The Sovereign League (Slavery Alliance)

Postby The Black Plains » Wed Jul 25, 2012 6:01 pm

(OOC: Slaver Alliance? Slaver Alliance. Non-Slavers ARE allowed.)

After lengthy meetings, summits, diplomatic overtures, and several crazy nights out on the town that we all regretted, officials in Vakolic, the Federation of Des-Bal, and the Security Syndicate of the Black Plains have decided it to be in the best interests of their respective bodies to form the Sovereign League. Vakolic founded it for duty and honor. The Security Syndicate agreed because its analysts deemed the increase in exports from such a body to be profitable. The Federation signed on for a combination of both reasons. And the Sovereign League was formed. The first thing that the founders did was draft a League Compact: something to act as a diplomatic statement as well as a document for members of the League to abide by. Then they had to designate a capital for the League. Originally, it was decided that the League Headquarters would be in Free Thallia, The Black Plains due to its central location. But due to... rampant security risks this option was decided against. The Vakolicci wanted it to be in Iros while the Des-Bali delegation pushed hard for Des-Hagir. In the end, by some means or another, it was decided that the League Capital would switch every year, starting first in Iros and later moving to Des-Hagir. Free Thallia was decidedly left out of the equation. Recent bombings in the city did not leave the delegates uncertain of their decision.

Despite the obvious intent of the League, the Compact does not once mention slavery. Quite ironic. But only a wink and a nod are required to make one read between the lines. So, do you need a pen?

Article One: Beliefs

Section One: National Sovereignty
It is the belief of the Sovereign League that each nation or other entity therein has complete sovereignty over its borders, inhabitants, and resources. This is not to be construed as an endorsement or commendation of the actions of all member states rather the recognition of their right to perform them. It is viewed as a crime for any other nation to impose via force, threat of force, or diplomatic sanction its morality or any other belief on any other nation.

Section Two: Intercession
Intercession in the affairs of a sovereign state by force except is an act of war justified by retaliation or the protection of a state’s sovereignty from imposition by outside forces particularly when visited upon a member state.

Article Two: Expectations

Section One: Aid
Member nations are expected to aid other member nations militarily if their national sovereignty is violated by another nation insofar as that nation is reasonably able to do so without imperilling their own sovereign soil. This includes sending forces and aid such as food, clothing, other vittles, currency, etc etc.

Section Two: Intra-Membership Disputes
Fraternity being chief among our greatest loves, use of military force against another member state is strictly prohibited. Diplomacy is favorable in all circumstances but barring any type of mutual agreement being reasonably possible a Founder state may step in to resolve disputes via arbitration.

Section Three: A United Front
Members are expected to join the Sovereign League in all its military ventures, provided that they are able to without endangering their own sovereignty. The chief expectation is that members ought to provide as much assistance to the war effort as
they are able to do so without damaging their nation as an entity.

Article Three: League Structure

Section One: Acceptance and Denial of Entry
All applicants to the Sovereign League will undergo a review process determined
by the founding members. The exact details of how the founding members go about
determining entrance will remain secret and votes are private, but what we look for in a nation are as follows:
A demonstrated love of national sovereignty.
An ability to defend said sovereignty.
A familiarity with the governing rules of the organization.
A pride in the association with other sovereign nations in the League.
Decent national behavior in the international sphere.
(OOC: Decent roleplaying.)

Section Two: Founding Members
The four founding members will make up the governance of the League Body.
Members may make whatever committees, sub-structures, and organizations within the
League as they may desire without the sanction of the Founding Members, but they will
only have as much power as the nations that make it up.
(OOC: All decisions of official League policy must be made unanimously amongst
the Founding Members.)

Section Three: Dismissal
A nation may be dismissed from the League upon a unanimous vote of the
Founding Members and a simple majority vote of the general body of members.

Section Four: War
Recognizing the hostility of the world stage there will exist concrete procedures to decide the circumstances in which war the organization will go to war. There must be
a simple majority among members and a unanimous decision by the Founder States to justify full mobilization of resources against foreign threat. Lacking this there is no formal expectation for one member state to assist another directly or indirectly in war, though they are certainly encouraged to do so.

Those who would like to join are classified into these groups:
Economic Observers: Receive economic support from the League and are expected to grant only economic support.

Military Members: Receive only military support from the League and are expected to grant only military support.

Full Members: Receive the benefits and expectations of both Economic Observers and Military Members.

Protectorates: Receive the protection of the League. Must make a valid case for not being able to protect themselves.

Freedom, such a glorious word. May all come one day to recognize it's utility, to love freedom so much that they stay in their own backyards and allow others to do as they will in their own. In this sentiment the federation of Des-Bal offers to all new members a commemorative gold-plated silver embossed Red Devil Enterprises "Freedom" series .50 Caliber Revolver engraved on one side "Fidelity" and on the other "Fraternity" as a token of our lasting cooperation. I look forward to many years of camraderie.

What are your feelings on roleplaying? I.E. How should it be conducted? Go into as much depth as you feel necessary to convey your opinion:
Post length should be moderate (not one-liners but not huge wall of text either); outcome of wars should be pre-determined; I don't think that very detailed descriptions of technology should be necessary, I'd like to be able to classify weapons not by their design (because I don't want to get involved with the technical aspects of tanks and stuff) but by the intent of their design, for instance whether a weapon focuses on cost (cheap but low quality), value (high bang for the buck but higher cost than cheap weapon), or quality (very effective but even more costly).

Uhm...? If you want to? If we feel we need them we can just search them. Honestly it takes very little work. And I feel kind of like a CIA agent looking someone up in a database while I do. I just felt like the "Post your Rp's" thing was a must-have for any alliance.

... Addressed. On another note, Stedicules, welcome to the League. Nakaresh, you are admitted on the contingent that sometime in the next month you start and show some progress on a decent roleplay with one other person. You don't have to finish it in the next month. If you'd like I can do one with you on a topic of your choosing.

What are your feelings on roleplaying? I.E. How should it be conducted? Go into as much depth as you feel necessary to convey your opinion: Roleplaying should be less about arguing and more about developing a fantastic yet realistic story that everyone enjoys reading and writing about. No one likes a God mod, but no one likes a strict realist either. NS is a game. Furthermore, people should use correct grammar and put effort into their posts and characters.

Nation Name: The Kingdom of Marsenbeurg
Form of Government: constitutional monarchy, parliamentary democracy
Stance on Slavery: Ambivalent, but we've never formally banned it or anything. Besides, we're all for national sovereignty.
Former RPs (post as many as you feel like): Could I also be admitted on the same contingent as Nakaresh? :3
Were you a member of IASEN at any time?: No.
Give a brief list of alliances you are active in.: None.
Type of membership you'd like: Economic Observer.

EDIT - Thoughts on RPs: First and foremost, RPs should be enjoyable and realistic. For character RPing, I try to have my characters not only as a deus ex machina mouthpiece, but "realistic" through a believable personality and faults. It gets more complex with diplomacy and war; I like to put considerable amounts of research into what I'm doing.

As such, I usually gravitate towards storefronts and communiques, where I'm not pressured too hard for time. In wars, I will most likely ask for a map, geographic information, and a realistic ORBAT. I usually let character RPs run their course with little to no planning on whatever interests me at the time, but I usually only participate in wars with RPers I find decent in both OoC personality and writing skill, that have a OoC/planning thread, maps of both the nation/region and individual towns/city blocks/buildings (depending on the scale of the conflict). I find this kind of detail-oriented style fascinating.

That, and I'm a proponent of proper English usage. This edit has been brought to you on an iPod.

Roleplays should be planned and have rules however the guidelines shouldn't be overtly constricting; the story should be able to be pushed in different directions by each party. Roleplaying shouldn't be about moving down a linear path to a predefined goal. The road must have twists and turns and the end shouldn't always be clear, even if a goal is set in stone. Standard RP rules, spelling, grammar, godmodding, length, realism, should also apply and be adhered to at all times.

However, we have a lot of IC content on this thread also. Every alliance picks up a bit of ooc clutter through time: it'd one of the things you'll come to realise in ns.
