"Hello, hello, hello, hello, and welcome to our special summary edition of Gioco del Giorno! Here we will talk you through the tables, as well as the match that won Conquistadores their title. My name, as ever, is Mmmmmmolto Benny Rossano..."

"AND I'M SCRRREEEEEEEAMIN' MIC MORETTI. ON WITH THE SUMMARY, BENNY?"

"On with the summary, Mic..."

CA Conquistadores 0-0 AS Débardeurs Nationale
Scorers: None

"Are you serious? A nil-nil draw? How am I meant to make a nil-nil draw sound exciting to the viewing publi- Right, yeah. Okay, whatever. So! The match that decided the title was a nil-nil draw between the reigning champions CA Conquistadores and last years runners-up, AS Débardeurs Nationale on matchday 35. Matchday 34 had seen CA Condensadores draw with Caballeros CF whilst CA Conquistadores had beaten Qolo-Qolo 4-0 at Il Cratere, meaning that the gap between the two teams at the top had gone up to 12 points with just four games left. Mic?"

"THAT'S RIGHT BENNY. SO WHEN CONQUISTADORES PLAYED NATIONALE EARLY ON MATCHDAY 35, CONDENSADORES WERE SETTING WAITING, PRAYING THAT NATIONAL WOULD PREVAIL."

"They were to be disappointed however, as a fantastic rearguard display from the reigning champions at El Imperio means they got the point they needed to take the difference to thirteen points with only four game left for Condensadores, rendering both their next match against Qolo-Qolo and the supposed title-decided on matchday 37 between Conquistadores and Condensadores completely redundent."

"CONDENSADORES LOST BOTH, ANYWAY."

5 CA Wydad 10 5 0 5 15 16 −1 15
6 McDuck Football 10 1 3 6 21 27 −6 6

Zill had a last-gasp surge, but even five goals weren't enough to take them to the next stage. Krasnyi-Belyi Lokomotivy ends up being the best of an exciting group where the lead changed with every round. McDuck Football will need more than money if they want to do better next time.

\\GROUP B Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

6 Sporting Bison 10 0 2 8 10 18 −8 2

Capivara champion 31 Cudmundópolis books their place with two matches to spare, and watch as Nevada gets the remaining one after a heated dispute with Cilnotuzian two-time champions Múi Maqumneúi.

\\GROUP C Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

5 Geesetown 10 2 1 7 17 31 −14 7
6 Bison FC 10 0 1 9 9 27 −18 1

Madruguinha Buneco Clube and Camisa FC got in pretty easily. Bison FC has the worst campaign of all teams.

--GROUP D Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Nova Petrópolis 10 6 1 3 18 21 −3 19

5 Urdutown 10 3 3 4 19 20 −1 12
6 Gates of Metal 10 2 1 7 16 28 −12 7

Surprising everyone, not the least themselves, Nova Petrópolis ends the group stage in first place, edging Carnival City Samba, Citadelles du Soleiville and Robotnik Winter in the last game. Urdutown's disappointing campaign will be something to talk about back in Dainer. Gates of Metal called more attention for having the most suspensions of any team, than for any footballing feat.

\\GROUP E Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

5 Real Jabuti 10 3 1 6 6 9 −3 10
6 Tommy-Atkins 10 2 3 5 11 18 −7 9

Defending champions Armée de la Déesse book first place in the so-called Group of Death, intent on adding another trophy to their collections. Tivoli city Venassaurs also gets in easily. Meanwhile, Real Jabuti and Tommy-Atkins will have a lot of explaining to do to their fans.

\\GROUP F Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

5 Sporting Fluminense 10 2 2 6 14 25 −11 8
6 Connery Sport 10 2 1 7 16 23 −7 7

Postapokalypse, the Metal champions, smash everyone in their way with a near-perfect campaign, leaving favorites XV Bremen and Lynder Frosslasses to fight for the last spot. And fight they did, the Ultiman team getting ahead on goal difference.

\\GROUP G Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

A hotly-contested group, but in the end, it became a three-horse race, won by AJ Fortune and Sportivnyi Lokomotivy.

NSI CUP

Last (but not least) official event of the NSIFC on the 2013 season, the NSI Cup defines the qualifier for the Cygnus Cup. Notes on Notable Clubs

Unbidden United
Jonah Calhoun continued his rise of fame by only conceding nine goals as Unbidden United went undefeated their first season, with a record of twenty-two wins and eight draws. Calhoun was absolutely brilliant guarding the net, and Xavier Nu Manz, a brilliant young striker formerly in the U-21 squad, was responsible for fifteen goals. With Calhoun guarding the goal, and a bunch of young prospects, UU will be a tough opponent for years to come.

Avengers United
Many were surprised when Jane Vander Rox went to a Secondary Division Team. The second-most important player on the national team spending a season down there? Well, now we can see why. Under her Captaincy, Avengers United went 27-3-0, scored an astonishing total of seventy-seven goals, and dominated the competition. Henri Jean-Lafayette, a promising youngster, learned lots from Jane, and they scored twenty goals apiece. With Avengers United moving up to the Premier Division next season, and the league in its infant years, Avengers United vs. Unbidden United may be the biggest draw for Yesopalitha Football Fans.

V-League: 31st Season Tropical Trophy
(Note: The Tropical Trophy is a seasonal competition between the Vilitan Stellar Division Champions and Vilitan Cup Champions. There has been some controversy as to whether it is a "Season Ending" event or a "Season beginning" event, though it has tended to be closer to the start of the new season, then the end of the previous one. For this seasons Tropical Trophy, The V-League Stellar Division & Vilitan Cup Champions (Jungle Strike FC) and Stellar Division Runners Up (Kiiarana City) were invited.

Image Jungle Strike FC - v. - Kiiarana City Image
Tivali Ring Stadium, Alikki-Corra, Vilita

It was a clash of National #1 goalkeepers as Turori's Ronji Miiastara led Kiiarana City out of the tunnel along side of Vilita's Nycflala Kater, goalkeeper for Strike FC. The Di Bradini inspired Kiiarana City team were looking to win their first major silverware after finishing runner-up in the Stellar Division behind Strike during Season 30.

Viji-Mara Lawaai had the first chance of the match 15 minutes in but flashed a sitting chance high over the goal. The pressure kept coming for Strike but Miiastara looked every bit the International goalkeeper that led the Turori Eels to an unbeaten run of 10 out of 11 matches at the close of World Cup Qualifying through the Cup of Harmony Quarter Final run as he palmed away chance after chance of the Venom strikers keeping Kiiarana in the match as they struggled to keep pace with the formidible Strike attack at the half.

It all changed at the start of the second half, perhaps a little inspiration from the great Di Bradini himself in the form of Sargossan attacker Lucas Andrada stunning the Strike supporters by firing the games opening goal past Nycflala Kater against the run of play to give Kiiarana the 1-0 lead.

The pressure kept coming as Sirkii Moliaudo earned a corner for Kiiarana but Strike cleared that danger and looking to get back into the game, having not had a meaningful shot on target thus far in the second half. Finally, the Venom got back to their form and equalized through Retiso Buran in the 78th minute setting up a true grand stand finish worthy of a Tropical Trophy matchup at the Tivali Ring Stadium as the scores stayed level through 90 minutes, forcing extra time.

In the extra period, Strike reclaimed control of the possession having a pair of early chances to put Kiiarana on their heels but Man of the Match Ronji Miiastara was equal to the task once again. Then, much like the start of the second half, Kiiarana responded brilliantly taking just their second chance of the game and converting it as Erocka Lorei netted just before half time of extra time to put Kiiarana up 2-1.

It all looked to be going Kiiarana's way until the 113th minute when Viji-Mara Lawaai, free in the box and looking to equalize, was taken down needlessly and the referee wasted no time whatsoever in pointing to the spot. It was Yves Gadois who stepped forward, peering eye to eye with the star of the match thus far, Ronji Miiastara, with Tropical Trophy glory on both of their minds. Gadois had a swift run up and struck the ball low to Miiastara's left, but as the ball headed towards the back of the net it was met by the outstretched arm of the Turorian international who appeared to have completed an improbable display of goalkeeper majesty with a penalty save in extra time to keep Kiiarana on course for their first major piece of silverware.

The Venom pressed forward putting 10 men in the box, creating more chances that Miiastara could only laugh at, with confidence riding so high, it was clear at that point there would be no denying Kiiarana on this day as the full time whistle blew. Ronji Miiastara, the Turorian National Goalkeeper believed to have Starblaydi blood lifted Simeone Di Bradini's Kiiarana City to their first major silverware, the Tropical Trophy.

Host Bids for UICA Competitions:

Series B Champions' Cup: White Meadow Arena, Carloburgo (Cap. 69,070)

Following the awarding to the City of Metropolis of an Order of Merit by UICA, the authorities of the second most important city of Valladares, along with the Executive Board of Tannneberg Football Club, wish to put White Meadow Arena to the consideration of the UICA Selection Committee as a potential venue for the next Series B Champions' Cup final.

Located in the outskirts of the city of Carloburgo, 20 minutes away from the city centre, this stadium is the most recent built in the nation, having been inaugurated by Tannenberg FC at the start of the tenth Valladar Super League season (14 seasons ago). The "Bowl", as the stadium is nicknamed by TFC fans, is fully equipped and able to increase its capacity in exceptional cases thanks to retractable stands on the ends which can bring the spectators (specially those ones in the Knights End, home to Tannenberg's hardcore fans) closer to the pitch, greatly improving the game's atmosphere and fan experience, however, despite being one of the most modern stadia in the nation, it has yet to be in the plans of the Valladar Football Association to host a single game of the Valladar national football team, with the VFA having always preferred Olympic Stadium, the former big venue for football in the city.

Host Bids for UICA Competitions

Globe Cup: The Sacred Heart, Freedom's Altar (Cap. 144,000)
Image

The crown jewel of Yesopalithan sports, The Sacred Heart is the nation's pride and joy when it comes to stadiums. Having the ability to become a gridiron field, a baseball field, a basketball court, an ice hockey rink, and a volleyball court depending on what is needed, it is where all the Championship games are held, as well as being the home venue of Yesopalitha's national squads in gridiron football, football, basketball, and ice hockey. Located in downtown Freedom's Altar, it shows the diversity that Yesopalitha is proud of, as well as having state-of-the-art technology and seating that makes the experience of attending a game there worthwhile.

Capitol Club was formerly known as the Vonghurst Capitols

On the whole, v.league has grown by leaps and bounds over the previous season. While the league and the sport still has a ways to go before it's on the mind of every Virabi, the nation's consciousness is begining to wake up. Highlights from the league are regularly played on both VTV as well as NBC. Papers aside from this one [The Vonghurst Star] have begun to feature more in depth coverage of the sport and attendances are up. While not every team is seeing this happen (Portsham and Beaverbury come to mind), the majority are and that is a good sign. Unfortunately, since Virabia lost the bid for the upcoming Copa Rushmori, a big opportunity to put the sport front and centre stage was missed out upon. Though, it is rather likely that Virabia will end up hosting the event next time around so, eventually it shall happen. Also, with the introduction of the second division, more cities and towns can have clubs which will only mean positive things for the sport. Really, there isn't too much to say here other than this, and the rest will be covered in our team-by-team season reviews. An overview of which can be found below.

Portsham City: While Portsham City did fare better in the second half of the season, it was only relative. They pretty much stayed near last place and refused to move from the bottom. The players and what few fans they have well certainly be disappointed with their performance but, it's not as if they didn't see it comming. The only real salvation for the club is that they have evaded the now very real danger of folding and will return next season for what will likely be another dismal effort.
Final Position: 12th (10th predicted)
MVP: Buck Brady. Despite his club's poor performance for the year, Brady did the best he could on defence and shined bright amongst the rest of the club. Unfortunately for Portsham, he has said that he is looking into moving to another club and if those rumours prove true, Portsham could find themselves doing worse next year.

Laufston Town: While they dropped a position in the table since the half way point of the season, Laufston can not be disappointed at all with how they have done this season, and they aren't. Just for not finishing last, the players have been heroes of the town and a massive celebration was had at Estadío Lobos after the club returned home following their last match against Capitol Club. While most outsiders would think the celebration hilarious, one must remember that the club is open to all within the community and has fielded players of all ability levels this season. While that inexperience has shown, they banded together and gave it their all and that's a large part of why they were able to do so well.
Final Position: 11th (12th predicted)
MVP: None. To give an MVP to this club would be silly and would show blindness to what the club is about, equality. This in respect of that, I shall not give the club an MVP but, I will say that when the team did well, everyone was on fire and when they did poorly, their amateur status shone brightly.

Espilon Psychic: The Psychic have quite a bit to be disappointed about this season. At the halfway point, they sat in sixth and looked to be somewhat threatening in the race for the final spot in the Globe Cup. Unfortunately for them, the second half of the season saw the club begin to plummet down the standings. They had horrible form, managing to only draw thrice in the final eleven matches of the season. They slipped down the table and had Laufston or Portsham done better, they were in danger of being overtaken by those two clubs. While one will argue that 10th is roughly the area where the Psychic were to end up anyways, it is the failure to perform in the second half of the season that made their finish as disappointing as it was.
Final Position: 10th (11th predicted)
MVP: Jeand Bréhat. The 23 year old PBI international proved to be the strongest player for the Psychic this season. Throughout the course of the season, he showed strong signs of improvement, especially with his speed. While he is still not as fast as he could be, he has made tremendous effort to get himself up to the pace of v.league and so far it has paid off. This combined with his strong tackling made him one of the most reliable players on the Psychic.

Beaverbury AFC: Last years Cinderella story, had a showing this season that was more along the lines that we expected them to have. Finishing ninth, there was a rather large gap in terms of points between the Beavers and the Psychic and perhaps if things had gone a little better for the club they could have placed a bit higher. What's really re-assuring about the club's performance this year is that they had gone without some of their best players. Tim Ellis is currently "on loan" in the Northern Sunrise Islands, Fernandes is actually on loan in the NSI, and the club as a whole was plagued by injury problems, especially in the closing stretch. So, if a close 9th is what Beaverbury can do at reduced strength, perhaps when they return to being full strength in two years, should they avoid further problems with injuries, they will prove that 5th place was no fluke after all.
Final Position: 9th (7th predicted)
MVP: Al Bradley. Al was one of the biggest assets to his club. With out him in goal, the team would have conceded many more goals than they did and it kept the club alive in matches where they otherwise wouldn't have had a chance.

Knoxham: Knoxham were a massive disappointment this season. They a talented enough side to challenge for a GC berth but, they lived well short of these expectations. While they were able to get themselves together and go 4-5-2 over the second half of the season, it was too little too late for Knoxham. The damage was done and their season was over. It is also important to note that despite their run over the latter part of the season, their morale was quite damaged and the team looked defeated before they walked onto the field many times. If they will want to redeem themselves next season, it will be important for the team to fix the morale issue currently plaguing them, or else they could see another season in the gutters.
Final Position: 8th (4th predicted)
MVP: Sacha Alexander. The twenty-one year old middie for was everywhere for Knoxham. He contributed to the defensive effort as well as the attacking one, scoring 2 goals and racking up a total of 7 assists. His play has attracted some minor interest from foreign clubs for the player and the interest of the newly reformed Tropaia team, where it is expected that the Hampshire native will start in the upcoming Cuppett.

Atalanta BC With only five matches to go, Atalanta were in fourth and had a somewhat decent chance to make the Globe Cup for a second consecutive season. Unfortunately, their play faltered in the closing stretch. Unable to produce a win, they began to slide. This slide was largely contributed to a decline in the level of play of multiple players but especially Rameries and Meléndez who had to be subbed out rather early due to fatigue. Unfortunately, the club was unable to do all too well without them and the results of playing without two of their top players showed clearly, exactly at the time when they needed it to reveal itself least.
Final Position: 7th (6th predicted)
MVP: Apolinario Meléndez. While Meléndez grew rather tired near the end of the season, when he was on the field he made a large impact for the club and was one of the primary driving forces behind the club's strong performances.

Thundercougarfalconbirds: Another one of the league's many disappointments, TCFB was a perfect example of why it is important to have a strong team and not just a few strong players. Throughout the season, it was easy to tell that some of the club's players were playing at a level far above the others and this made play, especially the attacks difficult. The other problem that TCFB faced throughout the season was the outspoken Demi Santos who made his discontent with the lack of professionalism at the club and with-in the league well known. He openly criticised the club's home ground, Willard Park, for not having any permanent seating. He also sparked controversy rather recently when he spoke to the press after the club's loss on the final match day against the Negroe Pride. "I really have to take my hat of to v.league.", said Santos, "It is by far the most ludicrous top level league that I have seen in this world. Everyday, I hear something about how they are aiming to be 'the greatest league ever'. Bullshit! You can aim where-ever you want but, when you let the door open for clubs of amateurs, 100-man sides and teams who can't even get a damned stadium, you have to question how seriously they're pursuing it." Despite all of the things that worked against the 'birds favour, their sixth place finish was a rather close one. If they had won their final match against The Pride, they would have ended up overtaking Charleston and Capitol Club and finished in fourth, thus earning a trip to the GC. Which, when you think about it, makes it all the more bitter.
Final Position: 6th (5th Predicted)
MVP: Tyler Plymouth. While many would think Santos would get be the MVP for the club, his somewhat controversial behaviour off the pitch did not help him in any way. Thus I feel it is best given to Tyler Plymouth who emerged this season from being a complete unknown to being one of the better set-up men in the league. His crosses were often deadly, racking up 8 assists off of them. A further two assists and two goals only padded his stats from what was a great season.

Charleston Artillery: The Artillery can not be disappointed with how this season went. Going into the year they were picked to be a lower-mid table club and right up until the end they stayed in the race for a GC berth. The credit for this has to really go to the fans, who from my experiences at The Gunnery, were amazing. Thor Vikøren, the club's player manager sang many praises of the fans throughout the year saying things to the effect of "without the battery (the Artillery's supporters group), we would have given up early on but, we didn't want to let anyone down so we kept going." While Vikøren is exaggerating a bit (he always does), there is little doubt that the Artillery had one of the best fan bases in the league next season and come next season, hopefully the team will be able to do just a wee bit better for their 12th man.
Final Position: 5th (8th predicted)
MVP: Thor Vikøren. Simply put, Thor is the club's best player but, perhaps his greatest benefit to the club is in his role as manager. He pushes players that aren't thought to have much talent to accomplish great things and when he's not on the pitch he's a one man cheering squad for the club.
Capitol Club: Capitol Club had one of the strongest, deepest squads in the league. Unfortunately, there wasn't too much in terms of harmony between the players and they were often at odds with each other because each wanted to shine the brightest on the league's most star studded squad. While that problem did become less of an issue as the season progressed, it gave way to complacency. Many players on the club thought of themselves as being a leg up on the rest of the league and as such they didn't push themselves if they didn't feel they had to. The results of this were plainly obvious as Capitol Club dropped behind and finished fourth. Still good enough for a second straight Globe Cup berth but, compared to what could have been, very disappointing indeed.
Final Position: 4th (1st predicted)
MVP: Nicolás Sema. The Pacitalian had an excellent season in Vonghurst. In 20 appearances for the club, he scored 4 goals and ranked up 5 assists. He also was one of the clubs go to play makers and when he got the ball, things began to happen for Capitol Club. The one weakness he had was that the team over-relied on him and because of that, he could easily be countered by the other team, forcing the Caps to use less skilled play makers.

Tompkins United: Two years of v.league, and so far two Cinderella stories. No one in their right mind would have picked TU to even fight for a UICA place much-less finish on the podium. The odds were simply stacked against their favour. Because of the non stop travel, players came into matches more fatigued than their counterparts. They lacked team practise time and in the beginning of the season, much of a fan base, though as the season progressed they did become the pride of the state. That didn't change the blunt reality that they were still one of the teams least likely to succeed and they did exactly that. It wasn't some fluke too. The United looked strong, real strong. They had second going into the last match day and if it weren't for a penalty and a rather lucky goal by the Artillery, the United could have ended up finishing second. The question on everyone's mind is will they do this well next year or will they return to being just a bit below average?
Final Position: 3nd (9th predicted)
MVP: Tom Liddle. While it's rather difficult to pick an MVP for Tompkins, I'd have to say it is the goal keeper. Liddle proved that he is one of the v.leagues finest keepers this season and is favoured to start Virabia in the upcoming Copa Rushmori.

FC Negroe Pride: They had it. They had it in their clutches and they lost it. With five matches to go, they had a four point buffer and given the strength of the side, it was almost certain they'd be able to maintain it and they didn't. In their final five matches they couldn't manage a single win and for the second season in a row, The Pride falter late in the season and finish second place to the Ithaca Big Red.
Final Position: 2nd (2nd predicted)
MVP: Marcus Waters. While it was really hard to pick between Waters and Brown, it is on the count of Waters' experience that he edges out Brown. While Brown has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world, he is still prone to rather basic mistakes that Waters does not fall prey to as much.

Ithaca Big Red: The Big Red have done simply spectacularly this season. While it wasn't until late that they secured their title, they did it once again and come the Awards Picnic, the Big Red will take the cake once again. While many doubted before this season if they would be able to repeat the title, given the increase in the level of competition in the league, they have proved those doubts wrong by a mile. They had the most productive offense and the tied Tompkins for the best defense in the league and at no point in the season did they look weak. The question is, with their players growing older with the seasons, how much longer can such strong performances go on. This question may become rather pointless though as given how big football is in Ithaca, the club is sure to have youth prospects join it's ranks in the coming seasons. While no one would have predicted it before the start of the league two years ago, the Big Red are now on their way to becoming the first dynasty in Virabi football in more than a hundred years.
Final Position: 1st (3rd predicted)
MVP: Choam Nomsky. When one mentions the Big Red, it's impossible to not mention Choam in the same breath. He is the embodiment of Virabi sport. Both an academic and an athlete, Choam has proven to be excellent in both fields and has dedicated his time to be the best player in the league despite his age and competition from players like Santos, Brown and others. This alone makes him a valuable asset for any team and we haven't even gotten to the stats. While he did not manage to score a single goal, he tallied an impressive 15 assists and many more key passes for the club. The only thing that's real downside to Choam is that he won't be in the league when it gets bigger, for it'd be amazing to see what someone with his level of determination could accomplish in a top league.

The Chase for the Crown - Pyria has a comfortable ten-point lead at the halfway mark, only losing one game in the second quarter of the season. Loria Votmk is back to her elite form, and the defense has yielded the fewest goals out of all the teams, meaning that GK Ivan Hammer is starting to excel under the protection of elite defenders Sharon Tundai and Patrick Stewart. Jaques Didier and the Crusaders sit in second place, but Didier may leave to somewhere else. Chasing them are Parahai and Rhymney Unedig, with CPD Dinas Parheft sinking to ninth place due to a barrage of draws.

UICA STADIUM BIDS

GLOBE CUP - Piteka Colosseum, Cidade Pupidu, Dainer - CAPACITY: 100.000
Image
Shaped like a giant square block, sitting at the top of a hill and surrounded by trees, the Piteka stands out like a massive black monolith in the landscape. The entire stadium is covered inside and out with tiles of shiny black stone, so closely packed together that it looks like the stadium was carved out, instead of built.
This is not a festive arena - it's meant to intimidate. Its construction says but one thing: "You're entering the temple of Xistrumbigonça. Abandon all hope."

SBCC - Jan Sibelius Stadium, Ventia, Dainer - CAPACITY: 50.000
A classic looking stadium, verticalized and with the crowd very close to the pitch. It was rebuilt a number of times to conform to new standards, but always keeping the same shape. For that reason it's still called "the oldest stadium in Dainer".

The Iturributan Premier Division: Season 648 Preview

The inaugural season of the Free Republic of Iturributa's very own domestic season was a huge success, with strong attendances, competitive play and a climactic ending to both the league and the cup; Iturributa United and Sporting Iturributa, inseparable across four derbies, decided the title with one last play-off that ended with the crowning of the Scarlet Stripes of United as champions, while Iturributa Racing Club pulled off upsets over Sporting and then United to become the first winners of the President's Cup. The format remains the same for the second season, with the same ten teams in the Premier Division save for Andozketa Wanderers, who earned promotion from the second tier and will replace the relegated Langaraitz Rovers. The candidates are, as always, Iturributa United and Sporting Iturributa, and heading into the first matchday they line up like this:

United have kept the core of last season's title-winning team, but have suffered the retirement of Citiz left-back Gerard Royce and a backhanded move on behalf of Royal Rumiatzi: the Knights paid the exorbitant sum of Đ30 million for star striker Ellis Elmsvikur's buyout clause, and having agreed a salary that rivals that of Timo Skye during his spell in Astograth, the Terns forward has turned his back on the United faithful to join their hated rivals on the other side of the border. Labelled a heartless, money-grubbing mercenary by the kinder sections of the crowd, Elmsvikur leaves United with a gap up front that they hope to cover with the up-and-coming Mayu Yurrita, of similar style to the Polarian. Meanwhile, Gordonopian Matty Paige is expected to replace Royce on the left flank. The bench sees some new faces brought in from a variety of smaller teams, and venerable captain Petter Bielsen, 38, has announced he will be retiring from the sport at the end of the season.

Sporting are looking to heal their pride, having finished the last season without a trophy when they could've and – as far as the fans are concerned – should've ended up with the double. Gilen Salbarrei, a proud product of their academy, and Mikel Aluztiza have been brought in to form a newer, younger defensive line alongside fellow local talents Sotil Burruchaga and Ixona Zarrasbeitia. Further up, Eneko Dicharry has retired and his place has at last been inherited by Iturributan-born Audioslavian international Mantzio Janssens. Erathi striker Victor Brexio, once of their top players, has been done away with to Astograth's South Factory, while Iratze Errekaborde has been transferred in from Gesterlake FC. Talented right winger Marin Mendazona has likewise landed in Iturributa after being trained at Erathore's Royal Vosaroni Antenelli and FC Mildrid.

The Others
ImageImage
Iturributa Racing Club
Hometown: Iturributa
Colours: Orange shirt with black stripe, orange shorts and socks
Honours: 1 President's Cup (647)
Last Season Finish: 3rd
Notes: If there's someone who might break up the two-horse race it's Iturributa Racing, but it's a very long shot. They have a solid squad of proven players, but an average age that's well over thirty and little in the way of big-name stars means they can hardly challenge for something other than third place and – perhaps – the President's Cup, having won their first such trophy this past season.

ImageImage
Freedom FC
Hometown: Iturributa
Colours: Red and yellow striped shirt, black shorts and socks
Last Season Finish: 4th
Notes: Freedom FC are kept alive by their star striker Emenon Boneta, an Iturributan international who has already declared he will play for no Astograthian or Iturributan side other than his boyhood club. His performances for the national team are sure to draw attention, but until then Freedom can continue to dream and punch above their weight.

ImageImage
Independent Garitzeta
Hometown: Garitzeta
Colours: White with blue stripe, white shorts, blue socks
Last Season Finish: 5th
Notes: Having lost the right to bear the title of 'Royal' and rebranding itself 'Independent', Garitzeta were one of the founding members of the Astograthian Football League, and long tumbled between the second and third tiers. In Iturributa their long-term hopes are Globe Cup qualification, and earning a fifth place over Garitzeta Racing Club is a step in the right direction.

ImageImage
Garitzeta Racing Club
Hometown: Garitzeta
Colours: Black and orange striped shirt, black shorts and socks
Last Season Finish: 6th
Notes: With a solid squad and plenty of tradition, it was a dissapointment for Garitzeta Racing to finish sixth when they should be shooting for a Globe Cup place, especially when rival Indepedent Garitzeta and Iturributa Racing did much better. Younger players should be able to add fluidity to an attack that often faltered in the final third.

ImageImage
Guenara Defender
Hometown: Guenara
Colours: Yellow kit, black shorts, yellow socks
Last Season Finish: 7th
Notes: Defender are economically stable and have good infrastructure, which puts them in an excellent position to take advantage of Iturributa's new status, and fulfilled expectations with a solid seventh place.

ImageImage
Focus FC
Hometown: Iturributa
Colours: Green shirt with white and black stripe, green shorts and socks
Last Season Finish: 8th
Notes: A member of Iturributa's top semi-professional league and frequent invitee to the Astograthian Royal Cup, Focus FC have much in the way of local tradition if not talent and infrastructure. Though they've become fully professional and revamped their squad, they're still hoping to gain a steady pace in the Premier Division before setting their aims higher.

ImageImage
Guenara City
Hometown: Guenara
Colours: All dark blue kit
Last Season Finish: 9th
Notes: Defender's bitter rivals, City are much the same but in a bit of a tight spot regarding finances. Depending on how well the league fares economically these problems could be solved or lead to a cycle of costly loans; the partition of TV money is proving especially divisive considering the demands of the two big Iturributan teams. A ninth-place finish has put significant pressure on the team this coming season, as relegation could prove catastrophic.

ImageImage
Andozketa Wanderers
Hometown: Andozketa
Colours: Red and black striped shirt, red shorts and socks
Last Season Finish: 1st in the Premier Division B
Notes: The Wanderers blitzed their way to the top tier with only four losses in their past campaign, and an inspired run in the SBCC that was cut off in the final preliminary round. Saving themselves from relegation is entirely possible even without Guenara City's financial trouble, so they'll be pushing for that above anything.

Late as always, the WZNL playoffs:

Division One Playoff:
Semi-Final
Moorcroft Wanderers 0-0 Etruria
Etruria 1-2 Moorcroft Wanderers
Aggregate: Moorcroft Wanderers 2-1 Etruria

Ashton Rovers 4-2 Civil Service
Civil Service 4-4 Ashton Rovers
Aggregate: Ashton Rovers 8-6 Civil Service

Final
Moorcroft Wanderers 0-1 Ashton Rovers

Division Three Playoff:

Oakley 2-1 Houghton Hawks

The West Zirconian National League is to be expanded to 20 teams per league over the next two seasons. Four new teams will be admitted into the Regional Division for the next season, with four to follow the following season, and appropriate changes made to promotion for the subsequent season's competition.

Greenwood Athletic and Catterall Juniors will be admitted to Division Three South, while St. Matthew's Moss and newly-merged side Broxton and Marrs Hill will be admitted to Division Three North. Broxton Town were due to be given the place, but financial difficulties forced them to merge with neighbouring Marrs Hill, who were then given the invitation that had been extended to the old Broxton club.

Season 20,043

Without much in the way of offseason movement, apart from the disappointing news that the EPL fell from the comfortable perch in the top three of the the UICA rankings to now in a position where they only get two Champions Cup slots. That being the case, RCU's dominant season, only troubled continuously by the Mar Sara clubs, came as a bit surprise. Doing both the Premiership and Premiership double, United look to once again bring back the days where they were the undisputed best team in Valanora and perhaps the entire world. A strong CC showing would go a long ways to reestablishing that supremacy, as Hondo as shown as of late domestic winnings do not always transfer over to the international competiton as other nations leagues have risen up in their talent level to rival and surpass the EPL.

The biggest news came from Vyinta, not only because Ibini for the first time ever did not win the V-league, but the champions did not even win the Globe Cup playoff and the fifth placed side made a miraculous run in the Silver Cup to steal away Hondo's chance at silverware this domestic season.

UICA STADIUM BID - SBCC
InComm Arena @ Matthew City, Amy Island
Capacity: 125 000 places

Image

Home of the Matthew City Senators and Matthew City Rangers at Football and Hockey, the InComm Arena is a multiuse stadium built originally in 2000. Allthough not as old as the many stadiums from more experient countries, the arena uses green power to the max, part of the comportament of the country about the enviroment and is known for having a full-screened exterior, that can display about anything. A nice example of this was when Matthew City Senators faced Matthew City Rangers in a friendly, generating this scene. Even though this season, the Rangers will play at the SBCC, NSI want to be able to host such an event, specially after they were able to host the final of the thirteenth edition of the Hockey Champions League.

FSSOFA Gold League Pre-Season Analysis

AFC Mayville
Manager: Brezovan Wallace
Key Players: Andy Quinn, Chad Parsons, Hamilton Robery, Colin Nelson
Stadium: Langham Stadium (Mayville, 31,548)
Sponsor: ! Trains and Trams (Virabia)

A miraculous second half of the season recovery from near the foot of the table for AFC Mayville earned them a solid 11th place finish, keeping Chad Parsons in the side for at least one more season. The birds will begin to circle when his contract runs out next summer though, as the case of Pola Grabnyak showed that safety and relative success does not make your players unturnable. They made no transfers in the summer, leaving them in a fairly stable condition.

Arrowsmith
Manager: Michael Hamlet
Key Players: Liam Carling
Stadium: Fishery Hill Stadium (Arrowsmith, 35,200)
Sponsor: Fadron Pizza (Taeshan)

Although they hired Michael Hamlet as manager in the summer and have brought in young striker Liam Carling, they face very little chance of staying up much like Dudsbury.

Bastion
Manager: Louis Williamson (New Hackney)
Key Players: Jerry Watchman, Mike Humphrey, Buschak Dassuna, Joe Arne Pizza, Sebastien Wilfstrand, Persa Ryans, Jim Cotterill, Geoff Day, Recobo, Skorji Oslograd
Stadium: Bastion Arena (Bastion, 98,000)
Sponsor: Aloha Airlines (Virabia)

Bastion finished poorly again last season, 5th in the league - a whole 21 points behind champions Revolutionaries. Despite this they have not strengthened in the summer, rather they have decided to offload the troubled Carlos Aduna to his hometown club Brigham for £6.1m. They probably underachieved last season though and will put up more of a challenge this season - if not, they certainly have the financial backing to splash out next summer. The post-Needle era has been difficult.

Brigham
Manager: Simon Hobart
Key Players: Martin Smith, Lucas Hammond, Carlos Aduna, Volk Savanev
Stadium: Old Ham Lane (Brigham, 47,290)
Sponsor: Kappa Kits n' Kicks (Virabia)

Brigham seem like the best of all the sides to come up this year. They finished 2nd coming up but have a more balanced squad than Dudsbury and Arrowsmith, and have clearly made better signings. They've brought in Simon Hobart from Ulsa Rovers as manager after their previous manager retired with promotion under his belt, and despite his teams fate last season Hobart is a good manager and will probably keep Brigham up. Signing Carlos Aduna was a massive coup for the club, while Mark Smith and Volk Savanev are both cheap but quality signings.

Culpapy United
Manager: Neil Knowles
Key Players: Mickey Smith, Nile Samson, Andy Wilk, Rob Spider
Stadium: Weedon Bridge (Culpapy, 30,000)
Sponsor: Hails Beer

Little change at Culpapy with only a few minor transfers going through, although their stadium has finally been expanded to be able to take just over 12,000 more fans on a match day. Lee Sharp commented last season how delighted he was at their establishment in the top flight; long may it continue, he'll be thinking!

Dartmoor
Manager: Paul Andrew (Ancharmunn)
Key Players: Revy Collison, Fernando Valdez, Eye Barsa, Ender Wiggin
Stadium: Plains Arena (Dartmoor, 35,930)
Sponsor: SWest Airlines

Despite the best efforts of Paul Andrew, Dartmoor had an alarming slump last season and finished 15th. Andrew has had little funds to strengthen in the summer, and he will undoubtably be under a lot of pressure this season.

Directus
Manager: David Spearman
Key Players: Daniel Belgrave, Dennis Arnold, Julesk Paranaya, Michael Robertson, Bill Riley, James McCroft, Tom Riley, Mayano Salono, Pola Grabnyak, Paul Fessner
Stadium: Castle Road (Directus, 59,684)
Sponsor: AalborgPettersen Insurance (Polar Islandstates)

Directus finished one place higher last season, but failed to launch a title challenge. However they have done a lot of good business in the summer by selling off Peter Vertinskay for a hefty £16m - and beat the rest of the Big Five to the lucrative signing of Pola Grabnyak for £24m. With Grabnyak up front alongside Paul Fessner, it has to be likely that they will at least challenge for the title this season.

Dudsbury
Manager: Donald Beeb
Key Players: Fashek Currov
Stadium: Lowland Gardens (Dudsbury, 31,300)
Sponsor: Difergoles (Aguazul)

Dudsbury are an even weaker promotee than they were a few years ago, and how they won the Silver League title is anyone's guess. Destined for the drop.

Falourr
Finishing position last season: 1st in Silver League
Manager: Calvin Mack (Sameba)
Key Players: Nile Valun, Aidan Jones, Harvey Dexter, Scott Daley
Stadium: Hawking Corner (Falourr, 28,599)
Sponsor: Falourr Banger Whiskey

Falourr were absolutely superb last season, storming to 7th in the league as a newly promoted side and securing the services of Harvey Dexter for an inexpensive £1.7m. Unlikely to repeat last season's finish again, especially after they just missed out on a shock transfer capture of Chad Parsons on the last day of the transfer window, but have a good chance of staying up.

Farrenton Athletic
Manager: Rob Jovinsky
Key Players: Lewis Calvalcade, Nicholas Kerr, Rhodri Evans, Sammy Knowles, Bryn Thomas
Stadium: Stadion Pignorant (Farrenton, 55,003)
Sponsor: Rabarra Weapons System

Farrenton once again avoided getting the wallet out in the summer, but should avoid any threat of relegation next season.

Holdenberg
Manager: Adam Jones
Key Players: Odvlek Cario, Stan Champion, Jonny dos Santos
Stadium: Benedict Lane (Holdenberg, 35,822)
Sponsor: Macrohard (Camwood)

Holdenberg once again managed to stay clear of the relegation battle despite their sponsor Titanica Ferries going bankrupt halfway through the season. Looking fairly safe now, but cannot get cocky after failing to strengthen.

Holdenberg City
Manager: Alain Letetre (Cotadelpoms)
Key Players: Sebastien Hamilton, Joan Cruft, Michael Cook
Stadium: Hafran Lane (Holdenberg, 41,011)
Sponsor: Harther Steel

Holdenberg City managed their target of a top half finish, but could not resist taking £21m from Directus for the services of Pola Grabnyak. Much to the anger of the fans this has been seemingly unused, with the only major signing with the profits being the £5m purchase of Camwood striker Michael Cook - a 30 year old with only one good season in his inferior domestic league. A controversial summer for City, and they will struggle this season.

Honeybadgers
Manager: Wesley Adams
Key Players: Rick Connors, Eduardo Prost, Ashley O'Brien, Steven Marshall, Neil Cole, Guy Stamp
Stadium: The Hive (Directus, 34,303)
Sponsor: Naveux-Tradeu Enterprises (Karditan)

This side slipped two places to 8th last season but have not suffered any major player losses in the summer, in fact they are stronger now after purchasing Marketville's Ashley O'Brien for £3m. Still unlikely to break the Big Five though.

Hornchurch
Manager: Seb Watley
Key Players: Carl Coffa, Luke Bluewater
Stadium: Walter Avenue (Hornchurch, 32,203)
Sponsors: HawtCorp

And so the Hornchurch slide continues - down to 14th now. Worst of all they have lost their talisman right back and wonderkid Nick Feeney for £17m to the two year champions, Revolutionaries. They are at serious risk of relegation now after failing to spend any of that windfall, using it to clear debts instead.

Lajuno
Manager: Mikelatz Mendialde (Astograth)
Key Players: Loren Arambel, Erlantz Izagirre, Mario Mikkenen, Alan Fotheringham, Conway Carlton, Craig Harper, Intza Basurto, James Clarke
Stadium: Lansbury Road (Lajuno, 38,390)
Sponsor: InterCity Rail (Civil Citizenry/FSSO)

Mendialade's Revolution from Astograth stalled a bit last season as Lajuno failed to move beyond 12th, when they are the club most capable of breaking the big five. Perhaps the signing of young Liventian striker James Clarke will change their fortunes.

New Harkdown
Manager: Hamilton Le’Arse
Key Players: Simon Rose, Richard Lockhart, Kimi Houberg, Lewis Moore
Stadium: OpTiiK IT Sports Arena (Harkdown, 40,430)
Sponsor: OpTiiK

How did New Harkdown finish 6th, we ask? Lord knows. They soldier on against the odds though, replacing the now retired Ross Browning in the summer with young Kimi Houberg. However, both teams Houberg has played for in his two seasons in FSSO have gone down - could he be a curse in disguise?

Revolutionaries
Manager: Michael Brand
Key Players: Ross Ramsden, Nick Feeney, Eamon Power, Colin Collymore, Kieran Kane, Clive Mallardino, Mikhael Johannes, Ascot Sanders, Clevon Drago, Simon Xavier, Brigham Bond
Stadium: Sasky Rising Memorial Stadium (Brigham, 68,949)
Sponsors: Mansley Systems

Revolutionaries are quickly becoming dominant in the Gold League, with two titles on the trot and a growing hegemony over the rest of the Big Five unmatched since Bastion's control in the 90's and the Directus masterclass a decade ago. They solved their right back problem by spending big on Nick Feeney in the summer, and have surprised many with yet another inspired signing from Civil Citizenry - Brigham Bond. Bond is seen as a long term replacement for Clevon Drago and will likely form a deadly partnership with Simon Xavier. Expect them to win the title again, although Directus may be in with a shot.

Sparta FC
Manager: Clark Robinson
Key Players: Antonio Marino, George Bowler, Djourou Calaga, Mikhael van Germ, Jay Morrison, Dalton Bradshaw Laughton, Josh Stevenson, Seryou Kobe, Sam Thomas, Marseto Silvia
Stadium: Spartangrad Olympic Stadium (Spartangrad, 75,520)
Sponsors: Polair (Polar Islandstates)

Sparta surprised themselves a bit by climbing higher than 5th but lost Sandquist in the summer, although they have at least invested in solid central midfielder Jay Morrison to fill the gap. With Bradshaw-Laughton most likely retiring at seasons end and the loss of Sandquist, Sparta won't make a title challenge this season.

Ulsa
Manager: Albert Osman
Key Players: Craig Castleton, Grant Davis, Andy Davis, Cornelius Barnes, Paco Leon Nolasco, Steven Thompson, Luther van Ferris, Clive Dawson, Jonathan Steele, Nicky Martin
Stadium: Troutbridge Stadium (Ulsa, 62,199)
Sponsors: ChocoMilk (Civil Citizenry)

Did bugger all in the summer but their squad is still strong and finally unified, giving them a solid platform for next season. Uncertainty over sponsors and partial owners ChocoMilk may be a destabalising influence though.

Workers Union
Manager: Frank Cole
Key Players: Lyle Heath, Nick Hamill, Rich Foley
Stadium: Workers Athletic Achievement Stadia for Make Benefit of People (Callodown, 30,000)
Sponsor: West Euran Steel and Coal Union Conglomerate [WESCUC]

Boring old Workers Union. No signings, no invention. Mid-table once again most likely.

The Iturributan Premier Division: Season 648 Review
Preview

The second season of independent Iturributan football has concluded, with some very interesting results. Early signs of a spell of dominance, perhaps?

Premier Division
The league got off to an unexpected start as Freedom FC hit the ground running, and inspired Emenon Boneta leading them to wins all over the place, including Old City Stadium against United. Coupled with some trip-ups for the Big 2, especially in Guenara, Freedom found themselves coasting up until matchday 9, when they too dropped points in Guenara and Sporting, having won the Iturributa Derby 3-2 some weeks before, finally seized the lead. Three weeks later they again beat a troubled United, who found their philosophy of all-out attack no longer sustainable; a couple of 5-4 wins against lesser opposition, though thrilling, were a cause of concern. Ellis Elmsvikur's loner capability was sorely missed, as Yurrita couldn't match it and the team had to push forward even more – therefore leaving gaps at the back – to acheive the same effect.

Sporting thumped Freedom 5-1 with stellar performances from Martinuccio, Mendazona and Janssens, putting themselves 10 points ahead at the half-way point, United at a distant 13. Iturributa Racing and Independent Garitzeta tussled for the fourth-place Globe Cup spot further down, the former gaining a slight advantage, and at the very bottom it was a three-way draw between Andozketa Wanderers, Focus FC and Guenara City, with their rivals Defender not too far removed.

Iturributa United kept piling on the pressure, though their third Derby defeat of the season, on MD 21, left them with a 16 point deficit that seemed nigh impossible to recover. Ups and downs followed, their inconsistency meaning they could win by a copious amount before losing or earning a scrappy draw next week. Their 3-0 Derby victory, with two for top scorer Elwyn Richard and one for national team player Sandaili Iturraspe, was a relief, but ultimately too little too late. Eleven points behind with six games to play, they could only watch as Zernin Aira lifted the trophy for Sporting with three matchdays to go, the Scarlet Stripes' earlier loss to Independent Garitzeta having put the title beyond reach. Like before, it was the strong midfield of Rochemback and Oramuno that dictated the pace and ultimately made the difference, together with the revamped defense that upheld Sporting's karelan tradition. The not-so-karela attacking duo of Martinuccio and Malik proved as deadly as always, the addition of Iratze Errekaborde and the ever-present Liroz providing the squad with essential depth. United, though scoring a hefty 90 goals, showed flaws in defense and a tactical imbalance brought on by the departure of Elmsvikur that in the long run meant they either had to have Richard carry the team or leave dangerous space in defense in an effort to get as many men forward as possible. A disappointing campaign for Petter Bielsen, who becomes the third United captain in a row to fail to win a trophy in his final season, no matter how much success they've had before.

Elsewhere, Freedom FC eventually slumped to fourth place despite having the tournament's top scorer in Emenon Boneta; Iturributa Racing snatching third and Garitzeta Racing beating Independent to fifth if only to save their pride. At the bottom, Andozketa Wanderers and Guenara City went into the final match separated by a single point, against top sides Iturributa Racing and Sporting Iturributa. Neither pulled off an upset, which meant that City will spend next season in the second tier... if they can survive an institutional crisis that is.

Premier Division B
Sorokin's Old Boys responded to their favouritism with a confident stroll to the top tier, with minor setbacks courtesy of Markiniz Union, who are nonetheless pleased to have made the SBCC. Langaraitz Rovers came close to a return, but are now on good footing to mount a comeback next season. Uzio Blackstar pipped Axpuru Castle to UICA qualification in the most nerve-wracking double fixture of the final matchday; both can be considered serious candidates for promotion next time around.

Axpuru Castle did well to turn their tie against Bipagoun Town around, while Markiniz Union edged Langaraitz Rovers and Uzio Blackstar ad to resort to penalties to dispatch Providence Mytanars.

Nobody expected Guenara City to win either, but they also took a win from Garitzeta and booked their place in the quarterfinals, though the same couldn't be said of Eagles FC as Independent knocked them out. Elsewhere, there were confident performances from United and Iturributa Racing; Sporting suffered more than they should've in their tie against Guenara Defender, going through despite losing the second leg.

Independent Garitzeta 2-1 Iturributa United
Iturributa United 3-2 Independent Garitzeta (4-3 AET, 5-5 agg, 5-4 Pks)

Iturributa Racing Club crushed the upstarts from Erretana 10-0 on aggregate, veterans Berasko Arechaga and Litzar Biteri scoring the pick of the goals. Guenara City also triumphed over second tier opposition, though in their case it was a duel between the eventual relegated and promoted sides. Sporting Iturributa breezed past Freedom FC despite resting several key players, including striker Iker Malik, but the connection between big forwards Martinuccio and Errekaborde proved to be top-notch. Iturributa United, having lost the first leg, were comfortably leading the second when a late goal forced them to extra-time. Elwyn Richard, with his third of the night, seemed to sentence it, but as Garitzeta clawed one back it went down to penalties, where Hérion Galonloth saved and Otz Lasuen kept a cool head to take the Scarlet Stripes to the semifinals where the luck of the draw had paired them with their biggest rivals...

Semifinals

Guenara City 0-6 Iturributa Racing Club (0-9 agg)

Sporting Iturributa 3-0 Iturributa United
Iturributa United 2-1 Sporting Iturributa (2-4 agg)

Iturributa Racing Club scored for fun against the poor Guenara City, but the public's eyes weren't set on them. They were centered on Old City Stadium instead, where a two-leg Iturributa Derby would produce the other finalist and certainly the top candidate. Razov, Burruchaga and Martinuccio seemed to put things beyond doubt in the first match, but in the second leg Lasuen and Gianluigi scored on Aira and nothing was certain anymore. Until the penalty on Iker Malik, at least, which resulted in a red card for Tartalo Maruri, a vital goal for Sporting scored by Malik himself, and a wrench thrown in Aiza Sein's plans as his side slumped and failed to win the tie.

Iturributa Racing Club faced Iturributa United last season and still came away with the President's Cup despite being huge underdogs, but this time the story was different. Sporting came in having won the Premier Division, but they displayed no signs of complacency in either of the final's two legs. With fire in his eyes, an Alejandro Martinuccio brace silenced the packed Hippodrome, and three days later Marin Mendazona wrapped up the win, across town in the Old City district. Sporting win their first ever double, in style, and it seems they may finally earn the recognition they deserve.
