RELIEF FOR FINEBERG
Major Free Congress Victory over Monarchist Forces

Annabelle Barca)
ImageFINEBERG, New Edom

Earlier today an attempted coup d'etat against the elected government by aristocratic officers supporting the Monarchist Party, led by Admiral Charles Rand, General Adam Zelek, General Joshua Adams, General Marcus Kiron and other senior officers following a bombing at the President's hunting lodge had resulted in lockdown of the capital and attempts to arrest senior Free Congress members of government. The whereabouts of certain cabinet ministers is still unknown. In spite of this, the 14th and 32nd Armoured Cavalry Regiments, with air support from Brightwater Air Force Base and Sterry Naval Air station have won a great victory over the rebels and have begun to drive them from the city.

"The important thing," said Brigadier-General Pahath-Moab of the 14th, "Is to preserve the lives of our citizens and prevent them from being caught in the crossfire, and to restore order and lawful government. While at the moment, serious fighting has been taking place around Fineberg's outskirts and the Military District, the "Boy General" has stated that he feels optimistic about the complete relief of the city within 12 hours time. Admiral Rand and his advisers have been unable or unwilling to comment

The Monarchist claim is backed up by a proclamation issued by King David III, but Judge Gabrielle Balaam has stated that the proclamation is unconstitutional. While this has been backed up by the spokesman for the Apostolic Church, Bishop Zecharias and acting Chief Justice, he has also condemned the violence and implored both sides to seek mediation.

Next Prime Minister Elections
Who are the "Big-Three" this time?

Written by Lynnette Galens

CARMINA, Riemaia — Starting next week, Riemaia will begin the exiting process of electing their new Prime Minister, but who are the main candidates you might be asking? Each of the main groups are bringing their A-game this time around, with issues around the nation and the region being the main campaign points of the three candidates, each with their own views and opinions on how each one should be dealt with.

Image
Ariel Dalmasca Campaign Poster

Ariel N'sela Dalmasca (Aged 29, shown right) is the candidate representing the Rienan Liberal Nationalist Party & Maiane Liberal Party coalition in the 2012 Prime Minister elections. Ariel hails from the peaceful province of Aurrel, serving under Prime Minister Seppanen as the Minister of Home Affairs, which has led to the improvement of the quality of the provincial guards training and equipment. As the candidate for the current leading parliamentary coalition, it is expected that Miss Dalmasca will follow their current set goals of peaceful interaction, increased exports and market expansionism, and increased benefits for all citizens, along with the use of the armed forces for defensive and peacekeeping roles around the region.

Michelle Gi Noyela-Meliore (Aged 34, shown below) is the candidate representing the League of Independents and the Monarchy of Riemaia. She is the current Queen of the province of Rieciaa, and the most shocking candidate announced because of that. As the leader of the third most prosperous province in the country, she has a favorable outcome shining through her dark cloud of nobility, with it not expected that a royal would even be considered for the position of Prime Minister. As a member of the League of Independents, shes expected to follow in the current Prime Ministers footsteps of domestic and foreign policy, focusing on improvements of the industrial capacity of the country, expanding the number of economic partners and allies Riemaia has, and the number of contacts abroad. Large shoes to fill indeed if she is to succeed Prime Minister Seppanen!

Image
Queen Michelle Campaign Poster

Ronal Merrisan (Aged 41) is the last of the big three, representing the United Democratic Party of Riemaia/Rienan Conservative Union coalition in the coming elections. As the more right-wing candidate, Minister Merrisan isn't expected to come close to the more centrist and left-wing candidates, but with the current regional issues, that may not be the case. As a citizen of the province of Magoi, Merrisan is used to working hard to survive in the harsh wilderness, which followed him into his appointment to the National Diet seven years ago. He is an avid supporter of the expansion of the Armed Services, a stronger anti-foreign expansionism policy, and the improvement of the agricultural and computer manufacturing sectors of the Riemaian economy.

Likewise, each of the candidates will be marketing most of their abilities towards the issues that hit close to home more than those thousands upon thousands of kilometers away, with the ever-looming escalation of the Edomite civil disturbances threatening to disrupt a fair portion of the Riemaian economy, whether to expand our trade partners to those outside of the Ellorean Commercial Union and closely allied countries, and the implementation of a new corporate taxes for those who work with less-than-ideal groups around the world, and lastly an increase in taxes for the people in relation to added benefits and public debt.

LOOKINGHAVEN STANDARD

Where's the Justice?
Who Are Our Real Friends?

Sarah-Jane French

Rumors that various of New Edom's allies are meeting with the suspect Sif Finnhald, supporter of insurrection, religious fanatic, suppressor of her own sex, has leaders of the supporters of King David deeply concerned. While the meeting place is undisclosed it is suspected that the leaders of the Shrailleeni Empire, the Protectorate of Nalaya, the Cookish States, the Republic of Lamoni, the Imperium of Cinya, the Empire of Bratoslovoukia and the Late Roman Empire intend to support the Free Congress.

At the moment all that stands in the way is the Empire of Riemaia, one of New Edom's truest allies, which has declared openly to support King David III, the rightful ruler and leader of the Allied States. However does that hang in the balance with elections coming up in Riemaia? The platform of Queen Noyela-Meliore sounds at a glance to be perfect, except that Riemaia has tended to be as neutral as possible under the auspices of her predecessor. All too fitting in peacetime or in the aftermath of civil strife, but during it, some advisers to King David have suggested that if they were Riemaian, they would vote for Dalmasca.

"Ultimately," said Benjamin Kent, a spokesperson for the King's advisory council, "I feel that Riemaia represents, in a sense, the very best of modern civilization. They are adventurous but moderate, kind but strong, and wise with a necessary touch of humility. I believe that they have done a great deal to improve the lot of the average person in New Edom and will continue to do so. I trust in the wisdom of their people to make the wisest best choice, not just for their own country, but for all they influence."

War in New Edom

(Author: Nero Titianus)

Fineberg, New Edom
The violence in New Edom continues, as fighting between forces of the Free Congress and those of the Monarchy Party begin the Battle for Fineberg. The conflict came following an attack on President William Touchstone, who is presumed dead. Following the assassination, the military has attempted to arrest or otherwise detain a number of elected representatives. This has fallen into full blown civil war as Monarchist and Congressional forces, each with their own allies from the international community.

Fortunately the Imperial Dominion of Cinya has thus far managed to avoid involvement in, what the government has styled, the Edomite Civil War. By labeling the conflict a civil war, as opposed to a rebellion and civil unrest, the government is now capable of putting the full force behind the Imperial Dominion behind either faction, currently considering both as sovereign nations located entirely in disputed territory. The International Community has taken note, as it implied the Imperial Dominion will eventually support one side or another, a minor aide in the Senate’s International Commission has commented that, “the Imperial Dominion takes the matter of New Edom very seriously, however, we currently do not have any plans to support either prominent faction in the conflict.

Image

Fineberg, before the war
While the Imperial Dominion has not yet announced which, if either, side will receive Cinyan support, the International Commission has decreed that New Edom’s Civil War has knocked them from a First Class to Second Class nation by Cinyan standards, a ranking only one above the classification Developing. This will limit the extent of recognition and support Edom can receive from Cinya following the resolution of the war. However, the greatest loss Edomite will experience will likely be in the minds of Cinyan leadership, who will from this point consider New Edom an unstable land likely to experience continued or renewed Civil War. Edom will be up for reconsideration in seven decades.

Elections Riemaia

Outgoing Prime Minister
Well, it’s that time of year again in the Grand Arctic Empire of Riemaia, election season. In the Imperial Dominion every citizen and ethnic Cinyan looks forward to their opportunity to continue on the grand institution of democracy, and we can only assume the same is true for Riemaians.

In Riemaia, Prime Ministers hold terms of six years, and this election the favorite for the election is Miss Dalmasca from the Riemaian Liberal Coalition. Dalmasca has served as the Minister of Home Affairs for the past six years, and Cinyan experts on the issue have stated that Minister Dalmasca will seek economic and military imperialism around the region though it is unlikely Riemaia will refer to their blatant attempts at imperialism as anything more than regional defense operations. Dalmasca’s primary opponent is Queen Michelle, who for those unaware of Riemaian custom does not mean she is Queen of the nation, instead only Queen of a Province. The Province under Queen Michelle’s leadership is amongst the most economically powerful in the Arctic Empire, while at the same time not supporting the same imperialist undertones as Dalmasca. Michelle intends to create economic ties rather than economic domination and is generally considered more diplomatic by Cinyan experts.

Image
Queen Michelle
While the Imperial Dominion does not make official recommendations to foreign nations in their elections, however, Sophia International’s sources in Sophia University have assured us that Queen Michelle is the natural selection for the all-around superior candidate, which is abnormal considering the typical Cinyan dislike of monarchies and Michelle being of royal blood, however, her economic policies have ensured a profitable trading partnership between Cinya and Riemaia as well as a less militant region as a whole.

Cookish News and Happenings

God Bless Operation Third Man Volunteers!

Image
Outside Fineberg, Cookish volunteers offer food and temporary shelter to the thousands of Edomites rendered homeless due to the civil war there.

Volunteers sent to New Edom. Many heart attacks must have been had. At CN&H we should have clarified that we mean volunteers with a lower case "v". Over 18,500 of these "Little v's" have signed up to go to New Edom despite the danger posed in that nation. They've departed with tons and tons of food, and billions in funding as well. We spoke to a volunteer boarding a train to a town outside Fineberg.

"I saw the pictures and videos and just thought they could use a hand. God forbid something so unfortunate happened to us, Edomites would come in droves to pull us from the hole."

Many of the workers signed up through the Cookish Red Cross, or CRC. The CRC was the primary force in rebuilding efforts in Dengali. The army of helpful folks includes doctors, cooks, and construction workers who have simply left their jobs to help. Most companies have offered paid vacation days for the duration of the civil war for those that are in New Edom.

The Cookish Military has expressed concern at the situation though. General Munoz in a statement said...

"The fact is, we've sent an army of people armed with medical supplies and canned food. While I'm heartened by the audacious kindness and devotion of my brothers under the flag, I'm afraid for their safety. For that reason, I'll be asking for blue-helmeted troops to be sent along with the aid caravans. While we trust all belligerents to be civil, we cannot trust criminals and the like not to cause trouble in the temporary living camps."

Naval and marine forces defect to Prince Karl!

Postby The Vorindun » Sat Jul 14, 2012 8:28 pm

From Maximeum, Vorindun, this is Imperial Vorindun Broadcasting Service news,
with your anchorwoman Caecilia Nerva reporting,

Good evening, patres,

In the wake of the recent international crises affecting the Vorindun, the son and heir of the deposed Kaiser, Prince Karl Rudolf Otto von Handelhoff, has claimed the allegiance of the naval and marine forces located at the Pompeius Naval Base in Flavium, the giant seaport in the extreme NE tip of the Vorindun. The prefect of Flavium, Aetius Corvinus, has formally submitted to the rule of Prince Karl, who has proclaimed himself Kaiser Karl I. An estimated third of the Navy and half of the marines have committed themselves by oath to the young prince, currently aged twenty-two. No comment has been reached from any of these people at this time.

In other news, the international coalition of Allanea, Unilisia, and Libertarian Governance appear to remain committed to their goal of eliminating slavery in the Vorindun. The recent issuance of a proclamation by Prince Karl, styling himself "Kaiser Karl I", has strongly hinted at an alliance between these foreign powers and his camp. Said proclamation essentially claimed dictatorial powers and outlawed slavery forever, as well as putting a price on the heads of the Patricius and his chief deputies. No comment has been reached from any of these people at this time.

In lesser news, Prince Karl has officially endorsed Queen Michelle and her League of Independents in the Riemaian elections, but also indicated that he has no opinion whatsoever of the New Edomite Civil War other than that it is "a bloody mess, much like our own, and without the nobility of purpose attached to ours". Speaking from an undisclosed location, widely believed to be Flavium, the self-appointed Kaiser has called for a "peaceful resolution of the Edomite morass". He also praised the idea of a pan-Cornellian summit, but he said that Vorindun's role in such would have to be "deferred until such time as we have a unified national government".

The Prince has also called for a pan-Cornellian maritime treaty, to ban the following:

1. Piracy.
2. The slave trade.
3. Whaling.

He also made a point of praising the Lamoni educational model, of warning that "any expansion of already existing foreign influence in Dengali is surely detrimental to the sovereignty of the Dengali state and its people", and denouncing what he called "dangerous intrusions into the rest of Cornellian by the so-called Regency". Finally, he urged the "liberation" of Megazone from Cinyan rule.

Last, but not least, he acknowledged being single, but stated that "I currently have to be something of a workaholic. Until such time as when I have a reasonable degree of leisure available to me, it is best to avoid any kind of social life whatsoever."

This has been Imperial Vorindun Broadcasting Service News,
I am Caecilia Nerva

We will return after these regularly scheduled commercials, stay tuned, or We will find you.
"The privilege of opening the first trial in history for crimes against the peace of the world imposes a grave responsibility. The wrongs which we seek to condemn and punish have been so calculated, so malignant, and so devastating, that civilization cannot tolerate their being ignored, because it cannot survive their being repeated. That four great nations, flushed with victory and stung with injury stay the hand of vengeance and voluntarily submit their captive enemies to the judgment of the law is one of the most significant tributes that Power has ever paid to Reason." The Vanguard: Official Paper of the National Party

The Decay of Cinyan Culture
How Far Is Too Far; Negotiations With Foreign Nations.

(Author: Secundus Domitianus )

Image
The Last Loyal Generation?
SOPHIA, Cinya — Cinyans, as we all know, the eyes of the region and the world are upon us, we know very well that many nations in the region look at our beautiful land with both disgust and hatred. New Edom, Wolfmanne, Riemaia, and countless others would both deny our rightful claim to the Southern Continent and the World. However, their hatred makes us stronger, and we have the obligation to embrace their dislike, for only then do we know our nation has taken the appropriate steps towards global hegemony. We also know as Cinyans that we are in constant and perpetual war against the nations of the world, even if it is not open. So then, we are safe from their infiltration, however, we now have a new enemy we had not before expected.

The Progressive Coalition and even some elements of the Imperial Party have admitted to conducting diplomatic talks with a number of nations, such as, but not limited to, the Cornellian Regency, the Allied States of New Edom, the Allied States of Aldares, and even the Military Protectorate of Nalaya. This demonstrates the moral weakness that comes with the leftist Senators. It is our firm belief that with every negotiation the Imperial Party betrays our culture. How many foreign products will be allowed to drive out our companies? How many immigrants will be allowed to walk the pristine beaches of Caelina? How many of our students will be allowed to set foot on foreign soil? With every talk, with every attempt to gain friends internationally, we as a culture and a people grow weaker. Actions must be taken to reverse devastating trend. In the words of Party Leader and Senator Tacitus Fabianus, “if the elected politicians of our nation will not take steps to preserve the moral and cultural supremacy of we ethnic Cinyans, then violence is always a means to replace them.” The Senator has also promised to remove embassies from our soil, ban immigration, and exterminate the inferiors within our borders.

Image
Senator Fabianus
It seems as though this is the first time in a long time that the National Party has a very strong chance of victory in the upcoming elections. The Conservative Coalition is moving away from the traditional leadership of the Imperial Party, as they drag their feet on the Dengali Issue, and with the recent endorsement to the National Party from the Divinity Party, Chaplain Aemilianus sighting the drop in church attendance as the reason for the change in support. The Progressive Coalition also seems to be in disarray, the Feminist Party having weakened following the death of Senator Horatia’s children and her continued hiatus it seems the Progressive Coalition stands little of a chance. This is the time for the National Party to take the office of First Consul and with it the Nation. Protect our people, our culture, our nation- vote National.

Princess Nicolette caught, hanged for murder.

Postby Gavinium Magnus » Mon Jul 16, 2012 9:33 am

Gavinium City Herald

In a shocking turn of events, HRH Princess Nicolette of Gavinium Magnus, a respected and beloved member of the Royal Family, has been caught in the act of attempting to murder HRH Crown Prince Lucian. Pursuant to an ancient law never abrogated despite recent constitutional reforms, she was hanged within the hour for her crimes, which by her own confession included the masterminding of the murder of the late HRH Princess Serena. Her execution was personally supervised by HRH Princess Denise, who recently renounced her claim to the throne.

The LDS Bishop for Gavinium Magnus, Dr. Liam Gael, has also been implicated, but has denied any involvement. So far, no warrant for his execution has been issued by the Crown. It is not clear if this is because the Crown seriously doubts the accusation leveled against him. The bishop could not be reached for comment at this time.

Davis Thorpe, a foreign national residing in Gavinium, was executed within two hours of the murder attempt on the grounds that he was the actual assassin. He has been identified as an LDS missionary in Gavinium Magnus with the title of "Elder".

The LDS in Gavinium Magnus has released a press statement condemning both the murder, the "deviant lifestyles of the royal family, for whom we must pray for their salvation", and the "judicial murder in the form of executions without due process of law".

The Crown has replied with a statement that denounced the "attempts to blame the victims of this horrible crime. The Crown has acted within the constitution and laws of the realm. Nothing illegal or murderous was done by the Crown or any member of the Royal Family".

Update: It has been confirmed now that HRH Princess Denise has decided to emigrate to a foreign country, the name of which has not been disclosed as of yet.

Patriarchal Radicals Incite Violence in New Edom

IMPERIAL CITY, Shrailleeni Empire - Reports of fighting in the New Edomite capital of Fineberg yesterday have been confirmed by sources in the Imperial government. Heavy weapons and small arms could be heard in and around important areas, including the military district, Stonehaven prison, and the Palace of Justice. All across the city daily lives have been disrupted as soldiers meant to honor and protect their families and friends began fighting with each other in the streets, spilling blood where once was peace, modernity, and advancement.

The exact cause of the fighting is still unclear, but several facts have been made readily apparent. The President of New Edom, William Touchstone, has gone missing and is presumed dead along with several of his high-ranking officials. In the wake of this suspicious tragedy, Foreign Minister Sif Finnhald is by New Edomite law now the acting President of that nation, the first woman ever to fill the role. However, the government of the Lady Finnhald was not the only one to contact the Empire when the fighting began. Another faction, claiming to be the New Edomite government, sent a nearly simultaneous message stating that they were battling anti-government rebels in the capital.

It is now apparent that this faction, led by one Admiral Charles Rand, is actually led by none other than the monarchy of New Edom itself, and represents a direct and real affront to the sanctity of New Edomite law and to the leadership of Sif Finnhald. Headed by their King, David III, these patriarchs have decided to seek a return to their antique power in the only way that they know how: through the means of war, violence, and destruction. The death of William Touchstone at the head of this vicious attack does not seem to be coincidence, and would hold true with the established methods used by the unenlightened to launch their campaigns for power.

While the government of William Touchstone has had its disagreements with Enlightened ideals, most notably during the senseless and unfortunate expulsion of the New Edomite Feminist Party to the lands of the Empire, it has also proven an honorable and worthy ally. And as officials like Sif Finnhald and Sarah Carmel prove, the Edomite government is open to more Enlightened ideas than many other nations that the Empire has met. The Edomite monarchy, on the other hand, is a long-established patriarchal system which not only gives power only to men, but treats its women like property and sells its daughters for wealth and power on a whim. Further proof of their barbarity need only be seen in their actions, and in the clouds of acrid smoke that hang over the once-proud New Edomite capital.

All Shrailleeni subjects are advised that a travel warning has been placed on New Edom, effective immediately. No travel to New Edom will be permitted from Shrailleeni soil, and Shrailleeni subjects already in New Edom are advised to remain where they are, and to contact the embassy in Fineberg for additional information.

Mother Empress Voices Support for the Free Congress

In an official statement this afternoon, the Mother Empress Chella Resyanna fe Shrailleen made an announcement before the press at the Imperial Palace. In her statements, the Mother Empress expressed her sorrow that such tragedy has struck the people of New Edom once again, and voiced her support for the Free Congress and acting President Sif Finnhald while attacking the actions of the monarchy.

“The Empire shall not waver in its commitment to New Edom, a commitment driven not by treaty or decree but by our blood, by our sacred honor, and by the will of the Mother of All. A peaceful nation has been torn asunder, another victim of the aggressive tendencies of corrupted men who seek only to further their own power, regardless of the cost in human life. To acting President Sif Finnhald, I give the assurances of the Empire of Shrailleen that our swords shall be drawn in defense of the innocent, and to the honor of our allies. To the King of New Edom, the Empire urges you: remember your sacred duty as ruler to the ruled, and do not destroy more lives by your actions. The Mother Goddess honors those who seek the path of peace, and so the Empire shall honor and support you for turning from your current path to follow such a course.”

Rumors of Shrailleeni military action against the patriarchs remain unconfirmed, although it is known that Matriarch of State Aryni Resyanna fe Shrailleeni and Foreign Minister Zattem Resbruck left for an important conference earlier today. The Empire has received assurances that the New Edomite bases in the archipelago have declared their allegiance to Sif Finnhald’s government. The disposition of the New Edomite military in the Republic of Dengali, whose independence is supported by both Shrailleeni and Edomite presences, is still unknown.

New Edomite Feminist Party Backs Finnhald Government

The Feminist Party of New Edom, speaking from their headquarters in Yennessa University, voiced support for the Free Congress upon learning of the turmoil engulfing the country that they call home. Although banned from New Edom by the government of President Touchstone on baseless charges of treason and conspiracy, the Feminist Party has vowed not to give up their right to Edomite citizenship, and to one day return to the nation that they love. To the Edomite sisters of Shrailleen, the actions of the monarchists cannot be supported by any freedom-loving people.

"The actions of King David and his allies are not only illegal, they are a threat to the principles of democracy itself. The Free Congress is the legitimate government of New Edom, and the democratic voice of our people. It can't be thrown away just because a few men with power and money decide that they don't like what it decides. Touchstone's government may be against the rights of women, and its actions have been dramatic and inexcusable. But throwing away that government in exchange for rule by the monarchy isn't a step forward for women's rights in New Edom, it is several steps back. When the Feminist Party disagreed with the government, we protested, we spoke out, and we demonstrated, but we did so peacefully. The monarchy has voiced its disagreements with bombs and bullets, attacking our capital while our President is missing, presumed dead.

The FP will not and cannot condone the use of violence, for any reason. Therefore we, the Feminist Party of New Edom, declare our support for the Free Congress and for acting President Sif Finnhald. Democracy is our best hope for true equality, and we will defend it. We hope that when acting President Finnhald counts her allies that she will hear our voice, and see that the true threat to stability in New Edom has already revealed itself. We pray for the safety of our friends, our neighbors, and our sisters in New Edom, and for a quick end to this senseless violence."

This statement of support also came with an offer made to the Shrailleeni government, to ask the government of New Edom to allow Feminist Party volunteers to aid in disaster relief in their home country. The Royal Court has promised to contact Sif Finnhald with this request, which shows the level of commitment that these women and men still have for the nation that treated them with such suspicion.

New Edom wrote:Elizabeth Salt remarked, "It's amazing, isn't it, you rarely see modern troops that wear their 19th century uniforms and gear so well--they must drill all the time. Is this a guards outfit?"

Sif said to her, "This is a modern Shrailleeni Empire military parade. Like as in this is what they wear, this is what they use. This is it."

Elections To Be Held In The Imperial Dominion
Guaranteed Win For the Conservative Coalition

(Author: Augustinus Anicetus )

SOPHIA, Imperial Dominion of Cinya — Other than the Cinyan Ten, Invidious the Scholar also gave the Imperial Dominion the Maxim, “politicians are the easiest breed of man to corrupt and the more often they are cycled the better, for the good of all.” This excellent suggestion by Invidious the Scholar has been taken into consideration when Cinya designed the election cycles of the Imperial Dominion. Despite the frequency of elections, it is typical for Senators to hold office for decades on end- a side effect of the well-entrenched policies of the major Coalitions.
Image
First Consul Cassian

First Consul Cassian of the Imperial Party is the incumbent and has held the position since the 2000 Elections. The First Consul’s career began with a high point unrivaled since the Great Crusade, the conquest of Megazone, under Cassian the capital city of Megazone, Megalopolis, was torched to the ground- killing the entire population (done to avenge murdered Cinyan supporters). However, some argued that even this conquest represented a failure in diplomacy. Unfortunately, following the 2001 high, Cassian’s career plateaued. This his greatest obstacle in his reelection attempt, as his failure to accomplish anything towards the Dengali issue, the still unresolved matter of the Paradise Shores, and now the general confusion on the government’s position on New Edom. These have combined into a general revolt in his own party, as many of the young members of the Imperial Party turn to the National Party.

Image
Senator Fabianus
Senator Fabianus seems to be the only challenger to the Senator Cassian for the office of First Consul. The Senator is the leader of the National Party which has benefited from the revolt within the ranks of the Imperial Party- though that’s not the only advantage the National Party is blessed with this election season- they also have the backing of the Divinity Party (sighting the lack of Imperial Party commitment to the Church of Cinya) and the disharmony of the Progressive Coalition ever since the collapse of the Feminist Party. It seems many Progressives intend to boycott the elections, sighting neither of the Conservative figures are fit for the position. The attract Senator seems to be ahead by as many as seven polls according to some reports, and it certainly seems that Senator Fabianus will soon become First Consul Fabianus.

With the Death of the Rt. Rev. Oliver Grey, Archabbot Gideon Sinclair takes the Cathedra of Mount Bethel

(Reporting by Carla Bennet and Saren Andrs)

Official Portrait of the Rt. Rev. Grey, 2002
MOUNT BETHEL, Mount Angel — On July 17, 2012, just past the hour of Vespers, the Rt. Rev. Oliver Grey, Archbishop of Mount Bethel, Primate of Mount Angel, Vicar of the Holy Refuge, Servus Servorum Dei, died in his sleep in the Archepiscopal Palace on Mount Bethel. He was 92, and had reigned for 35 years. Within an hour of his death, the Concilium Ecclesiae proclaimed Archabbot Gideon Sinclair of the Order of St. Michael as the Archbishop-Elect of Mount Bethel, and his appointment was confirmed the next morning by the National Vestry, 132-18.

The death of the Rt. Rev. Grey marks the end of an era in Angelan political-religious history. For many Angelans, including one of the authors of this report, the Rt. Rev. Grey had been Archbishop since before they were born. As Archbishop, the Rt. Rev. Grey shepherded the Holy Refuge through two wars, an economic crisis, and the pluralization of Angelan electoral politics with the blossoming of the Renatus and Socialist parties. "His ministry," says Zinovia Toglu, Professor Emeritus of Political Theology at St. Jerome Theological Seminary, "was not always clear-sighted, not always objective." The Rt. Rev. Grey's handling of the Mak'ur Crusade, in particular, has come in for heavy criticism. "But he became a symbol of the enduring idealism of the Church, a crusader as much against rampant consumerism and materialism at home as against intolerance and aggression abroad.
Image

Even if he did not always succeed in those goals, Archbishop Grey nevertheless embodied them. For a generation of Angelans, he was a living lesson in what Mount Angel was all about, in what it meant to be Angelan. In that sense, he had more impact on this country than anyone else in the last fifty years."

The Rt. Rev. Grey suffered for the last ten years of his life from Belphegor's Fever, a degenerative condition that left him first bedridden, and then reliant on life support. Under such circumstances, the Concilium Ecclesiae acquired much of the power of the religious executive, a process which Professor Toglu describes as "an unofficial amendment of the Eighty-one Articles to deal with the issues posed by Archbishop Grey's illness." Given the extremely rapid nature of the Rt. Rev. Sinclair's election as Archbishop by the Concilium, it seems likely that he was identified ahead of time as the Concilium's choice to succeed the ailing Archbishop.

The Rt. Rev. Sinclair is known as a highly decorated soldier renowned for his service in St. Alban's War and the Mak'ur Crusade. At forty years of age, he is one of the youngest men ever to attain the Cathedra of Mount Bethel. Politically, his views are not well-known. "Most of his contacts," Professor Toglu claims, "are within the Order of St. Michael. It's hardly surprising - the Order took him in as an infant, as it does all its members, and raised him almost from birth to be a soldier of God. That's a mentality that works superbly on the battlefield, but not as well in the Council chamber. I suspect that Archbishop Sinclair simply doesn't think in political terms; the moral imperatives and clear-cut relationships of the Michaelites are where he lives, not in the murky complexities of Church and electoral politics."

Most of the Concilium Ecclesiae declined to comment on their decision; the Rt. Rev. Thracius Ionescu, Archabbot of the Order of St. Matthew, was fairly typical: "I have absolute confidence in Archbishop Sinclair. I firmly believe that he was the right choice for the Church, and for all the people of Mount Angel. And that's all I have to say on the matter." The Rt. Rev. Enrique Angelhescu, however, Archabbot of the Order of St. Augustine, surprised reporters by claiming that "I think Brother Gideon will surprise a lot of people. He's not hidebound, not afraid of tradition. He has the clearest sense of Mount Angel's special mission in the world of anyone I've ever seen, and he's not the sort to compromise principle for policy. We may be seeing some significant changes around here, and soon."

Preparations for the Rt. Rev. Grey's funeral are already underway, and the ceremony is expected to be held on the first of August. A date, unusually, has not been set for the Rt. Rev. Sinclair's formal consecration as Archbishop of Mount Bethel, leading some to speculate that he is already at work on some major project that demands too much time for him to set aside the week of festivities surrounding a primate's consecration. Certainly, with a young and dynamic soldier on the Cathedra, the slow-moving rule by committee that prevailed during the last decade of the Rt. Rev. Grey's illness seems finished. As for what will replace it? Only time will tell.

Draconia returns to the fold!

Postby Late Roman Empire » Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:58 pm

Chalcedon Gazette,

Manlius Constantius

After what was apparently considerable secret negotiations between Constantinople and its former Cornellian client-state of Exalted Draconia, the Autocrator of that nation, Draco I, signed a treaty that will no doubt prove most beneficial to both countries. It once more restores the client status which will secure the southern half of the isthmus of Nalaya to both former Cornellian states.

In these troubling times, no doubt this restoration of part of the Cornellian Empire will strengthen both states involved, as witnessed by the recent plan to include the Draconian Guard, a contingent of elite Draconian volunteers, in the Roman army as a new legion. More such legions of Draconians are expected, especially with the unfortunate war in New Edom, in which the Divine Augustus has wisely shown his support for the legitimate government headed by Acting President Sif Finnhald.

In return for this military contribution, as well as reasonable financial dues, the new client-state of Exalted Draconia will be a very free and independent state in all other particulars, save only that it is pledged to stand united with the Empire in matters of mutual defense and security. It will also receive considerable economic assistance with the development of its industries, infrastructure, and foreign trade sectors, not to mention Roman military bases to help bolster its defense. An extradition treaty, customs union, and non-aggression pact were included, of course, as well as a Draconian legation in Constantinople and a Roman legation in Draconeum.

We should all, Roman and Draconian alike, look forward to this as the first day of a new era for both nations.

"I swear by Almighty God that I will faithfully serve and obey the Divine Augustus, as our Lord and Master, and hold him alone as my true, dread sovereign and prince. I swear that I will serve him loyally until the hour of my death, on pain of damnation to my eternal soul." - the Imperial Oath of Allegiance (administered to the civil service and armed forces)

Woe to they who demand things of the Lord of the World, for he is neither so obliged nor amused.

FAMILIES FLEE MASS SLAUGHTER

Sarah-Jane French
ImageSILVER RIVER DISTRICT, New Edom

More than 6,000 families have been forced to flee after an outbreak of fighting in East Bara. These people reportedly fled after the Free Congress launched a fresh military campaign in the Fineberg region to capture the Silver River Air Force Base. The campaign is aimed at the disarmament of the Monarchist Forces and their local militia allies

Since the start of the civil war, the people of East Bara has become increasingly victims of looting, extortion, killing and rape, according to New Edomite Red Cross first situation report dated 19 July covering the province. Following the announcement of impending military operations in the province by the Congressional Forces against the Royal Army the protection of ordinary citizens has become a major concern, adds the report.

At least twelve large-scale attacks were registered since early July involving indiscriminate killings, rapes, burning of houses, immolation of persons, extortion, and pillaging. The most deadly attack occurred in Aran (north of Fineberg), on the night of 10 to 11 July. Approximately 77 persons were killed with swords, axes and knives or burned alive, and more than 700 houses were burnt. According to reports Congressional militia allies have also been responsible for pillaging, confiscations of harvests and food rations, and destruction of houses.

Expect to see more dispossessed refugees of wealth and clout soon. The war in New Edom appears to just be heating up. Despite peace talks, neither side has had the sense to arrange a cease-fire while they talk, so these negotiations are likely to shift in tone and become moot eventually, as the fortunes of the two factions, both of which have dubious claims to legitimacy, ebb and flow. Sooner or later, the victor will dispense with negotiations and simply dictate unacceptable terms to the other, which amount to a demand for unconditional surrender. Then the loser will be forced to flee to countries like ours in comfortable exile.

Why are the factions so obstinately continuing hostilities? Well, the answer to that question is simple: fanaticism. Both sides are composed of zealots for one cause or another, and zealots are not content with sharing power. Our own historical experience has shown the wisdom of breaking away from Christian fanatics in particular. The last century of Cornellian emperors was mostly a who's who of the lunatic fringe of Christianity, and the End Times Church in New Edom makes those men look relatively sane by comparison.

Thankfully, such madness is absent from Gavinium Magnus. Gavinians, high and low, would never stand for such things, especially their accursed Morality Act and Compulsory Nudity Act, both apparently more sops to the ETC and its heavily armed Black-Shirts than actual legislation meant to be consistently enforced. After all, anyone in even half of his right mind would know such laws are practically unenforceable, especially in matters of the bed. To a certain extent, it's understandable, in that the Free Congress needs these goose-steppers to prop up its rule. In other ways, it's inexcusable that they are in bed with the End Times' Church instead of choosing more moderate and sensible alliances, such as the Wisdom Party, whatever its flaws.

The Monarchists, meanwhile, are in no position to throw stones. All of the international intelligence that has surfaced strongly suggests that they have murdered the legal head of the executive branch (the exact office which constitutes the head of state is unclear under that bizarre monstrosity of a constitution they approved last time around) and initiated a renewal of hostilities, just when New Edom was beginning to recover from the previous bloodbath. Admiral Rand is currently little better than a naval warlord with marines who see him more as their patron than merely as their supreme commander.

How did it come to this pass, with New Edomites being forced to choose between a monarchist-backed military junta and an extremist-dominated "democratic" movement? Well, that's evident. I submit to you that it's the lack of a proper social and cultural ethic, of a fundamental moral value that transcends petty, arbitrary, and unnatural social and sexual mores dictated by the blind faith of the clergy and laity alike.

Such a moral value exists firmly in Gavinium Magnus: it's justice. Not prudery, monogamy, chastity, modesty, nudity, etc. or any other such claptrap. It is Justice. We rightly pride ourselves on justice. Justice is the Light of law, illuminating the path to true laws and contrasting them with oppressive ones. Without justice, we blindly follow the morals of the mass-priests. With it, we use the Light given to enlighten us and our minds, and we know whom to reward and whom to punish.

Of course, one can see why such justice is not much desired in New Edom by both factions. Justice in their case would be a visit to the gallows. That's not much incentive to pursue it for either side, for they both deserve to hang for what they've done. Let us hope that the people come to their senses and give both royals and politicians their just desserts, served by the noose which rightfully belongs around their necks. Then the people could find a more just system of government, one which brings an end to oppression, legislative purges, hostage crises, and atrocities, once and for all. New Edom can then be a civilized country.

Autocrator Draco I is baptized a Christian!

(Demetrios Samos)

In an unprecedented move of its sort, His Exalted Imperial Majesty, Draco I, Autocrator of Exalted Draconia, has been baptized a Christian. He has also proclaimed Christianity the new state religion and ordered the construction of new churches devoted to various saints. It has been decided that the new Apostolic Catholic Church of Draconia would attempt to affiliate itself with the Eastern Imperial Roman Catholic Church. Intermarriage with other Christians will be permitted, however, "as long as they be not heretics."

While polygamy remains legal under criminal, civil, and family law, it is now banned in canon law. Those who wish to belong to the new state church will be allowed concubines, but not plural wives. Clergy must be celibate. Those who wish to practice polygamy can either remain pagan (and forfeit commissions in the armed forces, as well as public office), convert to Islam (and qualify for commissions and some public offices, but not all), or join a branch of Christianity or Judaism which permits polygamy (such as some Sephardic branches of Orthodoxy or Karaite Judaism, as well as the End Times' Church of New Edom).

It is to be expected that many will choose the last option, as there are no disqualifications, except for the throne itself.

Applications for foreign missionaries will now be reviewed, with special emphasis on those from New Edom, Nalaya (especially Eastern Orthodox Christians), Mount Angel, and Menassa (for the rabbis).

When attempting to reach the Hierophant of the Draconian Hellenist religion for comment, it was learned that he had converted to the new state religion as well, so was no longer the Hierophant, but simply a Christian of the Draconian Church.

Those already with plural wives would be allowed to keep them after conversion, but no new such marriages would be permitted, said the new Archbishop of Draconeum and Metropolitan of the Draconian Church, Father Gregorios.

To Keep the Peace
Angelan Peacekeepers and Aid Workers Arrive in New Edom; "Not for Greed, But for Love," says Archepiscopal Palace

(Reporting by Carla Bennet and Nigel Marley)

FINEBURG, New Edom — Beginning late last night and continuing through the morning today, ten thousand peacekeepers and another ten thousand aid workers from the Holy Refuge of Mount Angel have arrived at Griffin Airlines' auxiliary airport in Fineburg, New Edom, to begin humanitarian aid operations in the war-torn nation. Angelan public opinion is divided on the deployment, which has come as a surprise to many after the long inaction of the religious leadership of Mount Angel, but the new Archbishop of Mount Bethel, the Rt. Rev. Gideon Sinclair, has staked his week-old primacy on the operation.

Image
A transport plane en route to New Edom for Operation
Urgent Mercy
New Edom has been in the grip of brutal civil war since a still-unexplained bomb attack killed or critically injured most of the senior military and political figures of the New Edomite government. At the moment, the most intense fighting rages around the capitol city of Fineburg and along the Silver River, especially near the Air Force base of the same name. The conflict, between the Free Congress and Monarchists factions, not to mention the heavily armed militia of the heterodox End Times Church, shows no signs of abating. Sources inside the Archepiscopal Palace claim that the civil war was the Rt. Rev. Sinclair's first priority upon being elected as Archbishop of Mount Bethel, and that his preparations for the peacekeeping operations now underway were responsible for the postponement of his formal consecration ceremony as Archbishop, which has still not yet occurred.

The deployment of peacekeepers, it has been stressed, is not an act of war - a Crusade, in the parlance of Angelan religious-political policy. Rather, it is undertaken with the consent of the Free Congress, the Monarchists, and the Apostolic Church of New Edom, on terms acceptable to all. Accordingly, it is known in military and political circles as "Operation Urgent Mercy." As of now, Urgent Mercy involves primarily the Caritas Chapter of the Order of St. Michael, a battle-hardened force tried and tested in the Mak'ur Crusade, and a miscellaneous group of volunteers from the Order of St. Ninian, the Order of St. Luke, the Order of St. Thomas, and the laity. It is this second group which has focused public attention on the mission; while the Michaelites have few contacts with the outside world, the civilian volunteers leave behind them families and communities both fearful and proud.
Image
The Rt. Rev. Ruth Carlisle, Archabbess of the
Order of St. Gabriel, addresses reporters
regarding Operation Urgent Mercy.

"Am I worried? Yes, I'm worried," says Donna Valcon, 81, of St. David's. "My son is over there, with his wife and daughter. I've been worried since they got on the plane. But he's a grown man now, and it's his decision. It's a noble thing to risk one's life for others. I just wish the life being risked wasn't Joseph's." This is a common thread among many of those whose loved ones have gone abroad, and it was picked up yesterday by Representative Kemel Mushag of the National Vestry.

"Why weren't we informed of this?" demanded Mr. Mushag. "We are the voice of the laity of Mount Angel, the democratic check on the power of prelates, the will of the Holy Spirit through the assembled church. And now mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, have been sent overseas, perhaps to their deaths, for questionable reasons, with inadequate preparation, and without the consent of the National Vestry! I demand an explanation!"

While the Rt. Rev. Sinclair has thus far declined to comment, the Rt. Rev. Ruth Carlisle, Archabbess of the Order of St. Gabriel, today told reporters: "I understand Representative Mushag's concerns. But despite his rhetoric about the power of prelates, I must remind him that the Archbishop of Mount Bethel has, under the Eighty-One Articles, complete authority over the military forces, Regular and lay, of the Angelan Church. The Right Reverand Sinclair exercised his legal authority in order to save innocent life. There is nothing improper in his actions, either constitutionally or morally."

The justices of the Curia Angela, the ultimate authority on the Eighty-One Articles, have thus far declined to comment. Other Angelan citizens have not been so shy. "I think it's wonderful, what they're doing," says Sister Gloria Andrs of the Order of St. Ninian. "One of my best friends, Marie Hanson, is over there now. I'm proud of her, as I'm proud of all of them: they're saving the lives of people they've never met, just like the Archbishop said."

This is a constant refrain among those who support the deployment, a reference to a televised address given by the Rt. Rev. Sinclair to the volunteers before their deployment. The Archbishop concluded:
"And so go forth. Go forth to bear the burdens and the sorrows of this war - knowing that in love, all things can be borne. Go forth to believe even in the darkest pit of human suffering that God is nigh to heal and bless - knowing that in love, all things can be believed. Go forth to hope against all hope that a new day of peace and justice will dawn from this night of violence and hatred - knowing that in love, all things can be hoped for. Go forth to endure the wounds of body and soul, the horrors that can never be forgotten, and even death itself - knowing that in love, all things can be endured. Go forth knowing that as there is no end to God's love, so there is no end to the good that you can do beyond the sea. Because the message of the cross and the empty tomb is as true now as it was on the dusty streets of Jerusalem two thousand years ago: God is love, the same love that will sustain you now, come what may. And in the end, love wins."

It remains to be seen whether the Rt. Rev. Sinclair's prophecy will come true. For now, as so often, we can only pray, and wait.

Spreading the Faith
Missionaries of the Order of St. Ninian set out for Draconia; Archabbess "Highly Optimistic"

(Reporting by Carla Bennet and Saren Andrs)

MOUNT BETHEL, Mount Angel — Overshadowed by the commencement today of Operation Urgent Mercy in New Edom, another group of Angelans has left these shores to do God's work in the world: in this case, in Draconia, which today allowed applications for missionaries from a number of Cornellian nations. While it is still unclear whether the Ninianites will be allowed to enter the country, Archabbess Esther Snowe claims to be highly optimistic.
Image
The Rt. Rev. Esther Snowe, Archabbess of the Order
of St. Ninian, addresses reporters regarding her
Order's mission to Draconia.

"The conversion of the Heirophant is an encouraging sign that real and meaningful conversion is underway in Draconia," The Rt. Rev. Snowe told reporters today. "And as that conversion continues, it is natural - and even necessary - for the Draconian government and people to explore the richness of the various traditions of Christianity. We are therefore confident that the representatives of the Angelan Church will be admitted and respected."

Not everyone is so optimistic. Representative Illuci Chapelle of the National Vestry told the press that she was "deeply concerned by the recklessness of sending yet more Angelan sons and daughters abroad in a time of turmoil." Her worries were echoed by many in the New Union Party during the National Vestry debate today.

The Rt. Rev. Snowe dismisses such concerns. "The times are always in turmoil, and some dangers must always be braved by those who would do the work of God. It is the mission of the Order of St. Ninian to spread the Gospel and to care for all God's children, no matter their citizenship or creed. That mission cannot be impeded by fear of the world; it is moved, rather, by love of the world. I have every confidence that the brothers and sisters of the Order of St. Ninian will be admitted to Draconia; that they will spread the good news of God's saving grace far and wide; that they will change the lives of everyone whom they encounter; and that they will, in the end, usher in a new dawn of friendship and dialogue between Mount Angel and Draconia."

Whether or not these aims will be accomplished is still unclear, but the Rt. Rev. Snowe's optimism comes at an opportune time for a nation still girding itself for far more costly encounters abroad. With the first boots on the ground in New Edom, a more peaceful mission for the Order of St. Ninian is a comforting reminder that, come what may, the Word is still mightier than the sword.

DEFENSE OF FINEBERG
Rebel Forces Advance on the Capital

Written by Annabelle Barca

FINEBERG, New Edom — In spite of legitimate elected government being in place, Monarchist rebels refuse to give up the hostage government officials, surrender military authority or to cease their attacks on the capital of Fineberg.

Image
Loyalist Artillery Crew

Free Congress Forces are outnumbered but determined to hold the city in the face of the onslaught. General Pahath-Moab, the loyalist commander, has said that Fineberg has had little time to prepare for its defense, but that he is confident that soldier and citizen alike will be prepared to do their best duty in the defense of the nation's capital.

Acting President Sif Finnhald and Defense Minister Augrim of Haran have expressed their total confidence in General Pahath-Moab's ability to hold the city, in spite of being considerably younger than General Adams, the rebel field commander. In spite of this confidence by the government, a large number of people have begun to leave the city. Recent arrival by peacekeeping command from Mount Angel will perhaps be the best hope for these people who believe that they are escaping destruction.

Order of St. Ninian among first welcomed to Draconia!

Postby Exalted Draconia » Tue Jul 24, 2012 9:01 pm

Draconeum Times

By: Demetrios Samos

The arrival of the Angelan religious society, the Order of St. Ninian, has been among the first and most prominent of foreign Christian missionaries encouraged to spread the Christian Gospel in Exalted Draconia. They were able to present literature, preach sermons, and perform sacraments for the spiritual benefit of some 1,200 Draconians within 36 hours of their arrival.

The results of their first operations have already born considerable fruit. An estimated 342 Draconians converted to the Angelan Church as a direct result of these missionary activities. This included an estimated 269 confirmed polygamists, which will no doubt result in complications to the rites and services of the church, as well as the private lives of the new converts and their families.

Essentially, this is a confirmed 25% conversion rate of those evangelized in the first 36 hours of the Angelan mission, a stellar record by any standard. While the Rt. Rev. Snowe could not at the moment be reached for comment, the former Hierophant and new Apostolic seminary student, Alexios Kyros, has stated, "We are very pleased and gratified by these foreign missions and this evident passion to win the souls of Draconians while it is possible to do so. May God prosper the Angelans and all other foreign missionaries who have done their best to lead men to Christ and His Gospel. Many, like myself as I was, are still lost in the spiritual darkness of idolatry and graven images. Any effort to win them to the true faith of our Lord is commendable indeed."

More news regarding this development as it becomes available.

Don't Let The Door Hit You...?

Image

The Cookish garrison in Akka, Menassa, after fifty years of being stationed there, is being withdrawn. Above are the ships CSm Hidal, Yepiz, and Forerunner (left, center, and right respectively) leaving the port, the ships will dock in New Southport this August.

Menassa could never be called an "ally" of the States per se, but the two nations have worked together on many subjects including but not limited to...

-Menassa's homeland security
-Economic stimulation to Menassa's military and economy
-An agreement to mutual trade between our nations

Why, after all this good fortune between us, did the Hebrew state decide to kick us out so abruptly? Some say the Evangelical roots of our nation have grown to discern new Menassan leadership, a fear not held in the sixties by them upon the foundation of the base. Regardless, the government has largely cut ties with Menassa, Minister of War Pfaffenroth had fiery words against their government...

"These people have paraded themselves as our friends for half a century while we literally protected their shores! Our men agreed to shed blood in the defense of the right for a Menassan to live peacefully. I think I share everyone's displeasure, and I speak for all of us when I say I am insulted. I can only imagine how the troops feel about all this, having to uproot their families from the base to move back. The Menassan government has used us, and that must be paid for..."

The Minister of War is proposing an embargo against the Jewish nation, along with a suit to have that government re-pay all debts incurred by the Cookish military during their stay in Akka. This combined with the unrest to our west in New Edom with their civil war entering its third week paints a dire picture for the Chancellor and our military. More on that on page 2.

Bandages and Bullets, All in the Name Of Charity Of Course...

Image
Cookish troops in North Lake are monitoring the western border with New Edom, waiting for fleeing rebels.

An inside source within our government leaked a document insinuating a possible Cookish intervention in the Edomite Civil War, which has ravaged the country for weeks now. The document lists concern about the safety of Cookish humanitarian workers, along with fears that rebel Monarchists may capture Fineberg from government forces within the next week.

"The lack of willingness on the side of the rebels to communicate with outside forces shows absolute confidence in their upcoming victory, we must act in a more direct fashion to prevent them from seizing New Edom's capital."

The Free Congress and Sif Finnhald have been battling the separatists for almost a month now, and the battle is expected to rage on much longer...unless the Cookish intervene, is what our higher-ups seem to be thinking.

The man who leaked this document, who will remained unnamed (per the federal Law of Criminal Anonymity), was arrested today by authorities within the War Ministry on charges of Treason and Negligent Espionage. The government has refused to comment on his upcoming trial, or publicize where it will take place. However, due to the Freedom of Press Act of 1991, this information is permitted to be printed so long as the lives of Cookish troops and citizens are not directly or indirectly endangered. We must ask ourselves though, is an invasion too far off our moral compass? Is it right to crush those who rape and pillage, in the name of those which govern without clothes? Many questions are left unanswered, and CN&H will bring closure to these loose ends as soon as they receive them.

The Foreigners Leave A City Rejoices
Written by: HaRav Nassan Ben Havakuk HaSopher

Citizens of Akko celebrating after they heard the news that the foreigners were leaving.

Today, the news had been made public to the citizens of Akko that the navy base which held Cookish soldiers and their family was being disbanded; it has been fifty years since the establishment of the treaty which permitted the construction of the base.

"From day one the people were against it, I remember my parents always telling me not to go over to that side of the city," one of the citizens who was celebrating told reporters.

The cities is filled with and air of jubilee and rejoicing, large gatherings of people dance in the street and take part in large feasts in which songs of jubilation and victory are sung.

So far the only person we have been able to receive a comment from was the foreign minister, Deputy High Priest Yosef Bar Kufya had this to say:

"Today is an exciting day for Menassa, it would appear that we have worked well with the Cookish and yes both nations have contributed greatly to each other but there is times were that must end. As the holy book describes that when Israel was promised riches and happiness if he traveled with Esav he instead chose the righteous path, wen on his own way, and instead traveled with god. We too must abandon Esav and travel on our own, while we are very grateful and appreciative of the sacrifices and assistance of the Cookish peoples we still must send them on their way with our parting blessing."

When asked about the money which had been given to the Menassian military by the Cookish states during the years the treaty was intact he had this to say:

"No money will be returned, while this may not sit well with the international community it says in the treaty, which is not to be fully disclosed, that money given was to be a donation. Therefore requiring no return compensation, I would now like to thank the citizens of Akko and apologies to them if, for the past fifty years the treaty had caused them any harm."

National Democrats, Progressives clash over Dengali!

Postby Late Roman Empire » Sat Jul 28, 2012 7:42 am

Constantinople Times

Article by: Decimus Mardonius

Pro-government National Democrats and the opposition Progressive Left coalition are now quarreling over the Emperor's decision to send a joint Roman-Draconian force to Dengali to prevent "third parties from interfering with the national sovereignty of said nation". The issue is apparently not the mission itself, but the idea of sending troops at the request of the Shrailleeni Empire, a nation whose sexist policies have much of the Empire in a state ranging from mild displeasure to outright disgust.

Said Basileus Caesareus, Chairman of the Progressive Left bloc in the Constituent Assembly, "We cannot simply stand by while our boys are used as cannon fodder by an oppressive matriarchy that treats its own men as children. This cannot be allowed. It is likely to be due to chicanery or ulterior motives, but we will not ignore the improper influence of the Shrai in our councils of government. They, like the vile Free Congress theocrats in New Edom, should have no say in our foreign policy at all."

National Democratic Chairman Lucius Salvius Falco, however, shot back, "The men of the legions of our glorious Empire are never mere cannon fodder. They do not go in vain. Nor are they pawns, nor is the Augustus a pawn, nor the Caesar, of the Shrai or the Free Congress, or anyone else. This is the imperial prerogative of command, exercised by our head of state, as it should be, for the good of Man in general and the Empire in particular. Augustus does not act as a vassal, nor as an overlord, but as a partner and ally of these nations and governments. We are friends, not servants or masters. Our friends across the aisle are being a bit fast and loose with the truth and they should recall that lies only abuse the public trust and will be recalled later at the ballot box."

It is likely to be one of many quarrels and clashes in the Constituent Assembly over this issue, despite not being germane to the process of drafting a constitution, the proper work of said legislative body. Thus the pompousness of politicians, an eternal constant in all nations throughout history.

Cookish News And Happenings

A Startling Offer!

Image
Hammond Stingley, striker for the Cookish Conquistadors flaunting his cash. It seems as though our government has been mimicking his stance on frivilous money spending.

"Hamsting" is known for spending ridiculous amounts of money on next to nothing, with his million dollar vehicles, and seven houses across the five States and Puerto Cocinar.

Our government, until recently, was not known for these habits. But, according to the publication on the website of the treasury (which must list all donations to foreign entities) has offered nearly three billion dollars to the Roman political party, the Progressive Left Bloc. Paustain said earlier today that he didn't ratify the donation, but that Congress does have the authority to override the Chancellors wishes in matters of finance. The Chancellor said in the same statement...

"What we've got is Congress, meeting privately and tossing money to people they think will help us. I personally think the donation stinks of corruption, but you voters just remember that on election day November 28th. Don't elect politicians that are going to spend your money like it's daddy's debit card."

Most seem to think we'd all do good by our leaders advice, but still, the question hangs: Congress, why all the money to a Roman political party?
Oh, is this sig supposed to make you laugh?

"Hello, this is IBS Weekend News Brief. I'm your anchor, Justina Sylvia. Reporting live from Constantinople, near the beautiful Anastasium.

"Imperator Caesar Decentius Augustus has been rushed to the emergency room after collapsing in the middle of a High Mass at the St. Ignatius Cathedral in Constantinople. Last rites were performed and the latest reports state 'strong suspicion of an aneurism in the brain'. Undisclosed sources suggest that this may have aggravated the symptoms of his confirmed Alzheimer's disease, impeding cognitive function and impairing judgment, motor skills, and balance.

"The Sacred Palace has yet to comment on his condition, except to admit that it is 'grave and could well deteriorate further'. Father Adrian, the Emperor's personal chaplain and confessor, has said only that,'the Augustus was lucid for short intervals, including a period long enough for a confession and the receipt of the sacraments.'

"Unconfirmed reports that the Emperor may in fact be dead have not yet been acknowledged by the Sacred Palace.

Update Bulletin!

"Sorry, this just in. The Emperor is dead. I repeat. Flavius Sabinus Decentius, Augustus, Emperor of the Romans, and Lord of the World, has died of a ruptured aneurism in his brain. He was 57 years of age. His will has been sent to the Sacred Consistory for its perusal and the executor will be notified. A grand wake has been scheduled for tomorrow, with his proper funeral mass on Sunday.

"I am sure that we will all pray for his soul and mourn his passing with great sorrow at this national loss.

"As of today, the 39 year old consul and Caesar, Publius Marcius Valerianus, presently commanding a joint Roman-Draconian force in New Edom, has succeeded to the Dominate. He is Augustus et Dominus Noster, the new Emperor of the Late Roman Empire.

FINEBERG TIMES

FUNERAL AND FIREFIGHTS
Emperor's Death Mourned Even as Fighting Continues

by Annabelle Barca

Funeral Ceremonies for Emperor of Late Roman Empire

FINEBERG, New Edom — In spite of fighting continuing within Fineberg and rebel forces advancing, the Free Congress and loyal citizens took time to honour New Edom's newest ally by paying respects to the Imperator Caesar Decentius Augustus in a public spectacle outside Betharan Palace.

According to Attorney-General Sarah Carmel, "We were instructed by our President, Sif Finnhald, to honour this good and wise man who in spite of our nation being in the most difficult position chose to risk his own in supporting us no matter what. He will never be forgotten. He was a good man who had suffered much, and by this suffering had learned great compassion and wisdom which only enhanced his strength as a ruler."

Even as the funeral proceeded, ETC miitia, allied forces and regular forces continued their actions in the defense of loyalist rule of Fineberg. It is profoundly hoped that the efforts of the late Emperor will not have been in vain.
