After ousting the defending champion in an energy-efficient semifinal tie, Edmonton United have booked their ticket to Dalenderain to become the first Valladar club other than the famed Fontvielle Impact to reach the Champions’ Cup final. There they will face Sonoma Center Panthers, who likewise are not the best-known club from their association (you have one and only one chance to guess who that is; your time starts now). This will be the Panthers’ fourth time playing for club football’s top prize, though they’ve won it only once; their most recent appearance was their crushing defeat by the Impact the last time the final was played in Mangolana.

Phoenigetuzstha Divizia Nationala

The fourth season of the Phoenigetuzstha Divizia Nationala got underway, with a huge shake-up of the league, designed to make it more competitive. Thus, the second league was disbanded, and selected clubs from the lower two divisions earned themselves a place in the Divizia Nationala. In total, 20 teams contested the title, and competition was more fierce than ever due to the small amount of spots, and larger amount of teams. It was generally believed that this year, Phoenigetuzsthan teams could bring the nation success, in what was perceived as a reasonable attempt at improving Phoenigetuzstha's coefficient last season, especially in the Globe Cup.

Relegation was also changed, the bottom two teams being relegated automatically, and being replaced by the two teams which earned enough coefficient points in the lower leagues to be promoted. This is decided by the PFA (Phoenigetuzsthan Football Association). Furthermore, Gaituzsthan clubs were admitted, due to their only being 5 professional teams in their nation. Thus, we see Hajituza FC in the Divizia Nationala, the only club from Gaituzstha to qualify.

Various transfers took place, too many to mention, but we still see a completely Phoenigetuzsthan line-up in each and every team, with absolutely no outside exchanges. In other financial related matters, the original Divizia Nationala clubs had their values published by the PFA, and are as follows:
AC Regia Artadates: £17,560,000
Olimpia Tyreebi: £8,300,000
AZAL Artadates: £6,790,000
FC Zimbru Asisuus: £3,150,000
Inter Novi Xan: £1,932,000
Tanitas Aleshera: £1,450,000
Torpedo Okhtepes Oztenza: £785,000
KA Assyriarcha: £535,000

With this information, the season kicks off!
WHF5: 1st (24 points)
WHF6: 15th (7 points)
WHF7: 7th (24 points)
WHF8: 5th (29 points)
WHF9: 13th (13 points)
WHF10: 4th (31 points)
WV20: 6th (75 points)
WV21: 9th (72 points)
WV22: 4th (135 points)

Gordonopia Premier League
2014 Season Preview

As the Empire gears up for the third season of the Gordonopia Premier League, fans throughout the nation and the world are preparing themselves for what could be the most exciting season yet.

With a respectable WCC cycle now out of the way, the Gordonopia's best will be able to better focus on GPL play. The returning squad also brings with it experience and knowledge that can only be acquired at the international level, and the teams they play for will certainly benefit.

Even more impressive since the last season has been the performance of Gordonopian clubs in UICA competition. Following a decent performance last year, Gordonopian clubs kicked it into high gear, earning the tenth most qualification points of any federation, and the most for any federation out of the top fifteen. This performance helped skyrocket the Gordonopia Football Federation from 53rd in the world to 35th, bringing it to the cusp of earning two Champions Cup spots.

Teams to Watch

FC Deska
Once again, the Northern Wall is a favorite to win both the league and the cup. Following a somewhat disappointing 5th place finish in the 2013 regular season, partly due to the fact that half of the team's starting defense also started on the concurrently playing national squad, the team managed to take 3rd for the second year in a row in the Gordonopia Cup. This year, though, coming off of an impressive run in the Globe Cup that saw the team make it to the Group Stage, and with the first batch of internationals mixing in with the roster, the team may finally lift its first GPL-era Cup. Adding on to the sense of urgency is the fact that captain and goalkeeper, Ludwig Strauss, who is the league's only big name star still playing from the Republican era, has stated that this will be his last season.

Latimere United
After placing 3rd in the 2013 regular season, and hoisting the Gordonopia Cup over their bitter rivals, Kaje Football, Latimere United already had a lot of momentum going into this year. After a respectable performance in the Champions Cup that led to a quarterfinal berth in the Globe Cup, though, the team is poised to make an even stronger showing in the 2014 season. Will this be the first time the champions repeat?

Kaje Football
Despite an average performance in the Globe Cup, and a crushing loss to rivals Latimere United in the Gordonopia Cup Final, the dominant offensive team in the GPL remains one of the league's strongest. During the offseason, the team managed to secure one of the stronger international newcomers to the league with veteran fullback Joe Long now shoring up their back line. Better still is the news that star attacking midfielder Roman 'Galdinho' Galoslon, previously of Erathore, has just nationalized as a Gordonopian citizen. With that, he extended his contract with Kaje, securing the team's 'Dynamic Duo', along with striker Vonn Keller, for the future.

Kjeldor Knights
The black sheep of our teams to watch, the Knights managed to follow up their impressive 2012 season, one which saw them earn a semifinal spot in the Gordonopia Cup, with a disappointing 10th place finish in 2013. This year, they hope to turn that around. Not only is Golden Glove winning goalie Dale Keller returning, but the team's starting lineup is back to full form, following an injury plagued 2013. As long as the team can stay healthy, it will certainly be a contender throughout the year.

Preview: Club Expectations - The Big Five

Before the season kicks off, let us look at some of the big teams, and assess their potential finishes in the season. This overview will not look at all clubs, mainly due to limitations in information, but we will look at the larger clubs, those known as 'The Big Five' which have dominated the league in the past few seasons. This is so that people can get a more in depth perception of how their team will perform over the season, and maybe so they can heighten, or lower their expectations.

AC Regia Artadates
Image

Full Name: Athletic Club Regia Artadates
Ground: Didoan Foundation Stadium
Last Season Finish: 1st
Predicted Finish: 1st

AC Regia Artadates are the most successful team in the league, and the only team to ever win the Phoenigetuzstha Divizia Nationala, that is because they have won it three times in a row. With no major changes to this set up, AC Regia Artadates should make this year their fourth successive title, and, if they don't, then they will probably find their manager, Damtibel Ghammitas out of a job. Their offence usually sees them through, but with the huge youth investment coming from Olimpia Tyreebi, they may be pushed to the wire, but, for the Regia fans, the team must perform how they can, and not think they have this in the bag, and then they'll succeed.

Olimpia Tyreebi
Image

Full Name: Olimpia Tyreebi Football
Ground: Tyreebiad Stadium
Last Season Finish: 3rd
Predicted Finish: 2nd

Having always been a competitive team, Olimpia Tyreebi have never placed outside the top 4 in the league, with their best result coming two seasons ago, when they finished second. They have invested a lot of money in their youth development, and for the first season ever, look like a genuine contender for the title. While it would be unwise to get the fans hopes up for a title in the league, they will give a good showing and are almost certain of retaining a top four finish that all the teams so desperately crave.

Torpedo Okhtepes Oztenza
Image

Full Name: Torpedo Okhtepes Oztenza
Ground: Ezhdar Meidân
Last Season Finish: 2nd
Predicted Finish: 3rd

Torpedo are the over achievers in the Divizia Nationala. Finishing 2nd on two occasions over the three seasons of the league, they are believed to be the huge underdog to succeed every year, but still, miraculously manage to. Their pitiful financial status used to be their weakness, but with a small investment from one of the Queen's nephews, they have been invigorated, and for once, they too, like Olimpia Tyreebi, look like a contender. Their impressive defence will be the key to their success, and the owners haven't bothered to change the starting four at the back, a very wise decision. We will see how it plays out then, over the season, and whether any royal backing as helped them or not.

FC Zimbru Asisuus
Image

Full Name: Football Club Zimbru Asisuus
Ground: Zargale Arena
Last Season Finish: 4th
Predicted Finish: 4th

Zimbru Asisuus in the past have looked like title contenders, leading the first league until it came down to the Championship Group, were they floundered, and finished 3rd overall. Since then, they have failed to replicate such form, finishing 5th and 4th the past two seasons. While a reasonably successful (In Phoenigetuzsthan terms) run in the Globe Cup was witnessed, it still remains to be known when they will become great again, like they were on the very first season. A number of international backers have been interested in the club, but the current owners, who are well liked by the fans have issued a hands of warning and are staying put. Only time will tell if this was the right decision.

Inter Novi Xan
Image

Full Name: English: International New Xan, Phoenigetuzsthan: Bein Ol-Melali Novi Xan
Ground: Mostarad Ja
Last Season Finish: 5th
Predicted Finish: 5th

Out of "The Big Five" Inter Novi Xan is the least successful, finishing 5th on two occasions. They are clearly weaker than the other members, but are still head and shoulders above the other teams in the league. Being realistic, they should comfortably secure fifth, and if lucky, may push Zimbru for fourth, but that seems, as the club is, unlikely. They, like Olimpia Tyreebi, have many youth prospects, but these are under developed, and are unlikely to have an impact for a few seasons, and they'll have to rely on their experienced signings.

THE SEASON

20 Ba'alikk Novi Xan 38 5 12 21 40 77 -37 27 (Relegated)

So, as we can see, Olimpia Tyreebi has ended AC Regia Artadates reign as champion. So, the qualifiers are:

Champions Cup: Olimpia Tyreebi
Globe Cup: AC Regia Artadates, Torpedo Okhtepes Oztenza, FC Zimbru Asisuus

The 16th Cygnus Cup sees the number of entrants skyrocket to 46 from 45 associations, breaking the old mark by 8 teams and 7 associations. AS Bezieres, the title holders, qualified as defending champions despite not qualifying through the Valladar cup system.

With an even number of teams involved, there will once again be no complicated qualifying rounds. There will be 28 teams taking part in a Playoff Round, with the remaining 18 teams qualifying directly to the first round.

The final of Cygnus Cup 16 will be held at Estadio Prosperea, Ciudaga (AGU), capacity 70,000.

The 2014 season of the Gordonopia Premier League is now under way, and a mere ten weeks into the season fans have already had their share of both expected results and big surprises.

To the surprise of few, FC Deska currently sits atop the standings by a comfortable seven points, with an impressive 8-1-1 stretch, with their only loss coming on opening night. The run equals last year's performance from Kaje Football, which ultimately won the regular season. One notable aspect of this run, on top of the stellar defense typically displayed by the 'Northern Wall', is the fact that Deska seems to have finally found some offensive kick. Their 18 goals puts them five above any of their previous season starts, with three goals scored in three of their matches so far, on top of their five clean sheets. The success so far seems to come from the team as a whole, rather than one or a few standout players. The young Martin Mallorn, in his third season with the Wall, is so far showing that he may be the best striker to come out of the Deska academy in years, if not ever. Captain Ludwig Strauss is showing why he has remained a fixture in the Deska and National Team goal for twenty years with a performance perhaps better than his Golden Glove-winning effort in 2012. The defensive line as a whole is performing as well as any point in the team's storied history, with notable examples including national team starters Roger Steiner and Lane Franz, who have played every minute this season, and Mangolanan international Alex Wesley, who is so far shaping up to be the best foreign newcomer this year. As long as the team can continue, or even come close, to their performance thus far, they could easily dominate the league for most of the season.

Another notable aspect at the top of the rankings is the sheer dominance of teams from the nation's two largest metro areas. Unlike in past seasons, where the front-runners have had a mix of small-city and territorial-based teams along with the big market contenders, all of the top six teams come from the nations largest markets, with three coming from the massive Capitol Metro Area alone: Gordonopia FC, FC Gordonopia City and Willingham AC. Rounding out this big-city dominance are the two teams from Greater Deska, FC Deska and Reinheim Metro (which was expected to be a middle flight team this season), and Reichsburg FC, from the Reichsburg-Holiday Metro Area. Of these teams, all but Reinheim are within a single win of one another, with the leader, Willingham, having played an extra game over the other three.

A big surprise thus far has been the sluggishness of two expected powerhouses: Kaje Football and Latimere United. The two teams sit at eighth and seventh places respectively, separated only by goals scored. Although this is still within post-season contention, the result is a far cry from the dominating performances expected from two of the league's best teams. Latimere began the season well, coming off a first matchday bye to win their first three games, before entering a rut in which they lost the next three. Kaje, meanwhile, had an abysmal performance in their first few games, but following a 3-0 victory over Latimere in the 5th week, have only lost a single match. Both teams certainly have the talent to move up in the rankings, but only time will tell whether or not that will happen.

An even bigger surprise, though, is the poor performance showed by two of the league's best squads: Teva FC and West Tolten. Both have remained consistent offensive threats, but thus far have showed an anemic performance on the defensive end. West, which is tied for third in the league for goals scored, with only nine games played, has a negative goal differential of two, while Teva has so far shown the worst goal difference in the league. Although it is too early to rule either of these contenders out, both teams will have to put in serious effort to dig themselves out of this early-season hole.

Moving on to individual performances, there are a number of contenders for the Golden Boot from a variety of teams, though three appear to be leading the pack. Orzaize Lizaran of Willingham AC, a Ittuributan striker, has so far earned an impressive eight goals, with three further assists. Deska's Martin Mallorn has equaled Lizaran in terms of goals, but with only one assist thus far. Finally, Gordon Brink, last year's winner, has earned seven goals, with six assists, making him a vital offensive asset for his team.

On the defensive end, the 38 year old Ludwig Strauss is currently the front runner, though several other keepers are nipping at his heels. Jonathon Hughes of Union Holiday, a newcomer from the National University of Gordonopia, is showing his team's defensive capabilities even without their former star goalie, Jeffery Street, who signed MS Leighton of Queer Poco el mono Ara following last season. However, unless Holiday can move much better offensively, they may be in serious danger of relegation. Additionally, Simon Swift out of München SV has shown a strong performance, with four clean sheets this season; one less than Deska's Strauss. However, Swift faces a similar issue as Hughes, with a team that can perform very well defensively, but packs little to no punch on the attack.

The lead changes by day...

Matchday One: Attereg, Nithgard, and Stroyfungul GU

First alphabetically are Attereg GU, hoping to recover from Tykel Marsinee's departure. They made a good showing at home against Brayntel, with Tash Mylee scoring early on in an attempt to break into the starting eleven, and Huste Leal adding insurance after halftime. Stroyf had an easy start visiting Rogglebo, with Toyvin Vish and Teav Rettin scoring early on. The second half was much better for the hosts, with Vofe Santee leading the defense, but not much adventure.

Nithgard shockingly scored three goals all at once, and just as shockingly are not sixth. Pesser Hast and Balgin Tyvay scored in the first half before small midfielder Pyp Lunas recorded unheralded Stirvik's first goal of the season. However, Moyer Lurint would give Nithgard another goal back, so they wind up two-goal winners as well.

Matchday Two: Stroyfungul GU, outright

It would have been very difficult for Attereg and Nithgard to remain joint leaders after the second matchday, because they were playing each other.

It was a pretty exciting match, with an excellent second half making up for a sloppy first half that had allowed Brantel Soroff and Hast to score. The second saw Klayf Brog give Kaynd the lead with a fortunate chip shot from the midfield (although they had controlled possession for the prior ten minutes, so it was not entirely undeserved) before Ipe Hengel gave the visitors a late equalizer.

This left Stroyfungul free to win by a pair again, which they did, Raysil McFree and Kaysor Enthrak easing past an Assertham still probably dazed about staying up.

Matchday Three: Ungalb Devsgrybe

The champions cometh? Once again, Brayntel were in the focus--for all the wrong reasons. We'd ask how their fans handeled Dotch Belken's utter implosion in goal, but, you know, Brayntel fans live in their own little world.

The first half at least was close, with Iles Maxik and Nayn scoring on opposite sides of a Moyer Kayns effort. His fellow on the national team (well, whenever we have/had one of those), Tearim Hayz, would score quickly to open the second half. And then Dorim Atik added another one, before Charden Maris' humiliatingly-long effort. Somehow Paykev Myder pulled one back for the visitors. And his religious bling will probably be appreciated more by Ungalb Devsgrybe fans than the Brayntel faithful-ish.

(Stroyf won also and are the only other perfect team, Doncher Maygul's goal putting them past Atteregav Numa; they're second on goal difference, though.)

Matchday Five: Stroyfungul GU

Your perntmakers of the first seventh are without question Brayntel TU. And that's really about all they're good for, with the worst defensive display in the league to date. Myder has put in his transfer offer, which is symbolic because ha, like we do transfers. (And all the Attereg GU fans exhale because at least no one can defect from the club now.)

In fairness, Devsgrybe's failing to win is probably just as influential here. They had Stivarnel GU well under control for a while thanks to a Nayn effort, before Talia Klyn equalized.

But to Kolpuung, where Stroyf actually had a very precarious time of it in a manner not inherently befitting, let us say for the purposes of argument, a side in the top half never mind title chasers. On paper it was a comeback; after the first half, Kayns had scored two to Rettin's one--yet, the hosts were by far the more confident side, and Vish eventually assisted Talia Wonker for the equalizer before a less natural pass to Maygul gave them the win.

Matchday Seven: Rogglebo TU

What?

Sure, there's been several overachievements from relatively new sides. But that doesn't mean we're used to it. Part of the problem is that Vofe Santee is really coming into his own as a leader at the (very crowded) back, rather than an individual who excels on his own, with Yels Hannoway still doing nothing on the bench. So it's hard to single out individual achievements.

Today, they relied on a goal from Rumee Dasser, a tall centralish defender who lopes forward on occasion and can't be really considered a wingback. Then, they scored an extra goal, just for kicks, from Nyp Brond, essentially a midfielder.

An extra goal.

Against Ousteeble TU.

Who are even more defensive than Rogglebo themselves.

This just doesn't happen.

Matchday Twelve: Ungalb Devsgrybe

Well, that lasted about half the season to date and also about half the season to date longer than anyone expected, but some normalcy has resumed. Rogglebo were defeated by another surprising team, Deahpild, who are now in the top half, in that nice "overachievement we can wrap our head around" place.

Today their fan base was excited if not contented. They needed to work early on before a long goal from a huffing Pask Trindor gave them the lead, only for Papint Luvelee to equalize after a defensive miscue from Norn Tovee. Stavin Bulris eventually won it for Deahpild, after a series of short passes from the midfield.

Devsgrybe took advantage, with Hayz scoring the only goal against Stirvik. Reaven Laynee is coming to see the issues with the three-points-for-a-win system, a sentiment she illustrates in traditionally elaborate prose, this involving arson, scarves, and flyswatters. Both clubs have equal defensive records, giving up just over a goal per game through the first third; Devsgrybe's offense is, unsurprisingly, far better.

And they stayed at the top of the table for a good long time, cuing many dire "males in threepeat" puns from the Devsgrybe press. We shall pause mid-run to the half-important

Halfway checkpoint

with a selection of games that may or may not foreshadow the end of the season.

Ungalb Devsgrybe's trip to Kolpuung was big; Stroyfungul started out tied for fifth, after tailing off from their hot start. Neither of these sides are known for defense, and yet, that was what was on display with the Gull pair in particular making several clearances for the hosts. Chalk some of it up to nerves on both sides--neither high-powered offense was really able to get up off the ground. No score.

Another big one was the Bloyben derby. This season has brought a new answer to the old question of "what if one goes down, what will the other do with themselves?" namely "maybe go down with them." They were seventeenth and eighteenth heading in, and the resulting draw was a moral victory for the hosts, who go clear of the drop zone on a messy tiebreaker with Stirvik and Ungalb Impodel (more on whom soon).

Those hosts, I shall clarify, were Stivarnel GU. And, fittingly, Lakee Varnel would be their goalscorer in the 37th minute. Ronthand equalized through Tanch Laygel, but that wasn't enough to escape the bottom of the table.

As for Impodel, well, at first they didn't look like much. Facing Ousteeble TU, they quickly conceded a goal to Paita Rinth and then settled down before miscommunication between Tavoy Noynis and Durint Longe let Aleash Allagondee through to score again.

But then they did something very surprising indeed. Ranthit Tearlilee scored a goal. Against Ousteeble.

That joins the two Rogglebo scored against them on Matchday Seven for a grand first-half total of, um, three.

Moving on.

Matchday Twenty-four: Ousteeble TU

They'd been tied since matchday twenty, but Devsgrybe's goal difference proved too much to make up. At first. But Ousteeble got their job done, with a Neahat Layn goal getting revenge on Rogglebo.

This meant that Devsgrybe slipped up, and how. Brandith GU's impressive survival hasn't received as much coverage as some other teams', mostly because their players seem too evilish/under the control of evilish managers to ever be called up to the national team. And yes, maybe there's something in that; Maxik was at best unlucky to be called offsides early on, Buug Mylee's shot might not have crossed the line, Kayv Rashith might have added a second goal had he not been yellow-carded...but all the same, there's no excuse for how the defense seemed to give up in the second half. Tarn Meanlee scored a brace, and Dosin Langer tacked on another one with Devsgrybe futile. It's not clear what it would have looked like had they been more obviously trying--maybe just "out of position," with the implication that at least the defenders meant to run somewhere.

So Ousteeble took the lead, and in the lead they stayed. Devsgrybe lost their next two, to Brantslaybel and Ungalb Impodel, but slowly recovered, preventing Ousteeble from outright putting the title away.

We take you now to matchday thirty-four.

Ousteeble lead by one; a win against Impodel (seventeenth and doomed) will secure the win, and a draw will suffice unless Devsgrybe win against Stroyfungul (in a big tie for seventh, underwhelming after last season's expectations and their start, but whaddaya do?)

6 minutes: First goal of the day comes for Drenda Munge of Stivarnel, whose crosstown rivals are throwing them a "you're going to be last whatever happens" party. Maybe some consolation. Oh well. A fresh wave of invective taunts from the Ronthand fans begins, in spite of this. Or perhaps because.
13 minutes: Even less relevance from Tash Mylee scoring for Attereg GU against Ungalb Gultpyret. He's been one of the breakout rookies of this year--slowly, Dagin Hender is earning the fans' trust, and this has helped.
19 minutes: A bit of nidjing action. Padig Mune elegantly assists his nidjlome Ruva Klyg, who scores for Nithgard against Deahpild. Beautiful stuff from the youngsters, though nothing novel--you have to wonder whether Nithgard will ever come up with anything new.
20 minutes: As I was typing that up, Sylev Reands has equalized in the Bloyben derby. Unnecessary delirium for the host fans, numbness for the visitors.
21 minutes: Goal in a relevant match! Brantslaybel began the day in a Globe Cup spot on goal difference, but have fallen behind thanks to a penalty kick from Dess Hean of Brandith. Meanlee was probably diving. Oh well.
26 minutes: Talia Klyn gives Stivarnel the lead in the derby once again, trying to rally the side. Not sure how much good is done now but then again, they're playing for pride, they want this.
28 minutes: Goal! It's Dorim Atik putting Ungalb Devsgrybe in front! And that would leave them in first overall. Ousteeble want Stroyf to equalize, or could settle for scoring against Impodel, aka the worst defense in the league.
31 minutes: As they say in Kukalaya, the goals have ingeminated. First is Teaden Amsee scoring for Devsgrybe to make it a lot harder for Stroyf to come back now--Ousteeble will have to win this title themselves. And there's another goal, and the second equalizer for Ronthand, this thanks to Nays Dearan.
32 minutes: Ingemination, ingeminated. Remember how Brantslaybel fell behind? Well, the team they were tied with, Rogglebo, found themselves in the same position courtesy of Moyna Hayris of Assertham. After surprising themselves by surviving last season, they're almost safe now, though could struggle if Stirvik beat Brayntel. Well, not to be outdone, little Rogglebo went and tied it right back up, thanks to Joundra Hylee. I mean, right off the restart. Oops.
35 minutes: Momentum. It's a thing. Rogglebo decide that perhaps winning would help their cause (and if Hannoway came up with this stratagem it'll be her greatest contribution of the season perhaps), and duly score through Luvelee.
37 minutes: Ingemination to the whateverth power! Assertham were vaguely concerned that Stirvik could beat Brayntel, but Brayntel (secure in third place) make that harder by scoring through Paghif Bell. Somewhat like last season, Assertham try and show that they don't need the help, with Nayz Harsith tying up their game. That's four goals in five minutes for two teams closer to Ousteeble (stylistically) than to neutral play. What is this madness.
43 minutes: Talia Klyn is holding this team together. Or trying to. An assist gives Munge a brace and provokes some appreciative applause from the visitors. The hosts appear to be throwing more food than usual at them...
44 minutes: Off the restart! And it's Lakee Varnel who comes through again, blazing past a bewildered Arbis Kakyl and leaving Ronthand no chance. Okay, now Stivarnel fans are enjoying it.
45+1 minutes: This could be big.

It is a goal for Tarbor Lyk of Deahpild.

And it has knocked Nithgard GU out of sixth place.

Will wonders never cease...
51 minutes: We return with Stevin Hasper scoring, um, Ungalb Devsgrybe's third goal against Stroyfungul. Ousteeble, any time you want to start winning would probably be good...
59 minutes: Vivid Hyf equalizes for Ungalb Gultpyret against Attereg. Tempo increasing a little for Ousteeble. Still no score there.
61 minutes: Midfielder Meltee Peskin gives Deahpild their lead back. Say what you will about the fans but he's been great for them this season, well deserving of a callup. Come to think of it that could be more desperation than anything else for Ousteeble.
65 minutes: Okay, um, Enthrak puts Stroyf on the scoreboard. Sure, they ran wild last season when it meant nothing, but it has to be too late for them to come back now. Doesn't it?
67 minutes: Mylee has grabbed a second for Attereg, assisted by Hengel. That's probably nice.
80 minutes: Bit of a quieter second half, hasn't it been? Ousteeble trying not to look at the scoreboard anymore, Impodel know what they're doing now and have stepped it up a notch. Stroyfungul not so much doing well on defense, but Devsgrybe are playing it a little more conservatively now. Also, Hast has scored for Nithgard.
82 minutes: Things calmed down for Assertham-Rogglebo in spite, or perhaps because, of that first-half spurt, no changes in the Globe Cup representation either it seems. Unless Devsgrybe get knocked down there...Gelp Rofazh scoring for Attereg GU now.
85 minutes: Attereg are enjoying this now, it's a hat trick for young Mylee.
88 minutes: And in spite of that they can't even score the last goal for their own city! Tayrin Blume gets Numa on the board against Perntav Marna.
90 minutes: And nothing else in Bloyben in spite of their first half, either. Stivarnel win the battle and lose the war. Unless Ronthand have nothing to play for next season and so they both lose the war. Um. That doesn't make sense. Is anything going to happen for Ousteeble?
90+minutes: No.

Promoted:
Retatyn TU: The Green Dots of Dyma Konga are actually closer to teal, but no one is looking too closely. Retatyn is an interesting small town, whose residents tend to embrace immigrant-style enthusiasm as opposed to staider liturgy, but are more or less all Earental old stock.
Ungalb Tratbongent: The dockworkers return, as defensive as ever.
Kolpuung GU: Honestly known for their facilities in other sports. Very nice swimming pool and tennis courts if you're into that kind of thing. Not much in the way of football to date, though.

I can't take credit for all the ideas here--some of them are other people's but they've let me run with them.

With the conclusion of the 2014 second leg, it seems that a pattern, or perhaps a curse, is appearing in the GPL.

Although Deska has managed to cling to its lead by a single point over historic rival Gordonopia FC, its gaping seven point lead from the first leg has been nearly released. This comes on the back of a 3-4-2 performance over the ten weeks, a far cry from the 8-1-1 effort seen throughout the first ten. This rapid drop, though, is not without precedent, and in fact seems to follow the pattern established by the league's early leaders throughout its first seasons. In the inaugural 2012 season, Plains led the pack by a healthy three points following a 7-2-0 run in the first leg. By the end of the second leg, though, it had been passed by Reichsburg FC via goal difference thanks to a 3-3-4 result in the second leg. The team ultimately regained a solid lead after the third leg, but was narrowly passed up by FC Deska in the final four weeks. Similarly, Kaje football matched this year's 8-1-1 performance by FC Deska in the 2013 season, only to see that lead virtually erased as it went 4-2-3 from weeks 11-20. In the end, the team managed to hold itself together, and win the regular season by a margin of a single point.

Is this trend part of some superstitious 'leaders curse' in the middle weeks of the season? Or is it simply other teams figuring out how to play against the league's top squad? As the GPL continues, it will be interesting to see if this trend proliferates, and is FC Deska managed to repeat the late-leg performance of its predecessors.

Outside of the top spot, there has been a lot of movement in the table. The second, third and fourth places remain the same, although Gordonopia FC, which held the fourth spot following the tenth matchday, has switched places with Willingham AC, which previously held the second spot. Former fifth place FC Gordonopia City has fallen all the way to twelfth after an abysmal 2-1-7 run. Kaje Football has managed to move from 8th to 6th, while Teva FC has posted an impressive 6-1-3 streak to shoot from 15th to 7th. Several other teams, such as München SV and Union Holiday, have seen big changes from their first-leg standings.

The front-runners for individual awards have shifted somewhat since the conclusion of the first leg. Willingham AC's Orzaize Lizaran continues to impress, with 17 goals and five assists to his credit. Gordon Brink of Latimere United has continued to perform as well, though with 14 goals and seven assists he may be falling behind Lizaran. Coming new into the front runners is national team co-captain Norm Bates, the star attacking midfielder or West Tolten. Despite his team's miserable 14th place spot in the standings, West has managed to score more goals than any other team in the league. Bates has thus far earned eight to his credit, but also leads the league with an unbelievable 21 assists, making him involved in nearly 60% of his teams nets. Young Gordonopia FC striker Jonathon Turner also appears to be bubbling under, with 11 goals and three assists over the last leg, bringing his total to 14 and four.

For the Golden Glove, there appears to be only two contenders, with München SV's defense having a virtual meltdown compared to the first leg. Ludwig Strauss appears to be the front-runner, with a mere 14 goals against him and his team's stellar defense throughout the entire season. Union Holiday's Jonathon Hughes, meanwhile, has been a major factor in keeping his team down to 16 goals, which has certainly helped the team rise from 16th to 10th from the end of the last leg.

The final of Cygnus Cup 16 will be held at Estadio Prosperea, Ciudaga, Aguazul; capacity 70,000.

And here it is, the NSI post resuming around 60% of the season, for special reasons (OOC: I'll be moving to a new neighborhood.), the NSICA season will be not recorded and the NSI Cup will probably have less teams playing.

Cygnus Cup XVI

FINAL (at Estadio Prosperea, Ciudagua, Aguazul)
(VLD) AS Bezieres e 2–0 Sporting Iturributa (ITB) (0–0 FT)

Congratulations to Valladar team AS Bezieres, who successfully defend their title as the champion of national cup winners. They are the first team to do so since Raynor City United defended their Cygnus Cup 8 title in CYG9. Therefore they will play in Cygnus Cup 17 as defending champions, should they fail to qualify for it through the Valladar association's national or league cup.

With only four matchdays remaining in the regular season, the Gordonopia Premier League is as exciting as ever.

At the top of the table, well ahead of any other team, is perhaps the deepest rivalry in Gordonopian sports: FC Deska and Gordonopia FC. Throughout the days of the republic, the two teams constantly vied for the top spot using two contrasting styles of play. Now, Deska's defense and GFC's offense collide again at the top of the table, with Deska three points ahead, but with one game less to play. As they have throughout the season, Deska holds the top spot, thanks largely due to a stellar defensive performance that has seen them allow only four goals in ten games. Meanwhile, GFC has managed consistent scoring, getting shut out only once during the leg, and holding the league's second highest number of goals scored.

Below the top two, the number of points drops significantly, but because of this, virtually every team in the league still clings to a shot at the Gordonopia Cup. The seventh through twelfth place teams are within three points of one another, while even the current third-ranked squad, Reichsburg FC, could theoretically lose their berth in the Gordonopia Cup should they go on a bad losing streak over the final four games. No team is more evident of this mobility than West Tolten, who only ten weeks ago were mired at the fourteenth spot. The team now sits in fifth, following a series of stellar performances, including wins over top-ranked sides, including Gordonopia FC and FC Deska. The team is currently on a four game winning streak, and is 6-1-2 over the last leg.

Although a number of teams are still theoretically in danger of relegation, several sides are crossing their fingers more than others. In the most danger is München SV, which currently holds the bottom spot in the table, and will only play three of the four remaining games, with one bye week. The team is currently three points behind the next closest team, Bolsom Sport, which also has an extra game.

The leaders for individual awards are starting to become clear. For the Golden Glove, Ludwig Strauss is almost certainly the leader, having allowed only .62 goals per game throughout the entirety of the season. In terms of goals against, the next closest side of Union Holiday, who has seven more balls in the net than Deska.

The Golden Boot is a somewhat larger race, with several clear front-runners. Norm Bates of West Tolten appears to be the leader. Despite only having scored twelve goals, far fewer than the other top offensive men, Bates leads the league with a massive 30 assists; twice as many as any other player in the league. Jonathon Turner of Gordonopia FC, currently with 18 goals and five assists, has been a major factor in his teams continued presence near the top of the table. Several other strikers, including Orzaize Lizaran of Willingham AC and Gordon Brink of Latimere United are also in the running.

The ABPD is the top tier of Cybor Dutch football, it is contested by 16 sides from April to October. The current champions are FC Guingamp, who have also won the trophy the most times since its formation in 1992. There is a three team promotion-demotion swap between the ABPD and NatEc Div1. This year, SV Karbruner won the NatEc Div1 trophy, the Tragaan Bulls came second and Darlannia Veringt won the play-offs, after coming third.

FC Guingamp are the current holdrs and for a very good reason. They destroyed opposition on many occasions by slicing them open with inch perfect passes and crosses. After a thrilling final leg, capped by a stunning match between table leaders Gordonopia FC and FC Deska, the 2014 regular season of the Gordonopia Premier League has come to a close.

For the second time in three years, FC Deska has won the regular season, giving it not only a leg up going into the Gordonopia Cup, but a guaranteed ticket into UICA competition. Deska's victory was sealed in the final match of the regular season; a rivalry battle between second placed team Gordonopia FC, who going into the final match was tied with Deska at 59 points. The match ended up being a closely fought 1-0 win for the Northern Wall, who needed to either win or draw to top the table. As the team seeks to win its first Gordonopia Cup, its key to success will likely continue to be its defense. The team put in the best defensive performance in the history of the GPL, with only 19 goals against throughout the 32 games of the season.

For the remainder of the qualifiers for the post-season, the final leg held a mix of suspense and heartbreak. Kaje Football, following three wins and a draw in the final leg, jumped up to third place, putting them once again in a strong position for the Gordonopia Cup. Teva FC continued its climb following a rough season start to move into the fifth spot. Plains, after a disastrous 2014 season, managed to secure the sixth spot in the table with a Kaje-equaling performance. West Tolten earned the 8th spot with the strongest offense in the league, despite having a negative goal difference. Notably absent is Latimere United, last year's Gordonopia Cup winner, which narrowly missed the cutoff due to a final match draw with München SV.

On the relegation end is München SV in the 17th spot, which will be automatically demoted to Inter-Metro League, with its spot next year being taken by Basin Plain. Bolsom Sport will once again have a playoff match for a spot next year, facing off against Bellum Neu.

Finally, the two individual player awards have been announced:

Golden Boot - Norm Bates, 33, Latimere United - The hero of inner-city Tolten, Attacking Midfielder Norm Bates has won the Golden Boot thanks to a stellar offensive performance, leading the league's highest scoring team. With 13 goals on his sheet, Bates has scored less than most of the other frontrunners for the Boot, but with an unbelievable 31 assists, the selection of Bates is not a surprise. Bates is the first winner from West Tolten, and the victory will likely solidify his starting spot on the national team, as well as his spot as team captain for the upcoming world cup cycle.

Golden Glove - Ludwig Strauss, 39, FC Deska - In his last season, Ludwig Strauss has won the GPL Golden Glove for the second team, after leading FC DEska to the greatest defensive season in league history. With only 19 goals getting past Strauss over 32 games, Strauss smashed the chances of any competitor. Although the defensive lineup of Deska certainly simplified Strauss' job, the former National Team captain made a number of impressive saves throughout the year, including several penalty kick stops. In addition, 18 of Strauss' games were clean sheets, beating his Glove winning 2012 season by four. With a Golden Glove and regular season victory in his pocket, Strauss needs only a Gordonopia Cup win to complete an ideal final year.

    Inter-League Cup

The third annual Inter-League Cup has also been completed. The Cup, played between the winners of the eight regional leagues to determine promotion to the GPL and UICA entrants, had several notable aspects, including being the first year to sell out every game.

Because of the nature of the cup, the teams were a diverse mix of former GPL sides, second-tier powerhouses and underdogs. Tolven, for example, played in the inaugural GPL season before being relegated. Basin Plain, on the other hand, has established itself as a powerhouse in the second-tier, showing its talent in the most recent UICA Series B Championship where the team made it to the knockout stage. This contrasts greatly with sides like Forest Rangers, which comes from a small Gordonopian controlled city in the Great Forest.

After two rounds, the championship ultimately came down to a nailbiting fixture between Basin Plain and Bellum Neu. Basin won the River Basin League by a commanding league, and hails from the Reichsburg-Holiday Metro Area. Bellum Neu, meanwhile, is based in the Southern metropolis of New Bellum, where it won the Southern League. After 120 scoreless minutes, the game went to penalty kicks, which Basin won on the last kick, 5-4.

Basin will take the spot of München SV in the GPL, while Bellum Neu will play its metro-rival Bolsom Sport for another spot.

    First Round
    Riverside Works 2–3 Forest Rangers
    Basin Plain 2–1 Tolven
    Harbor Football 1–0 SC Kjiel
    Bellum Neu 2–0 Whitworth Provincial

    Semi-Finals

    Harbor Football 3–4 Bellum Neu

    Championship Match
Basin Plain 0–0 Bellum Neu (0–0 AET) (5–4 pen.)

    Greatest Strength: The midfield.
Greatest Weakness: The defense, especially during the counter-attack.
    Last Season's Finish: 4th Place.

    Overview of The Favorites:

Unbidden United will be the favorites to win this league for the second time in a row due to the all-star goalkeeper in Jonah Calhoun. Calhoun is only entering his prime and will most likely have another superb season. However, Calhoun isn't the only cause for optimism: The Unbidden also boast a strong defense and an opportune offense. The likes of Naisi Von Helz and Liam KarMichael will try to keep Jonah clean while Anatole Gagnon of Saugeais will join Wilson Bennett and Tamera Benson on the attack.

Breathing down their necks will be Noth Hampton City, who really spared no expense during the off-season to try to get any sort of advantage against their rivals, Unbidden United. Lucas Rodrigue is an interesting signing, while Park Sung-Hwan and soon-to-be-retired Quincy Demitrius-Adams will anchor the forward front. Jefferson Vickson's team defied all expectations by finishing in second place during the first season, and hence, observing how they play while under pressure of expectations will be an interesting facet of the season to watch.

It is unlikely that Unbidden and the Skys will trip too far down, but if they do, Freedom's Altar FC will be lying in wait. Nicknamed "Butter" due to their yellow and white jerseys, Isaac Hanson's side features a young core of players who will provide a lightning-quick transition game. The four games against Unbidden and the Skys will determine where The Lemons finish, but they will most likely be in charge of their own destiny. This team, if they click, has the chance to go a long ways.

New Hazingafar FC is another team starting to come to their own, with young players like Brianna Carheim and Rosanne Sörensen offering the excitement. They probably aren't a side good enough to win the title, but they shouldn't be ignored at all. Mario Hadeli is the best goalkeeper in the league not named Terrance or Jonah, and Thayer Evans has proved over and over again that he is capable of calling for half-time adjustments that win games.

Greatest Weakness: How everybody else will fit in.
Last Season's Finish: 2nd in Secondary Division.

    Overview of The Dark Horses:

Maybe putting Avengers United as the most likely Dark Horse is a reach. However, putting a side with Jane Vander Rox, Justinian Marquette, Henri Jean-Lafayette, and Victoria Hellion out of title contention talk is pure madness. This team will score goals and score them in bunches. They have the veteran presence in Jane, the young star in Henri and Victoria, the assist ability of Justinian... It will literally be the goalkeeping abilities of Harsha that will be the only drawback to this squad. They may look for an upgrade in the goalkeeping position in the mid-season trade deadline. Look for that.

Freedom's Altar United finished outside of a UICA berth last season, and getting to the UICA will be the primary goal for University United, thus named because they share FAU's stadium. Another goal for FAU will be to defeat Freedom's Altar FC, their bitter rivals. Though their technical ability and finesse is unparalleled, they lack the physical presence required to go far, and they also lack the killer instinct required to win close games. They will wow opponents with shots from afar, but if any team is truly physical with them, they won't go very far.

If one wishes to watch a truly interesting football team, watch Denal-Ithorn Warriors FC at The Palace of Past at Present. Sandoval Marrion has installed a system that uses six interchanging midfielders that separate the midfield into two zones and change their position in them at all times. This formation confuses other teams immensely, leading to numerous opportunities. However, Marrion's side does not have the one or two players that can turn opportunities to shots on goal, and that is why they finished in sixth place last year. Who will step up to take that role, or will the role go unfilled again?

Though a recently promoted team, opponents should not overlook New Hazingafar Knights. Roger, Vanasse, and Ilyeovich is a core that is as solid as any others in the league, and other coming stars like Chau Vargas and Lubomir Ericson provide this team with plenty of hope and optimism. If they can start playing as a cohesive unit and not "The three and the sidekicks", this team has the aptitude to surprise many teams in the coming season.

    Tarahal Lake Athletic
    Colors: Olive green and black
    Nickname: Lake Athletic, Tarahal Lake
    Manager: Bice Glaisyer

Greatest Strength: The ironclad defense that doesn't give up many goals.
Greatest Weakness: Lack of an offensive presence.
    Last Season's Finish: 10th Place.

    Overview of The Also-Rans:

Hansbrough Dolphins FC is a team on the rise, or is it? They can score anytime from anywhere, and will most likely be one of the top five scoring sides this season. What will determine whether David Dickens's side takes the next step, though, is how fast the defense matures with the addition of two foreign players. O Suiard is a pretty raw goalkeeper to break in, and they might have to score all the goals they can get in order to do well this season.

The Crosses of Xavier United have arguably the best midfield tandem in Cseh and Byrnes. Between the two, they can stretch the field in any direction. What matters, though, is what happens when the ball moves outside of the middle third of the pitch. The Crosses need a defensive presence in the back and an offensive presence in the front to alleviate the pressure on the middle, or opposing sides will basically play around the duo of Cseh and Byrnes.

Raxton Beavers FC has the Lemaire siblings, who are absolutely fun to watch. The days that Beavers FC fans can enjoy them, though, may be coming to an end. If the Beavers don't get much going this season, and odds are against them, the Leamire siblings may be headed elsewhere to sides with bigger dreams and bigger paychecks. To keep their darlings, the Beavers must rally around the Lemaire siblings and at least finish mid-table.

Tarahal Lake Athletic has no problem at all defending the goal, it's scoring that is their problem. They have too many defensive minded players and not enough offensive spark plugs. Manager Glaisyer added Edvin Rinne from the reserve squad with the hopes that the young man will help out the offense, but it will be a good season for Lake Athletic if they avoid being relegated.

Starting Lineup: Robbe Van Tonder, Kasimira Askes, Lilli Ebner, Radomilla Van Der Venn, Michael Stahl, Clarence Patterson^, Miroslawa Penzig, Ambroos Marquerink, Mikelis Kneib, Petra Weib
Greatest Strength: Stahl and Patterson putting up a show.
Greatest Weakness: Lack of experience as a whole leading to defensive meltdowns.
Last Season's Finish: 3rd in Secondary Division.

Greatest Strength: They score goals. Somehow.
Greatest Weakness: Lack of defensive presence.
    Last Season's Finish: 12th Place.

    Lenox Athletic
    Colors: Indigo and white

Grounds: The Lenox Wall, Lenox (Cap. 34,500)
    Formation: 3-4-3 (+0)
Starting Lineup: Eitan Herschel, Anatole Bordeur, Falk Warshawsky, Tuvya Mendelsohn, Kazuko Nishimura, Elkan Ziberschlag, Yoav Krakowski, Yun Adam, Zisel Wexler, Dafna Yi, Deror Orenstein.
Greatest Strength: They somehow managed to not be relegated last season.
    Greatest Weakness: Lack of production.
    Last Season's Finish: 13th Place

    Overview of The Danger Zone:

The Freedom's Altar Holy Templars get the honor of playing at the national stadium, The Sacred Heart. They have enough pieces to make a run for the mid-table this season, but indications are that they will probably fall short. The players are not used to playing with each other against high opposition, and it just may be too much for them to handle. They should be an interesting foe for higher sides to perhaps fall and trip against if they are underestimated.

South Hampton City are a side in need for some major upheaval. Anna Pavlov is the only player of note in that squad, and she may seek employment elsewhere if the side doesn't make moves to bolster their strength. Lupei and Ungur have shown signs of promise, but they will need to have a steeper learning curve if they wish to keep the employment of Pavlov.

Worthington Cougars can score but cannot defend. Lenox Athetic can somewhat defend but cannot score. Either side will require more than they have to keep from being relegated this season, and it is most likely that both of them will be among the last three.
    Secondary Division Preview

In the secondary division, Etoile City FC will look to grab one of the top three berths that it missed out on last season, while Hansbrough United and Etoile United will also look for jumps to the Premier Division. Worthington United are a dark horse spot, as are Kinigston City FC and Xavier City FC. Also looking to make it back up to the Premier Division after being relegated last season will be Wolvesbane Athletic, Kingston United, and Irkan City FC.

It should be a very exciting second season for Yesopalithan Football.

    "All hail Csar László XVII!"

"Oh, it's you, István. Can't a political prisoner eat his dinner in peace? What do you want?"

"Political prisoner? Why, Dear Leader, that's a rather non-poetic view of your situation..."

"Well, its trust, isn't it? I am an old man, and I have no freedom. I merely do as the Tanácsadók say, or fear the repercussions."

"They are far closer to the will of the Citizens than yourself, Dear Leader, surely you must concede that they are better placed to interpret the will and desire of the people than yourself? All up here, tucked away safely in your white palace...?"

"Well maybe if I was allowed out once in a while... This is what I mean, István, I'm locked down in here! Only wheeled out whenever the Tanácsadók need me."

"The Tanácsadók are merely looking after your safety, Dear Leader. The Citizens look up to you and respect you. They value your presence and your guiding hand. It is of the utmost importance to the Tanácsadók that they do not allow you to come to harm. The security measures are only for your own wellbeing."

"Hah. Security measures. Is that what they're calling them?"

"I'm sure if Dear Leader made an educated argument that the Tanácsadók would consider dropping some of the measures..."

"I wo-... wait, what? I don't like that pause. That sentence doesn't sound finished. Finish that sentence."

"... its just that I'm sure the Tanácsadók would never forgive themselves if a band of separatist rebels from the south west were to burst into the Royal Palace and slaughter the entire royal family as a result of lifted security protocol, that's all."

"I see. Thank you István. What do you want?"

"The latest football results are in, Dear Leader, and the Tanácsadók request your signature on this decree congratulating the victors."

    "Very well. Pass it here."

    "There. Done."

    "Thank you, Dear Leader."

"Whatever happened in that tournament thing you entered?"

"The Cuppet? Not so good, Dear Leader. The opposition sides used terribly backhanded tactics to cheat their way past our brave heroes. Nonetheless, we will return. And even stronger than before. Furthermore, two of our most promising young players have, I believe, been signed to play for teams in the Polarian Islands, a great honour for them to be playing in such a highly esteemed league."

    "What, abroad?!"

"Indeed we will. Oh, and anymore on that handball league?"

"Not yet, Dear Leader, I believe there is still major objections from the Szocialista Munkáspárt about it becoming a profession rather than an amateur pastime. They are to be applauded for their socialist spirit."

"Well, if that's everything for now, István, I should like to get on with my dinner."
