[DRAFT] The Proletarian Relief Act

Postby Valkura » Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:59 pm

The Proletarian Relief Act
Category:Economic/Social Justice
Strength:Strong

THIS WORLD ASSEMBLY,

RECOGNIZING the inert and inevitable divisions within free market societies based upon profit and not merit,

REALIZES that due to these divisions, the small number of individuals that control capital and the means of production, have the power to greatly infringe on the rights of their workers such as cutting pay drastically low, demanding longer hours, forcing the worker to work in unsafe conditions, and not ensuring job security.

UNDERSTANDS that there exists many dilemmas, such as those stated above, that are unsolvable and there can be nothing done about it.

DECLARES
i. The right for workers to take control of a certain company, if they so do decide to democratically remove the company owner for his/her position. In the event that this happens, the company can either vote on a new owner, or reorganize itself into a collective.
ii. Everyone has the right to attend and voice their problems at the meetings of their Local Proletarian Committee.

DEFINES a

i. Local Proletarian Committee (LPC) as a national council of 8 elected persons dedicated to the cause of workers rights and will settle disputes involving wage laborers, proletarians, low paid workers, or any other individual who feels that there is a problem within his/her workplace.

ii. Worker's Collective as a company with no CEO or any other head of operations, in which all actions of the company are decided up by the vote of every worker within that certain business.

REQUIRES WA member nations to create a LPC so that the lower classes of every nation may be attended to.

MANDATES that all companies and collective who choose to relieve a worker of their job must first fill out the necessary forms and submit a reason to their nations LPC for review.

ENSURES that WA nations can better the needs of those who do not have the necessary resources to otherwise improve their lives.

Nice try, Karl. We really do not need mandated communism.

Besides, what you are proposing is already covered, and much better, in the Living Wage Act.
Everything you know about me is wrong. Or a rumor. Something like that.

Such an idea is likely to not please nations who believe that corporations are the best direction. If we allowed workers to take over companies then the general efficiency of companies and services are going to suffer, hurting the global economy.

Karl was a Marxist, I think you were looking for Vladimir or just Vlad for short. :)

However, this legislation belongs in the same dump heap that Vlad's idea ended up.

Seriously? You expect us to completely abolish or at the very least ignore private property ownership?

Just as a quick tip: You generally will be able to get more done if you mask your ideology slightly. Instead of "Proletarian Relief Act" try "The Laborer's Voice Act", or "Individual Rights Sacrificed Upon the Alter of Actions Perceived or Hastily Assumed To Be For the Collective Bennefit Act". Actually the latter may be too long...

There are already resolutions which ensure worker rights.

resolution #7: Workplace Safety Standards Act
resolution #21 Living Wage Act
resolution #43: WA Labor Relations Act

We recommend you read these first before drafting legislation to expand worker rights. We also recommend you read the rules for proposals so you won't wind up trampling any ideology, whether economic or political in the process.
