I think that's it, just generally don't be a dick

Support Units:
F-4 Phantom Strike Fighter Pilot:
55th Field Artillery M102 Battery Gunner/Officer:

Situation: A major high way (designated Highway 12) has been cut off by a recent attack from NVA forces. 111th Mechanized Infantry Regiment along with a batterie of M102 Howitzers from the 55th Field Artillery Regiment. So far Division command believes there is a single NVA battalion operating in the area, most likely from the 73rd People's Rifles Regiment but this is unconfirmed and so far only a single company strength unit has been spotted.

We are equipped with enough M113 APCs to transport the entire regiment into battle so travel time should not be an issue. The assorted machine guns they carry will bolster total fire power as well, bringing heavy machine guns close in. Artillery support and some air assets will be available to company and battalion commanders though expect delays as heavy fighting takes place to the north.

Colonel Adam North is designated "Sunray", M102 Artillery Captain is designated "Shelldrake". Company and battalion commanders may designated their own call signs as they deem fit. Battalions will remain using the over all Alpha, Bravo, Charlie designations but individual COs will choose a designation that refers to them alone.

Image

Briefing:

Alpha battalion will be moving directly east towards the forest before cutting south and hitting the northern flank of the confirmed enemy company. Charlie will move south east and come up north, hitting the southern flank. Bravo will be held in reserve, moving along the highway but not engaging unless fired upon.

fire assets are standing by, a flight of F-4 Phantoms with napalm and a battery of M102 field guns are awaiting tasking should the 73rd Battalion appear in strength.

The enemy company is currently holding in a town of 800 people called Thành Phố, fire support on this town is completely banned to avoid civilian casualties. Company officers will need to move in and clear the area building by building. Should the enemy leave the civilian populated area then fire support will be retasked to you.

While we suspect the 73rd Battalion is operating in the area we believe this single company is all that has been tasked to cut off the highway. Most likely the majority of the 73rd is fighting and supporting combat operations to the north where the rest of our division is countering them. Good luck, I'll see you in Thành Phố!

Encampment

Captain Foster was making plans for Jester Company's advance toward the enemy division. "Lieutenant, you need to get the platoon back to our encampment ASAP. The company is going to head around the lone company in the Vietnamese village and reconnoiter the main bulk of the division for weak spots." "Roger that, Captain. Bringing the platoon back to your position, over." "Good. Get it back soon." Walking over to the Gunnery Sergeant who had just arrived from another unit, he spoke. "Gunnery Sergeant, you're going to cover Lieutenant Peterman's platoon while they make their advance over here. Check for any Vietcong hiding in the jungle."

Then Foster walked over to a Lance Corporal that he saw for his potential. "Lance Corporal Sasgaar, is it?" He asked. "You're with me. I'll be watching, as you have potential and we wouldn't want to waste that with a rank such as yours, hmm?"

Alpha battalion camp

"Alright Alpha company. Listen up" said Captian Kurt. "We're going to be moving out soon so get your kit and form together. All platoon leaders i need you in a few minutes. The rest of you lot. Follow orders. Keep your buddy safe and don't die on me. Alright. Prepare to deploy."

Walking into the main command tent Kurt quickly got his orders that command had just sent. Reading over it he grew frustrated "Leading the way for alpha Battalion, Bullshit" Taking out a cigarette he Called for Alpha Company's first lieutenant.

"Look here. Battalion HQ has seen it fit to send us first again. High Command has its head shoved another few inches up its ass."

As the rest of the lieutenants from alpha company entered the command tent Kurt began listing off their objectives. "Right We're going to lead the battalion to the village from the east and then storm the village from the north. Bravo company should be making sure our east flank once we assault the village. We have air and artillery support however because we have civvies in the village we cant call in support in the area until they either leave or the VC kills them. I know the second is unlikely but who knows?. Anyways, Keep your men safe. Lets go out and kill these Ess Oh Bees. We move out in ten"

Nathan Sarsgaar

The heat was something straight out of a bad movie about hell. The sun beat'd down on you like Cassius Clay, and it felt like you were breathing water rather then air it was so humid. I was sitting with one of the troop carriers while one of the other guys played 2+2 by Bob Seger on a portable record play one of there girls brought them. It was a damn good song and plenty good and describing this war, I was one of the few guys who actually signed up for this fire whatever reason. Maybe I was trying trying to be like my dad? After all he always did fill my mind with stories of him fighting Reds in Finland and Defending the homeland from the living room of some old ladies house back in Skagen. But whatever my reasoning for joining up it was a regrettable one at that with little in the way of personal advancement aside from being a fucking death zombie the rest of your life.

My battle dress was the typical green mine however had a caked on layer of mud from earlier missions and scouting jobs. It wasn't horrible I should add but it was definetly noticeable. I was sitting down down cleaning the crap out of my beautiful M14 rifle whom i effectionetly called Laura. It was a running joke with some of my buddies usually ether how I would marry her or how I keep better care of her than I do myself. It was all good fun even if there was a grain of truth to it. As I finished up oiling up my the firing mechanism and cleaning out some of the mud gummed up in there I heard one of the guys. Captan Forest was an odd fellow to say the least.

"Uhhh it's Sarsgaar sir." I said in response with really the only thing I could really mutter out before standing up and following him on his order picking up my rifle to see the carving on the left side of the buttstock, Laura it read with a crude widdiling job you'd see on trees where people had carved there names. It wasn't anything special really but it maker her a one of a kind at least in my mind.

Although I respected his enthusiasm at my potential it really didn't leave me with any more will then if he hadn't. I was so bright eyed a bushy tailed about this whole thing until I actually got here and saw how much of a pointless bloodbath it was. We'd kill people a lot of them innocent and uninvolved in the NVA of VC. And they'd boobytrape their dead. It was just a sick cat a mouse game really seemed like this war wasn't objective based but rather based on who could pull off the cruelest acts of inhumanity also made the soviets look like angels at times.

But I kept on my way behind the Captan loading a full mag into my rifle and loading her up to spit hot lead at those VC fucks. I couldn't really tell why my blood boiled at the mention of that name. Maybe it's there ise of human shields, or there dirty and sick traps. Last encounter I had they boo treated a stillborn with a grenade and killed three guys that way all in the name of communism. We might not have been saints ourselves far from it really but we were at least a bit better then them and that's the dividing factor in my mind.

Thành Phố

The NVA had been in the town for the last week in few numbers. only in the last 48 hours had they had the courage to actually block off the highway. An ARVN patrol of three jeeps and half a dozen men had been ambushed and slaughtered some hours beforehand, they had never gotten a radio warning back to their head quarters section and only when they never reached their destination did anyone know what had happened. The small detachment was an under strength NVA company of roughly 90 men, they had been equipped with the latest AK-47 rifles and had even taken a few heavy weapons from the battalion. They were feeling confident as the morning sun rose and the distant growl of APCs could be heard. They expected another quick and decisive ambush.

Charlie Battalion

The infantry had been packing and loading for the last hour, clearing up the encampment they'd been holding for the past week. Dozens of M113 APCs were scattered across the area in dug in hull-down positions while hundreds of men cleared out their fox holes and loaded into the vehicles. There really wasn't much to it, orders were orders and they were to move regardless of any personal dissent. No one really knew what was going on, it was just another combat sweep for the enemy, one of hundreds going on all across Vietnam. The heavy vehicles growled to life, chucking out smoke from the diesel engines and kicking into life. It would be a long day.

Charles loaded his rifle, letting the bolt slam shut. He loved that sound, made him feel powerful. His mission was to provide cover for Alpha wherever they went. Nothing too hard. Wiping some sweat from his eyes, he walked over to the Lt.

"What's the plan sir?" He asked. The lieutenant had an M14 like him, but his was a little older and had more character. Charles's on the other hand was pretty new, but worked just as well.

Alpha Battalion, 3rd Company, 1st Platoon
ROK Daewi Jung Jun

Hot, sticky and wet, those were the only way for Jun to describe Vietnam. The heat of Korea could not compare to Vietnam and the fact that his fully loaded combat pack hung on his back was not helping. He would have to constantly change his socks to avoid getting on disease from the water that always sloshed into his boots. Jun truly was in a hellhole called Vietnam and his unit wasn't even in battle yet though it seemed he would be soon. The entire Alpha battalion was moving east and then south to converge on a small village held by a token force. It was a time the Jun would really come into use as most american GIs had no idea when it came to speaking Vietnamese but Jun was nearly fluent. They would need his expertise to communicate with the civilians in town,

Jun's thoughts were interrupted as Miller, his best friend in the platoon, bumped him. "looks like we will be seeing some action today Jun" he said casually almost like he wasn't in a war torn country. "looks like it" responded Jun in heavily accented English. It sounded Korean and strangely southern american though no one is quite sure how it developed. "I hear were going up against only a token force"spoke Jun to Miller to which he responded "the smaller the better for us. We actually want to return home". It was then that the platoon received the order to began to march into east into the Jungle.

They platoon had only been marching for about 10 minutes when something caught Jun's eye and he quickly ordered stop just in time. Right in front of Miller was a spike pit that was covered in grass and leaves but left a small amount of Bamboo showing. The platoon quickly destroyed the trap making sure no other soldiers would fall into death's embrace. Miller clapped Jun on the back as the platoon began to march again "you saved me there buddy" he said with a smile

111th Mechanized Infantry Regiment

The three battalions that made up the regiment were on the move, their M113 APCs giving the infantry unprecedented speed. They darted across the open fields and dirt roads of Vietnam, the interior of the vehicles not making the most luxurious experience for the men inside but it was better than eating bullets. The three battalions hit their points of dismount and now Alpha battalion was sitting just over a kilometre north of the town with their flank to the heavy jungle. Charlie battalion was mirroring them to the south while Bravo cut off anyone attempting to exit the town and head west.

The radio signal for the assault was given and word was that a 4 ship of Huey gunships might be on station in the next ten minutes to assist. The men on the ground could hear the distant firing of M102 howitzers from near the HQ to the west. They were firing in support of friendly forces far to the north and was a reminder of how little fire support they had. Very little fire could be brought to bear on the town full of civilians and the gunships, if they ever arrived, would need clear designation of targets and friendlies via smoke and radio. Coordinating strikes was a dangerous business and represented one of the most difficult tasks the army could ask a man to do.

Now it was up to Alpha and Charlie battalion to hit the town. The order was given by the battalion officers and now they headed in. Despite massive numerical superiority there was limited intel and the enemy was defending a fortified position. The men on the ground would decide how this attack went.
