Hey Mercatus, are you planning to join the discord at some point? OP should have given you the link, and it makes it much easier to manage the mechanics system of the RP

Alright, Merctus, I'm going to have to redact your last post

We are doing a rolling system for combat, and as you have not joined the discord, the only way I see to be fair and equal with everyone is for me to do your combat rolls for you. To facilitate your unique circumstance, we'll be co-writing your fight between you and Hades through Telegrams.

So like I said, clear our your last post

And here we go. An app. Trying something a little new in regards to the powers, so yeah... Let me know if there are any issues. Quarantine means I got plenty of time to work on fixing parts

Argus Metahuman File

Name: Mireille Floressa
Alias: Trick
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Image
Mireille stands at about 165cm (~5'5")

Powers:
Showman's Trickery - Before going to deep into Mireille's powers, it is important to know that they are all products of a single source. That source is magic, specifically a type of magic that Mireille refers to as "Showman's Trickery". All of Mireille's powers are connected to Showman's Trickery, which is magic based on things related to "magic" you would see in magic shows.

Showman's Palm - Mireille is capable of taking the act of palming to the next level with Showman's Trickery. The premise behind Showman's Palm and the act of palming are the same, and that is hiding an object in the hand in such a way that the hand looks empty. While mundane palming requires a certain point of view to be effective, Showman's Palm allows Mireille to employ magic to make her hands appear to be empty even if an object is in them, while still allowing her to use her hands as normal.

Now, it is important to know that she can use Showman's Palm only on objects that can fit in her hand, but the number of objects that she can have hidden in a single hand can vary depending on the size of the object. Basically it is limited by the number of objects that fit in the hand, and the objects in the hand can not be different. For example, she can Showman's Palm a multitude of coins, but can not Showman's Palm a few coins and a few dice. Time she can keep the objects concealed also varies depending on the size of the object. For example, a handful of quarters can be kept hidden for hours, while an average sized handgun can only be concealed for a few minutes at most.

Speaking of weapons, Mireille is capable of using Showman's Palm on weaponry that can fit in her hand, but there are a few more things to keep aware of. One, due to the size of weaponry from a small knife to a handgun, she can only hide one per hand. Two, to use the weapon she needs to reveal it, and thus she can not use a weapon concealed by Showman's Palm for an attack from seemingly nowhere.

Showman's Ditch and Load - By using Showman's Trickery, Mireille is capable of storing objects that can fit in her hand in a small pocket dimension she refers to as her "pocket space". Again, this power is limited by the size of the object, as she can only store things that she can hold in a single hand. It is worth noting that objects she can Ditch and Load must not be living and can not be hidden via Showman's Palm. To store an object, the object also has to be in contact with her hand. The size and quantity of the object or objects also has an effect on the amount of energy used in the process of putting it away or removing it, for example, a quarter is much easier to put away or remove than a handful of quarters, while a handful of quarters is still easier to put away or remove than a handgun. Finally, there is also a limit to how much can be stored in her pocket space at a time, and as such it is not infinite storage. Objects removed from pocket space seemingly appear out of nowhere to most eyes. Mireille can make the objects seemingly appear out of thin air, from a pocket, from her mouth, and really anywhere she can imagine.

Showman's Steal and Switch - Showman's Trickery allows for Mireille the capability to obtain objects from around her. Showman's Steal and Switch allows Mireille to instantly teleport any object that could fit into a single hand from anywhere in a 10 metre radius around her, or switch the position of two objects of similar size. It is very important to remember that objects must be able to fit into a single hand of hers, along with that the size and quantity of the object determines how much energy is required (see Showman's Ditch and Load). Speaking of Showman's Ditch and Load, Showman's Steal and Switch can not be used to remove objects from pocket space or send an object into pocket space. Another limitation on the steal part is that she needs one empty hand for it, and therefore can not have anything hidden by Showman's Palming in the hand she is using for the steal.

The location of the object or objects that Mireille is looking to using Showman's Steal and Switch has to be known to her. For example, if a pen was on a desk that she could see, she could use Showman's Steal and Switch on it, but if that pen was in a drawer, she could not use Showman's Steal and Switch on it. However, if Mireille saw someone place the pen into the drawer, and was certain their was no trickery at play, she could still use Showman's Steal and Switch on the pen. The same applies to objects she may have hidden on her person. In regard to the switch part, the objects being switched must be the same or similar size and shape. The switch part also requires approximately twice the concentration and energy expenditure as the steal part.

It might also be important to mention that while theoretically she could remove the magazine or bullets from a gun with Showman's Steal and Switch, in practice she can not, as for the purpose of Showman's Steal and Switch, the magazine and bullets are part of the gun, as she still isn't quite that skilled yet. Therefore, she would have to use Showman's Steal and Switch on the gun. Speaking of guns and weapons, what is to stop her from swiftly disarming enemies? Well beyond the size limit, and the fact she only has two hands that need to be empty, Showman's Steal and Switch have the energy cost increase exponentially with uses in quick succession, such that after 4 uses in quick succession of the steal part or only 2 uses of the switch part on weaponry the cost becomes to much for Mireille.

Showman's Simulation and Misdirection - Showman's Trickery allows Mireille to create illusions focused on herself and the area around her. Showman's Simulation and Misdirection allows her to change her physical appearance, voice, the sound of her footsteps, while also being able to create illusions that act on one or more of the five sense, leading to a varying degree of complexity. The range of her illusions is a 10 metre radius around her. Mireille is unfortunately unable to use this power to turn herself invisible. Of course, the complexity of the illusion she places on herself with Showman's Simulation and Misdirection effects how long she can keep it up. If an illusion is complex enough, it can also interact wit

Drawbacks & Limitations:
Limitations on all the abilities of Showman's Trickery are mentioned in the write up on Mireille's abilities.

All of Mireille's abilities require energy to employ, and as such, using her abilities too much can tire her out. The only way for her to recover energy is by sleeping, so if she uses her powers to much, Mireille can grow tired and even fall asleep even in the middle of a fight. Note that this tiredness is a result of the use of magic, and not the same as you are tired after a day of work. While she can resist it, it ultimately will overpower her. If she falls asleep due to using her powers too much, then her magic will keep her asleep for 8 hours minimum.

Weaknesses: Insulting her uncle is a good way to get her worked up and thus interfere with her being able to think properly and concentrate properly, leading to making her abilities becoming more demanding and harder for her to use. Playing on her ego and gambling itch can also lead to issues for Mireille in certain situations. Beyond that, there is the obvious, she's ultimately human and can be killed like any passerby on the streets.

Equipment and weapons:
  • Wallet with what you would expect in it, and her business cards
  • A brand new Deck of Playing Cards
  • An opened Deck of Playing Cards
  • Phone and earphones
  • Hair pins
  • Pocket change
  • Black Leather Notepad
  • A Black Pen
  • Stress Ball
  • Set of Random Keys
  • A Pair of Dice
  • A lighter
  • A pocket flashlight
  • A handkerchief

  • 50 Decks of Card
  • A set of UNO cards
  • Plenty of Dice
  • 6 Smoke Bombs
  • 4 Flashbangs
  • A bag of pocket change from around the world
  • 20 Large handkerchiefs
  • 2 Brass Knuckles
  • 3 Handheld Tasers
  • A SIG Sauer P226
  • 10x 15 Round Magazines with 9×19mm Parabellum ammo
  • A variety of fake fruit

Also worth noting is that she also has a violin, but that is to large to always carry on her person or keep in her pocket space. Same goes for the acoustic guitar.

BACKGROUND

Nationality: Canadian-American
Hometown: Val-d'Or, Quebec, Canada

Personality: Mireille is first and foremost a show person, as such she can be described as outgoing, social, charismatic, and such. She is rarely ever seen without a smile on her face and unwilling to brighten another persons day with a trick or two. That said, she is human, and does have moments of sadness, especially when someone brings up her uncle or family of any kind. You see, even to this day, she can't help but feel a little disheartened when she sees people talking happily about family or with family. This is simply due to her missing her family, missing her uncle. Speaking of her uncle, do not insult him in her presence, as that can lead to her flipping out. It is also worth noting that Mireille is unafraid to speak her mind, but is smart enough to know when to hold her tongue. That said, she can be a bit of a smartass at times. She can be competitive at times, and is occasionally up for betting on random things (she knows no one who knows her would play cards with her, but she's got that gambling itch that sometimes needs to be scratched). Mireille is also not afraid to try new things, and is very adventurous. Despite everything mentioned above, do not think that she is a trusting individual. She was raised, and before joining the Argonauts was involved in a profession where lying and fooling others is one of the most important things you need to do.

Bio: Born in the city of Val-d'Or in Quebec, Canada, Mireille's early life was incredibly normal. Her parents where normal, her education was normal. In fact, the only thing that could have been special about her was that she grew up bilingual, due to her American mother. With all that said, everything changed when her parents where both killed when she was 6 years old.

At 6 years old, after her parents were found dead, her uncle on her mothers side took her in. She moved from Val-d'Or to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was with her uncle, Oswald Thane, that she learned that she was special. In fact, her family on her mothers side had always been special. They were talented in magic, and that talent had been passed down to Mireille. It was with her Uncle Thane that she learned to use the magic that had been pasted down in the family for generations, the "Showman's Trickery". Oswald also taught her the rest of what she knows to this day, as while he did use magic, he made his living as a show magician, using Showman's Trickery to aid in his shows. It is worth noting that this was a grey area, but a grey area that Oswald had permission to use his abilities in. By time Mireille was 14, she was assisting her uncle in his shows, however she was not yet able to use her abilities in the show, but was still registered.

But why did Uncle Thane teach her how to fight? Well, her uncle had a secret. He was involved with a few shady groups, that he never fully trusted. So, for her protection, Oswald made sure she knew how to defend herself, and did everything in his power to keep her in the dark about his secret dealings and less than legal activities. He saw something in Mireille, something he did not want to taint with his bad decisions. Eventually, Mireille would learn of his secrets, unfortunately it took Oswald's death for her to learn of it. When she was 16, she returned home from buying a few things for the next show only to find her uncle Thane dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

The person who killed her uncle was eventually caught, and everything that he had kept secret from Mireille came to light. This lead to Mireille being questioned under the suspicion that she was involved with what her uncle would do in secret. Through the entire process, Mireille would deny being involved with her uncle's secret dealings, and she would eventually be let go as a note found in one of her uncle's journal revealed that she had nothing to do with anything illegal he did. After being let go, she spent a year or so trying to figure out who her uncle was to her now. She eventually came to the conclusion that while Oswald had issues, he was still a good man, and despite his actions, Mireille could find no reason to doubt that he cared for her.

After three years in solitude, spent studying, thinking and practicing with her abilities, Mireille sought to return to the one thing she ever wanted to do. She wanted to return to the stage, return to making people happy with her abilities no matter what. And so, she sought to be sanctioned. Only after she was sanctioned did sell most everything that was left to her by her uncle, bought a van and everything she would need for a life on the road. A life bringing joy to others with her abilities, under the name of Trick. That said, she would occasionally do work as a sanctioned hero, but not much.

5 years since she began her life on the road, ARGUS contacted her, and one thing lead to another, and now, Trick is set to join the Argonauts. She sees the Argonauts as yet another way she can bring joy with her powers, and use what her uncle taught her.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Fears/Phobias: She definitely has a fear of not being able to bring joy to others with her abilities, but that is not enough to constitute a phobia. But that is not to say she doesn't have a phobia. In fact, Mireille does suffer from escalaphobia, the fear of escalators. She can not explain this phobia, as she is fine with heights and crowds, but for some unknown reason escalators, especially escalators going down, freak her out completely.
Skills: Sleight of Hand, Show Magic Techniques, Knife-fighting, Knife Throwing, Martial Arts (not a master, knows enough to fight though), Escapology, Show Person (Musician, Actor, Singer), Quick Witted, Not a bad driver (5 years on the road), speaks four languages (English, French, Spanish, and Japanese), above average athlete (just above the average person)
Theme: No theme... instead I am working on a playlist for Mireille.

I'm interested in joining the RP, and I've read up on the lore thread. I wanted to run the power I was thinking of through an OP or Co-OP to make sure it was viable.

My idea is basically "mime powers", where one can form thought wave constructs by acting things out like a mime. For example, to build a wall, the user would mime using their hands to screen themselves. Or to keep warm, they mime an imaginary coat. At the start, these powers would be weak, and consist mostly of static objects, but as time progresses, they would become more complex and powerful, such as using the thumb and finger for a mimed gun or driving an imaginary car. Thoughts?

It sounds like it has the potential to be really, really busted, considering the limits are basically the player's imagination. Since nobody else can see the objects, it takes some control out of the players hands as it can be abused to say something like "I mime a 10ft pike and stab him as he runs." and there's no indication in the real world that there's anything there.

Get what I mean?

That being said, the OP's word is the final word, not mine.

Okay, I like the direction, and it falls under my rules for magic, but there is quite a few applications. I would request singling out a few that you would really like to keep.

Yeah, that could be very powerful. I'm going to need a hard limitation on what they could make, or perhaps redoing a power and giving an exhaustive list of possible creations. Even then, I don't know, that's powerful.

Never mind then, I'll just scrap that idea.

I had a few other power ideas that I was bouncing around, one of which was an idea centering around maps. The character would be essentially be able to view a physical map of an area and see certain information, such as how many people are there, a detailed view of the topography, etc. The more detailed and complete the map is, the better, so a detailed floor plan versus an outside view will likely yield better and more accurate results. Would basically make him/her a support role character. Would this be a little less overpowered and work better with the environment of the RP?

It would be more friendly to the rp, but keep some things in mind:
  1. Its hard to convey accurate detail relating to topography in rp terms, and listing out people, etc will not be fun
  2. Hades is already somewhat capable of this as a character.
  3. It gives you very little to do past telling everyone what the scenario is and then hanging back

Alright then. I just have really bad writer's block and I'm kind of struggling to come up with a power because someone else took my ideal one. I'll probably sleep on it and come back later when I have a better idea in mind.

The short answer is yes to the points you set forward. Regardless of your opinion on the situation, several people found your behavior to not be compatible with the spirit of the rp and myself as an OP. Therefore, I think you will find better success in another RP thread.

You may want to try aerokinesis? Or perhaps affecting the pressure/density of air within a certain range. That would accomplish similar goals to your initial character design but with limitations that might be more palatable. Obviously not OP

I had an idea today for a six-year-old that summons eldrich Teletubbies when he's angry or frightened. You can have that one.

Not a serious app (unless you really like it) just something we were talking about.
Argus Metahuman File

Name: Benny Alderschott
Alias: Mr. Scary
Age: 40. Apparent Age: 6
Gender: Male
For all intents and purposes Benny appears to be a normal, towheaded, slightly underfed white male toddler.

When his powers activate, however (usually from a strong negative emotion such as anger or fear), his body hangs a few feet in the air, limp like a marionette. His mouth hangs open, his eyes, iris, pupil, and sclera turn an oily, slithery black, and a writhing, oily black nimbus forms around his body. The air surrounding him echoes with a hoarse, guttural, amphibian cadence that cannot be matched to any known linguistic family. This is the entity Benny refers to as "Mr. Scary"

Powers: Once "Mr. Scary" is activated, from one to four eldritch abominations appear soon after, seemingly tied to the intensity of the emotion that summons the entity. These creatures appear out of shadows, doorways, or windows. Their appearance is accompanied by a hissing, ripping sound, described as television or radio signal static.

These creatures, while appearing formidable are only able to attack with a simple bludgeoning assault, but due to the weight and density of the creatures the impact of these blows are considerable. The creatures are not indestructible, but they can absorb massive amounts of damage before being destroyed.

When destroyed, the creatures crumble into a pile of old, abandoned toys, furniture, and other debris. These items register on spectrographic analysis as originating somewhere other than our world, and are all coated in an oily, black, mildly caustic slime and patches of a black and grey lichen-like material.

If the instigating incident continues while even one of the creatures are still active, a new one may be summoned, no more than four at a time, to replace fallen one after an interval of ten or more minutes.

If all the creatures are destroyed or the instigating incident is removed (the object, person, or situation that caused the emotional reaction), "Mr Scary" will depart; all the effects of his presence as well as any creatures that remain will simply vanish, and Barry will resume his normal appearance and with only vague memories of the incident.

Drawbacks & Limitations:
While summoned, "Mr. Scary is completely out of Barry's control. Whatever agenda or desires the entity may have is unknown, but thus far seems focused only on protecting the boy; This "protection", however, is indiscriminate and seems to be reckoned from the perspective of an emotional toddler, failing to make nuanced judgements regarding friend or foe; for instance, the destruction of the other members of the Alderschott family.

Weaknesses: (If applicable)
The creatures are easily damaged even by improvised weapons or unarmed attacks. Some kind of force field protects the Mr. Scary entity while active, but seems to dissipate on the destruction of the creatures for a few seconds before the entity vanishes.
No extensive tests have been done on Barry himself, for fear of activating the entity, But in 34 years of observation the child has not been ill, injured, or harmed in any observable manner. Barry does seem to feel the effects of temperature and other environmental effects, including windburn, dry skin, and sunburn. DO NOT FORGET SUNSCREEN!

Equipment and weapons: (please list, if applicable)
1) ancient, creepy, porcelain doll.

BACKGROUND

Nationality: American
Hometown: Suburban Akron, Ohio

Personality:
Barry is sweet, friendly, curious young boy. No discernable personality traits have been observed for "Mr.Scary".

Bio:
Barry seems to have had a reasonably normal childhood. Shortly after his sixth birthday, his mother contacted Argus, leaving a rambling phone message about a strange incident involving a video cassette tape obtained by the family, ostensibly containing a children's entertainment program. She reported everything seemed fine with the tape as long as someone was in the room with Barry, bit noted the boy refused to watch any other program. One afternoon, her account alleges, Barry's mother was in the kitchen washing dishes when she saw the television program reflected in the kitchen window. Instead of the colorful fantasy puppet land she had always previously observed, the screen was filled with a grey, dark, expressionist landscape dominated by a sun with an ancient, wrinkled face and a pained, maniacal grimace.
By the time the Argus team arrived to investigate, the home was a crater. Barry was found in the rubble, playing with a toy matching the description of those shed by the creatures, a china doll with a crazed expression and a maker's mark from the 19th century. No trace of the tape has been found.
This incident occurred in 1986. Barry's estimated age is forty years old, but retains the outward appearance and mentality of a toddler, suggesting that the entity's influence has halted his aging.

He's oozing creativity, but I don't know that the Argonauts would directly recruit him. I'd love to see him as an NPC in a mission, though.
