[Submitted] Repeal "Prevention of Torture"

Postby Chazicaria » Fri Jul 24, 2009 11:03 am

This is my first proposal and well my argument is that torture can be used on terrorists found guilty in an International court (to sum it up) Id like to have some comments, please tell me if i did a good job.

Description: WA General Assembly Resolution #9: Prevention of Torture (Category: Human Rights; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: Recognizing the Right to protect one's country,
This is my first proposal and well my argument is that torture can be used on terrorists found guilty in an Internation court

I hereby propose that Torture may be used to gain Information from Terrorists as ordinary techniques don't always work and can result in innocent people dying.

This Repeal states:

1. Only Psychological or Physical Torture may be used.

1a. Physical Torture must be watched over closely by a Physician to prevent death.

2. Torture may only be used on those that have been found GUILTY in an International court on charges of Terrorism/Genocide or other serious offenses.

3. Evidence gained by Torture may be used in legal proceedings.

4. That countries who do wish to ban Torture may do so.

Besides the actual content being dumb and against other WA (UN) resolutions, you mention yourself and the proposal. Big no no.

You should probably look at the guidelines before submitting a proposal. It has to be in the proper format.

This link is for GA proposals but it covers what I mentioned I think.

Your argument has one glaring hole, we don't have an international court.

What of the glaring hole where it's introducing legislation in a repeal?

I support this proposal as it enhances national security. Better one criminal goes through hell then thousands die needlessly.

Yeah, this resolution seems illegal to me, as it does more than just repeal a previous resolution.

This "proposal" is actually three concepts in one.

1. Create an international court (never going to happen)
2. Repeal WA resolution pertaining to Torture (idiocy)
3. Create new guidlines for Torture methods(complete fail)

This proposal is dependant on two other things happening first. The creation of an international court is never going to happen, and the WA nations aren't going to repeal a resolution that prevents Torture.
