The Apathian Summit/Discussions (Closed to Four Nations)

OOC Thread

Morning, Day 1 of the six nation visit

The Estrada palace was quiet as usual, security was at his all-time high, and the sun has some time to begin rising. The Palace didn't contain a usual amount of decorations, but at this time, it was crucial to impress the guests on their first visit of the nation. The area was blocked off just so that the president could have an hour of silence before he leaves for the airport.

He sat there, pondering over the remains of his furniture left from the previous administrations. The oval office wasn't much of a tidy area, considering Jim's busy schedule, and it wasn't much of a fashion statement either, with its colonial remnants still intact. He pondered over the replies from the invitations for today's summit, especially the one from Sam Philips, his long time ally. Jim blinked. How in the world was he going to work out an embassy trade, while creating a feasible free trade agreement that would fit both of them? Also, how was he going to cope with four other nations at that time, who have little, or no relations at all?

The other three nations were basically acquaintances. Jeuna, a Chinese state, was basically a superpower, and Altane, a ever-expanding empire, had in the past almost went to war over Lizardiar, where Jim was about to deploy troops to repel their colonization. His stomach lurched at the idea of Sierra Apathia at a large-scale war, considering three smaller wars which were fought on its own soil.

"Five minutes sir." said John Mae, who was halfway across the door. It was already morning. The sun's rays beamed across the room, with the room's entire set of shades automatically pulled up via an electronic motor. Jim tried to embrace it at that moment, but eventually attempted to cover his face with his own hands. He took a leather briefcase at the foot of his desk and began to walk slowly toward the door.

"Would it be a great idea to have something a bit light in the morning?" asked Jim. He was steadily approaching the end of the M-13, and slowly, the limousine began to slow down into the private airport. Niko Colleso, advisor to the president, gave a heart-warming smile and continued to type into his laptop. "What would you like actually?" he asked, typing hardly onto the keyboard. Before Jim could even reply, the limousine grounded to a halt, and by that time, secret service swarmed like ants all over the compound. Heavy security, wasn't what Jim wanted this early in the morning.

As he moved toward a small, white, modern building, Jack Iringstone, the vice president, as well as Hugh Mirez, joined the group inside. After being locked into a secluded lounge area, the three prominent figures sat on sofas, eventually having small talk before having to silently listen to what Hugh has to say. "Five nations? Jim, did you really have fun on your last state visit? How are we going to handle this?" he asked, anxiously holding his tie. The vice president eventually broke his minute-long silence and proceeded to say - "Its up to him, he always had been trying to promote the country-". A knock on the door indicated it was time to proceed to the tarmac.

Three large planes sat one by one in a row, with some of their passengers eventually coming out. Security, Jim presumed. The Garmidian plane, followed by the Almajoyan and the Altanian plane, began to move in line towards the red carpet, just like a MTV Music Awards arrival ceremony. Jim took a deep breath, and proceeded to walk towards the middle of the red carpet. A figure stepped slowly down the electronic staircase, which is a luxury in his terms, actually. Most of his state visits had to walk down a narrow fleet of steps before arriving on a soft, red strip of carpet to greet a cold, pale hand.

The figure moved slowly towards him, with their security moving in unison along with them, emerging what seems to be a hand.

"Good Morning, Jim." Said President Sam Philips, after he disembarked his 737 in Sierra Apathia. It was early in the morning, and Sam couldn't help but admire Sierra Apathia. He was constantly looking out the window on his flight over here, admiring the mountains and landscape. It wasn't that different from the mountainous areas of Garimidia, he thought.

He extended his hand to Jim, whom he had met once before when he had traveled to Garimidia on a state visit. These two days we're going to be exciting, he thought, as the other two planes began to attach their electronic staircases.

Philips was excited. He hadn't had much time to meet other world leaders, apart from his ORNA allies, currently helping him fight the Indochina War. He had come here with diplomatic goals - a Free Trade Agreement, possibly an embassy/consulate and even military training exercises. All which would be next to impossible to fully negotiate in the time they would be here, but at least it would be a step in the right direction. He had hoped that all the leaders would be able to release a statement or agree to something at the end.

The morning sun shone brightly upon the two world leaders as their security details took up positions around them. The fresh smell of pine evident in the private airport. A bit strange, to have a pine smell in the airport Philips thought, but nonetheless a good thing at the same time.

"How have you been?" Philips asked his Apathian counterpart.

The beautiful Air Almajoya Charter Joanna touched down gracefully and taxied its way to the red carpet. Shortly thereafter, the Empress and her security detail disembarked.

Melisma Ramijozana had just glanced over the dossiers on the expected nations and recognized Garimidia's Sam Phillips standing next to Jim Stone. Jim had once paid Almajoya a visit, and had apparently been impressed enough to invite Melisma to these Discussions.

Sierra Apathia was quite beautiful. It was far less flat than Almajoya was in most places. Lost in thought, Melisma stepped carefully down the stairs and onto the red carpet, her small security detail close behind.

They approached the two men standing on the carpet. Melisma held her hand out to each of them. "How do you do," she said with a smile. "Good to see you, Jim." To Phillips, she said, "I'm Empress Melisma Ramijozana of Almajoya. You are President Phillips, yes?"

"Ah, yes. You must be Melisma Ramijozana of Almajoya. It's a pleasure to meet you." Said Philips as he extended his hand and shook Melisma's. This was the first contact Philips had had with an Almajoyan leader. The three leaders stood on the soft red carpet in the crisp morning sky, a mildly warm day, and a perfect one to have a state visit.

He knew the next two days were going to be great, Philips always enjoyed the kind of seriousness brought about by diplomatic meetings and the excitement brought about by a trip to a foreign land, and a chance to represent the country he was from.

The Altanian Jet carrying the Crown Prince of Altane, Adam flew over Sierra Apathia as Adam looked down upon the beautiful lands below.

The Altanian Jet touched down within minutes, and the occupants disembarked with many servants accompanying the Crown Prince with documents related to the topics that will be discussed during the summit.

Altane although an expanding empire had slowed down its current wave of expansion, and the Crown Prince was interested in taking up some State Affairs to do on behalf of his father, Victor XX of Altane while his father was away on other business. Adam was eager to meet other potential allies and was curious as to the local custom and the nations leadership.

He smiled at the three leaders, who were happily exchanging their greetings. The others have not arrived yet, so Jim suggested they climb into the Lounge area. "What would you like to drink first?" he said, bringing some mood into the conversation. The four were on teh red carpet, exposed to the outside elements. Secret Service wasn't normal for a day like this, and it was quadrupled. No matter what the cost, he wasn't going to let a small hiccup in security ruin such a fine day like this.

Jim Pointed the way to the small building. "So Your majesty, such a fine day to have you here. What would you like us to have while we wait for the other leaders?" Jim asked.

"Your majesty, welcome to Sierra Apathia, do you like what you see here? Its actually an honor to have such a powerful man visit our nation." said Jim, smiling along the way. They approached the building slowly...

'Well some refreshments couldn't hurt while we wait for the other leaders' replied Crown Prince Adam to President Jim Stone.

'Yes, it is a majestic sight a lot like Altane. I can understand, its especially rare to have had an ambassador or even a member of the Kuritan Imperial Family visit another nation since our ancient homeland has been isolated from the outside world for most of our history. But then again our history tells that only the Emperor's had contact with the outside world.' said Crown Prince Adam as he looks at the sights around him and following the President along the red carpet with his entourage following.

OOC: I have a feeling it's going to be just us four.

Philips replied to Jim's query about a drink. He wasn't in the mood for anything fancy, so he just replied, "A beer will be fine thanks. Nothing bad on the flight either, very nice." President Sam Philips, President Jim Stone, Crown Prince Adam and Empress Melisma Ramijozana walked to the lounge area on their red carpet.

"So, Mr. President. What will we be doing after all the leaders arrive?"

OOC: Yeah, you're right. Tell you what, lets say its four now. I can't handle more anyway. But, if they don't come, lets say they weren't able to make it due to some administration problems. Re-edit your posts in 24 hours.

IC:
As secret service accompanied them in a thick formation, the four leaders went inside and embraced the fresh, warm heating. Its close to autumn in Sierra Apathia, if none of them realized that. "Does Altane really have a classed society?" said Jim, really emphasizing on the thought that Altane's citizens enjoy high living. Concerning to say that the Royal family itself is pretty much on high living.

"I believe we could share some refreshments while waiting. I'd really like to hear what happened in Oliver Fox Bay, i woke up that morning to find it all over the news!" he exclaimed, and was actually worried about the intensity of the incident. Sam looked more serious than before, he sometimes reminded Jim of his father.

He asked Melisma if she could suggest what she'd like them to have, considering what Almajoya has to offer.

'Aye, indeed. Every community in Altane has at least 1 Aristocrat who often take part in the local events. The patriotic mood of our people and our Aristocracy often has our Aristocrats throwing parties for the local communities for national events, expansion victories and so forth.' explained Crown Prince Adam.

Melisma nodded at the Crown Prince's words. Such an arrangement was interesting, to say the least. She tried to imagine such in Almajoya and decided there wasn't much of a difference from the small bicameral legislative branch they had in place.

"There should be something for everyone," Melisma answered in response to Jim's request. "There is the Snapdragon coffee, from the mountains of the same name, renowned around the world for its unique and flavorful taste. There's also sorrel tea, which is both tasty and healthy.

"Fruit drink lovers might enjoy a glass of guava juice, a thick, pink juice with a decidedly tropical taste. There's also sorrel drink, made differently from the tea," she added with a wide smile, "but whether rum has been included in it, as is traditional in Almajoya, I am unsure."

OOC: Alamjoya
IC:
"Very well, i'd like to have some of those Snapdragon coffee." expressing the Apathian love in coffee. The vice president also wanted the bartender, whom was waiting anxiously by the group, to have some Sorrel. "I'm not a typical Apathian." he said, expressing his disgust. Jim looked at him and sneered. "Joking. But yeah, i'm not having coffee." said Jack, smiling, hiding his expression. They continued to walk, reaching a secluded area of the building.

"So really, any latest incidents in Almajoya? I have never got any updates until then." asked Jim.

OOC: Altane
IC:
"Very well indeed, actually we did have a royal family, but nowadays the royal blood line has been mixed and not pure." said Jim. "I heard Jack's one of them actually. He doesn't live such a luxurious life, until now that is." said Jim, looking at Jack, who was looking out the window along the way. "Does Altane take priority into Royal bloodline members?" asked Jim.

OOC: Sierra Apathia
"Ah, yes, Oliver Fox Bay. The incident there has caused a mass evacuation of the surrounding city. From what I understand, the radiation may affect nearby Pacs City, but the latest reports show the radiation is beginning to recede slowly. The Emergency Biological Response Team has done a good job so far in containing the radiation spread, and the reactor fire has been put out." Said Philips, remembering when he was first noted of an 'incident occurring at Oliver Fox Bay.' He was originally concerned something like Chernobyl could possibly happen.

OOC: Almajoya
"What lovely food!" Said Philips, in surprise. "Snapdragon coffee sounds unique. I think I'm going to have that." He looked at the menu and it all sounded good. He hadn't had something to drink or eat since halfway through his trip to Sierra Apathia, as he was focused on thinking about important thinks to discuss.

OOC: Altane
"Interesting system." Said Philips, expressing interest at Altane's system of Aristocrats, and the class system. "Unfortunately all we have is congress. Boring old congress. Senate, and a house of representatives. Very original." Said Philips, sarcastically.

Melisma made the difficult choice between guava and sorrel, then chose sorrel. Guava juice could be had any time of the year, but sorrel was seasonal. "Very good," she remarked.

"So really, any latest incidents in Almajoya? I have never got any updates until then." asked Jim.

"Let's see. The former General of the Armies confessed to arranging my kidnapping and killing a senator, and was just executed. That is the biggest news. Other than that, there have only been a few visits here and then." Of course, this was not the whole truth, but some things had to be kept hidden.

"What lovely food!" Said Philips, in surprise. "Snapdragon coffee sounds unique. I think I'm going to have that."

"Excellent choice," Melisma said, nodding. "Snapdragon coffee is only made with the best beans, and is produced by some of the finest coffee makers in the world. It is also made by entirely 'green' processes, as are most Almajoyese products."

'Well in Altanian society its 'first come first serve' we don't play favorites to the higher class. Suffice it to say our Aristocrats are real generous unch to the lower class. It is due to the education they recieve, a moral code established by our government that many live by, those who don't are not favored by society' Crown Prince said with pride in his countries customs and values.

OOC: Lets gather under one topic. Seriously, we're going all over the place here.

"It seems the remaining two have an obligation to attend." said Jim, noting the departure of the two remaining planes. "Please accompany me everyone, we're going to see the Estrada Palace." said Jim, persuading them to go outside and enjoy the fresh air. On their way out, Jim started again. "I'd really like to know what you have been doing in national progress for the past few months. For us, we've dropped the tax rate from a 100% to 50%." said Jim, who was delighted at the fact that he had achieved what his predecessor failed to do in six months, when he did it in two months.

As they approached the door, secret security raced towards their posts.

"We've managed to vastly improve security, and are slowly building up our economy," Melisma answered. "We've also managed to keep our taxes somewhat low- around twenty percent. Our private sector is still our 'ace in the hole.'" The Tourism industry was thriving, although the bauxite industry was dying a slow, drawn-out death, like everywhere else in the world.

"Yes, our tax rate is only 28%. We're thinking of raising that to about 32% in a few weeks. But our agenda always concerns foreign affairs as well, what with the current Indochina War looming over our heads. We're also downsizing our Air Force by 400,000 jobs and 500 aircraft by 2011." Said Philips, drawing deep breath. He was excited to be going to the Estrada Palace.

'Well tax rates in Altane are currently at 81% but we believe we'll be able to relax them now that our expansion campaigns have been relaxed, and with the benefits from our Altanian States our economy is now a powerhouse and we are recieving great benefits as a result of the commitment to our expansion agenda' said Crown Prince as they entered Estrada Palace along with the other delegates.

"I see everything well there, and i see that Sam and Melisma has done alot. I do recognize the importance of a refreshed administration. How often do you reorganize your cabinet, or should i say, your subordinates?" Jim asked. The four leaders stepped into a large limousine, a stretched out Hummer by General Motors. A small company still manufactures the licensed copies.

The limo slowly began to gain speed, before eventually stopping nearby a junction.

"We've got an election coming up next fall," Melisma said. "I'm sure there will be some reshuffling of the Cabinet. I'm looking forward to working with some new faces and fresh ideas."

She didn't mention that the attempt on her life that past summer had already resulted in some "shuffling."

"And yes, trust is extremely important," she added with a little laugh. Nobody knew that better than she did.

The sights of Sierra Apathia reminded Philips very much of his hometown in Dastin City, the capital of Garimidia. He swore he saw the same blue house that was just a few blocks down from where he lived in Dastin when he was growing up, in the 60s and 70s.

Philips administration in Garimidia had dealt with many things since it began on January 15, 2008. First of all, a war that was inherited from the previous administration, named the Indochina War, and the allies led by Garimidia didn't appear to be winning, and thousands had lost their lives. The reports of the grisly deaths on the news and hearing reports of ambushes on troops made Philips all the more conscious about the war, and took a large personal toll. Then, several wars in 2009 over a range of things.

There was no better time to have a political friend than enemy, he thought as the Limo drove on. He was sitting with four of his diplomatic acquaintances, all of which had pretty much gone through the same political incidents as he had, all potential good diplomatic friends. For him, the personal aspect mattered very much in having a successful diplomatic relation than just the politics, an idea which many of his predecessors had failed to realise.
