Pine Creek Stables (IC)

Postby Terintania » Fri Oct 18, 2013 11:11 am

It was a sunny spring day at Pine Creek Stables, in Washington, and people were just beginning to arrive for their lessons and their work. Max, the stable owner, was getting things prepared for a few new boarders who were coming in today. He was also preparing for the new stable hand he was getting, who was only here on probation. He wasn't all to convinced about the idea of letting someone work here under probation, but his mom had managed to convince him it was a good idea, so he went along with it.

The first of the new boarders to arrive was Drake, who's driving skills were questionable, to say the least. He pulled in to the long drive that lead to the stable, nearly running over a sign on the side of the road as he did so. He wasn't accustomed to driving a pickup truck, let alone a pickup truck with a trailer. He didn't really have a choice, though, seeing as he didn't have the money to hire a driver, and didn't have any family or friends to do it for him. So, he just had to make do.

Eventually he reached the end of the drive and pulled up, parking rather crappily, but not too horribly. He could hear Shadowplay kicking the walls of the trailer, and he figured he'd better get him out before he kicked the trailer to pieces. Hopping out of his car, he went to the back of the trailer, lowering the ramp and being careful not to get kicked in the face. He then proceeded around the front of the trailer to back Shadowplay out, even though the horse didn't need much coaxing before he backed out at full speed, then reared up to his full height. Drake just barely managed to hold on to the lead rope as it was yanked through his hand. He gritted his teeth and held on as Shadowplay reared up again, striking out with his hooves, though be careful not to hit Drake.

This was the first time Shadowplay had been put in a trailer, and the first time he had been unwillingly moved from on location to another, and he did not like it one bit. The strange sights and sounds, the people. Why had Drake brought him to this place, so different and unfamiliar? He pulled back hard on the rope, nearly causing Drake to faceplant. He just wanted to get away from this place, back to the forest.

Max saw that the new boarder's horse was quite spirited, to say the least, and decided that maybe the boarder could use some help. He started over toward Drake, but Drake threw his hand up toward Max and said,"No, you'll only make it worse." Max stopped short and just watched, frowning.

Drake grabbed ahold on Shadowplay's halter, giving him very little room to move his head and rear up. "Shhh, shh, it's OK," He said softly, using all his strength to hold his ground against the startled horse. At the sound of his voice, Shadowplay's ears flicked forward and he stopped struggling. "Shh. I know it's strange, and different," Drake continued, rubbing Shadowplay's cheek,"But it won't be so scary after a while, and I think it will be good for both of us. You'll just have to trust me," He said gently,"You do trust me, don't you, boy?"

Shadowplay nickered quietly, then pressed his head against Drake's chest. "No one's going to hurt you," Drake said, leaning his head against Shadowplay's large head. Max watched all this in awe. He had just seen a horse go from crazy to completely calm in a matter of seconds, just from the sound of his owner's voice. He could immediately tell that the two had a special connection. After sitting like that for a bit, Drake pulled back from Shadowplay, turning to Max. "Sorry about that. He's shy around other people," He said, in explanation for why he'd said that Max would just make it worse.
Max smiled reassuringly,"No problem," He said,"If you want, you can put him in the pasture to cool off while we take care of business.
Drake smiled and nodded,"Probably a good idea," He said, letting Max lead the way. Once Shadowplay was in the pasture, he followed Max to take care of paperwork and whatnot.

(Makayla)
Makayla was the second new boarder-slash-student to arrive. She was quite literally nauseous with excitement, but it was something that she was used to, so she just dealt with it. Her horse was already at the stable. When they had bought it, the horse had already been named, and they decided it was best not to change the name, even though, in her opinion, the name was a little....lame. A bronze colored horse named Bronze. Very creative. She had heard worse, though. Like Bicycle Man. If her horse had been named Bicycle Man, she would have changed it's name, no matter how much the horse was used to it. Ok, maybe not, but she would definitely try to give it a decent nickname.

As their red van pulled up outside the stable, she closed her eyes and took three deep breaths. It was completely pointless, really, but it was worth a try. Grabbing her container of Calms, she decided it was high time that she nagged her dad into getting her an appointment to do something about her anxiety. Then again, being in social situations like this might be a cure in itself, once she got used to it. She guessed she would just find out.

Hopping out of the car, she made sure she had her helmet. She was just wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a pair of knee-hight black buckled boots, which were the closest thing she had to riding boots, at least for now. She didn't really have money for real riding equipment, but with her new part-time job here, she hoped to be able to afford both the lessons and some new equipment by herself. Her dad got out of the car and said,"Do you want me to go in with you?"
Makayla wrung her hands together slightly, then said,"I need to learn to do things on my own at some point in my life," Jokingly, though her answer was clear. She gave him a big hug, and he said,"I'll pick you up on the way home from work. You need your own car," The last part was said jokingly, but she just smiled nervously,"I think I can handle staying with horses all day. I probably won't want to leave. Now shoo," She said, taking a deep breath. Her dad smiled and got in the car, driving off.

She suddenly felt extremely alone. She hardly ever did anything on her own, sadly enough. Even if her parents weren't there, her brother was normally by her side. But now there was no one. Trying to swallow her shyness and nervousness, she headed inside.

(Slater)
Slater had been at the stable for a while now, feeding the horses, and mucking out the stalls. He was a teacher, but he was also a full-time stable hand, and he wouldn't choose and other job in the world. As he walked around a empty pasture, scooping manure into a wheelbarrow and keeping an eye out for poisonous plants, his mind was elsewhere. Where it was, who knew. Slater was notorious for being easily distracted, even though it didn't affect his job performance in the slightest.

(Jake)
Jake was just sort of driving down the road for now.

Preston rode up the rode on his horse, he was more familiar with the horse than a car, plus the weather was perfect today in his mind. His horse was a pure white with a long flowing mane, its hooves were nicely cleaned but had some dirt on them from the road. "Alright Paladin, you want to sprint a bit?" Holding onto the horse's neck and reigns firmly the horse sped off and was stopped by his rider when they reached their location. A few other riders could be seen with their horses. "Woah easy boy." Preston threw his leg over one side of the horse and dismounted, he wore a blue and white button shirt and a pair of blue jeans, his foot wear of choice was a pair of steel toed combat boots. "Anyone know where I can hitch old Paladin here up at?" Preston patted the flank of his horse and called out to one of the other riders, the wind gently pulled at his brown cowboy hat.

Slater was just dumping his wheelbarrow load in the pile when he saw a horse and rider come riding up the drive. Placing the wheelbarrow upside-down beside the pile, he walked over to the guy. "Do you board here?" He asked, "You should probably cool your horse off by walking him a bit before 'hitching' him anywhere, though," He pointed out, brushing off his pants.

"Yes sir, this way right?" Preston pointed to the pasture. "Alrightie, thank ya very much." Preston led Paladin out to one of the pastures and walked him around for a bit before letting him roam around the area. "Hmm, well boy looks like you don't have to be hitched here, so I will just let you walk for a bit; stay outta trouble you hear?" Petting his horse Preston exited the pasture only to trip over a girl and land on his face. "S-sorry Miss, didn't see you there." He helped her up gingerly through his dusty eyes and then looked at his bloody hand. "Dang it, my bad, did any blood get on you? Here let me go find some water." He tripped again and just laid there for a minute. "I really should get this dust out of my eyes before I do anything shouldn't I?" Standing up he proceeded more carefully and got a small pail of water and sat it beside the girl. "Sorry, for trippin' on ya, Miss."

Slater nodded when Preston pointed at the pasture,"Sure," He said, shrugging. He figured the horse would probably cool itself off in the pasture. It was just best not to tie your horse up or put it in a stall after a long run. He followed the guy over to the pasture, then said,"You should talk to Max if you're a new boarder here. I think he's inside, dealing with some other new boarders." With that, he headed off back to work.

Makayla had talked to Max about the boarding stuff, and had decided to go explore, maybe clear her head a bit. It was going well until some guy tripped over her, making her fall over. She muttered a very quiet 'sorry', before getting up without taking her hand. After doing so, she wondered if it was weird, she just didn't feel comfortable touching a stranger, even if it was a gesture of help. A small smile appeared on her lips as he tripped again, as she found it minorly amusing, but immediately she felt bad. "No," She said in reply to his question as to whether he got blood on her. She kind of watched him, unsure as to whether she should stick around, or leave. If she left and he had still wanted to talk to her, then it could be seen as rude, but if she stuck around when he was done talking to her, it could be slightly awkward. In the end she kind of just stuck around. "It's OK," She said quietly, wringing her hands together.

"Today sure is beautiful... oh sorry I forgot I had asked you a question, what was your name again, Miss?" He stopped himself from rambling and actually listened this time.

She gave him a shy little smile when he told her his name, but didn't say anything in reply. Again her thoughts were racing about whether or not that was rude, but she kind of froze up in situations where she was talking to strangers, and her brain seemed to work a step behind everything else. She gave a little giggle when he rambled a bit, then said,"Makayla, though everyone just calls me Kayla. And no, I don't know anyone at all. I'm not exactly very social." It seemed that once she got to talking to someone a bit more, she was more willing to talk and less quiet.

"Lovely to make your acquaintance, Miss Makayla." He said happy to have finally pronounced her name right.

While her sister, Cara, hadn't left home yet and was still making sure she had everything ready for her first day, Kelly was already at the stables. In fact, she walked to the stables. She could of rode her bike, but decided to take in the area with a walk to the stables instead. Her sister had been still getting ready and waking up and whatnot, and her parents would drive her sister there. She was pretty sure that her sister should arrive pretty soon, since she had already been at the stables for like an hour already. So far, she mostly took care of her horse, and looked around, to make sure she truly knew how to get around here. She checked out where all the pastures were, the feed room, all of it. And did so multiple times to familiarize herself with everything. Including the special treatment stuff for horses in case of an emergency, and general stuff that she used during her training of horses. Because she liked to know where everything was.

But now she wanted to actually talk to management about helping their business out further, by starting a horse training facility of sorts here with her working with peoples horses for money, bringing in business for herself and the stables. She felt that it could do them a lot of good, really. Help herself, and help people see how beautiful it was here and become borders themselves, helping out the business. She smiled to herself as she headed to wherever Max was located, and spoke to him after he was done with anything he might of been doing.

"Hey, Max, I was wondering" Kelly said to get his attention. "Would it be alright if I started some sort of horse behavior training facility at your Stables? You know, to help horses that have problems with saddles, or have bad people skills, whatever. I have helped a lot of people already but I want to actually do that on a more regular basis then I do right now. And I figure it will help your business, as well" She said to Max. "Not to brag or anything, but I am sure you have heard stories floating around about me by now" She said, and it really didn't seem like she was bragging. If anything, she seemed a little embarrassed by the fact that she had gotten so much attention lately for being some sort of "Miracle Girl", as a boy had called her once, as if she could work magic on horses to make them behave very well.

Maisie
The drive was only something like 5 minutes from her house to the Stables, but for her first day, 5 minutes felt like an eternity. The 5 minutes couldn't possibly go by any slower. There was almost pure excitement in her right now, but there was also a bit of nervousness, doing her first lesson and all and actually getting up on a horse for real. But the excitement mostly pushed that back, and the idea of being here, at a stables, being able to ride, and take care of horses, and whatever she ended up doing, was an extremely exciting thing. Her parents couldn't possibly be happier for her, seeing that they had made their daughter so, so happy doing this for her. She looked so happy in the back seat, and they swore she squealed in excitement a couple of times already. The drive felt pretty short for them, but they could tell it felt like forever for her.

Not terribly long later, they pulled up outside of the stables, and as soon as the car stopped, Maisie had grabbed her helmet and gloves, and hopped out of the car. She already had some basic, simple riding clothes on. Like pants that worked better for riding (whatever that might be), but her shirt was a fairly simple shirt, however it looked pretty cool despite that. Her hair was back in a ponytail, to keep all the hair out of her face. She slipped her gloves on, and even put her helmet on already, even though it really wasn't necessary, and waited for her slow parents to get out of the car. And when they did, she said "Come on!", which made her parents laugh as they followed her towards the stables at a walking pace, while she practically ran towards it. Though, once at the front doors of the inside of the stables, she came to a halt, and waited for someone with authority to speak to her. Her parents weren't far behind her, and her mother put her hands on her daughters shoulders while they waited for someone to come and speak to them.

Cara
Cara hadn't quite arrived yet, though she was currently on the road to the stables with her parents.

A smile spread across Makayla's face as he failed to pronounce her name more then ones. "Ma-Kay-la," She said slowly, smiling. At his compliment on her name, she blushed slightly and looked at the ground, not sure what to say in reply. "Nice to meet you, too," She said, quite quietly. She dearly wished she wasn't so awkward in social situations, and hoped it would get better as she made friends here at the stables. If she made friends. Whether or not she did depended on whether or not people talked to her, because she wasn't one to talk to people. Trying to steer the conversation away from the awkward silence on her part, she said,"Is that your horse?" Looked in to the pasture at Paladin.

George arrived in Pine Creek in his pick up truck he was hoping to get a job As a Stable hand at pine creek. He thought to himself," I am going to get rejected because of My Criminal Record i just know it". He saw all the horses and smiled Then he said to himself, "Atleast the Horses do not judge me". Then he walked to the main office then knocked on the owner of the stables door.

He laughed and took his hat off bowing elegantly with it tucked to his chest. "Lovely to make your acquaintance, Miss Makayla." He said happy to have finally pronounced her name right.

"Yeah, he is a real gift from God that one. Want to go pet him? He loves for pretty girls to show him some attention. I mean not that I am calling you pretty, wait no that is worse than you thinking I am hitting on you. Ugh...! Let me try that again..." Preston took a deep breath,"Would you like to pet him? His name is Paladin and he is such a sweetheart, only horse that has never flipped me off his back; raised him from a foal so I should hope he listens to me." He stopped himself just a bit short before he started rambling off about his whole life with Paladin.

Max was apparently being piled on with people talking to him. "Just a minute," He called to George before turning his attention to Kelly. He listened quietly to what she said, then nodded,"I do believe I've heard about you. I think that's a great idea," He said, grinning. "Why don't you take a few days to get adjusted around here before you start, though?" He said. He then went to his door and opened it. "Come in," He said to George,"How can I help you?"

(Slater)
Slater walked over to Maisie when he spotted her and her parents just kind of standing in the doorway. "Hi," He said cheerfully, grinning widely. "You here for lessons?" He asked, making the assumption out of the fact that she had no horse with her. "I'm Slater, by the way. What's your names?" He asked the family, wondering if he would know them, if they signed up ahead of time, which was normal.

(Makayla)
Makayla blushed again when Preston called her pretty, and just kind of didn't know how to respond to that. She had never had anyone call her pretty before, other then like, family and whatnot. "Um, sure," She said nervously, wringing her hands together. She told herself not to be nervous, because that would transmit to the horse. She took a deep breath, and managed to calm herself down.

He combed the horse's mane gently with ehr hand. "See? You are probably his best friend now." Grinning he looked at his hand holding hers and blushed, "S-sorry..." He could not release her hand though it was soft and delicate like a freshly ripened fruit in the spring season. His heart pounded as his cheeks became a deep red.

Makayla resisted the urge to pull her hand away from Preston when he took it and placed in on Paladin's neck as though she had no idea how to pet a horse. The reason she didn't pull away was purely because she didn't want to be rude, but it was a quite awkward situation for her. After a bit, however, it became too much for her and she pulled her hand away, stepping back. "Uh, thanks for letting me pet your horse. I'm going to go see how Bronze is doing," With that she took a few more slow, awkward steps back before turning around and walking somewhat quickly toward the stable. She had always wondered how she would respond in a situation like that, and now she knew. She wasn't the type just to fall for someone quickly, and it would likely take some time for her to get to really like anyone. It would all depend on how it went. Part of it had to do with how she was so shy.

Preston waved to her but she didn't look back. "Why am I so awkward with girls...?" He looked to his horse. "Great not only will she think I'm a mondo screw up, but she is going to think I am crazy for talking to a horse..." He kicked a fence post beside him. "Seeing the world sucks majorly... and on top of that no horse will even pay attention to me but you." Preston brushed his horse's mane. "Maybe we should have just stayed on the Bluegrass... at least back there I knew what way was up, down, left, right, forward, and back."

George walked in the office and took a seat in a chair and started to look around in the office looking at his surroundings. Then he said to Max," Hello sir my name Is George i would like to apply for a job as a stable hand here. I have references". He said as he handed a list of references to Max hoping he does not ask him if he had a criminal record.

Then he said to Max," Hello sir my name Is George i would like to apply for a job as a stable hand here. I have references". He said as he handed a list of references to Max hoping he does not ask him if he had a criminal record.

Max took the references and scanned through them, but in the end he said,"As long as you're able to scoop manure and aren't a rapist or murderer or something, I could use all the help I can get," The part about him being a rapist or murderer seemed to be a joke. It really didn't take much requirement to be a stable hand, because it wasn't particularly a job that required much skill.

(Makayla)
Makayla went into Bronze' stall and rubbed his cheek with the back of her hand. "Why must I be so awkward when talking to people? I find it much easier to talk to animals then to people. Is that weird?" She asked, wondering if he would let her hug him. She decided not to find out, because they didn't know each other too well yet, so she just contended herself with rubbing his cheek.

(Drake)
Drake sat on the fence to the pasture that Shadowplay was currently in, calming himself down. It was very beautiful here. The Evergreen trees that made up the forest and dotted the pastures were coated in a thick green moss, and everything was almost ridiculously green, as was normal in a Western Washington spring. He had always loved it here, which is why he had no intentions of being sent to an orphanage or something and adopted off to some far away family or something. He felt that being 16 he was perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Some people wouldn't agree, though, which was why he wasn't planning on telling anyone that he lived alone, with no parents or guardians.

(Jake)
Jake pulled in to the drive with his Rally car. If you were going to work at a stable, a Rally car was probably the worst car you could own. It roared down the drive, even though he wasn't going very fast, and even backfired once. Muttering under his breath, he pulled up outside and quickly turned his car off, hoping he didn't startle and horses too much. He couldn't exactly help that his car was noisy, so it wasn't like it was his fault.

He hopped out of his car and headed in to look for Max.

George Said to Max," Thank you sir no one else would take me and i need a job". So George got his uniform and began to get to work by scooping manure and cleaning the stables. He did not talk to any body he was not the social type. Then he walked to the last stall in the row he was in and saw a foal. He petted the foal then he thought again," They do not judge". Then he walked off.

Kelly smiled brightly when Max approved of her idea, and relieved at the same time because she wasn't sure if he would of actually accepted that or not. So when he did, it was quite nice. She was about to think about starting to get to work on it now, when Max suggested that she got used to the place a little more first, and she gave a nod in agreement, deciding that was probably a good idea. "I will leave you to your work" She said, noticing he seemed busy, and she gave a quick wave to him with a smile, before wandering off somewhere.

Maisie
"Hello!" Maisie said overly cheerfully in reply to Slater's greeting, and just that alone made her parents smile, because of her enthusiastic nature. They loved that about her. They could only wish that they themselves would be that enthusiastic and cheerful about everything. "Yup, definitely!" She again said happily and cheerfully. When he said his name and asked theirs, she smiled. "Slater is a lovely name" She said, and then paused for a bit before saying her own name. "My name is Maisie Perabo, and this is my dad, Eric Perabo, and my mom, Miranda Perabo" She pointed at herself, then her dad, and then her mom as she said the names. "I think my dad signed up on the webpage and had a phone conversation already, so everything should be in order" She said, and her dad gave a nod to confirm what she had said to be true.

Slater immediately noticed that this girl was the cheery happy type. It was kind of hard to miss, really, even for him. "Thanks," He said, grinning at her when she said that he had a nice name. "Your names are all great, too," He replied, then nodded to what she said next. "Yep, I was told to keep an eye out for you guys. Everything's in order. If you want, I'll show you to the horse you'll be riding."

Leo

Leocadio was pulling up to the stables in his car. No classes today so he could spend as much time as he liked at the stable. He parked as quickly as he could, and stepped out onto the cement, shutting the car's door behind him with a satisfying clap. Before moving, he drew in a breath, taking in the atmosphere that the property exuded. Before long, though, he headed into the stables, and made his way to the stall where Catarina was being held.

"Catarina!" Leo greeted his horse with a smile, "Ven aqui! Que tal?" The tersk quickly turned and trotted over to her companion as she called him.

"Es bueno verte tambien, muchacha." He told her as he moved closer to her, putting his hand on the side of her neck and stroking down the short fur that covered the horse. "Quieres salir afuera?" Leo received a knicker of what he assumed was approval. He beamed wider at this. "Yo tambien." He opened up the stall so that he could begin putting the necessary tack on his horse. Though he generally would simply hook the lead rope to Catarina's halter and trust her not to run off, Leo did not like taking chances with his horse.

Nicholas

"I would prefer to be left off here." Nicholas told his mother as they approached the stables. "I will walk up the rest of the way." There was no discernible tone to his voice. Though his mother frowned at his request, she did pull over towards the side of the road before stopping the car without another word.

"I suppose I will see you later then." Nicholas said as he stepped out of the car, and started down towards the stables. He appreciated his mother, certainly, but he found that he preferred her not looking over his shoulder as he went about his day. The stable allowed that much far more easily than his home.

Already he could smell the forest and the scent of the horses. He almost wished that he had his laptop with him. Riding was okay, but he really would rather do research. Clayton made a fine enough companion, though Nicholas could not say that he felt too much for his animal. Before walking inside the stable where the occasional whinny could be heard radiating from, Nicholas stopped and looked back and forth at the fields on each side, scanning for people and horses. While he had no plans to approach anyone, he liked to get an impression of exactly how many people were present at the stable at a time.

"Why thank you!" Maisie said cheerfully when he said they all had nice names, and her parents smiled and gave a nod in response, because they decided to let their daughter do most of the talking. Mostly because she, well, kind of did most of the talking on her own, if they said anything about it or not. When he said that he would show her to the horse she would be riding, her eyes lit up in excitement and she turned to her parents, and they gave her a smile, her mom letting go of her shoulders, and she stepped closer to Slater. As she did, her mom said "We will see you later. Just call when you want to be picked up". Dad nodded in agreement. They both worked from home, so they were almost always at the house, and they could stop their work any time to pick her up. They all gave each other a hug goodbye, and then she stepped back over to being by Slater as her parents walked off and waved to her. "I'm ready now!" She exclaimed excitedly.

Slater just smiled at her when she thanked him. He liked her energy. It was rare that he saw people with so much energy and cheerfulness. He waited for her to be ready, then lead her into the stable and to Spotty's stall. "This is Spotty, the horse you will be riding. He's a 21 year old gelding. Not exactly a youngster, but not old either. He's good for beginners, and has good show jumping potential. Perfect for you, so I hear," He said, smiling and rubbing Spotty's nose. He looked at his watch,"Your first lesson is scheduled to start in an hour, right? You minus well get used to the school while you wait," He said.

(Drake)
Shadowplay trotted over to Drake and placed his head on his lap, nickering softly. Drake smiled lovingly and rubbed Shadowplay's ears. "Want to go on a ride, boy?" He asked, and got a quiet nicker in reply. Smiling, he slid off the fence,"I'll go get your tack," He said, kissing his beloved horse on the muzzle before heading off to his trailer to grab his tack. Once he had it, he tacked up Shadowplay and lead him out of the pasture before mounting up.

"Hey" Kelly said, doing a tip of her cowgirl hat towards Nicholas as she walked by, smiling at him as well. The smile of hers almost looked like it was on the shy realm, even though she wasn't that much of a shy person. But there were times where her smiles just looked shyer then she may actually seem to be herself. Now was one of those times.

"You must be new" Kelly said, leaning onto the door of a stall as she spoke to him, which was the stall where the foal was located. "Hey little guy" She said before Nicholas even really got time to respond, but it still looked like she was paying attention to him if he did end up speaking up and saying something to her.

Maisie
Maisie followed him over to the horse that she would be riding, glancing around the stables as she walked there, taking everything in of the place. But when he said that this would be the horse she would be riding, her full attention fell upon the horse, and her face lit up again. "He is beautiful!" She said happily, and as he kept speaking, she reached her hand out to the horse slowly, her fist closed so the horse could smell her hand. "My dad wrote that in the application, didn't he? I love my dad, he takes everything into account and writes it down in the most detailed way possible" She said, resting her arms on the door of the stall and smiling happily. To what he said next, she gave a nod of her head to him saying that her class was in an hour, and that she should use that time to familiarize herself with the school. "I shall do that, but right now I am going to hang out with my new friend" She smiled, scratching Spotty on the nose gently.
