WA resolution compendium, part 2

Postby Quelesh » Mon Oct 11, 2010 6:38 pm

Last year, Sionis Prioratus created his Ultimate Compendium for WA resolutions, but of course it hasn't been updated, so I've created my own document to replace it.

It does not have repealed resolutions (or the resolutions that repealed them) because they are not currently in force. It only has the resolutions that are actually in force now. I made it mainly to help as a reference when researching for a proposal, to more easily look for issues with duplication/contradiction, etc.

The first page has hyperlinks to the text of each resolution, and each resolution has a hyperlink back to the first page, so it's pretty easy to navigate.

There was a 'compendium' of this sort, of UN resolutions I think (or maybe early GA resolutions), that was incredibly in-depth. It broke resolutions down into several different categories, beyond the game's categories. It provided a summary of the various arguments. That would be really interesting to see something like that, if anybody has the time.

Yeah that would be very interesting. Probably better as a document separate from this one though, as this one is designed to be able to find the text of a particular resolution quickly without having to click through all the 20-something pages of the GA resolutions page.

Maybe a listing of resolutions by category/strength though?

Topics or 'keywords' would be more accurate because for example every health bill has been squished into the 'social justice' category since the beginning of time, for some silly reason. Also, categories like the ' Furtherment of Democracy' and 'Political Stability' are more like the clusterfuck categories of the WA...

I still have a copy of the WA resolution compendium by Sionis Prioratus with resolutions up to #58 but I am not sure if I can send it to you because the copyright is with Sionis Prioratus.

As far as quickly finding text, OMGTKK's thread in this forum is the easiest way, I think. But this could be pretty useful, too. I'm also a fan of the WA Timeline wiki page, since it lists the proposals that failed and were deleted as well.

What would be the best way of implementing a keyword database? Maybe something in OO.o Base/Access? I'm taking an intro to database systems class, and I've been meaning to make a practice system... I might just do that...

I was surprised to see how long the compendium was. I kind of want to print and bind it, just to have a nice massive book on my shelves.

I actually have a copy of that document authored by SP. His is a lot fancier than mine, and the resolutions are sorted by category instead of simply being in chronological order. He also has an appendix of repealed and repealing resolutions.

I could make an appendix of my own with listings of resolutions by "topic" with links to them, topic being things like "health care," "international relations," "children/minors," "international justice," etc.

I've updated the document with a few changes. I included the most recent two resolutions passed, and I added three new sections that may be useful (though they should really be considered beta at this point), resolutions by category/strength, resolutions by topic and resolutions by author.

Category/strength is self-explanatory. Resolutions by topic is my attempt at a more useful categorization of resolutions by what they're basically about, so that a proposal writer can more quickly read any resolutions that cover a given topic. It could probably use a lot of work though; some of the topics are kinda pulled out of my ass, and I didn't know where to put some of the resolutions. Resolutions by author is also pretty self-explanatory, but keep in mind that it lists the submitter of the resolution, not necessarily the author. Each section also has a bunch of hyperlinks so you can just click the title to read the resolution.

The OP has been updated with the new link. Please feel free to give any suggestions on the topics or anything else.

Updated again, new link in OP. Added the most recent two resolutions, changed some formatting to shorten the document. Also removed the page numbers from the table of contents, since you can just click on the links and I didn't feel like finding the new page numbers after changing everything.
