constantly rising due to immigration, as leftists flock to the UAWC, and we aid the peoples of oppressed nations who want a better life. UAWC citizens are known as "Unioners", "Communals", "Communards" or "Unionites". Informally they are called "Ewoks" due to the similar-sounding name of the UAWC when spoken as a word. Oftentimes they are simply referred to as "Commies". The UAWC is composed of various races, nationalities and ethnic backgrounds, with a slight majority of native aboriginal peoples. Life expectancy at birth is 90 years due to our health care and other factors. Various languages are spoken here, though the most commonly heard are English and Japanese, with Spanish, Russian, Arabic and German tagging along close behind.

Literacy, again, due to the UAWC's education system, is something all citizens have. We believe that the pen is mightier than the sword.

Religion in the UAWC is varied. We don't keep track of it because it really isn't relevant.

Communications and Leisure

Communication in the UAWC is open and widespread. Every household has a small, laptop-sized portable telephone-computer hybrid device which makes communication easy and allows post-scarcity digital content to be easily transferable. We also have a dwindling mail service. All communication services are nationalized and collectivized.

Every city in the UAWC has at least one video arcade. Arcades are completely free to enter and use and are thriving social centers. We have all kinds of video games available to play, from all sorts of genres. These arcades allow us to save resources because it's a lot less costly than having literally billions of home game systems produced for people who want to play.

Fun Facts!

-The UAWC's AMPS-S11 12ga. automatic shotgun was voted "most powerful infantry weapon" in a recent national poll.

-The UAWC is known worldwide for its lighthearted demeanor in foreign affairs and is considered "most lulzy country" by some websites.

-We have a serious problem with people getting lost in our forests and jungles. We really need to put up signs or something.

We of the UAWC thank you for taking your time to read this Factbook and happily welcome you to visit the UAWC at any time. Please feel free to ask us any questions you have right here, and I, the UAWC's ambassador, will answer you as soon as possible.
