There is a voice-chat, but not one specifically for events. I'll bring it up.

Last year, House Slytherin and House Hufflepuff went head to head for the Hogwarts House Cup! This year, things are different right off the bat! House Ravenclaw though has made it clear they "won't let Slytherin boast for another year" and took the lead with some shrewd calculations!

Participants can earn points in the competition in a variety of ways. For example, post photos of your Harry Potter related memorabilia (no doxxing please) such as scarves, socks, t-shirts, candy, posters, or TATTOOS of course for points in #the-great-hall!

House Cup Update - Day Two

House Points for Sunday 12/23/2018 at midnight EST

Image

House Hufflepuff - 80
House Gryffindor - 75
House Ravenclaw - 154
House Slytherin - 159

House Slytherin takes the lead from House Ravenclaw in a surprising twist to the competition! With only five points between them House Ravenclaw and House Slytherin have take a solid lead and have made the competition all between them!

Will House Hufflepuff, which made a great show last year particularly in the arts\creative competition stage a comeback? Will House Gryffindor which lost terribly last year but has been making a decent showing this year, have a better year? Who will take the House Cup for the year? It's too close to call with several days of events and festivities remaining!

Points Break Down So Far

Wizarding Battleship
Ten players formed teams to engage in wizarding battleship! House Ravenclaw was able to pull together a full team of wizards ready to duel and seemed to have an early advantage!

The Philosopher's Stoners were formed from members of each remaining House and seemed to lack direction but after getting their leadership together dominated each round with strategy and luck!

Highlights include Dali casting Serpensortia at one opponent and knocking them out and then taking another one out in a direct hit!

Image

House Hufflepuff - 35 points
House Gryffindor -35 points
House Ravenclaw - 50 points
House Slytherin - 70 points

The Buzzfeed Quiz points for today:
For taking and posting a screen cap of your official House results in the #whomping-willow

House Hufflepuff - 10
House Gryffindor - 0
House Ravenclaw - 20
House Slytherin - 15

There was some player poaching so to clarify, players may change Houses once during the duration of the event. All points once tallied belong to the House they were won for. Future points earned after one permitted switch apply to the new House.

Yuleball Roleplay

House Slytherin had three players sign up for the Yuleball Roleplay with intriguing and detailed applications! Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw had one player each!

Highlights include Cormac's IC first words being "Minister of Magic!" XD! The addition of the Japanese and American schools of magic open up some intriguing possibilities for this roleplay :)

Image

House Hufflepuff - 5 points
House Gryffindor - 5 points
House Ravenclaw - 5 points
House Slytherin - 10 points

The Quest for the Time Turner

Image

The Department of Mysteries recently revealed that all time turners have been destroyed EXCEPT one.

The last time turner has been hidden in a secret location in the Department. To get to it, questors have to solve 13 riddles accurately.

To solve the majority of the riddles you will have to visit the Discord, WFE, or regional RMBs of the Harry Potter and the Festival of Friendship partner regions (The North Pacific, The East Pacific, The West Pacific, Greater Dienstad, Europeia!) In addition, a few bonus questions require checking out the NSGP Forum or Discord and being up to date with GP current events!

What will you do once the last time turner is yours?

The Quest may be completed using the Google Form here. Please make sure to submit responses along with your NS Name\House!

Questors can earn up to 15 points total! House Cup Updates will be announced TBA!

House Points for Wednesday 12/26/2018

Image

House Hufflepuff - 105
House Gryffindor - 75
House Ravenclaw - 345
House Slytherin - 192

House Ravenclaw did not take the last House Points update lightly at all. They have zoomed ahead of the other houses on their Firebolts, leaving even the Slytherins behind.

At this point there are three days left in the festival with live activities ocurring on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before a final House Cup updates on Sunday! Can House Slytherin make a comeback? Does any House have a chance?

Points Break Down So Far

The Quest for the Last Time Turner

House Ravenclaw won the last time turner. Whatever will these wise souls do with it?
Image

House Hufflepuff - 0 points
House Gryffindor - 0 points
House Ravenclaw - 143 points
House Slytherin - 28 points

13 players undertook this quest with 9 players receiving perfect scores:
United Massachusetts, Soul Frye, Bobberino, Mikey, Brendog, Denieria, Rai and El Fiji Grande of House Ravenclaw and Cormac of House Slytherin.

Of course with timer turners, there's always some side effects. The Time Turner challenge will be open until tomorrow midnight EST!

Shout out to House Ravenclaw for dominating this challenge!

The Yuleball Roleplay

Applications are still open for this evening of dancing, delights, and mayhem and murder...see the spoiler below for OP...roleplay begins this weekend!

A soft golden glow illuminates the ballroom entrance. Festive music trickles melodically from somewhere afar. The ceiling has been enchanted to reflect the starry night sky with a full moon glimmering as if one could reach out and touch it.

You peek through the glass doors and see witches and wizards, dressed in their finest, standing to the sides expectantly. Waiting, you think, to catch their nerves and to let the music and moment overcome their inhibitions.

Image

The finery is exquisite. Some attendees even sport filigree masks that cover their visages partially or fully. Students from Hogwarts mix with students from the Mahoutokoro School of Magic and the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Sigh. A beautiful couple begin to dance; one slender form moving gracefully as a swan and the other a perfect companion to every step. A few others join the dance, while others get drinks or hors devours and mingle.

You stand at the threshold....

~ Meanwhile ~

Students attending the ball frolicked innocently or mischievously or nervously but beyond the glow of their naivety there were ominous clouds rolling towards them with full speed.

A man and a woman wearing dark robes, spied upon the festively decorated castle from the Forbidden Forest.

The man and woman found a sleeping tree fairy from a snow covered tree. The man held it between his fingers, and quickly plucked its wings and collected them in a vial.

The mewling tree fairy was jolted out of its slumber. The woman pulled her skull mask off her face and looked at the tree fairy before incinerating it in blue flame.

"We need human blood as well," said the man in a low growl.

"It's a ball," the woman said, "bound to have someone come out here. For one reason or another."

The taller, broad man took out his wand and smirked. "We can help things along, I bet."

Fandom Memorabilia

Starting this week with House Slytherin sharing one of their brethren sporting a delightfully Dark Mark tattoo we had a Hufflepuff share some of their fandom obsessions including a t-Shirt and adorable Hufflepuff socks. Have your own memorabilia to share? Post it in the-great-hall for five points per fandom love!

The Owlery Project

Dispatches Must be Submitted By: Saturday 12/29/2018 11:59PM EST

ImageRemember that summer Harry got not a single letter from a friend or well-wisher? It was terribly depressing and turned him into an exceptionally angtsy, moody, and sometimes downright angry individual.

The goal of The Owlery Project is to remember all the positive and good and appreciate it in the wake of all the not so lovely that often overtakes us.

How can you participate? Simple. Write a message to a fellow NSer telling them what you appreciate about them and their impact on your life. You can be as creative as you want and use a text and\or images and send the messages via dispatches! Multiple messages may be included in one dispatch! See herefor an example or here :)

Messages should be written in good faith and of a reasonable length (see example). You should be comfortable having the dispatch be shared with others. Write sweet messages to the players you enjoy, admire, respect, or generally have a good time with :)

Each simple dispatch (text only, to one person) will receive 5 points in the House Cups competition; creative, eloquent, or cheerfully heart-warming messages may receive up to 25 points. The first example above would receive 25 points, the second 10 points.

All dispatches will be collated in a Owlery Project dispatch to be shared on New Year's Eve!

Official Ministry Notice

The Auror Division was tipped off that a known criminal used Polyjuice potion to infiltrate Hogwarts and pose as a Ravenclaw student. The criminal has been banished from Hogwarts grounds and authorities in other venues have been alerted. House Ravenclaw lost 210 points for the event.

Those who would like more information please see the server announcement or ask Escade. As the event OP stated, "All players in good standing are welcome to partake." This should not have to be delineated anymore clearly but if you would not be welcome by the event organizers and event host Escade do not use alternate Discord accounts to attend.

Final House Cups Update

As Headmaster Max Barry announced the House Cup points something intriguing happened in the Great Hall. The banners that always turned one set of colors instead changed to a medley of blues and greens, silvers and bronzes. The colors and the symbols harmonized beautifully and one banner appeared at the center of the hall:

Image

For while the points spoke to a clear and true Slytherin win - the serpents conversed in their common room about how impressed they had been with their fellow Ravenclaws and their sorrow at the grim dangers their compatriots had faced. House Slytherin, led by Prefect Cormac, showed a noble and compassionate spirit in advocating that this year's house cup be a shared endeavor. This show of sportsmanship and honor was beloved by all. Thus Hogwarts will reflect a Slytherclaw victory!

The Golden Snitch Writing Contest

The Final House Cups points were awarded based on artistic and writerly creativity:

Rigels Light won the Golden Snitch Writing contest for her piece Children of War with a judge commenting that:

Rigels Light: Focusing on the future immediately after the events of the books proper, this piece's strength is as an introspective character study. It provides, thus, a well-written description of its nameless central character, placing you in their shoes. It is an exploration of their - your - relationships with the world around them in the abstract, ethereal terms that they would themselves know best. It feels like an inner voice. The piece, in cleverly painting a picture of something drawn very clearly from the Harry Potter universe, nevertheless struggles to establish itself as a fundamentally Pottersque contribution. Memories of magic are just that; memories - the closest the piece comes to planting its flag in the universe is with the reminder of the Headmistress beginning her time in.

The Fantastic Art Contest

The Fantastic Art contest winner is El Fiji Grande of House Ravenclaw for his first entry.
Image

One illustrious judge commented:
El Fiji's is my winner. Not only do the graphics have a rough quality and rough finish that I like, it also uses one of my favorite quotes in the entire series. Splending submission overall.

The Yuleball Roleplay IC Writing Contest

This contest was won by Cormactopia Prime for his entry into the Yuleball Roleplay.

One judge stated:
Cormac:
Networking at a ball, what a Slytherin. The disgust at Gryffindor is appreciated too #Slytherin. I enjoyed the characterization in this post, definitely the best in the entire thread. Cormac is a character that is distinctly himself but also fits into the world of Harry Potter, this is a post that could be recognized as Harry Potter even if it was standalone. I enjoyed the networking angle and sticking to that angle, especially with the ending of the post.

The final House Points were
House Hufflepuff - 374
House Gryffindor - 160
House Ravenclaw - 920
House Slytherin - 1292

Highlights Reel
Image

In an event such as this with so many participants from all areas of NationStates, there were exceptional displays of bravery, wity, and skill. This section highlights the best of the best along with some comedic moments as well!

Trivia

91 questions were asked across 5 trivia rounds! Dyl of House Slytherin was the Trivia MVP by answering 29 of those questions first, accurately, with perfect spelling and full names :P The next highest points earned for trivia were by Rai of House Ravenclaw (13) and Rigel of House Slytherin (12)!

While several questions received a plethora of answers that were scandalous, hilarious, or otherwise puzzling - this question received some hilarious responses - of those that can be shared here:

Chess Tournament
Shoutout to Tim of House Slytherin who earned his house the maximum points possible for this event and for continuing his reign as Chess Champion two years in a row!

Wizarding Battleship
The first wizarding battleship game was a decisive victory for the Philosopher's Stoners (House Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor) but in the second round of this event House Ravenclaw effectively utilized the strategy that cost them the game the first round to launch a series of devastating attacks that wiped the Philosopher's Stoners off the field very quickly!

House Prefects
Each House had its own common room where they could strategize, motivate, and just engage in funny shenanigans. House Ravenclaw and House Slytherin used theirs very effectively and the behind the scenes was fun to watch!

House Ravenclaw and particularly MVP Rai deserve a shout out for sheer numbers and participation. They calculated points, they quibbled about points, they joined every single event and pushed for more opportunities to earn points! Rai in particular led his team very aptly by inspiring them and pushing them to do their best. He also took on challenges that were outside of his comfort zone and did well!

House Slytherin showed several leaders and players who worked together with unity and strategy. It was hard to identify just one player as they were a pleasure to watch in how they cheered each other on, supported one another and backed up each other in games. In many events this made all the difference! Kudos to Tim, Dyl, Cormac, Rigel, amongst many others for an entertaining and fun Slytherin common room to watch!

Fandom Memorabilia
This contest heated up to show that we really are a bunch of Potterheads.

From Rigel's beautiful Dark Mark tattoo to Dyl's glasses and Lego set to Tim's Slytherin cosplay outfit to the figurines submitted by JohnMaynard, to the various book sets, movie sets submitted by a ton of players, to the adorable kitten dressed up as wizard by Altmoras there were so many items to be literally fan over! There were a total of 155 ITEMS submitted via photos!

The true MVP of the event was Cain of House Slytherin who single handedly earned 285 points from fandom items alone!

A select few items are shared here out of the 155 submitted!

Thank you to all the players who enjoyed this event, this wouldn't have been possible without you and was for you! Special shout out to House Slytherin and House Ravenclaw - you were both a force to be reckoned with and each event day was a toss up of who would take the lead. I have loved your players particularly MVPs from each house that really carried their teams! House Slytherin won in the 2017 version of this event and House Slythercaw won the 2018 version. However, House Slytherin also just won by sheer sportsmanship and lovely character.

Next, I want to thank all the regions (The North Pacific, The East Pacific, The West Pacific, Europeia,Greater Dienstad) and the delegates of each region for envisioning this unity and the regional and cultural planners from each that made this event possible.

The Ministry of Magic spent a lot of time to make this event successful! Shout outs to Bastiat\Aclion for the delightful art and badges and super hard trivia questions, Kortexia for saving the day by handling all our bot issues, and everyone else! I also want to thank my original co-founder for this event, Ian Fleming, and XKI because this event was first envisioned for and with them and their players have supported it throughout <3

Then a heartfelt thank you to our estimable judges for the competitions including: Fedele, Delegate of East Pacific and founder of Lone Wolves United; Elegarth Former Guardian and Delegate of The West Pacific and Former Regent and Current Legatus of the New Pacific Order; Sopo, current President of Europeia; Lamoni, delegate of Greater Dienstad and NS Forum Mod; Halo Rahl, delegate of The West Pacific; and Salvarity, co-founder of The Empire of Mare Nostrum; Siwale, Delegate of the North Pacific; The Grim Reaper, founder of Greater Azuhkali and Issues Editor (and winner of last year's Golden Snitch competition); August, founder of The Augustin Alliance; Church of Satan, former delegate of The Rejected Realms; and Jar Wattinree, a Lore Expert from the Lord of the Rings event and writer of fiction! They all took time out of their busy days to look at each entry and provide feedback!

Finally, if I didn't mention you by name please forgive me (and DM me)!

How can I still be immersed in the Harry Potter world?

Check out the Yuleball Roleplay which is still accepting applications and will be continuing!

If you made it thus far then you'll find that we have one more charm up our sleeve. Dyl of House Slytherin was promised a magical movie night and we will endeavor to have one on a date TBD. Check out the server for announcements!

More like memorabilia/emergency Halloween costume :P

What a great festival, though! Huge congrats to Escade for making it happen, seemingly near single-handedly!
