Not a WA member, but I'd just like to advance the opinion that perhaps people should be forbidden to advocate the banning of anything they can't spell.
Maybe that would be a nice resolution.

I believe that this draft contradicts the Freedom of Expression. Islam is also an RL reference.

We condemn this resolution, due to the absence of commas at the end of the clauses.

Hmmm... We have a religion called Islam in my nation, and so do many other nations. That would make it an in game reference, no?

Evenso, we definately do not support such a resolution and consider the mere thought of it to be sheer foolishness on the same level as SPAM.

Antuan flipped through some paperwork in front of him as he stood to speak before the assembly:

"Honorable Deligate from The Commonwealth of Expansionist Australia, I would like to note that this Proposed Legislation from your writers is in contradiction of Article 1, Paragraph C of World Assembly General Assembly Resolution #35, which states the following;
c ) All inhabitants of member states have the right not to be and indeed must not be discriminated against on grounds including sex, race, ethnicity, nationality, skin color, language, economic or cultural background, physical or mental disability or condition, religion or belief system, sexual orientation or sexual identity, or any other arbitrarily assigned and reductive categorisation which may be used for the purposes of discrimination, except for compelling practical purposes, such as hiring only female staff to work with battered women who have sought refuge from their abusers.

I hearby call for this Proposed Legislation be stricken from the record and burned out back in the trash cans."

Both their Excellencies are quite correct, this proposal is perfectly illegal because it contradicts the CoCR. Even were that not the case the idea of the World Assembly stooping to ban the wearing of an item of clothing is perfectly absurd.

OOC: No, not for 'Optionality', because it requires all nations to institute the ban anway... This is the same principle as proposals on maritime matters being legal even though some nations don't have coasts & shipping, or proposals on crime & punishment being legal even though some nations have crime as "completely unknown"...

"But doesn't this proposal call for nations to impose the ban in question on everybody within their jurisdicitions, rather than just on some specific group, meaning that it doesn't discriminate?
"Or are proposals that contradict the tenets of any one culture or religion now to be deemed illegal for contradiction of the CoCR? If the latter is the case then the governments of this Assembly's more
theocratic nations, such as The Eternal Kawaii for example, will surely be overjoyed to learn of this change in the Assembly's rules..."

Only those who are required to wear a Burka by their religious observance will be effected by this statute, unless the wearing of all headscarves and veils and face coverings worn for any purposes is being banned, meaning that this resolution remains illegal as a form of unfair discrimination against observant Muslim women.

"Burka" is considered an acceptable spelling also, though "Burca" is not.

His Most Serene Majesty's Government in Right of the Most Serene Kingdom of Astralsideria is disgusted by this Bill. Whilst fully realising that there are inherent security question marks over the burqa, it is very definitely felt that this is utterly intolerable. To issue a blanket ban on an article of religious apparel is entirely without justification.

His Most Serene Majesty's Government strongly urges the nations of the world to unite in their denouncing of this act of barbarism.

The newly elected Bergnovinaian Deleagte, Asma Bakr, a devout muslim, walks into the WA debating chamber. She is wearing a burqa and is stunned when she gets strange views from certain members of the delegation and the author of the current proposal at debate. She takes her seat and whispers to her fellow colleque next to her, "Sorry, but did I miss something?"
