I'm new to the WA, and I need some stuff explained, please.

Hello,

I'm here from the nation of Love and Rockets and I’m new to the WA. I'm also confused about how to do things. :? I read the FAQ and I looked in the "World Assembly" link on my nation's page. It said that there are no resolutions to vote for right now, but I don't know how to cast a vote if there was a resolution. Second, there is a link on the WA page that says list proposals. The explanation before it read, "Proposals are suggestions for resolutions... if it gains the necessary support, will become a resolution." I saw where a number of nations had endorsed some of these proposals, but I don't know how to do that either. I guess that these proposals are debated in threads here, or do I not understand that correctly. Finally, about endorsements. If I understand it correctly, I cannot even suggest a proposal unless I have two nations endorsing me. Is that right? And only nations from my home region can endorse me? I don't know how to work that, since there are only three other nations in my region, and none of them are WA members. Sorry I am so uninformed and unexperienced. I hope that someone can take the time to explain this to me patiently, though. I have never tried this WA thing before, and I want to be able to help out my region, to help friends if their regions get invaded or whatever, and to be useful to the WA too.

Thanks. L&R

You're correct about endorsements. Only WA nations in your region can endorse you. If you have a good idea for a proposal and need endorsements, you could try to convince the other nations in your region to join the WA and endorse you. Or invite other WA nations into your regions (but look at the rules for recruiting first). Or your could move to another region that has more WA members.

First of welcome and howdy. When a resolution makes quorum it will come on the the screen that currently says there are none, do yourself a favor and click on the "list proposals" link on that page, it will bring up a page that has all the proposals that haven't reached quorum, give you a flavor for what you might see later.

Anyway, when the proposal comes up to vote you'll see the text of the proposal and a set of buttons that say "Vote For" or "Vote Against" or something to that affect. Click the button you wish to vote, and you're done.

Thanks for the welcome and for all of your explanations. I will try to get the other nations in my region to join, but they are all pretty torpid right now...they haven't responded to much in the CHQ anyway. :( Where do I find the rules on recruiting? When I first joined NationStates a few nations sent me telegrams asking me to join them, but I don't know anything else about it. Also, thanks for explaning about the buttons for voting. I looked at the proposals and they each had a list of nations endorsing them. How do I do that? Or is that only for regional WA reps? Thanks for filling me in, and being so welcoming and helpful.

Your welcome, that's what we're here for. Give them a little time, not everyone is as lifeless as me. :)

Recruiting wise hopefully someone else has that info for you as I'm not all that involved with it.

Endorsing issues is what the regional reps do. A quorum of regions have to endorse them. You can certainly telegram your rep and tell them your opinion if it's strongly for or strongly against.

Joining a different region with nations more involved or at least members of the WA will help you out if you want to propose something. The Pacifics are easiest for that, you'll get endorsements without even asking usually.

The International Democratic Union guarantees the necessary 2 endorsements to each of its members who is in the WA, at least as long as those nations don't submit proposals that seriously contradict this region's ideals...

Another nation left the GGR. :( I might soon be taking your advice on going to a different region myself; it looks like the GGR is going to fall back into being a lapsed trophy region. Anyway, I still would like to know what is allowed and what the general rules are on recruiting, if anyone would care to direct me to them. Thanks. And Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice.

Welcome to the World Assembly: you cannot post recruiting ads in nearly every region's message board except the feeder regions (The Pacific and its orientations, for example). Some founders may ban recruitment by telegramming to nations resident there.
