PM Joshua McIntosh's Address
The spokesperson for the Constitutional Court, (which resides in the Supreme Court) Harry McGloughny, gave the official declaration this morning at 9:32. It confirmed that the Overlord's actions were found to be unlawful and against constitutional procedure, therefore he would stand trial on the 20th January.
Due to the nature of the trial and the accusations, the Overlord has been ordered to submit his letter of resignation before the date of the trial.
Some believed it would be war, others thought it would be total anarchy, but a triumphant Prime Minister gave his address to the Federal Assembly today, marking the end of this tumultuous period in modern Noronnican memory. In an act of humility, the Prime Minister made his address from a podium on the lower stand of the chamber's dais, refusing to sit on the Speaker's chair. This, he stated, was because of his belief that he is not a figure to be deified but a Noronnican citizen. This fact was widely celebrated by supporters, who hailed this act as something that shows the 'humility of a true leader'.
Prime Minister Joshua McIntosh reiterated the ruling of the Supreme Court by issuing the Government's own demands:
"[...] Therefore the Government and Federal Assembly do hereby demand under constitutional law that the Overlord submits his letter of abdication so that he may stand trial before the Supreme Court before the twentieth of January of two-thousand and nineteen. Naturally, he shall revoke all command of any military units currently under his control, due to his position of Commander-in-Chief being revoked."
This comes after weeks of silence after the Prime Minister's demand that the Overlord relinquishes his command over the 31st Infantry Brigade. While no movements have been noted in the Sessux Isle, there has been no response to this prior demand. Upon speaking to a wide variety of Federal Assemblymen, the general consensus that the NMC gathered was that the Overlord will have no choice but to go ahead and agree with the Prime Minister's renewed demands. The war of words is finished.
Addressing comments made by foreign officials, the Prime Minister also had this to say:
"It does sadden me that our staunch ally Wellsia has taken such an adverse reaction to the current events in Noronica. I would hope that they recognise that this is not defamation or aggression towards the monarchy, it is treating an average citizen with the same fair access to justice that any would receive. In the eyes of the law, no one is favoured. To the Government of Razzgriz, thankfully there is no longer any need for peacekeeping as the division within Noronica is finally at an end. Finally, to all of those watching the situation in Noronica with interest, I reflect a similar message, Noronica is back to normal and should be treated as such."
So far, no comments have been made on Arván, only that the Prime Minister is 'pleased to see that the situation has de-escalated'.
Talks of succession have begun, with the heir apparent HRH Prince Trystan set to become the new Overlord under the new Monarchy Act 2018. This is likely to occur in February, after the trial of the current Overlord.
Speaking with Malcolm Schmitt, Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, he had this remark:
"Surely this is the best Christmas present the Prime Minister, and indeed the country, could have asked for."
