Self-Defense is a right but at some point you have to realize that automatic weapons and explosives are made for "offense", not defense. Some firearms--very few--should be allowed, but if a neighbor buys an AK, I don't think its in the interest of defending him/herself.

As long as said person never actually kills anyone, why not?

What Sanctaria wrote to help Casta Nal is a good example of how the proposal SHOULD have been. Atleast with the title.
Now, what Casta Nal wants is not only to allow self-defence, but also to arm civilians.

Also, good job on being the "Nice Ambassador" :) Perhaps put that in your signature?

Vitoriasa wrote:As others have said (correct me please if this is not what the resolution intends), people have the right to defend themselves, but with non-lethal weapons. Does this resolution allow citizens to build machine gun turrets on their front lawns to protect them from any thieves that may or may not come by?

In Ms. Harper's opinion citizens should be able to build machine gun turrets with the permission from their government. From our observations, it appears that member states can decide what weapons are allowed for this purpose. This means that when we crash-test the clause, a loophole is discovered where a government can outlaw all weapons, while on the other side all weapons could be allowed.

Thank-you for the clarification, Ms Harper.

The Republic of Quadrimmina considers the resolution unnecessary at best, but completely unsupportable at worst. This is a national issue. Do not internationalize it.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Kerrigan, Ambassador to the World Assembly from the Republic of Quadrimmina.
